This study is a preview of characteristics of (1st/2nd) rubber suspension parts in low temperature, it will be researched before Trans Korean Railway and continental railway network connection. Rubber material characteristics are different to steel materials. Behavior of rubber material shows large deformation in hyper-elastic region. Moreover, added dashpot and low temperature condition shows various non-linear characteristics.

High-speed trains with the maximum speed of 300 km/h have started revenue services since April 2004. A large portion of the 'Kyung-Bu' line is comprised of tunnels or bridges, which may cause excessive noise in a vehicle. The vibration generated by the trains propagates into the structure of the tunnel and the vehicle and it can be radiated as noise inside the vehicle interior. This noise can usually be heard as low frequency structure-borne noise. Measurement of the noise and vibration inside the KTX vehicle confirmed that the noise comprises of frequencies below 250 Hz with a couple of broad peaks.

A light rail transit would be one of effective means to solve a traffic problem of the city. Noise and vibration originated from light railway, however, would be another problem. This study focuses on the method of decreasing noise and vibration for a light railway, and comprises track condition, driving condition, linear condition, vehicle condition and civil engineering structure condition. For decreasing noise and vibration in an track, long rail laying and low vibration track laying would be good methods. The result of this study proves that improving the track wold be the most economical and valid method for decreasing noise and vibration for light railway.

A domestic's freight stock is about 14,000 cars. Most of them is consisted of casting bogie type. Casting bogie type has some problems such as maintenance, part abrasion, running safety etc. Now a day casting bogie type have replaced with welded type bogie for high speed. The maximum speed of the container freight car is 70km/h limit at empty weight condition in case of casting type bogie frame. So there are some difficulty in commercial service for high speed coaches. Then we should re-decide whether the casting bogie type has speed up 90km/h limit at empty weight through out the vibration characteristic.

Recently, as the requirements of several mobile products come to the front, to cope with the market needs, various mobile storage applications have appeared. Therefore, the core components and technologies for mobile optical disc drives have been developed continuously. In case of the optical storage, the small sized optical pickup is necessary to realize the mobile optical disc drive, because the optical pickup height is determined by the optical parts and an actuator. In this paper, we propose the optical pickup actuator using the horizontally arranged magnetic circuit, and apply to 5mm height Small Form-factor Optical Drive.

The small form factor optical data storage devices are developing rapidly nowadays. Since it is designed for portable and compatibility with flash memory, its components such as disk, head, focusing actuator, and spindle motor should be assembled within 5 m thickness. The thickness of focusing actuator is within 2 mm and the total working range is
$+/-100{\mu}m$ , with the resolution of less than$1{\mu}m$ . Since the thickness is limited tightly, it is hard to place the yoke that closes the magnetic circuit and hard to make strong flux density without yoke. Therefore, Halbach array is adopted to increase the magnetic flux of one side without yoke. The proposed Halbach array type focusing actuator has the advantage of thin actuation structure with sacrificing less flux density than conventional magnetic array. The optical head unit is moved on the swing arm type tracking actuator. Focusing coil is attached to swing arm, and Halbach magnet array is positioned at the bottom of deck along the tracking line, and focusing actuator exerts force by the Fleming's left hand rule. The working range and resolution of focusing actuator are analyzed with FEM and experiment. -
There are many researches being in process to develop the information storage devices applying to the portable devices recently. Based on this need, the information storage devices have to be satisfied with the fast access time, the robustness of the system, high data transfer rate and lower media price. The total size of the drive must design to adapt the portable devices such as CF II card or PC II card size. This paper proposes the swing arm type actuator to insert the designed actuator in the drive of the CF II size. Hereafter the research will be going on to be suitable to the physical standard and design the focus magnetic circuit newly. The swing arm type actuator including this circuit is designed to have the dynamic characteristic satisfying the mechanical specification as well as the BD 1x. Finally, the adaptability to the portable devices was demonstrated by the finite element analysis and optimization of structural part.

In an optical disk drive, a feeding system which is used to move the optical pick-up system to the target position and the proper control scheme of it are important in random access performance. Since the effect of control is directly affected by the modeling precision of the real system, the precise modeling to the real system should be acquired. Although a simple linear order modeling to the feeding system of an optical disk drive is useful in understanding of the overall dynamic characteristics, the dynamic characteristics which are belongs to the nonlinear area cannot be predicted correctly. Furthermore, the feeding system of an optical disk drive has many nonlinear characteristics such as a nonlinear friction and backlash. For this reason, the understanding of the nonlinear properties in the feeding system is very important. In this paper, the nonlinear items of the feeding system, friction and backlash, are introduced and the effect of it are investigated. Finally, the mathematical model considering the nonlinear properties is compared to the real system, and some comments of it are given.

In general, compressors for refrigerators are major noise source in home environment. The vibration originated from a pump of a compressor can make noise through suspension springs and a LDT(Line Discharge Tube). Especially for the inverter motor driven compressor, the vibration is more serious than it of the constant speed compressors. Because the operation frequency range of an inverter motor driven compressor is very wide from 1600 rpm to 4200 rpm. In this paper, we propose the numerical model to reduce vibration by designing weight balancers and grommets. Results for analytical investigations on the exciting force and moment at the pump mass center, weight balancers and exciting frequency variation are presented.

Acoustic modes of internal region of 4-hp scroll compressor are identified by measuring transfer functions between a reference and 84 measuring points. The corresponding acoustic mode-shapes and natural frequencies were calculated by analysis software SYSNOISE. There exist two clearly distinguishable dipole modes of vertical and horizontal direction and a single quadrupole mode in the frequency region of interest. It shows that the natural frequencies of the identified modes are linearly sensitive to suction pressure (Ps) but relatively in sensitive to discharge pressure (Pd) in operating condition.

Cyclone is widely apoted in the vacuum cleaner, because of it's simple structure, the dust collection efficiency is high and its transparency feaure which can be shown to the customer. At past times, cyclone performance is represented by collection efficiency, flow rate, pressure drop etc. At recent times the noise problem is getting important as cyclone comes into home-appliances. In this paper, cyclone's pressure drop and noise is measured at the variation of the cyclone structure and the main sources of cyclone peak noise is found by experiments and numerical analysis. In addition, the structure for peak noise reduction is suggested and it is beneficial both pressure drop and noise reduction.

In the case of the front door of the apartment, which functions as an entrance, the study about noise has been less active than corridor type plane in the past, since stair room type plane was generalized. Hence, this study shows the survey about residents' thoughts of noise transmission through the front door, and after researching sound insulation of the present apartments, we figured out what the problem is. Moreover, we did an efficiency test as developing the front door, which increases sound insulation. As a result, it turned out that residents think that the noise transmission through the front door is as serious as floor impact noise, and also, the efficiency of the front door is as poor as STC 22-30. Therefore, in the developed front door, we should improve the efficiency to the level of STCSS. It will be a good way preparing for a demand of residents.

