  • The purpose of this study is to analyze ego state types of teacher librarians by using egogram of the Transactional Analysis. It is the ideal ego state types for teachers that NP (Nurturing Parent), A (Adult) and FC (Free Child) are much higher than CP (Critical Parent) and AC (Adapted Child). But the teacher librarians are under higher CP and AC rather than A and FC. It means that the teacher librarians consider their values and belief as right things. Also it seams that they have not a conciliatory attitude but a hardened attitude that emphasize rules and standards. These ego state may be obstacle to their instructors role under the constructivist learning environment highlighting self directed learning of students. So, in the training course for the teacher librarians, informational and educational service course and development programs of education contents and instructional materials should be reinforced in order to strengthen their teaching competence and partnerships.

  • Service learning usually has two aspects. One aspect is associated with applying class learning to related fields. The other aspect is associated with challenging and dynamic volunteering experiences. This study examined experiences of 70 social work students who took service learning courses at a university. After the courses, these students were asked regarding (1) evaluation and satisfaction of overall service learning experiences, (2) evaluation of service learning contents and the following activities, (3) the process of volunteering activities, and (4) the differences between service learning courses and other regular courses. Results were as follows: students generally regarded service learning experiences as positive; students reported understanding of social work practice and learning of professional skills; however, the service learning courses seemed to be very demanding in time and adjusting personal schedules; teamwork among students seemed to be good, especially in cooperation and emotional support; however, some students reported struggling experiences in allocating roles among team members; finally, the relationship between students and social workers at the agencies and the coordination of community resources seemed to be weak. In order for service learning courses to be more effective, this study presented some suggestions in the conclusion.

  • International volunteering in education is one of activities in volunteering. Volunteers have been recognizing that educational activities play an important role in volunteering. Recently, there is an increase of participants and various supports for educational volunteering in South Korea. However, regardless of the essential meanings in which activities commonly attempt for deriving local sources in terms of human and resources, many participants in volunteering take advantages of their own purposes and providing their supports in terms of a mercy. This study asserts that this situation comes from the lack of theoretical understanding of volunteering. Therefore, this study realizes a need of providing a theoretical background and purports to suggest it for international volunteering in education. It is the critical pedagogy. Critical pedagogy tries to deconstruct false-consciousness of the oppressed through education. And, it emphasizes that people could have autonomy and self-directed sovereignty. Accordingly, critical pedagogy should be a theoretical background of activities for deriving human's autonomous consciousness and their own resources. Thus, it might be a theoretical background for international volunteering in education.

  • What is the life of an assistant professor working at a college of education look like? The purpose of this paper is to describe and understand the life of an assistant professor as a science education researcher and as a teacher educator from exploring his life in a local national university. The researcher (I) conducted an autobiographic research in which I reconstructed and reflected my life by myself. I collected data/records on the life of myself, and developed a framework to classify them. The life of an assistant professor was categorized into the official life at the university and the personal life, and the former was sorted into education, research, and service and the latter was divided into personal and family. From the various profiles of my life, I found the main theme of 'change' and 'learning,' from which I reconstructed my life in narratives. I can express myself as an assistant professor with 'from myself to others,' 'balancing society and isolation,' and 'increasing room to maneuver through continuous learning.' I reflected my life and the role of a professor at a college of education, and discussed the educational implication of the result.
