  • In this paper, we have analyzed the effect of SNR estimation error on the BER performance of MMSE-DFE in high-speed binary CDMA system. Since MMSE equalization algorithm requires the SNR value of input signal, it should be estimated using CAZAC sequence in preamble. However, when AWGN and ISI exist simultaneously, it is impossible to estimate the exact SNR value of input signal and thereby equalizer's performance may be deteriorated. The simulation results can be used as a guideline for selection of SNR estimation algorithm for MMSE-DFE design.

  • The performance of a bimodal system is affected by the accuracy of the endpoint detection from the input signal as well as the performance of the speech recognition or lipreading system. In this paper, we propose the endpoint detection method which detects the endpoints from the audio and video signal respectively and utilizes the signal to-noise ratio (SNR) estimated from the input audio signal to select the reliable endpoints to the acoustic noise. In other words, the endpoints are detected from the audio signal under the high SNR and from the video signal under the low SNR. Experimental results show that the bimodal system using the proposed endpoint detector achieves satisfactory recognition rates, especially when the acoustic environment is quite noisy.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to residual echo suppression (RES) algorithm based on tracking echo-presence uncertainty (TEPU) to improve the performance of acoustic echo suppression (AES) in the frequency domain. In the proposed method, the ratio of the microphone input and the echo-suppressed output signal power is employed as the threshold value for the decision rule to estimate the echo-presence uncertainty applied to the RES filter. The proposed RES scheme estimates the echo presence uncertainty in each frequency bin and effectively reduces residual echo signal in a simple fashion. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the objective test and yields better results compared with the conventional schemes.

  • We propose two feedback interference cancellers(FICs) to improve the performance of the equalization digital on-channel repeater(EDOCR) with the FIC for the ATSC DTV broadcasting system. The FIC estimates the feedback channel between Tx. and Rx. antennas of the repeater by cross-correlating the reference signal and the feedback signal. Since there is a DC pilot which ruins the white property of the ATSC DTV signals, the FIC cannot estimate the feedback channel accurately. To solve the problem, the structural method which uses an additional DC pilot free reference for feedback channel estimation and the algorithmic method based on the digital signal processing which whitens the ATSC DTV signals and performs the feedback cancellation in the whitened signal domain. Simulation results show that the proposed two FICs show better feedback cancellation performance than the conventional FIC.

  • Electro-optical sigma-delta modulators are the core module of digital receiver to digitize wideband radio-frequency signals directly at an antenna. Electro-optical sigma-delta modulators use a pulsed laser to oversample an input radio-frequency signals at two Mach-Zehnder Interferometer(MZI) and shape the quantization noise using a fiber-lattice accumulator. Decimation filtering is applied to the quantizer output to construct the input signal with high resolution. The jitter affects greatly on reconstructing the original input signal of modulator. This paper analyzes the performance of first order single bit electro-optical sigma-delta modulator in the time domain and the frequency domain. The performance of modulator is analyzed by using asynchronous spectral averaging of the reconstructed signal's spectrum in the frequency domain. The reference value of time jitter is presented by analyzing the performance of jitter effects. This kind of jitter value can be used as a reference value on the design of modulators.

  • In this Paper, a new type of feedforward linearizer using a delay line which controls the phase characteristics of the correction amplifier block is proposed. The extra delay line provides the control-ability of IM signals so that the IM rejection is accomplished without the conventional pilot tone. The error signal loop consists of several key components such as phase shifter and attenuator, subtractor. These key components are replaced by new designs in order to obtain better linearization characteristics without the pilot tone generator which is indispensable in the conventional linearizer designs. The proposed linearizer was designed at Korean PCS band and combined with 35W HPA manufactured by KMW inc., and tested with two-tone signals separated 0.6MHz apart at the center frequency of 1855MHz. The experimental results show C/l improvement by 16.9 ~ 24.6 dB over 15 dB dynamic range(30 ~45 dBm) which gave IMD of 58.5~63.2 dBc for the designed LPA.

  • Excore Nuclear Flux Monitoring System in Nuclear Power Plant monitors continuous reactor power up to maximum 200%. The monitoring method, however, has to be different depending on the reactor power level. Because the logarithmic pulse signals must be counted and processed exactly due to large uncertainty if their levels are low, on the other hand, they must be processed through statistical methodolgies if theirs are high to get exact monitoring values, in point of thermal degradation view. Therefore, we developed thermal degradation input signal selection circuit to transfer low level reactor power monitoring circuit to high level reactor power circuit at rated value in this paper. We proved their validities through testing them using real data used in nuclear power plant and analyzed their results. And, These methods will be used to measure the neutron level of excore nuclear flux monitoring system in nuclear power plant.

  • In this paper, we performed the design study of a wide-band digital autocorrelation spectrometer for the observation study of an extra-galaxy's spectral lines and the survey research of the special radio sources in field of the radio astronomy observational research. The autocorrelation spectrometer designed in this paper can be used to their spectrometer of any system because this spectrometer has a wide dynamic power and frequency range properties. In this system we use the aliasing sampling method to minimize the band loss. For the output signal of the correlator we can increase the signal processing speed using by a special DSP chip, the integration and the FFT using hardware, so this spectrometer can support the newest developed technique for the radio astronomy observation so called “On the fly” method.

  • Automatic modulation classification(AMC) is a core technique in Software Defined Radio(SDR) platform that enables smart and flexible spectrum sensing and access in a wide frequency band. In this study, we propose a simple yet accurate deep learning-based method that allows AMC for variable-size radio signals. To this end, we design a classification architecture consisting of two Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)-based models, namely main and small models, which were trained on radio signal datasets with two different signal sizes, respectively. Then, for a received signal input with an arbitrary length, modulation classification is performed by augmenting the input samples using a self-replicating padding technique to fit the input layer size of our model. Experiments using the RadioML 2018.01A dataset demonstrated that the proposed method provides higher accuracy than the existing methods in all signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) domains with less computation overhead.

  • It is known that the problem of FIR filtering with noisy input and output data can be solved by a total least squares (TLS) estimation. It is also known that the performance of the TLS estimation is very sensitive to the ratio between the variances of the input and output noises. In this paper, we propose a convex combination algorithm between the ordinary recursive LS based TLS (RTLS) and the ordinary recursive LS (RLS). This combined algorithm is robust to the noise variance ratio and has almost the same complexity as the RTLS. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs near TLS in noise variance ratio ${\gamma}{\approx}1$ and that it outperforms TLS and LS in the rage of 2 < $\gamma$ < 20. Consequently, the practical workability of the TLS method applied to noisy data has been significantly broadened.