The Characteristics of noise and vibration by heavy-weight floor impact sound was studied. Resonance frequency increased a little in structures that use damping material in living room and bedroom, and acceleration waves length that respond became short, and displayed aspect that oscillation level decreases. Result that measure sound pressure level, structure that compare and applies damping materials with structure that apply the resilient materials from 63Hz lower part that impact energy is concentrated in energy spectrum of heavy-weight floor impact sound displayed result that sound pressure, level decreases remarkably. Therefore, according to use of damping materials, confirmed reduction effect of heavy-weight floor impact sound.

In this study, examined heavy-weight floor impact sound to structure that have slab thickness of 4 form at a standard laboratory through noise and vibration measured. The results show that the nature Natural frequency increased according to change of thickness of each slab by finite element analysis, and acceleration value decreased. Results of measurements of noise and vibration at a standard laboratory, the slab 210, 240mm structures was construed result such as finite element analysis but the slab 150, 180mm structures is construed that influence in vibration acceleration level because edge condition has condition that contact to ground. Therefore, in modelling process for analysis, is thought that need that condition analyzes examining element influencing about structure that contact to ground.

This paper presents a theoretical and experimental study of a non-collocated pair of piezopolymer PVDF sensor and piezoceramic PZT actuator, which are bonded on a cantilever beam, in order to suppress unwanted vibration at the tip of the beam. The PZT actuator patch was bonded near the clamped part and the PVDF sensor, which was triangularly shaped, was bonded on the other part of the beam. This is because the triangular PVDF sensor is known that it can detect the tip velocity of a cantilever beam. Because the arrangement of the sensor and actuator pair is not collocated and overlapped each other, the pair can avoid so called 'the in-plane coupling'. The test beam is made of aluminum with the dimension of
$200\times20\times2mm$ , and the two PZT5H actuators are both$20\times20\times1mm$ and bonded on the beam out-of-phase, and the PVDF sensor is$178mm\times6mm\times52{\mu}m$ . Before control, the sensor-actuator frequency response function is confirmed to have a nice phase response without accumulation in a reasonable frequency range of up to 5000 Hz. Both the DVFB and displacement feedback strategies made the error signal from the tip velocity (or displacement) sensor is transmitted to a power amplifier to operate the PZT actuator (secondary source). Both the control methods attenuate the magnitude of the first two resonances in the error spectrum of about 6-7 dB. -
This paper concerns the active aeroelastic control of flapped wing systems exposed to blast and/or the sonic boom in an incompressible flow field. This is achieved via implementation of a robust estimation capability (sliding mode observer: SMO), and of the use of the deflected flap as to suppress the flutter instability or enhance the subcritical aeroelastic response to blast loads. To this end, a control methodology using LQG(Linear Quadratic Gaussian) in conjunction with SMO is implemented, and its performance toward suppressing flutter and reducing the vibrational level in the subcritical flight speed range is demonstrated. Moreover, its performances are compared to the ones provided via implementation of conventional LQG with Kalman filter.

In this paper, we address an active vibration control system, which suppresses the vibration engaged by magnetically levitated stage. The stage system consists of a levitating platen with four permanent magnetic linear synchronous motors in parallel. Each motor generates vertical force fer suspension against gravity and propulsion force horizontally as well. This stage can generate six degrees of freedom motion via the vertical and horizontal forces. In the stage system, which represents the settling-time critical system. the motion of the platen vibrates mechanically. We designed an active vibration control system for suppressing vibration due to the stage moving. The command feedforward with inertial feedback algorithm is used fer solving stage system's critical problems. The components of the active vibration control system are accelerometers for detecting stage table's vibrations, a digital controller with high precise signal converters, and electromagnetic actuators.

AFM(Atomic Force Microscope) becomes a versatile tool in the nanoscale measurements and processes. Especially the tapping mode is a very useful mode in AFM operation to measure and process at the nanoscale. Although the tapping mode has a great potential for the novel techniques such as phase imaging, however, it is not clearly known the fundamental mechanics affected by complex tip-sample interactions. This paper shows the various nonlinear dynamic features in tapping mode AFM microcantilevers including hysteretic jumps and period doublings of the microcantilevers. Also it is discussed the complex dynamics of CNT(Carbon Nanotube) probes and the opportunities on the nanoscale nonlinear dynamics.

This paper is the result of a experimental study about non-linear one to one modal coupling of a flexible circular cantilever beam which was transversely excited with harmonic excitation. It was proved that 2 order jumping in out of plane was caused by jump phenomenon in in-plane of flexible circular cantilever beam, because of non-linear coupling. In addition, cantilever beam showed hardening spring characteristics in in-plane and softening spring characteristics in out-of-plane.

The correlation dimension of a nonlinear method for the diagnosis on the clearance of rotating machinery is introduced in this paper. The correlation dimension can provide some intrinsic information of an underlying dynamic system by reconstructing measured scalar time series. Vibration signals measured from a rotor with different operating conditions are analyzed using the correlation dimension. The results show that the correlation dimension method can identify the magnitude of the clearance of a rotor and the lubricating condition.

Global bifurcations and chaos in modal interactions of an imperfect circular plate with one-to-one internal resonance are investigated. The case of primary resonance, in which an excitation frequency is near natural frequencies, is considered. The damping force is not included in the analysis. The Melnikov's method for heteroclinic orbits of the autonomous system was used to obtain the criteria for chaotic motion.

Until now, product mostly has revealed physical quantities created by the standpoint of engineers. Consumers, however, perceive and evaluate products on the non-physical characteristics, such as feelings, emotions, and experiences in different social and cultural situations. Especially, for the household appliances such as a refrigerator, the sound is heavily related to the satisfaction of a customer who is a real user of the product and is very important factor to decide purchasing as well as visual design. Therefore, in this research, not only the simple sound pressure level but also the consumer's sense of hearing evaluate the noise from the refrigerator. And also, in order to improve the quality of sound through the design change, the consumer's evaluation is analyzed and related to the engineering quantities.

The design sensitivity analysis of Zwicker's loudness with respect to structural sizing design variables is developed. The loudness sensitivity in the critical band is composed of two equations, the derivative of main specific loudness with respect to 1/3-oct band level and global acoustic design sensitivities. The main specific loudness is calculated by using FEM, BEM tools. i.e. MSC/NASTRAN and SYSNOISE. And global acoustic sensitivity is calculated by combining acoustic and structural sensitivity using the chain rule. Structural sensitivity is obtained by using semi-analytical method and acoustic sensitivity is implemented numerically using the boundary element method. For sensitivity calculation, sensitivity analyzer of loudness (SOLO), in-house program is developed. A 1/4 scale car cavity model is optimized to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, it was analyzed the characteristics of electrical and acoustical variations for loudspeaker due to fabrication processes. First, mass of each components of loudspeaker was measured by electric precision scale and performed statistical analysis. Second. Thiele-Small parameters of sample loudspeakers produced by unskilled students were identified by known mass parameter identification method using electrical impedance method and investigated on the variations of each parameter. Electrical impedance tests and acoustic frequency responses were measured on sample loudspeakers and variations were examined to grasp relationship between components variation and fabrication processes. Main factors to effect the changes of electrical impedance were concluded by fabrication processes errors not by components of loudspeaker.

