  • This paper investigates the effects of technology collaboration between the main supplier and buyer on buyer's new product development under dynamic environment. Based on 428 Korean manufacturing firms, we conducted regression analysis. The technology collaboration between the main supplier and buyer is adopted as a independent variable and quality, cost and lead time performance of new product development projects are used as dependents variables. Environment dynamic is also used as a moderate variables. We found that the in general, technology collaboration is positively associated with the performance of buyers' new product development, but in the high degree of dynamic environment, technology collaboration is negatively associated with the performance of buyers' new product development unlike our expectation. Thus, we divide our sample into two groups; shipbuilding industry with the low degree of environment dynamic and electronic and IT device industry with the high degree of environment dynamic and conducted a post hoc analysis. As a result, in ship building industry, the technology collaboration is significant to improve NPD projects performance, while in electronic and IT device industry, the technology collaboration with a main supplier is not significant as well as coefficient is negative. In that, under the highly dynamic condition with the fast change of technology and products obsolescence the NPD collaboration with the main supplier does not works unlike a stable environment. This implies that the NPD attributes of buyer are different by their environmental factor and the fit between given environmental feature and the collaboration synergy is critical factor for improving the effect of NPD collaboration between supplier and buyer.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the types for open innovation of SMEs considering strategic- culture mixed typology and environmental dynamism. The analysis results of 182 SMEs classified into 4 groups are as follows. First, type PD had a positive effect on innovation performance in both in-bound and out-bound innovation and had improved performance through in-bound innovation in a dynamic technical environment. While DH had no significant effect on both innovations. Second, PH and DD, strategy-culture mismatched types, had a single effect of innovation that affected performance. No moderating effects of environmental dynamism had been shown in types PH, DD, DH. SMEs that aim for open innovation should strive to improve performance by aligning change-oriented strategy with creative and challenging culture.

  • The study employs the conceptual framework of the strategic success paradigm developed by Ansoff (1990). The strategic success paradigm denotes that optimal performance will be attained when the level of environmental turbulence is aligned with the strategic aggressiveness and organizational capability. Based on the paradigm, authors developed the concept of IT (information technology) aggressiveness (IT aggressiveness henceforth) and capability (IT capability henceforth). In order to clarify the different concept of IT aggressiveness and capability, the author brought the concept of IT architecture. The difference of capability and architecture lies in the depth of technical considerations. Where capability refers attitudinal aspects of managers, architecture emphasizes technical capacity of the organization as a whole. The study validated the need for alignment among IT architecture, environmental turbulence and IT aggressiveness. The imbalance between IT strategy and IT architecture (such as a higher level of IT aggressiveness but a lower level of IT architecture, or vice versa) has a marginal contribution to the organizational IT performance. The alignment among organizational environmental turbulence, IT aggressiveness, and IT architecture resulted in an optimal level of IT performance especially in a turbulent environment.

  • This study empirically verified the effect of environmental dynamism on changes in the dynamic and operational capabilities of an enterprise and its innovation performance. With the aim of quantification, the concept and definition of each capability were defined as a hierarchical structure of dynamic and operational capabilities. Five research hypotheses were established through prior research on dynamic capabilities, operational capabilities, innovation performance, and environmental dynamism. For empirical analysis, the hypotheses were verified based on surveys from 300 Korean manufacturing companies. It was shown that Dynamic capabilities had a positive relationship with operational capabilities and operational capabilities had a positive relationship with innovation performance. And it was shown that operational capabilities had a positive relationship with radical innovation in business groups with high environmental dynamism while operating capabilities had a positive relationship with gradual innovation in business groups with low environmental dynamism. Also, the moderating effect of environmental dynamism was not significant in the relationship with dynamic capabilities on operational capabilities. This study is meaningful in that it lays the groundwork for empirically verifying the dynamic capabilities of an enterprise by embodying its dynamic capabilities and operational capabilities into processes, and verifies the effect of environmental change on its capabilities and innovation performance. And it has implications to suggest how an enterprise should transform its capabilities to sustain its competitive advantage in a rapidly changing environment.

  • This aim is to explore the change of lifestyle caused by climate change and develop available adaptation policies against climate threats in Central Asia with the perspective of nomadism, which depends entirely on natural ecosystem. This article also attempts to pinpoint the dynamics between nomadic lifestyle and adaptation options for the resilience of nomadic community against climatic change threats. The adaptation options and opportunities as well as the impacts of land use change and nomadic pastoralists' lifestyle caused by climate change cannot be overemphasized. We suggest that nomadic lifestyle may aggravate the degree of vulnerability to climate change threats, whereas the capacity of nomad to successfully adapting to new environment in developing countries can be superior to that of settler lifestyle in one place in developed countries.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the role of dragging in dynamic geometry environments. Dragging is a kind of dynamic representations that dynamically change geometric figures and enable to search invariances of figures and relationships among them. In this study dragging in dynamic geometry environments is divided by three perspectives: dynamic representations, instrumented actions, and affordance. Following this review, six conclusions are suggested for future research and for teaching and learning geometry in school geometry as well: students' epistemological change of basic geometry concepts by dragging, the possibilities to converting paper-and-pencil geometry into experimental mathematics, the role of dragging between conjecturing and proving, geometry learning process according to the instrumental genesis perspective, patterns of communication or discourse generated by dragging, and the role of measuring function as an affordance of DGS.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study whether there are differences in the relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance among large, medium and small-sized enterprises. This study first assessed the immediate influence of IT utilization level on organizational performance, and then further examined the moderating effects of the organizational size and the environmental dynamism that had influences on the relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance. The empirical test revealed that IT utilization level had significant impact on organizational performance in case of all sized enterprises. But, the sub-group analysis revealed that IT utilization level had no statistically significant impact on organizational performance in case of large enterprises despite of higher IT utilization level than small and medium-sized enterprises. The relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance was not moderated significantly by environmental dynamism in case of all sized enterprises. But, the sub-group analysis revealed that environmental dynamism had significant moderating effect on the relationship between IT utilization level and organizational performance in case of large and small-sized enterprises when there was a high level of environmental dynamism.

  • One recurrent theme within the literature on 6 sigma was the study of its effect on organizational performance. Nonetheless, most research were focused on analyzing the relationships between the implementation of different elements and several types of performance. This research incorporated the effect of organizational environment as a variable for explaining the impact of 6 sigma on business results. The model was tested using regression analyses, employing a survey of employees of hotels' cuisine departments involved in 6 sigma. The causal analysis results showed that dynamism, munificence and complexity influenced the degree of implementation of the main 6 sigma principles. Similarly, the dimensions of 6 sigma had an impact on employees' work commitment. The model could be used by hotels to assess their level of 6 sigma success depending on specific environmental characteristics.

  • This study empirically examines the relationship between the characteristics of a company and its performance through open innovation. It was intended to accept open innovation as a strategic means to overcome various situations in which companies faced and to understand it as a process of generating corporate performance. In various situations, companies must overcome environmental and internal factors. As an environmental factor, the dynamics of the market and the dynamics of technology allow for the adoption of open innovation, which in turn becomes a strategic tool for generating results. In addition, the internal environment of the company should strengthen the organization's capacity considering the characteristics of the company. In order to reinforce entrepreneurial orientation, openness of organizational culture, delegation and R & D capabilities, which are internal characteristics of the company, open innovation has a positive effect on the performance of the company. In overcoming the environment given to the company, open innovation was found to be an important medium for generating various results for the company. For this study, we conducted a structured questionnaire survey on 176 Korean companies. This study suggests that open innovation is strategically accepted and understood as a management strategic philosophy in order to overcome the environment in which a company is faced and generate results.
