  • Software developing education teaches students computer programming, which allows them to actively use IT and talk to computers. In this study, we analyzed computer science curriculum in the United Kingdom, the United States, India, and Estonia. In order to teach 1st - 9th grade students computer programming, we suggested the learning objectives, instructional design, and evaluation methods in software developing education focusing on Information Science. The objectives were divided into four phases, which were determined by age and grade level. Then, we determined 2-3 outcomes for each phase.

  • The purpose of this study is to acquire teaching insights for improving scientific literacy by analyzing the effects of scientific communication skills, science process skills, and logical thinking skills of elementary school students on academic achievement level. The participants are 64, sixth grade elementary school students. Survey materials include the results of Scientific Communication Skill Test (SCST), Test of Science Process Skills (TSPS), Group Assessment of Logical Thinking (GALT), multiple choice test & short answer test, descriptive answer test on science, and academic achievement level test on all subjects. Based on these data, the study analyzed the relationships of science process skills, logical thinking skills, and scientific communication skills, and each category's effect on academic achievement level. Furthermore, under the assumption that scientific communication skills are affected by science process skills and logical thinking skills and directly influence the academic level, the research discovered three types of correlations as a structural model. The results show that there are considerable correlations in scientific communication skills, science process skills, and logical thinking skills. Also, these three abilities have meaningful correlations with learner's writing and descriptive question level on science curriculum and overall academic achievement level; the level of correlation differ a bit by subcategory factors. In conclusion, setting the model, science process skills and logical thinking skills influence scientific communication skill, and the skill directly influences the learner's academic level. Further analysis of the results show that scientific communication skill influences the academic achievement level of all subjects the most.

  • Both curriculum and textbooks play an important role in the process of didactical transposition from mathematics as a science to school mathematics. The 2009 revised national curriculum for mathematics introduced the system of grade-band, so its achievement criteria for mathematical contents tend to be addressed more and less generally in the curriculum. We need to investigate whether the achievement criteria were applied meaningfully in elementary textbooks for mathematics. This study aims to recognize the connection between the curriculum and the textbooks and make a suggestion for composing the following curriculum and its textbooks. To do this, we analyzed the mathematics textbooks for 1~2 grades in relation to the mathematical contents as per reconstructed one of curriculum achievement criteria, the mathematical terms and symbols, and the mathematical processes -mathematical problem solving, mathematical reasoning, mathematical communication. Based this analysis, futhermore, this study includes some didactical discussions and implications for development of mathematics textbooks in 3~4 and 5~6 grade-bands.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of secondary school SMART education. In order to achieve this, the paper separated the high school which implements the smart education for the high school and the high school which did not apply the smart education concept, then figuring out the answer about what school is more effective, the influence of the smart education concept on the students' emotions and academic achievement. This paper analyzed the effectiveness of SMART Education between Hansol high school in SeJong city and Jungang high school in Gwachen city by using 'schoolinfo (www.schoolinfor.go.kr) SMART education.' This study first presented the SMART Education's concept and characteristics through reviewing some literature, and then categorized the characteristics by using the items included academic achievement and emotional effect. These items consist of the 'students academic scores' for the academic achievement, 'the number of students dropped out' and 'the damage rate of school violence' for the emotional items. The conclusion of this study is that Hansol high school indicates lower school violence rate than Gwachen high schools with the two school's violence rate decreasing. Moreover, students' score of Hansol high school is higher than high schools in Gwachen city. The SMART education school budget structure is 'Common type', which requires a lot of investment to 'Basic education activities', 'educational activities support', 'School general operating expenses' among education budget items.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the results of physics (optics) in nationwide standardized assessment and to investigate middle-school students' characteristics of achievement by using an option response rate distribution curve. For this purpose, we analyzed the 10 optics problems from the National Assessment of Educational Achievement (NAEA) items for middle school science subject conducted in 2010-2013. The results of this study are as follows; First, students showed a little higher achievement in optics than classical mechanics and electromagnetism. Second, students achieved significantly worse in 'formation of image' in 'light' part and 'variation of phase in propagation of wave' in 'wave' part. Third, students showed a context-dependent problem solving strategy and result. Additionally, we suggested some implications about the readjustment of some optics concepts level of national science curriculum, the need for teaching and learning strategies for basic level students, and the need for teaching and learning strategies focused on the realistic context.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the mediating effect of grit in the relationship between academic achievement satisfaction and Academic Engagement of middle school students. To this end, a survey was conducted on 575 middle school students in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, on academic achievement satisfaction, Academic Engagement, and grit. This research was carried out by hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to understand the correlation analysis and mediating effect between major variables, and The significance of the mediating effect was verified by the Sobel test. As a result of the study, First, correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between academic achievement satisfaction, grit, and Academic Engagement. Second, regression analysis showed that both consistency of interest and perseverance of effort were partially mediated between academic achievement satisfaction and Academic Engagement. This means that academic achievement satisfaction not only directly affects middle school students' Academic Engagement, but also has an indirect effect through grit. Finally, In order to increase the academic enthusiasm of middle school students, learning counseling plans such as education and counseling plans to improve academic interest and develop various learning motivation improvement programs were discussed.

  • A study on comprehension level of mathematical basic knowledge(MBK) of gifted students in middle school. The interest in mathematics gifted education is very high. However, in reality, there has been a shortage of the analysis of students' achievement result since mathematics gifted education began through the institute of gifted education in the education office in 2003. On this study, MBK is subdivided into definition, property and procedure and then examination questions arc developed on the basis of national level achievement standard. With these examination tools, total inspection was conducted in on metropolitan city and the result was analyzed. First, in a basic definition, relatively low achievement result was seen except the basic concept related operation. Second, in a basic property, very low achievement result was seen in the questions of basic property without basic definition and as a whole, the result was similar with the basic definition. Third, in basic procedure, the achievement result was very remarkable. This result shows we need tn increase the comprehension ability of MBK. To do this, the systematic alternative development of the questions of selecting gifted students and the contents of gifted education is required. This study proposes the meaningful implication to the selection question development related to the MBK and the improvement of gifted education contents. And it is expected to provide the positive change for mathematics gifted education.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate differences in the achievement standards from the 2015 to the 2022 revised national science curriculum and to present the implications for science teaching under the revised curriculum. Achievement standards relevant to primary science education were therefore extracted from the national curriculum documents; conceptual domains in the two curricula were analyzed for differences; various kinds of centrality were computed; and the Louvain algorithm was used to identify clusters. These methods revealed that, in the revised compared with the preceding curriculum, the total number of nodes and links had increased, while the number of achievement standards had decreased by 10 percent. In the revised curriculum, keywords relevant to procedural skills and behavior received more emphasis and were connected to collaborative learning and digital literacy. Observation, survey, and explanation remained important, but varied in application across the fields of science. Clustering revealed that the number of categories in each field of science remained mostly unchanged in the revised compared with the previous curriculum, but that each category highlighted different skills or behaviors. Based on those findings, some implications for science instruction in the classroom are discussed.
