  • This study analyzed the structural relationship between peer communication experienced by ninth and twelfth graders who will undergo school transition, self-efficacy, depression, and life satisfaction. Through this, the study aimed to gain an understanding on ways to improve adolescents' life satisfaction from a life-span developmental perspective. It especially attempted to investigate whether a positive attitude toward oneself and negative emotions play a mediating role in the relationship between peer communication, which can provide environmental support for adolescents, and life satisfaction. To this end, the data of ninth grade (third year, 2012) and twelfth grade (sixth year, 2015) of the 7th Grade Panel of Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) were used. The key results of study are as follows. First, peer communication, self-efficacy, and depression had a significant effect on life satisfaction directly and indirectly. Second, peer communication affected life satisfaction indirectly by the media of self-efficacy and depression. These findings suggested the importance of self-efficacy and depression in promoting adolescents' healthy and satisfactory lives that lead to adulthood. Also, the study suggested that the environmental background of adolescents in a transition can improve life satisfaction through training and counseling on cognitive and emotional factors.

  • This study investigated how variables of internalizing and externalizing problematic behaviors change according to gender and as time passes by and how the variables influence adolescent problematic behaviors. The variables selected for the analysis are personal variables, parent variables, peer and school variables, and community variables. longitudinal data collected for 4 years from the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS) were utilized for the analysis. Data were collected initially from 2,707 fifth grade elementary students in 2005 and they were traced until 2008. The final respondents were 2,448 students. The findings are as follows. Frist, the statistical significance was found in changes of problematic behavioral variables in terms of the gender difference. Second, variables, such as self-esteem and self-control are negatively correlated to the problematic behaviors and stress level is strongly positively correlated to the behaviors. Third, the study pressure and peer attachment level are correlated to the initial value of internalizing problematic behaviors. In conclusion, given that more statistical significances were found at initial values than the change rates among variables, early intervention is important in addressing adolescent problematic behaviors.

  • The theses is an analytical comparison research between 'Skills Link' and 'Do Dream' : the former is an effective program to establish a variety of intervention strategies and the institutional foundation for employment support of disadvantaged youth, performed by ESDC in the level of the nation, and the latter is the program which is carried out by K-Dream Center of MGEF in South Korea. As for the research method, comparison and analysis have been fulfilled, focusing on the employment support program. The research includes program background, goal, participation subject, selection standard, program contents, support period, support cost, and program effect. It suggests that we should design the systematic program for the youth in the transition to independency and perform constant support. It is necessary to select beneficiary on the consideration of the characteristics and situation of the disadvantaged youth. In addition, it is required to secure consistency of the program and enlarge the support period. For the sake of successful performance of the independent living program, it is a necessity to motivate the youth and introduce the ways to encourage the business sector to take part in.

  • Curriculum content interest has been studied in terms of teachers rather than students in ways that help revise curriculum and develop textbooks. In this study, 227 first-year high school students were interested in what they learned in middle school and what they learned in high school, focusing on meaningful assumptions and contents for middle school and high school students. We analyze this difference in interest by gender and achievement level. According to the research results, first-year high school students, who are in the middle and high school transition period, have relatively high interest in themselves, such as youth development, compared to family needs or interest in family life. There were no gender differences, but there were differences in content interest depending on the level of achievement. This means that the content interest should be interpreted by considering various variables such as the development of learners, the situation of learners in the school-level transition period, and the entrance examination of universities. The results of this study will provide implications for future curriculum revisions, textbook development, and curriculum considerations, and will need to be carefully analyzed and utilized based on a learner-centered perspective.
