  • Purpose: This study aims to understand the influence of college entrance system-related factors and scores of college scholastic ability test on a first year nursing student's academic achievement. Method: Data collected include both a descriptive survey designed to assess college entrance system-related factors with respect to 182 nursing students attending a 4-year nursing college program and their test scores in the first year. The data were analyzed via descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test with Bonferroni's correction, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient through an SPSS 18.0 program. Results: Student academic achievement with regard to college entrance system-related factors exhibited significant divergence from first year grade point averages (hereafter GPA) and natural science grades. Conclusion: This study confirmed the existence of significant differences, depending on the factors regarding the college entrance system. As a result, conducting assessment to evaluate the level of basic knowledge before college entrance is highly recommended. Also recommended is the development of a support program for students projected to have difficulties with respect to their academic achievement.

Methods: One-group pretest-post test design was used. Flipped learning was carried out for 2 hours per week for 16 weeks. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 56 EMT students from March 3 to June 16, 2016. Data were analyzed by paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS 18.0 program. Results: After completion of flipped learning, significant improvement was found in self-directed learning(t = 6.04, p < .001), academic achievement($3.25{\pm}.79$) and academic achievement((t = 6.41, p < .001). There was a significant positive correlation among self-directed learning and academic achievement. Conclusion: Flipped learning is useful teaching and learning method to the EMT students.

  • The main goal of higher education institutions is to present a high level of quality education to its students. This study uses data mining techniques to extract educational data from cumulative databases and used them to make the right decisions. This paper also aims to find the factors affecting students' academic performance in Majmaah University, KSA, during 2010 - 2017 period. The study utilized a sample of 6,158 students enrolled from two colleges, males and females. The results showed a high percentage of stumbling and dismissed between graduate and regular students where more than 62.5% failed to follow the plan. Only 2% of students scored distinction during their study of all graduated since their grade point average, secondary level, was statistically significant, where p<0.05. Dismissed percentage was higher among males. These results promoted some recommendations in which decision-makers could take them in considerations for better improvement of academic achievements: including of specialized programs to follow-up in regards to stumbling and failure. Utilization of different communication tools are needed to activate academic advisory for dismiss and dropout evaluation.

  • Purpose: The aim of this descriptive study was to identify the factors influencing depression risk among South Korean nursing students. Methods: The data were collected from nursing students attending two universities through web-based questionnaires that surveyed them about depression, academic stress, social network service (SNS) addiction tendency, and upward social comparison from August 22 to September 4, 2021. The collected data from 196 nursing students were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression. Results: The mean score of depression (using CES-D Korean version) among nursing students was 13.91, which denotes probable depression. Concerning the variance with regard to depression among nursing students, 20.2% was explained by clinical practice period, academic stress, and upward social comparison. Conclusion: Programs to relieve academic stress and depression should be developed in a simple way and systematically provided at the organizational level so that nursing students secure sufficient support during the initial and continuing period of clinical practicums. Concomitantly, an attempt to reduce the upward social comparison should be highly considered.

We conducted the program twice a week (total 10 sessions) and assessed learning motivation, teaming attitude, self-esteem, academic performance, and problem behaviors of participating children. Results : After the program, teachers reported improvement in teaming motivation. In addition, parents notified sisnificant reduction of problem behaviors. Children reported improvement in a few domains of teaming motivation and learning attitude. Conclusion : While loaming motivation is regarded as an important factor in education, there have been few studies considering this issue in both educational and psychiatric fields. The teaming motivation improvement would be needed in both field in order to reduce the deficits in academic performance in children with ADHD.

  • Based on a survey conducted on 125 students in the Department of Computer Engineering at K University, the following results were obtained by analyzing ways to improve academic ability. Male students should pay more attention to grade points management than female students before completing their military service. Students with high self-assessed academic ability score higher than students with low self-assessed academic ability. As long as students don't spend too much time, a student's part-time job is not an obstacle to their study. Compared to Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon regions, students from Gangwon and other regions should pay special attention to some pre-classes to understand regular university lectures. In undergraduate education, a student's major aptitude is not a big problem. In order to change major, students need counseling about their major's aptitude only at the beginning semester. In order to get good grades, the achievement of the will to study is more important than the will to study itself. Professors should encourage students to review what they have learned in class after class and always assure students sincerity in their studies through the counseling process.