In these days, the people living in the urban is suffer from the environmental noise because the number of car increase in the city, and a lot of new industrial complex is made in the urban every. But there is no suitable system for measurement and management of environmental noise. Therefore, in this research, a new system for the measurement, characteristic analysis and evaluation, management of environmental noise using Internet communication is developed. The system includes the environmental noise measurement equipment and the controller for the noise measurement, analysis and evaluation, management.

In this paper, computational analysis and experiments of subwoofer for car audio speaker system were performed and discussed to analyze acoustical phenomena for subwoofer. Ported enclosure system with subwoofer were manufactured and provided for test and simulation purposes. Subwoofer with single voice coil and double voice coil were identified by linear and nonlinear parameter identification method for loudspeaker parameters. For high power inputs to subwoofer, sound pressure levels were compared according to input powers with linear and nonlinear loudspeaker models. For subwoofer system with high power nonlinear speaker model was showed to be adequate to describe the behaviour of loudspeaker.

A single degree of freedom system and transmissibility are key concepts in many problems of vibration isolation. In order to apply this approach, however, several assumptions must be satisfied, which are often not realistic. In this paper, an approach using vibration power flow is introduced to deal with vibration isolations in a more practical way. Procedures of this approach and some results of research are presented. Difficulties in this method are also discussed.

This paper presents phenomena of vibration and noise due to acoustic resonance in tube bank of a large fossil power plant. The phenomena of acoustic resonance may arise when the vortex shedding frequency coincides with the acoustic natural frequency. In this system dominant frequency of vibration and noise was 37.5Hz. The
$3^{rd}$ acoustic natural frequency calculated was 37.2 Hz. When the difference of vortex shedding frequency and acoustic natural frequency is within${\pm}20%$ , acoustic resonance could occur. If system is the state of acoustic resonance, vibration and noise become large. In order to prevent acoustic resonance, anti-noise baffle should be installed in the tube bank. In the case of installing baffle, we should consider the number of baffle and the effect of acoustic mode due to baffle extension length. To do this, we did acoustic mode analysis. After installing anti-noise baffle, acoustic resonance was disappeared and vibration magnitude and noise level was reduced dramatically. -
TFT LCD 생산 공정에 사용되는 정밀측정/검사/생산장비가 위치하는 바닥의 진동문제는 크게 장비자체의 가동에 의한 것과 장비외부의 가진원에 의해서 정밀장비의 바닥에 진동이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 진동문제는 건물을 설계 시공하는 건축자의 입장에서는 장비 가동전 건물 인수시 진동문제에 관심이 있으나 장비를 운영하는 사용자의 입장에서는 장비 가동전의 진동문제와 더불어 장비 가동시 장비내부의 진동원에 대해서도 진동대책을 요구하게 된다. 따라서 양자의 진동문제 해결을 위해서는 정밀장비 주변의 진동원에 대한 동하중 설계자료와 함께 장비 가동시 바닥에 진동을 발생시키는 진동원인 장비에 대해서 동하중을 파악하여야 한다. 장비기초의 단위하중에 대한 진동응답을 표현하는 주파수 전달함수는 이러한 동하중과 바닥의 진동허용규제치를 동시에 표현하는 요소로 기존의 정밀장비가 요구하는 장비바닥의 진동허용규제치와 함께 동하중을 유발하는 장비기초에서는 반드시 구조물의 동강성 허용규제치를 이용한 구조물의 동적설계가 요구된다.

The purpose of this study is to develop an air spring mount that has high damping characteristic. The new type air spring mount has a polyurethane core in the center. By adding the core, the air spring mount shows excellent damping effect and good resistance to lateral force. This study includes both the analytical study and the experimental study of the new type air spring mount.

In order to keep the market competitiveness, it is desirable for automotive manufacturer to meet the customer's various aspects of requirements. The overall NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance has been an important measure when evaluating overall vehicle performance, product quality, and enhancing customers' loyalty to the product. The noise and vibration, while the engine is idling, has been brought particular attention to the drivers and passengers, because they encounter the operation conditions quite frequently without other masking noise sources: wind noise, road noise, and even powertrain radiated noise at higher speed driving. The specific noise, defined as 'CHIT' noise, has been identified as a potential customer issue, from the Pickup Truck with newly developed V8 powertrain. This paper describes the definition of the noise, identifying the potential sources, and noise radiation mechanisms, based on series of powertrain and vehicle test and verification processes. Then, based on the root-cause identified, the design change has been proposed and validated with several vehicles in order to have a complete satisfaction of the customer.

In this paper, a simplified model is studied to predict analytically the radiated noise from the helical gear system due to an axial excitation of helical gear. The simplified model describes gear, shaft, bearing, and housing. To obtain the axial force of helical gear, mesh stiffness is calculated in the load deflection relation. The axial force is obtained from the solution of the equation of motion, using the mesh stiffness. It is used as a longitudinal excitation of the shaft, which in turn drives the gear housing through the bearing. In this study, the shaft is modeled as a rod, while the bearing is modeled as a parallel spring and damper only supporting longitudinal forces. The gear housing is modeled as a clamped circular plate with viscous damping. For the modeling of this system, transfer function from the shaft to the clamped plate are used, using a spectral method with four pole parameters. Out-of-plane displacement for the thin circular plate with viscous damping is derived and sound pressure radiated from the plate is also derived. Using the model, parameter studies are carried out.

Recently, the various performances of vehicle are rapidly improved. Therefore tire noise is recognized as important noise source because vehicle noise is considerably reduced. This study is performed for the control of the cavity resonance noise that is structure-borne noise, due to fluid(air)-structure interaction. For this investigation, FRF analysis has been carried out using FEM and we found an important factor affecting cavity resonance. The effect of this factor is confirmed by objective noise test. We confirmed that the result of FRF analysis and objective noise test is that the structure control of tire sidewall can reduce cavity resonance noise due to fluid-structure interaction

This research is about SDM (Structural Dynamics Modification) technique using embosses. SDM using embosses do not need to add additional mass element ana model of embosses and resulting huge calculation for getting analytical solution of an embossed structure. The object of this research is to suggest a method to guide placing embossment in a structure to raise its natural frequencies. Two methods to optimize model with embossing are suggested, indepuldently. The former is response surface analysis by neural network. And the latter is an indirect method using modal dynamic strain energy.

