효소활성을 이용한 Moina macrocopa의 중금속 독성 검정 (Heavy Metal Toxicity Test in Moina macrocopa with Enzyme Activity)

  • A rapid, inexpensive enzymatic method is proposed for indirect water quality testing in terms of heavy metal toxicity. The activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase was applied for heavy metal toxicity test as an effective criterion in water quality. The toxicity of Pb (lead) and Cd (cadmium) for water flea, Moina macrocopa, were evaluated for $2{\sim}8\;days$ with variables of mobilization ability. And the reproduction impairment of Moina macrocopa were investigated as the parameter of chronic toxicity twst for Pb and Cd. As a result, the $EC_{50}$ for immobilization of Moina macrocopa were Pb and Cd were 1.6749 and 0.4683, respectively. The values of reproducive impairment to Moina macrocopa for Pb and Cd were 9.5938 and 8.3264 in $EC_{50}$. A significant alteration of G6PDH (Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) activity of Moina macrocopa was observed when Cd and Pb were treated in media. The results obtained indicate that G6PDH activity of Moina macrocopa can be used as an indicative parameter in aquatic toxicity tests for heavy metals.

일반화된 Hoek-Brown 파괴조건식의 강도정수 a와 터널 보강깊이가 원형터널의 탄소성 거동에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Strength Parameter a in the Generalized Hoek-Brown Failure Criterion and the Reinforcement Thickness on the Elasto-plastic Behavior of Circular Tunnel)

  • 터널설계 시 내공변위 예측은 흔히 탄소성 해석을 통하여 수행되므로, 탄소성 해석법은 많은 연구자들의 관심을 끌고 있는 연구 주제이다. 그러나 일반화된 Hoek-Broun 암반에 굴착된 원형터널의 탄소성 거동은 그 중요성에도 불구하고 아직까지 연구가 미진한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 Lee & Pietruszczak (2008)의 연구를 응용하여 주변이 환형으로 보강된 원형터널의 탄소성 해석을 위한 간단한 수치 해석법을 제안하였다. 터널은 일반화된 Hoek-Brown 파괴조건을 따르는 변형률연화 암반에 굴착되는 것으로 가정하였다. 제안된 방법의 검증을 위해 상업코드인 FLAC이 이용되었다. 예제 해석을 통해 Hoek-Brown 강도정수 a와 보강대의 두께가 터널 주변의 탄소성 거동에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 해석결과 이 두 변수가 터널주변의 응력 및 변위 분포에 미치는 영향은 상당히 큰 것으로 나타났다.

암석 절리면 거칠기의 정량화에 대한 연구 (I) - 문제점의 규명 (A New Quantification Method of Rock Joint Roughness (I) - A Close Assessment of Problems)

  • 기존의 전단강도 모델에서 거칠기와 전단강도를 실제보다 과소평가 하고 있는 문제의 원인을 파악하기 위하여 먼저 거칠기의 발현 특성, 거칠기 계수의 특성, 거칠기 계수에 미치는 측정 간격과 만곡 (waviness)의 효과 등을 검토하였다. 그 결과, 이러한 문제에는 거칠기의 발현특성의 고려 부족, 거칠기 계수의 오용, 거칠기의 측정 과정에서의 엘리어싱 (aliasing)이 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 확인하였다. 확인된 결과를 토대로 문제점을 개선하기 위한 실질적인 방법을 제안하였다. 거칠기 측정 방법에서는 카메라 방식의 3D 스캐너를 사용하는 것이 기존의 방법보다 유효한 것으로 확인하였다. 측정간격은 엘리어싱을 막기 위하여 전단강도에 영향을 주는 작은 돌출부의 1/4 이하가 되어야 한다. 거칠기 정량화 면에서는 거칠기 계수를 돌출부의 규모별로 2개의 성분으로 구분하여 전단 모델에 적용하여야 하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이를 위하여 돌출부의 소성파괴 개념에 근거하여 거칠기를 만곡과 요철로 구분할 수 있는 구분 기준을 제시하였으며, 새로운 전단강도 모델을 제안하기 위한 토대를 마련하였다.

SHM-based probabilistic representation of wind properties: statistical analysis and bivariate modeling

  • The probabilistic characterization of wind field characteristics is a significant task for fatigue reliability assessment of long-span railway bridges in wind-prone regions. In consideration of the effect of wind direction, the stochastic properties of wind field should be represented by a bivariate statistical model of wind speed and direction. This paper presents the construction of the bivariate model of wind speed and direction at the site of a railway arch bridge by use of the long-term structural health monitoring (SHM) data. The wind characteristics are derived by analyzing the real-time wind monitoring data, such as the mean wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, turbulence integral scale, and power spectral density. A sequential quadratic programming (SQP) algorithm-based finite mixture modeling method is proposed to formulate the joint distribution model of wind speed and direction. For the probability density function (PDF) of wind speed, a double-parameter Weibull distribution function is utilized, and a von Mises distribution function is applied to represent the PDF of wind direction. The SQP algorithm with multi-start points is used to estimate the parameters in the bivariate model, namely Weibull-von Mises mixture model. One-year wind monitoring data are selected to validate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling method. The optimal model is jointly evaluated by the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and coefficient of determination, $R^2$. The obtained results indicate that the proposed SQP algorithm-based finite mixture modeling method can effectively establish the bivariate model of wind speed and direction. The established bivariate model of wind speed and direction will facilitate the wind-induced fatigue reliability assessment of long-span bridges.

