  • Although it has been studied for a long time in various disciplines, most of control theories remain being developed by analyzing relatively simple tasks. Even recent research on control of information systems development explains only a small part of control phenomena observed in the real world projects. This research focuses on identifying and analyzing the concepts and structures in order to make them useful for understanding and explaining control of information systems development comprehensively This investigation utilizes the complementary relationship between views on control from organizational and economic perspectives. A conceptual framework developed by integrating previous research on control allows us to analyze the development of information systems for control purposes. The results of discussion about control mechanisms and network can be used as guidelines for designing control systems in real projects. Analysis of control networks shows that control of development projects requires quite complex networks intertwining a variety of controllers and controlees. The results of this research are expected to contribute to correcting the unbalanced status of IS research which has emphasized too heavily on planning and implementation, and deepening and widening our understanding about controlling development projects. Practitioners can use the results as guidelines for designing control mechanisms and networks, and get alerted by them about the agency risks inherent in outsourced developments.

  • 3D and BIM technology are presumed to be used more and more in the construction industry. The scope of this paper arose from a general wondering of how the constructor in general can benefit from the use of 3D models. Presented herewith is the first application of BIM in Korea to a actual bridge construction site located in Cheongpoong in Chooncheongbook-Do. This paper tries to integrate design, cost and schedule under location-based conditions with industry-specific solution for 3D modeling. 292 activities constitute the cable-stayed bridge of 442m long with a main span of 327m long. Integration of 3D model, cost and schedule is shown by comparing the measurements of works at a specific time by use of 2 different construction sequencing scenarios and cost breakdown structures.

  • With the size of construction projects getting larger and more complex, the amount of information is increased exponentially. Although there are a lot of construction companies that try to accumulate as-built information from construction sites. it has not been quite satisfactory. This is due to the lack of task information framework that can measure project performance and collect as-built information. Therefore the objective of the paper is to identify the information that can be derived from daily reports and to suggest a unit task information framework to accumulate as-built information.

  • It is true that SOC facilities, such as dams, need long life cycles since more time has to be invested for the phases of planning, examination, feasibility study, design, contract, construction, and maintenance. This longer life cycle is easily exposed to the risk. And thus, brings additional cost by the delayed project, convenient loss according to the additional run of use, and benefit lose of not to using the facilities. So, the purpose of this study is to try to find a solution to reduce these time consuming problems which could diminish the whole national competition. Hence, this study is to show efficient, systematical project performance and network model by using reciprocal analyses between the construction period and cost based on economical analysis of each phase of life cycles. In addition, on the basis of these outputs, the Fast Track Method is suggested as an alternative solution as a new Approach in Life Cycle's Analysis.

  • Quality assessment of the building is strongly dependent upon satisfying owner's requirements. To develop indicators for the assessment of design quality, survey on current situation of design process and analysis of Design Quality Indicator(DQI) is performed. The survey revealed that the main cause of frequent design changes is variability feature of owner's requirements. DQI, an indicator developed in UK, questionnaire encompasses questions which are relevant throughout the development stages of a building, and can be used at every key stage of the process. Further research will focus on the development of indicators for the assessment of design quality applicable to Korean market. In addition, research on the visualization method to present assessment results and supporting tools to facilitate assessment will be considered.

  • Most data generated in construction projects is unstructured text data. Unstructured data analysis is very needed in order for effective analysis on large amounts of text-based documents, such as contracts, specifications, and RFI. This study analysed previously performed project's bid related documents (bidder inquiry) in overseas construction projects; as a results of the analysis frequent words in documents, association rules among the words, and various document topics were derived. This study suggests effective text analysis approach for massive documents with short time using text mining technique, and this approach is expected to extend the unstructured text data analysis in construction industry.

  • The active engagement of the organization employees in the quality management activities of the construction project promotes the achievement of successful management performance. This study seeks to find a mechanism to promote employee engagement. The preceding factors that promote employee engagement through previous research are employee rewards system and satisfaction. In order to verify the proposed research model, sample data of 232 construction project employees were collected and analyzed through a structural equation model. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that all the proposed variables had a significant effect on the employee engagement and the moderate effect according to the employee's position and labor contract. The results of this study are expected to provide useful theoretical and practical implications for researchers and managers seeking ways to promote the engagement of organization employees from a broader perspective for the activation of quality management activities of construction companies.

  • In Common Criteria evaluation scheme, sponsor and evaluator should estimate evaluation cost and duration of IT security system evaluation in contracting the evaluation project. In this paper, We analyzed study result that achieve at 2003 and 2005, and utilized part of study result. And we empirically estimate relative evaluation effort ratios among evaluation assurance levels($EAL1{\sim}EAL7$) in CC v2.3 and CC v3.1. Also, we estimate the ratios from 'developer action elements', adjusted 'content and presentation of evidence elements', and 'evaluator action elements 'for each assurance component. We, especially, use ratio of amount of effort for each 'evaluator action elements', that was obtained from real evaluators in KISA in 2003. Our result will useful for TOE sponsor as well as evaluation project manager who should estimate evaluation cost and duration for a specific EAL and type of TOE, in a new CC v3.1 based evaluation schem.

  • Cloud Computing has drawn attention as one of 10 IT strategic technology trends and has various advantages such as cost reduction and enhancing business flexibility. However, corporations hesitate to adopt the service because of unexpected risks. Especially compared to large firm, medium and small ones use public cloud that security risk is high. Meanwhile, real option strategy has drawn attention as the method to hedge uncertainty in IT projects. Therefore, in this study causal relationships among technical, security, relational, and economic risks of cloud service will be investigated. Eventually, this study investigates how those risks influence the intention to choose the real option about the cloud service. For this study, five hypotheses is drawn, and a survey is conducted about the medium and small firms which are currently using cloud service to examine hypotheses. Since the study is at organizational level, 287 questionnaire replies are recalculated to 120 firms. For statistical analysis, Smart PLS and SPSS Statistics18 are used. As a result, technical risk of cloud service has significantly positive influence on security risk. Second, security risk and relational risk of cloud service has significantly positive influence on economic risk. Third, economic risk of cloud service has significantly positive influence on the intention to purchase the delay option or abandon option. Based on this result, this research discussed practical and academic implications and the limitations.