Vibration analysis of pipe with Elbow subject to internal pressure and temperature is studied through a commercial finite element analysis tool. The natural frequency of Elbow increased very slightly as internal pressure increases. Meanwhile, the frequency of Elbow decreased as temperature increases. It is shown that frequency deviation caused by temperature was greater than that caused by pressure. As the length of Elbows increases, frequency deviation by temperature stew rapidly, but frequency deviation by pressure was not so high. It is concluded that more concern needs to be focused on temperature rather than on pressure in terms of natural frequency.

Technological advance in information technology has sparked the necessity of small form factor (SFF) optical disk for mobile devices. Small form factor optical disk is highly anticipated to be a next generation storage device because it can be used for a cost-effective way compared with solid state memory. For the application to the 5 mm height small-form-factor optical disk drive, we have presented an optical flying head and swing arm actuator. In this study, we propose a small 1-axis actuator for compensating ficus error and SA due to the variation of cover-layer thickness in the cover-layered small optical disk. The main design issues of the 1-axis actuator are the realization of compact structure and the new support structure of the actuator: Finally, the compensating principle and performance of the 1-axis actuator will be explained.

In this paper, the dual stage interaction between the coarse actuator and the fine actuator of an optical disk drive and the control method to enhance the track pull-in performance are discussed. First, the interaction analyses for the dual stage, and the experiments to find the each actuator dynamics are studied. From the experiments results, some physical parameters was derived, then, some simulations are performed to find the residual vibration effect of the fine actuator during seek motion. Second, the fine actuator control method to reduce the relative velocity, which is a key factor in track pull-in performance, between the target track and beam spot is proposed. From simulations, we show that fine actuator control which has same frequency and same phase of the disturbance is effective to reduce the relative velocity, hence, the control method is good approach in the track pull-in enhancement. Finally, the some comments are discussed briefly.

In this study was proposed a transient response analysis technique of a rotor system, applying the generalized FE modeling method of a rotor-bearing system considering a base-transferred shock force and together the state-space Newmark method of direct time integration scheme based on the average velocity concept. Experiments were performed to a test rig of a mock-up rotor-bearing system with series of half-sine shock waves imposed by an electromagnetic shaker, and quantitative error analyses between analytical and experimental results were carried out. The transient reponses of the rotor were sensitive to duration times and shape-qualities of the shock waves, and overally the analytical results agreed quite well with the experimental ones. Particularly, in cases that the frequencies,
$1/(2{\times}duration\;time)$ , of the shock waves were close to the critical speed of the rotor-bearing system, resonances occurred and the transient responses of the rotor were amplified. -
The vibrational behavior of a front load washing machine is heavily influenced by the floor stiffness on which the washing machine is installed. In case the floor stiffness is extremely low like a wooden floor (we call it a 'soft floor, S/F'), it is quite probable that a washer's rigid body mode exists in the operating frequency range. In this case, the outer frame vibration level would be very high, but the mitigation scheme is quite limited except the excitation force abatement by acquisition of the optimal inertia in the internal vibratory system and the diaphragm's stiffness with the minimum force transfer.

Acoustical noise at low frequency range (below 500Hz) of refrigerator result from fans which are inside of the refrigerator. In generally to evaluate and apply to refrigerator it is recommended that acoustical noise and fluidic performance of the fan were measured simultaneously. To do that twin-room type anechoic wind tunnel was needed. But constructing twin room type anechoic wind tunnel was very expensive and estimation of small refrigerator fan performance was not easy. So in this paper we composed anechoic fan tester. A successful noise and performance measurement was performed using the anechoic fan tester. Existing 22 kinds of refrigerator fan were investigated and mapped into one database. Refrigerator duct pressure resistance were measured and reflected into the fan database to find out appropriate fan. Through the application of fan database, the refrigerator became less noise compared to current one and these data shows what is the best way to reduce fan noise.

This study aims to evaluate factors of ceiling structure influencing to the floor impact sound. For this reasons, we measured the vibration of ceiling and the floor impact sound by ceiling structure. The main results from this study are that ceiling structure makes worse to non-ceiling structure for an effect of air layer in heavy-weight floor impact sound. But it has an effect on light-weight floor impact sound about
$2\sim8dB$ . -
Impact sounds, such as those created by footsteps, the dropping of an object or the moving of furniture, can be a source of great annoyance in residential buildings. The character and level of impact noise generated depends on the object striking the floor, on the basic structure of the floor, and on the floor covering. This study base on the evaluate of isolation performance of impact sound according to the installation of ceiling and wall. In this test, we measured the reduction of impact sound in the case of inserting absorption materials, increasing of the thickness of air layer and using anti-vibration rubber in ceiling, install of absorption materials in wall. The results of this study show that treatment of ceiling and wall have some reduction of the light weight impact sound and heavy weight impact sound.

Impact sounds, such as those created by footsteps, the dropping of an object or the moving of furniture, can be a source of great annoyance in residential buildings. Running and jumping impact sound by child are one of the most irritating noises in an apartment buildings. It's necessary to know that the impact force characteristics of real impact source in an apartment buildings. This study aims to investigate the impact force characteristics and impact force time of running and jumping by child. This study cud out investigation through the 155 children in school. The results of this study is that jumping impact force is greater than running impact force but impact force time is lower than that.

The aims of this study were to Investigate the floor impact noise isolation performance of floating floor with isolation materials and propose the improvement direction of floor impact noise measurement method and evaluation classes using impact ball. Reduction of light-weight impact sound pressure level can be achieved by the finishing materials, such as vinyl finishing material and wooden flooring with isolation materials. Floor impact noise Isolation material which satisfy the properties of the floor impact noise isolation materials cause resonance in the low frequency band and worsen heavy-weight impact sound pressure level. Heavy-weight impact sound level can be reduced by using noise reduction flooring, ceiling and increase of slab thickness. Strong impact force in low frequency bang below 63Hz of bang machine is not similar to human impact source and causes some problem in evaluating heavy-weight impact noise but heavy-weight impact noise measurement and evolution using impact ball which is very similar to human impact is more reliable than bang machine. Correction value on the background noise and sensitivity of residents should be considered on the floor impact noise evaluation classes.

Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is attractive for EAP actuator due to its merit in terms of light weight, dry condition, large displacement output, low actuation voltage and low power consumption. The EAPap is based on cellulose paper, and is shown to involve primarily transport of ions in response to an external electric field. This actuating mechanism is similar to conductive polymer based actuators. For performance improvement of EAPap, hybrid actuators are tried. The actuators based on cellulose paper attached conducting polypyrrole, polyaniline and single wall carbon nanotube/polyaniline(emeraldine base) have been achieved by Electro chemical deposition and mechanical deposition of the polymers onto cellulose paper.

