The Effect of School Parents ′ Parenting Stress on the Child Abuse Awareness : Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Self-esteem (학부모의 양육스트레스가 아동학대인식에 미치는 영향 : 자아존중감의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study aimed to analyse the relationship between the parenting stress and the awareness of school parents' child abuse. This study also examined the mediating effect of school parents' self-esteem between the parenting stress and the awareness of child abuse. Data were collected from 389 school parents residing A city of Gyeonggi-do. The results of analysing as follows : 1) the variable of the parenting stress of school parents had negative statistic association with the awareness of child abuse. 2) the self-esteem of school parents was found to mediate between the parenting stress and the awareness of child abuse. Based on these study results, several suggestions were made to improve the awareness of school parents' child abuse in terms of the reduction of their parenting stress and the enhancement of their self-esteem. This study has the significance of the convergence approach in terms of pedagogy, psychology, social welfare.

Effects of the Enneagram Group Counseling Program on Interpersonal Relationship, Self-esteem and Stress Coping Strategy in Nursing Students (에니어그램 집단상담 프로그램이 간호대학생의 대인관계, 자아존중감 및 스트레스 대처에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to examine effects of enneagram group counseling program for the improving interpersonal relationship, self esteem and stress coping strategy in nursing students. The subjects were 69 (Experimental. 31, Control. 38) nursing students in G city and J city who were support to enneagram group counseling program. The program consisted of 8 sessions and conducted from November 23 to December 15, 2016. The study variables were 'interpersonal relationship', 'self esteem' and 'stress coping strategy' surveyed by self-reported questionnaires. The score of interpersonal relationship (t=3.41, p=.001) and self esteem (t=2.60, p=.012) of experimental group showed significantly higher than those of control group after enneagram group counseling program. However, there were no statistical differences in stress coping (t=.10, p=.925) between the two groups. This shows that enneagram group counseling program for nursing students was effective in increasing on the change of interpersonal relationship and self esteem.

Factors Influencing Depression in Married Middle-aged Men (기혼 중년 남성의 우울에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study aimed to identify factors influencing depression in married middle-aged men. Subjects were 141 married middle-aged men (40~60 years) living in C and D city. Questionnaires included general characteristics, body mass index, marital intimacy, self-esteem, life event stress, and depression. Data were collected from August 15 to October 20, 2020. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression using SPSS Win 23.0. As a results, depression had a significantly negative correlation with marital intimacy (r=-.44, p<.001) and self-esteem (β=-.40, p<.001). Self-esteem had a significantly positive correlation with marital intimacy (r=.48, p<.001). Factors influencing depression in marital middle-aged men were marital intimacy (β=-.24, p=.003) and self-esteem (β=-.40, p<.001). These variables explained 32.1% of depression. To reduce depression of married middle-aged men, nursing strategies considering marital intimacy and self-esteem must be provided to the middle-aged men.

The Relationship between Self-esteem and Happiness of Nursing Students: Mediating Effect of Rejection Sensitivity (간호대학생의 자아존중감과 행복감의 관계: 거부민감성의 매개 효과)

  • This study aimed to verify the mediating effect of rejection sensitivity on the relationship between self-esteem and happiness among nursing students. From May 30 to June 10, 2018, 214 nursing students from a university were selected for convenience, and the results were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The degree to which the rejection sensitivity of nursing students is mediated by self-esteem and happiness was determined following the guidelines of Baron and Kenny, and the Sobel test was used to verify the statistical significance of the mediated effects. There was a positive correlation between self-esteem and happiness among nursing students(r=.62, p<.001) and a negative correlation between rejection sensitivity and happiness(r=-.33, p<.001). A partially mediated effect (Z=3.769, p<.001) of rejection sensitivity was found on the relationship between self-esteem and happiness of nursing students. Therefore, education and activity programs are needed to increase the happiness of nursing students and help them maintain a satisfactory college life.

Factors Affecting of life stress in Middle-aged on Depression: -Mediating effect of Self-esteem and Social support- (중년 남성의 생활스트레스가 우울에 미치는 영향 -자아존중감, 사회적 지지의 매개효과-)

  • This study was conducted to confirm the mediating effect of self-esteem and social support in the relationship between life stress and depression in middle-aged men. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program, t-test, ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient, SPSS Process Macro (Model 4), and bootstrapping approach. As a result of this study, when considering the effect of self-esteem, a parameter in the relationship between life stress and depression, the direct effect of life stress on depression was .49. Considering the effect of social support as a parameter, the direct effect of life stress on depression was .50. That is, when the parameters were not considered, life stress decreased compared to the overall effect of .62 on depression. Through this, it was confirmed that self-esteem and social support had a mediating effect in the relationship between life stress and depression.

