Since students of the College of Maritime Sciences will become professionals contributing to the development of the Korean shipping industry after graduation, they are required to successfully complete school life including theoretical and practical curriculum with health promotion behavior. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing health promotion behavior by students of the College of Maritime Science in order to collect basic data through a survey for the development of health promotion programs. Health promotion behavior by students of the College of Maritime Sciences was less frequent than by other college students, and the levels of health promotion behavior sub-domains were lower in order of interpersonal relations, spiritual growth, stress management, nutrition, physical activity, and health responsibility. The most influential factors for health promotion behavior were learner participation, health promotion self-efficacy, self-esteem, and social support. It is necessary to develop a differentiated health promotion program considering the characteristics of students and to apply it systematically from the time of admission to improve health promotion behavior by students of the College of Maritime Sciences.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between smoking status, stress, self-efficacy for smoking cessation and the health promoting behaviors of students who want to quit smoking. Methods : Data was collected in 2018 from 143 college students (101 males and 42 females) who were enrolled in the health clinic of N university. The average age was 21.95 years. Multiple regression analysis and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used to analyzed the factors affecting health promoting behavior and the correlations between variables. Results : There were statistically significant correlations between stress and the following factors: smoking motivation (r=.323, p<.001), smoking behavior (r=.329, p<.001), and health promoting behaviors (r=-.312, p=.006). There were statistically significant correlations between Self-efficacy for smoking cessation and following factors: smoking motivation (r=-.278, p<.01), smoking behaviors (r=-.313, p<.001), and stress (r=-.324, p<.001). Health promoting behaviors were negatively correlated with smoking motivation (r=-.345, p<.05), smoking behaviors (r=-.312, p<.01), and stress (r=-.265, p<.001). Self-efficacy for smoking cessation was positively correlated with health-promoting behaviors (r=.421, p<.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the following factors exert a significant influence on health promoting behaviors: smoking motivation (${\beta}=-.376$, p=.001), smoking behaviors (${\beta}=-.233$, p=.008), stress (${\beta}=-.278$, p=.006), and self-efficacy for smoking cessation (${\beta}=.403$, p=.000). Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that it is important to provide basic data for the development of a program for the health-promoting behaviors of university students who want to quit smoking a smoking cessation clinic at the university health clinic. However, since only some college students were included in the study, there are limitations in generalizing the results.

Purpose : This descriptive study examined the correlation between college life stress, self-leadership, sociality, and the three variables of nursing students. Methods : This study surveyed 225 college students majoring in nursing at City B from May to June 2021. The collected data were analyzed for frequency, percentage ratio, mean, and standard deviation using SPSS/WIN 22.0. For the analysis, t-test, analysis of variance, Scheffé's test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used. Results : The college life stress of nursing students was 2.12±0.67, self-leadership was 3.41±0.59, and sociality was 3.19±0.42. College life stress as measured by grade (F=3.49, p=.016), major satisfaction(F=3.83, p=.005), happiness index(F=6.38, p=.000), and health status(F=4.61, p<.001) showed significant differences. Self-leadership showed a significant difference in satisfaction with college majors(F=7.02, p=.000). Sociality showed significant differences in college satisfaction(F=3.88, p=.005), happiness index(F=2.72, p=.031), and health status (F=2.92, p=.022). Self-leadership and sociality were positively correlated(r=.147, p=.028). Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, repeated research on college life stress, self-leadership, and sociality of nursing students is required, and attention and effort are needed to develop programs that can reduce college life stress and foster self-direction.
The present study aimed to investigate whether there would be differences in the severity of PTSD symptoms, self and others concepts between trauma types. Among 166 university students, 61 (simple trauma's n = 31, complex trauma's n = 30) finally met the criteria and completed the Life Events Checklist, Impact of the Event Scale-Revised, and the emotional Stroop task. The results were as follows: firstly, PTSD symptoms were higher in complex trauma group than single trauma group. Secondly, response time in the complex trauma group was longer in the condition that the negative word related to 'self' was presented for 2 seconds compared to the single trauma group. These results suggest that the complex trauma group has different features at least in the severity of PTSD symptoms and the concept of the self, compared with the single trauma group. Finally, the therapeutic implications and limitations of the study were discussed.