In this paper, A new type of piezoelectric step motor using piezoelectric torsional actuator and a pair of one-way clutch bearing is designed, manufactured and tested. The torsional actuator consists of 16-polygonal tube that can produce angular displacement using shear mode of piezoceramic. One-way clutch bearing convert oscillation of torsional actuator into continuous rotation. After performance testing of torsional actuator, the optimum condition for driving motor is investigated in terms of wave shape, excitation frequency and electrical field. The performance of the motor is experimentally evaluated. As a result, square wave has larger rotation speed than sin wave, and the maximum rotation speed of 57 rpm is measured at 3850 Hz and 100V/mm.

This work presents a 3-axis active mount featuring the piezoelectric stack actuators. The inertia configuration for the piezoelectric actuators is adopted to achieve appropriate force and moment in each axis. In addition, the rubber mount is integrated to provide stiffness for system loading. In order to analyze the active mount, the governing equation for the force and moment is derived and its validity is demonstrated by comparing generated force and moment of each actuator between analysis and experiment. In addition, the natural frequency of each actuator is identified though both simulation and experiment.

A structure using the two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) returns to its initial shape by increasing or decreasing temperature under initial residual stress. Through the thermo-mechanical constitutive equation of shape memory alloy(SMA) proposed by Lagoudas et al., we simulate the behavior of a double actuator in which two SMA wires are attached to the tip of panel under the initially given residual stress. Through the numerical results conducted in the present study, the proposed actuator device is suitable for repeated actuation. The simulation algorithm proposed in the present study can be applied extensively to the analysis of the assembled .system of SMA-actuator and host structure in the practical applications.

There are many position fixing systems in the world from ancient times. But the principles are to compare the position to want to know with the known position already. The position finding system which is not restricted by weather condition and/or electronic apparatus has been sought. The best system is the GPS as far. But the system has the fatal faults as follows; 1. to depend on satellite's accuracy, 2. not to use underwater. This paper is to investigate theoretically position fixing and north finding by using free gyroscope. This paper introduce a position fixing and north finding method by measuring inclination of 2 free gyroscopes. And this system does not depend on the weather condition and underwater condition. What is more, it could use on the planets, if the gravity exits.

본 논문에서는 주기 비안정 연속계의 해석을 위한 주파수 방법이 제안된다. 비안정시스템의 안정화를 위한 기존의 주파수 해석법을 일부 수정하여 연속계를 포함한 비안정 시스템에 적합하도록 수정하였으며, 직류모터와 동기발전기로 구성되어 있는 전기-기계 시스템에 적용하여 유용성을 보였다. 복잡한 비안정 연속계의 문제를 각 요소별 주파수 응답을 분리하고 조합하는 작업들을 통하여 쉽게 풀 수 있음을 보였다. 모터-발전기로 구성되어있는 전기-기계 시스템에서 발전기의 상호유도인덕턴스의 시간에 따른 주기적 변화와 장선(long electrical line)의 부하가 시스템의 불안정성을 야기함을 보였다.

This paper is concerned with the application of perturbation method to the dynamic analysis of free-free beam. In general, the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are analyzed separately. However, the rigid-body motions cause vibrations and elastic vibrations also affect rigid-body motions in turn, which indicates that the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are coupled in nature. The resulting equations of motion are hybrid and nonlinear. We can discretize the equations of motion by means of admissible functions but still we have to cope with nonlinear equations. In this paper, we propose the use of .perturbation method to the coupled equations of motion. The resulting equations consist of zero-order equations of motion which depict the rigid-body motions and first-order equations of motion which depict the perturbed rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations. Numerical results show the efficacy of the proposed method.

The paper presents the numerical and experimental results for the dynamic response vibration of a cantilevered beam subjected to a moving mass with variable speeds. Governing equations of motion under a moving mass were derived by Galerkin's mode summation method taking into account the effects of all forces due to moving mass, and the numerical results were calculated by Runge-Kutta integration method. The effects of the speed, acceleration and the magnitude of the moving mass on the response of the beam are fully investigated. In order to verify numerical results, some experiments were conducted, and the numerical results have a little difference with the experimental ones.

For the location estimation in the conventional LPMS(Loose Parts Monitoring System), it is popular to employ a group delay among the acoustic sensors installed within a 3 ft range from the impact source. However, there exists inherent error in determining the arrival time differences of the generated wave group among the neighboring sensors. To overcome this problem in this study, the two dimensional approach has been proposed and applied to effectively estimate the arrival time differences by using a continuous wavelet transform which is one of the linear time-frequency analysis methods. The experiment has been performed to both the plate model and the real steam generator in a nuclear power plant. It is expected that the reliability of the location estimation could be enhanced when the proposed time-frequency method is introduced into the LPMS system.

In this paper, It was describe the processes of development of HiFi speaker system. Woofer and tweeter were fabricated by unskilled students and their 1.5 parameters were identified by known mass method. Based on T-S parameters port enclosure was designed and built by means of software. Acoustic radiation phenomena of port enclosure were simulated and compared to test result. Acoustic pressure difference between lower frequency and higher frequency was flattened by adopting optimal crossover network. Finally, built HiFi speaker system was showed good sound quality and sound pressure and electrical impedance was well agreed with test results each other.

In these days, gear whine noise of the axle and transmission is getting more important for reduction of vehicle noise, because major noise of vehicle was reduced. Therefore, in this paper, axle noise and vibration is measured, and then the modal analysis and running modal analysis is applied for reduction of axle gear whine noise.

Leak noise is a good source to identify the exact location of a leak point of underground water pipelines. Water leak generates broadband noise from a leak location and can be propagated to both directions of water pipes. This sound propagation due to leak in water pipelines is not a non-dispersive wave any more because of the surrounding pipes and soil. However, the necessity of long-range detection of this leak location makes to identify low-frequency acoustic waves rather than high frequency ones. Acoustic wave propagation coupled with surrounding boundaries including cast iron pipes is theoretically analyzed and the wave velocity was confirmed with experiment. The leak locations were identified both by the acoustic emission (AE) method and the cross-correlation method. In a short-range distance, both the AE method and cross-correlation method are effective to detect leak position. However, the detection for a long-range distance required a lower frequency range accelerometers only because higher frequency waves were attenuated very quickly with the increase of propagation paths. Two algorithms for the cross-correlation function were suggested, and a long-range detection has been achieved at real underground water pipelines longer than loom.

This paper presents performance of the impact hammer drill with coefficient of restitution, lubrication and friction, pressure leakage, damper efficiency and the general quality test. The novel measurement systems are introduced in order to get the reasonable data. The mechanism of strikers with inner pressure is revealed in the general quality test. Due to these factors we are able to make the computational analysis correctly.