Applying Conventional and Saturated Generalized Gamma Distributions in Parametric Survival Analysis of Breast Cancer

  • Background: The generalized gamma distribution statistics constitute an extensive family that contains nearly all of the most commonly used distributions including the exponential, Weibull and log normal. A saturated version of the model allows covariates having effects through all the parameters of survival time distribution. Accelerated failure-time models assume that only one parameter of the distribution depends on the covariates. Methods: We fitted both the conventional GG model and the saturated form for each of its members including the Weibull and lognormal distribution; and compared them using likelihood ratios. To compare the selected parameter distribution with log logistic distribution which is a famous distribution in survival analysis that is not included in generalized gamma family, we used the Akaike information criterion (AIC; r=l(b)-2p). All models were fitted using data for 369 women age 50 years or more, diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in BC during 1990-1999 and followed to 2010. Results: In both conventional and saturated parametric models, the lognormal was the best candidate among the GG family members; also, the lognormal fitted better than log-logistic distribution. By the conventional GG model, the variables "surgery", "radiotherapy", "hormone therapy", "erposneg" and interaction between "hormone therapy" and "erposneg" are significant. In the AFT model, we estimated the relative time for these variables. By the saturated GG model, similar significant variables are selected. Estimating the relative times in different percentiles of extended model illustrate the pattern in which the relative survival time change during the time. Conclusions: The advantage of using the generalized gamma distribution is that it facilitates estimating a model with improved fit over the standard Weibull or lognormal distributions. Alternatively, the generalized F family of distributions might be considered, of which the generalized gamma distribution is a member and also includes the commonly used log-logistic distribution.

  • An extended study was conducted on the fracture criterion by Choung et al. (2011; 2012) and Choung and Nam (2013), and the results are presented in two parts. The theoretical background of the fracture and the results of new experimental studies were reported in Part I, and three-dimensional fracture surface formulations and verifications are reported in Part II. How the corrected true stress can be processed from the extrapolated true stress is first introduced. Numerical simulations using the corrected true stress were conducted for pure shear, shear-tension, and pure compression tests. The numerical results perfectly coincided with test results, except for the pure shear simulations, where volume locking appeared to prevent a load reduction. The average stress triaxialities, average normalized lode parameters, and equivalent plastic strain at fracture initiation were extracted from numerical simulations to formulate a new three-dimensional fracture strain surface. A series of extra tests with asymmetric notch specimens was performed to check the validity of the newly developed fracture strain surface. Then, a new user-subroutine was developed to calculate and transfer the two fracture parameters to commercial finite element code. Simulation results based on the user-subroutine were in good agreement with the test results.

Internal pressures in buildings with a dominant opening and background porosity

  • A dominant opening in a windward wall, which generates large internal pressures in a building, is a critical structural design criterion. The internal pressure fluctuations are a function of the dominant opening area size, internal volume size and external pressure at the opening. In addition, many buildings have background leakage, which can attenuate internal pressure fluctuations. This study examines internal pressure in buildings for a range of dominant opening areas, internal volume sizes and background porosities. The effects of background porosity are incorporated into the governing equation. The ratio of the background leakage area $A_L$ to dominant opening area $A_W$ is presented in a non-dimensional format through a parameter, ${\phi}_6-A_L/A_W$. Background porosity was found to attenuate the internal pressure fluctuations when ${\phi}_6$ is larger than 0.2. The dominant opening discharge coefficient, ${\kappa}$ was estimated to lie between 0.05 to 0.40 and the effective background porosity discharge coefficient ${\kappa}^{\prime}_L$, was estimated to be between 0.05 to 0.50.

  • 모드자료를 이용한 SI기법을 효과적으로 적용하기 위하여 최적 모델을 선택하는 방법을 제안하였다. 축소된 유한요소 모델 대신 가능한 상세한 유한요소 모델을 정하고 SI기법으로 식별하였다. 다만 미지변수의 수를 조절하기 위하여 부재그룹 개념을 도입하였다. 최적 모델은 시도된 부재그룹 경우 중에서 최소의 통계적 오차를 갖는 것으로 선택하였다. 본 논문에서는 단경간 box-girder교에 대한 예제 수행을 통하여 제안된 방법을 검토하였다.

  • The one-parameter singular expression for stresses and displacements near a crack tip has been widely thought to be sufficiently accurate over a reasonable re ion for any geometry and loading conditions. In many cases, however subsequent terms of the series expansion are quantitatively significant, and so we now consider the evaluation of such terms and their effect on the predicted crack growth direction. For this purpose the problem of a cracked orthotropic plate subjected to a biaxial load is analysed. It is assumed that the material is ideal homogeneous anisotropic. BY considering the effect of the load applied parallel to the plane of the crack, the distribution of stresses and displacements at the crack tip is reanalyzed. In order to determine values for the angle of initial crack extension we employ the normal stress ratio criterion.

  • 본 논문은 여러 설비시스템의 프로세스 제어에 사용되는 PID제어기의 최적 자동동조에 관한 새로운 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 이 방법은 먼저. 제어대상의 계단응답으로부터 모델링 된 1차 지연계를 Pad 근사화하고, Ziefler-Nichols의 한계감도법으로 초기값을 정한 후, 최대 오버슈트, 감쇠비, 상승시간, 정정시간에 대한 퍼지 평가함수를 초대로 하는 최적화되 PID 계수를 목표치로 하여 신경회로망의 역전파 알고리즘을 통해 충분히 반복, 학습시켜 새로운 K, L, T값을 입력하였을 때 근사적으로 최적화된 PID 계수를 구함으로써 퍼지추론에 의한 제어 규칙이 불필요하여 자동 동조시간이 짧다는 장점을 가지고 있다.