This study aims to systematically review literature on organizational socialization in the field of nursing. The keywords of 'organizational socialization' and 'nursing' were combined with the AND operator, and the author analyzed the total of 26 journal articles published between 2010 and 2020. The number of journal articles on organizational socialization has increased since 2016, and all the articles took an descriptive study approach. It was found that the variables of resilience, role stress, perception of justice, bullying, professional self-concept, and organizational climate could affect organizational socialization, and the variables of intention to leave, intention on retention, resilience, and organizational commitment could be affected by organizational socialization. The result of this study can be used for guiding organizational socialization research in nursing.
This study aimed to examine the influence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on areas of Korean medical students' lives, assess concerns, and investigate the strategies they used to cope with stress due to the pandemic. An online survey with a total of 53 items on the impact of COVID-19, concerns, and coping strategies was sent to medical students, and responses were collected from April 27, 2021 to May 30, 2021. In total, 1,329 students were included in the study. Analysis was performed using the chi-square test, independent-sample t-test, and one-way analysis of variance, and the post-hoc Scheffé test or Games-Howell test was performed for multiple comparisons. The main negative impacts of the pandemic were on hobbies/leisure activities and mental health, and medical students expressed the highest levels of concern regarding restriction of movement, returning to everyday life, and risk of infection for family and friends. Female students more strongly agreed that COVID-19 had increased their depressed mood and anxiety (p<0.001 and p=0.003, respectively). Furthermore, the negative impacts of the pandemic on different areas of life significantly affected current levels of depressed mood and anxiety. To cope with pandemic-related stress, students used several strategies such as talking with family or friends (91.5%), sleeping (83.1%), exercising (72.8%), using social networking services (60.8%), drinking alcohol (37.8%), and practicing meditation/mindfulness (24.4%); the effectiveness of these strategies ranged from 3.45 to 4.19 on a 5-point Likert-type scale (1-5). The study findings suggest that COVID-19 has influenced the mental health of medical students and raised concerns in many areas of their lives. Students used various strategies to cope with the pandemic-related stress; since the effectiveness of frequently used approaches varied, it is essential to guide medical students to develop effective coping strategies.
This study aims to explore the research trends of hospice that were published in KCI from July 2003 to 2022. Using Korea Citation Index, a total of 115 papers were selected for data analysis. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that can affect transition shock in newly-graduated nurses. Methods: The first descriptive written survey was conducted on 450 graduate students from five nursing colleges. After their employment, the second survey was conducted on 316 participants who had responded to the first survey. A total of 158 respondents were used for the final analysis. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, ANOVA, Tukey test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis with the SPSS Win 25.0 Program. Results: The average age of the participants was 24.25±4.47. Of the participants, 126 (79.8%) were satisfied that they had majored in nursing. The average score for transition shock was 2.61±0.55 points. Factors influencing the transition shock of newly-graduated nurses were the working department, working period, and working environment. The more positively the newly-graduated nurses perceived the nursing work environment, the less of a transition shock they experienced. Grade point average, clinical competence, confidence in performing core nursing skills, and nursing professionalism did not affect their transition shock. It could be confirmed that there is a gap between college nursing education and the clinical field. Conclusion: In order to reduce the transition shock of newly-graduated nurses, it is necessary to improve the nursing work environment and apply educational and emotional support strategies according to the characteristics of each work department and the period of work.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between health knowledge, health attitude, social support, self-efficacy, and health promotion behaviors among nursing students in medically underserved areas using the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model, as well as to identify the factors influencing health promotion behaviors. The study was conducted from October 1 to October 20, 2022, with 157 nursing students residing in medically underserved areas G. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0 program, including descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the factors affecting health promotion behaviors were school life satisfaction, stress management, social support, and self-efficacy, with social support being the most significant factor. The total explanatory power was 84.9%. Based on these results, we hope to develop a health promotion program that can increase the interest of nursing students in health promotion and encourage active participation in health behaviors, which can contribute to becoming a healthy nurse.
The purpose of this study was to examine implicit associations of negative emotion (i.e. anxiety and depression) and self among a college students having experienced posttraumatic stress symptoms. The participants were 61 college students(male 16, female 45). They were classified into two groups, trauma group(n=35) and control group(n=26) according to scores of Korean version of Impact of Events Scale-Revised. Two groups were compared with regard to automatic self-anxious and self-depressive associations measured with the Implicit Association Test using both words and facial expression pictures, respectively. As results, trauma group showed more enhanced self-anxious association in the words conditions, and stronger self-anxious and self-depressive associations in the pictures conditions than control group, whereas there were no significant differences between two groups in explicit cognition and depression. These results suggest that traumatic experiences could influence self-concepts in the automatic process. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