Stabilizing systems with Gyroscope are extensively used in various tracking devices for attaining the system's objective. Because of putting performance first in importance of system and focusing on specification of parts, designers are sometimes passing over the dynamic characteristics of system in vibrating condition. In this paper, we were dealing with unstable stabilizing control due to coincidence of stabilization platform natural frequency and that of Gyroscope used for sensing rate. For solving this problem, statics and dynamic test of silicon rubber with 3 different hardness were performed and similar stabilizing system was adopted to prove reasonability of rubber choice and static pre-strain.

This paper presents results of test for combustion vibration in the pilot furnace for fossil power plant under combustion test. We measured static pressure variation in the pilot furnace together with air and fuel flow. From test results, it shows that vibration magnitude is affected by air and fuel flow. Also, a finite element analysis using a commercial S/W is performed to calculate acoustic mode of the pilot furnace. These results show that dominant frequency occurred is related to acoustic natural frequency of furnace. After this, it needs to be studied the relation between dominant frequency of combustion vibration and air flow rate.

In this paper it is to establish a comprehensive model for predicting damping in sandwich Laminated composites on the basis of strain energy method. In this model, the effect of transverse shear on the material damping has been considered with in-plane stresses. Results showed that the viscoelastic core thickness in the sandwich beam and the Length of a beam have a high impact on the material damping. The transverse shear appears to be highly influenced by the damping behavior in
$0^0$ laminated sandwiched composites. However, it is Little influenced by that in$90^0$ laminated sandwiched composites. -
A study on optimal placement of constrained layer damping treatment for vibration control of automotive panels is presented. The effectiveness of damping treatment depends upon design parameters such as choice of damping materials, locations and size of the treatment. This paper proposes a CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) methodology based on finite element analysis to optimize damping treatment. From the equivalent modeling technique, it is found that the best damping performance occurs as the viscoelstic patch is placed by means of the modal strain energy method of bare structural panels to identify flexible regions, which in turn facilitates optimizations of damping treatment with respect to location and size. Different configurations of partially applied damping layer treatment have been analyzed for their effectiveness in realizing maximum system damping with minimum mass of the applied damping material. Moreover, simulated frequency response function of the automotive roof with and without damping treatments are compared, which show the benefits of applying damping treatment. Finally, the optimized damping treatment configuration is validated by comparing the locations and the size of the treatment with that of an experimental modal test conducted on roof compartment.

In this paper, a sensitivity analysis technique is presented for performing effective structural optimization of bus system. Design sensitivities are analyzed on natural frequency of bus substructures using super-element. Vibration modes of substructure, which large affect on the global vibration mode of bus B.I.W., are found through the sensitivity analysis using the chain rule. And design variables, which are determined from the sensitivity analysis, are changed through optimum design.

This paper describes the development process of high stiffness body for ride and handling performance. High stiffness and light weight vehicle is a major target in the refinement of passenger cars to meet customers' contradictable requirements between ride and handling performance and fuel economy. This paper describes the analysis approach process for high stiffness body through the data level of body stiffness. According to the frequency band, we can suggest the design guideline about Is cornering static stiffness, torsional and lateral stiffness, body attachment stiffness. The ride and handling characteristic of a vehicle is significantly affected by vibration transferred to the body through the chassis mounting points from front and rear suspension. It is known that body attachment stiffness is an important factor of ride and handling performance improvement. And high stiffness helps to improve the flexibility of bushing rate tuning between Handling and road noise. It makes it possible to design the good handling performance vehicle at initial design stage and save vehicles to be used in tests by using mother car at initial design stage. These improvements can lead to shortening the time needed to develop better vehicles.

This paper describes a MATLAB based SDM software embodied in a GUI environment (SDMTool), which is a technical high-end tool for structural dynamics modification (SDM) problems. The software is composed of four modules: 1) FE model linker module; 2) FE model updating module; 3) SDM forward problem module; 4) SDM structural optimization module. The software can be useful to engineers performing researches on structural dynamics modification and FE model updating.

This study aims to measure an apparent mass of a seated human body at the sitting posture in a passenger car in the frequency range from 1 to 20 Hz and to investigate the dynamic characteristics. Thirty subjects joined the test where eight levels of acceleration from
$0.1m/s^2\;to\;2.0m/s^2$ were used to excite seated human body. Most of apparent mass curves showed two peaks in the frequency range of$4\sim9Hz$ , first peak was clearer at the contact point of the seat and the hip, and the second one at the contact point of the backrest and the back. Both peak frequencies were found to move down to lower frequencies with increase of acceleration magnitude. Shapes of apparent mass curves were clearly different from those at erect posture especially in the frequency range around and above the second peak. -
Seismic Isolation and Shock/vibration Control Laboratory has performed the National Research Laboratory(NRL) project, 'Design and Application of Control Devices against Earthquake/Shock/Vibration'. In this project, the prototypes of the vibration control devices for structural control against earthquake and wind were developed and verified their performances. And also, the computer programs were developed for the seismic response analysis and the optimum design of the base-isolated structures with vibration control devices. This paper introduces the developed vibration control devices and computer programs.

The control objectives in this paper are to move the gantry of a container crane to its target position and to suppress the transverse vibration of the payload. The crane system is modeled as an axially moving string equation, in which control inputs are applied at both ends, through the gantry and the payload. The dynamics of the moving string are derived using Hamilton's principle for systems with changing mass. The Lyapunov function method is used in deriving a boundary control law, in which the Lyapunov function candidate is introduced from the total mechanical energy of the system. The performance of the proposed control law is compared with other two control algorithms available in the literature. Experimental results are given.

The near-field scanning micro scope (NSOM) technique is in the spotlight as the next generation storage device. Many different types of read/write mechanism for NSOM have been introduced in the literature. In order for a near-field probe to be successfully implemented in the system, a suitable slider and suspension are needed to be properly designed. The optical slider is designed considering near-filed optics and probe array. The suspension generally supports slider performance, and tracking servo capacity in HDD. Moreover, the suspension for optical slider also should meet the optical characteristics, and is also required to satisfy shock performances for the mobility for the actuator. In this study, the optical slider and the suspension fer near-field probe array are designed and analyzed.

착탈식의 플라스틱 디스크와 부상형 광헤드를 사용하는 광드라이브에서 부상형 광헤드의 부상안정성 문제는 고밀도 표면기록의 신뢰성 확보를 위해 매우 중요한 요소로 고려되어야 한다. 플라스틱 디스크와 광헤드의 포커싱 제어를 위해 부상형광헤드의 광학적 조립오차와 플라스틱디스크의 보호층의 오차를 보상해주는 추가적인 엑츄에이터의 몇 가지 설계방안에 대해 검토한다. 또한 본 논문에서는 부상형 광헤드의 부상안정성을 위하여 디스크의 굴곡에 대한 부상특성과 안정성을 해석하고, 특히 로드/언로드 시의 부상안정성에 대해서도 검토해 본다.

