  • College tuition is a significant economic, social, and political issue in Korea. We conduct a Bayesian analysis of a hierarchical model to address the factors related to college tuition based on a survey data collected by Statistics Korea. A binary response variable is selected depending on if more than 70% of tuition costs are supported by parents, and a hierarchical Probit model is constructed with areas as groups. A set of explanatory variables is selected from a factor analysis of available variables in the survey. A Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm is used to estimate parameters. From the analysis results, income and stress are significantly related to college tuition support from parents. Parents with high income tend to support children's college tuition and students with parents' financial support tend to be mentally less stressed; subsequently, this shows that the economic status of parents significantly affects the mental health of college students. Gender, a healthy life style, and college satisfaction are not significant factors. Comparing areas in terms of the degrees of correlation between stress/income and tuition support from parents, students in Kangwon-do are the most mentally stressed when parents' support is limited; in addition, the positive correlation between parents support and income is stronger in big cities compared to provincial areas.

  • This study explored moderating effects of parental attachment andparental monitoring in the relationship between stress and problem behavior among Korean adolescents. The Korean Youth Panel Study (KYPS) was used as sample data with a total of 2,503 11th grade students involved in this study. Results of hierarchical regression analyses showed that parental attachment (for both male and female adolescents) and parental monitoring (for male adolescents) played the role of moderators in the relationship between stress and problem behavior. That is, good parental attachment and monitoring reduced stress inducing problem behavior for male adolescents but only parental attachment reduced stress inducing problem behavior for female adolescents. Conclusions highlighted the importance of parents' role in the prevention of adolescent problem behavior.

  • In this study, the Korea Youth Policy Institute applied a self-registering model to verify the patterns of parental stress, multicultural youth psychological maladjustment, and interdependence between three factors by using five-point-time data tracked from middle school to high school. According to the analysis, First, Parent' stress at the time of the five surveys had a significant positive effect on the psychological maladjustment and the risk of academic interruption of multicultural adolescents at that point. Second, the psychological maladaptation of multicultural adolescents at the time of the previous five surveys had a significant positive effect on the risk of academic interruption at that point. Based on these analysis results, various support measures were proposed to cope with the stress of multicultural youth parents, and policy alternatives were proposed to prevent the risk of academic interruption by reducing the psychological maladjustment of multicultural youth.

This study uses panel data from a total of 1,357 elementary school students who participated in the 13th Child Panel Study of the Korea Child Care Policy Institute. The data were analysed using SPSS 24 and AMOS 24.0 programs. The results showed that children's academic stress was negatively related to peer attachment, positively related to parental achievement pressure, and negatively related to career maturity. Each variable was found to have a direct effect, and academic stress had an indirect effect on career maturity through the mediation of peer attachment and parental achievement pressure. In conclusion, it is recommended that school social work support that considers the causal relationship of all variables is necessary to improve children's career maturity.

The frequency and percentage were calculated and analyzed for each research period, research topic, research type, and research subject. The research results were as follows. First, from 1998 to 2019, there was a continuous increase in each period. Second, regarding the research subject, the themes related to parents were the most researched, followed by the child, parenting environment, and parent-child. Among the topics related to parents, research on the variables related to parenting beliefs and behaviors was the highest. Third, quantitative research was absolute, and no qualitative research was conducted. Among the quantitative studies, the most common test method was through a questionnaire. Fourth, regarding each research subject, the research of mothers was dominant, followed by mother-infant, parent, and parent-infant-teacher. This study is significant because it provides an opportunity to broaden the scope of research and academic interest in the parenting stress of infancy parents.