Effects of Depression, Sleep and Self-Esteem on Dementia Preventive Behavior in Rural Elderly People (농촌노인의 우울, 수면, 자아존중감이 치매예방행위에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of depression, sleep, and self-esteem on a dementia preventive behavior in rural elderly people. The participants were 235 elderly people aged 60 or older who lived in J-Gun, J-Do. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. There were significant differences in the dementia preventive behavior according to religion, the level of education, a cohabitation type, an economic level, and dementia education experience. Participants' dementia preventive behavior was positively correlated with self-esteem (r=.52, p<.001) and sleep (r=.31, p<.001). However, it was negatively correlated with depression (r=-.57, p<.001). Factors affecting the dementia preventive behavior were depression, self-esteem, and religion. The explanatory power of variables was 37%. To increase a dementia prevention behavior in rural elderly people, it is necessary to develop dementia prevention programs to reduce depression and improve self-esteem and to create social conditions to facilitate various social participations such as a religious activity.

The Effect of Perceived Parenting Style on Life Satisfaction Among Adolescents Transitioning from Middle to High Schools: Testing the Mediating Effect of Self-esteem

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between perceived parenting style and life satisfaction among adolescents transitioning from middle to high schools and to ascertain whether self-esteem functions as a mediating variable between the two aforementioned variables. Based on the results of literature review, a research model, in which there were perceived parenting style, self-esteem, and life satisfaction as latent variables, was designed. The current study analyzed the 6th and 7th wave data of the 4th grade panel of elementary school from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Major results were as follows. First, perceived democratic parenting style had a significant positive effect on life satisfaction whereas controlling parenting style did not have a significant impact on life satisfaction. Second, self-esteem partially mediated the effect of perceived democratic parenting style on life satisfaction. Third, self-esteem fully mediated the effect of perceived controlling parenting style on life satisfaction. Finally, implications and recommendations were provided to improve parenting style and to enhance self-esteem of adolescents experiencing school transitions.

The Influence of Experience to be Heard in the Home and School Settings and Self-esteem on the Human Rights Awareness in Middle and High School Students: Differences in Human Rights Education (중고등학생의 가정 및 학교에서 의견 청취 경험, 자아존중감이 인권 인식에 미치는 영향: 인권교육에 따른 차이 검증)

  • This study aims to explore the structural relationships among experiences of being heard in home and school settings, self-esteem, and human rights awareness. Among the 2017 NYPI Cross-sectional Survey on the Rights of Youth & Children, 6,405 middle and high school students (47.8% females) were used to conduct a structural equation modeling using Mplus. It was found that children who experience being heard in the home or school display higher levels of self-esteem and awareness of human rights. It was also found that self-esteem is more likely to increase awareness of human rights. Self-esteem was also found to mediate the pathway between the experience of being heard at home or school and human rights awareness. In addition, there was no significant difference in path coefficients depending on whether they received human rights education. Practical implications for promoting home and school environments where children's opinions can be heard were discussed.

The Untact Era, the Influence of Interpersonal Ability, Self-esteem on Communication skills in Nursing Freshman (언택트 시대, 간호학과 신입생의 대인관계 능력, 자아존중감이 의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is a descriptive study to investigate the influence of interpersonal relationships and self-esteem on communication skills of nursing freshmen in the untact era. The subjects of this study were 336 nursing freshmen at a university located in w city. The data was collected from 11st to 21st, May 2020. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, Person's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, the interpersonal skills of the subjects showed a positive correlation with self-esteem and communication skills, and it was found that there was a positive correlation between self-esteem and communication skills. The interpersonal sub-factors affecting communication skills were communication, understanding, openness, sensitivity, and satisfaction. Therefore, It is necessary to make efforts to improve communication skills of students enrolled in the nursing department in the untact era, and educational interventions and educational interventions that can enhance communication skills by utilizing interpersonal skills and self-esteem are needed.

The Effect of Decision-making Attitudes within the Family on the Human Rights Awareness of Adolescents: Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem (가족 내 의사결정 태도가 청소년의 인권의식에 미치는 영향: 자아존중감의 매개효과)

  • This study examines the mediating effect of self-esteem in the influence of family decision-making attitudes on adolescents' human rights awareness. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, data from the Korea Youth Policy Research Institute surveyed in 2018 were used and analyzed. After extracting 693 adolescents with part-time work experience among all respondents in this data, missing values, outliers, and weights were removed, and a total of 511 people were selected as final research subjects. The SPSS WIN 25.0 program was used to verify the influence and mediating effect between measurement variables. As a result of the analysis, the partial mediating effect of self-esteem was confirmed in the influence of decision-making attitudes within the family on the human rights consciousness of adolescents. In addition, the Sobel Test was conducted to confirm the significance of the mediating effect of self-esteem. Based on the results of this study, the necessity of social welfare intervention was suggested for desirable communication between parents and children, raising awareness of human rights and enhancing self-esteem suggested.