In this paper, the design of damped structures associated with the piezoelectric shunt circuits is undertaken and it is applied to optical disk drive (O.D.D) main base in order to reduce unwanted vibration. In order to design effective piezoelectric structure, the admittance of the structure is introduced as the performance index of the piezoelectric shunt system. And the admittance offset of the shunt performance is theoretically investigated. It is also presented that the admittance can be calculated by commercial finite elements program. To verify the admittance calculated by F.E.M, admittance measurement is performed by impedance analyzer. In this verifying process, the validity of the finite element admittance analysis is found. As a practical approach, to reduce the vibration of the O.D.D. main base, piezoelectric shunt system is designed using the proposed admittance analysis and shunt effect is evaluated at all prescribed frequencies.

본 연구에서는 PMN-PT bimorph actuator를 이용하여 초소형 광디스크 드라이브용 광픽업 구동기를 제작하였다. 최근에 휴대용 기기에서의 고용량 정보 저장기기에 대한 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 착탈식이 가능한 수 기가급 초소형 광디스크 드라이브가 개발중에 있다. PMN-PT는 약 1.5kV/cm 이하의 전기장에서는 PZT같은 압전 소자와 마찬가지로 입력 전압에 대한 변형률이 선형성을 나타내는데, 사용된 PMN-PT는 PZT의 약 3배 가까운 압전 상수값을 나타내었다. 보 끝단에 외부 힘이 작용할 때 PMN-PT bimorph 구동기가 낼 수 있는 수직 방향의 힘과 변위에 대해서 일반적인 적층 형태로 이론적인 해석을 수행 하였다. 그리고 이 bimorph로 구동될 Cymbal 형태의 변위 확대 기구의 변위에 대한 이론적인 모델을 제시하고, 이를 이용하여 2개의 bimorph로 2축을 동시에 구동하는 픽업 구동기를 제작하였다. 3개의 제작된 prototype으로 실험을 수행하여 예상 변위량과 잘 일치함을 보였다. 또한, 상용 해석 프로그램인 Matlab과 Ansys를 이용하여 Cymbal 확대 기구의 여러 파라미터에 따른 구동 성능의 민감도를 확인해 보았다.

Recently, the development of mobile devices demands information storage systems to use micro drive devices. 1-inch micro drive hard disk uses the load/unload(L/UL) technology to increase area recording density and reduce power consumption. Because micro drive has light actuator, effects of the flexible cable that is ignored in 3.5-inch hard disk drive is important to load/unload performances. In this paper, effects of flexible cable on load/unload performances are studied.

The paper classified SI schemes for structural engineering applications based on the type of measured data. Only parametric SI algorithms with optimization processes were reviewed where optimal structural parameters are estimated by minimizing an output error between measured and computed responses. Some important issues in applying SI schemes were analyzed with the definition of an analytical model, noise and sparseness in measured data. As a sample study, the application of a nonlinear time-domain SI algorithm for a shear building was examined.

In this work, we propose a new ultrasonic damage inspection method in plate structures. The proposed method employs an OPMT (Orientation-adjustable Patch-type Magnetostrictive Transducer) in order to make the ultrasonic waves focused on the specific target point. For experiments, virtual grid points were set up at every 50 mm in an aluminum plate and two OPMTs were used for inspection. If there exists a crack in a plate, the reflected Lamb wave from the crack is measured in addition to the direct waves from the transmitting transducer to the receiving transducer.

Vibration response of the tower structure of a 750kW wind turbine generator is investigated by measurement and analysis. Acceleration response of the tower under various operation condition is monitored in real time by vibration monitoring system using LabVIEW. Resonance state of the tower structure is diagnosed in the operating speed range. To predict the tower resonance frequency, tower is modeled as an equivalent beam with a lumped mass and Rayleigh energy method is applied. Calculated tower bending frequency is in good agreement with the measured value and the result shows that the simplified model can be used in the design stage of the wind turbine tower.

In this paper, the tension of assembly stay cable connected with massive anchorage block was calculated through back analysis of in-situ frequencies measured from a stadium structure. Direct approach to back analysis is adopted using the univariate method among the direct search methods as an optimization technique. The univariate method can search the optimal tension without regard to the initial ones and has a rapid convergence rate. To verify the reliability of back analysis, Tension formulas proposed by Zui et al. and Shimada were used. Tensions estimated by three methods are compared with the design tension, and are in a reasonable agreement with an error of more or less than 15%. Therefore, it is shown that back analysis applied in this paper is appropriate for estimation of cable tension force.

In the sound insulation measurements, the influence of background (extraneous) noise is often serious problem and how to reduce its effect and to improve the signal-to-noise(S/N) ratio is an important theme. As the background noise, such extraneous noises as road traffic noise and machine noise often disturb the measurement. In laboratory measurements on specimens with high sound insulation performances, even the internal noise of the measurement system can become a problem. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio and to improve the measurement accuracy, various kinds of digital signal processing techniques can be applied. In this paper, four kinds of digital signal processing techniques are applied and their effectiveness is examined through field measurements.

Recently, the interest on the comfortable dwelling environment is increasing and the effort to solve the problem of exterior noise was tried. The propose of this study is to suggest the design of balcony window in apartment and to evaluate the sound insulation of it. So, we designed five types of balcony window which were considered not only sound insulation but ventilation. The sound reduction index of window was evaluated by the measurement in mock-up room. The results showed that case 2 improved about 6dB in the weighted apparent sound reduction index than case 1, and case 3 reduced about 39% in construction cost than case 4.

In this study, evaluation was carried out for reduction method of floor impact noise through field test and the effective methods for heavy impact noise were proposed. As a field test, impact noise reduction materials such as EPP, EEPS, EVA, PE and so on, did not satisfied the recommandation value at the condition of 150mm thickness concrete slab. The evaluation results for those materials by 'inverse A curve' showed
$53\sim55dB$ at heavy impact noise and$53\sim58dB$ at light impact noise. But, two methods proposed by authors were evaluated$47\sim50dB$ at heavy Impact noise and$54\sim58dB$ at light Impact noise on the similar concrete slab thickness. -
This study examines the sound insulation of the light-weight wall using light-weight concrete and offers the basic datum for enhancing it. The sound insulation of the light-weight wall is determinated by the density, installation method, absorption materials, air layers etc. Among the factors, the solution of outlet that is the major cause of reducing sound insulation should be made. If absorption materials are installed in the cavity walls, it enhances to 15dB in 500Hz.

The reduction effect of floor impact noise depends on the various factors such as stiffness and thickness of the concrete slab, finishing If ceiling materials and the composition method. Among the rest it is well known that floating floor system is more effective. Standard floating floor(SFF) type-2 consisted of 50mm lightweight aerated concrete(LAC) and 20mm damping material has been widely used. But LAC construction problem on dry damping material occurred and the reduction effect of floor impact noise has bare minimum qualifications. Thus the aim of this study is to develop 40mm composite damping material(Soundzero Plus) for SFF type-5 which substitute LAC and damping material. 'Soundzero Plus' is satisfied with quality requirement for damping material for SFF. The heat transition rate,
$0.45W/m^2{\cdot}K$ is more effective 55% about than the regulation. The test results of floor impact noise by using 'Soundzero Plus' are showed good improvement about 12dB (tested by tapping machine) and 4dB (tested by bang machine) between before and after. -
The performance of the piezoelectric patches as vibration control elements depends on the shunting electronics which are designed to dissipate vibration energy through a resistive element. In this study, tuning of the shunting circuits is performed based on the wave propagation characteristics. Optimization of the electronic component is performed depending on the dynamic and geometric properties which include boundary conditions and position of the shunted piezoelectric patch relative to the structure. The developed tuning methods showed superior capabilities in minimizing structural vibration and noise radiation compared to other tuning methods. The tuned circuits are relatively insensitive to changes in modal properties and boundary conditions.

The transient analysis of delaminated smart composite laminates is studied using an improved layerwise laminate theory. The theory is capable of capturing interlaminar shear stresses that are critical to delamination. The presence of discrete delamination is modeled through the use of Heaviside unit step functions. Stress free boundary conditions are enforced at all fee surfaces. Continuity in displacement field and transverse shear stresses are enforced at each ply level. In modeling piezoelectric composite plates, a coupled piezoelectric-mechanical formulation is used in the development of the constitutive equations. Numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the effect of nonlinearity in the transient vibration of bimodular behavior caused by the contact impact of delaminated interfaces. Composite plates with delamination, subject to external loads and voltage history from surface bonded sensors, are investigated and the results are compared with corresponding experimental results and plates without delamination.

This paper proposes the modeling scheme of the Miniature Universal Testing Machine (MUTM) composed of 36 thin-beam-type bimorph PZTs and the control algorithm to minimize the residual vibration of the MUTM in the dynamic testing of specimens. In the operation of the MUTM, hysteresis, residual displacement and vibration of it are major issues. From the analysis of the MUTM behaviors, the hysteresis is described by the curving fitting scheme with the function of an input voltage. The dynamic characteristics of the MUTM are identified by the frequency domain modeling technique base on the experimental data. The interest bandwidth is focused on 125-315HZ for effective modeling and control. For the robust vibration control of the MUTM, the sliding mode control and the Kalman filter as observer are proposed. The paper also proposes the best input signal type to operate the MUTM effectively. The feasibility of the proposed modeling scheme and control algorithm are tested and verified experimentally.

On the basis of theoretical studies on the effect of the cylinders attached to semi-infinite screens, the tangential sound power-transport parallel to the surface of the attached cylinder is minimized by means of a secondary sound field, which is generated from a part of the attached cylinder. The numerical study shows the possibility of deflecting the incident sound by minimizing the acoustic surface impedance of the upper sections. The acoustical shadow region was more pronounced in both near- and far-field compared to the passive case with rigid surface, i.e. without active control. For a relatively wide frequency range it was possible to enhance shielding effects only with few secondary sources and error microphones. In this paper effects of some control parameters on the actively controlled sound field near the top edge of noise barriers are studied. Results of numerical study and model measurements are shown and discussed.

The active magnetic bearing (AMB) systems mounted in moving vehicles are exposed to the disturbances due to the base motion, often leading to malfunction or damage as well as inaccurate positioning of the systems. Thus, in the controller design of such AMB systems, robustness to base disturbances becomes an essential requirement. In this study, effective control schemes are proposed for the homo-polar AMB system, which uses permanent magnets for generation of bias magnetic flux, when it is subject to base motion, and its control performance is experimentally evaluated. The base motion of AMB system is modeled as the dynamic disturbances in the gravity and base excitation forces. To effectively compensate for the disturbances, the angle feed-forward controller based on the inverse dynamic model and the acceleration feed-forward controller based on the normalized filtered-X LMS algorithm are proposed. The performance test of the prototype AMB system is carried out, when the system is mounted on rate table. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed controllers for the AMB system is satisfactory in compensating for the disturbances due to the base motion.

A 3-DOF actuator which has new principle and very simple structure is proposed. Its principle seems to be similar to conventional electromagnetic actuators, that is, to utilize the relation of control and bias fluxes produced by coils and permanent magnets, respectively, but the coils and permanent magnets of the proposed actuator are fixed in the stator. Such a structure helps to optimally design the actuator for its use. Some experimental and FEM analysis results show the feasibility of the proposed actuator and some characteristics of system that are useful lot structure design and control.

A dynamic simulation for a high-speed pantograph-overheadline has been performed using mode superposition method to predict contact forces between pantograph and overheadline. We can deal with non-linear dampers of the pantograph and pre-sag of overhead-line for the simulation. But, we can not consider slackness of dropper in the overhead-line. According to the simulation results, the contact forces and displacements are reasonably predicted, compared with other foreign simulation results.

In a link-motion mechanism, numerous links are interconnected and each link executes a constrained motion at a high speed. Due to the complicated constrained motions of the constituent links, dynamic unbalance forces and moments are generated and transmitted to the main frame. Therefore unwanted vibration is produced. This degrades productivity and precise work. Based on constrained multi-body dynamics, the kinematic analysis is carried out to enable design changes to be made. This will provide the fundamental information for significantly reducing dynamic unbalance forces and moments which are transmitted to the main frame. In this work, a link-motion punch press is selected as an example of a link-motion mechanism. To calculate the mass and inertia properties of every link comprising a link-motion punch press, 3-dimensional CAD software is utilized. The main issue in this work is to eliminate the first-order unbalance force and moment in a link-motion punch press. The mass, moment of inertia link length, location of the mass center in each link have a great impact on the degree of dynamic balancing which can be achieved maximally. Achieving good dynamic balancing in a link motion punch press is quite essential fur reliable operation at high speed.

This paper is concerned with the measurement of low-frequency vibrations of structures using the image processing method. To measure the vibrations visually, the measurement system consists of a camera, an image grabber board, and a computer. The specific target installed on the structure is used to calculate the vibration of structure. The captured image is then converted into a pixel-based data and then analyzed numerically. The limitation of the system depends on the image capturing speed and the size of image. In this paper, we discuss the methodology for the vibration measurement using the image processing method. The method enables us to measure the displacement directly without any contact. The resolution of the vibration measurement can be refined but limited to the sub centimeter displacement.

This paper described operation and vibration characteristics of 'Tail-Fan' performance test system. KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed 'Tail-Fan' system as a kind of helicopter anti-torque system(ATS) and designed ATS performance test-rig for Tail-Fan system performance test. Test-rig consists of driving parts, supporting parts and rotating parts. For Tail-Fan system performance tests, firstly, test-rig operation tests were carried out for verification of design specifications. Secondly, natural frequencies of fan blade and test-rig were measured respectively. Lastly, to find the operation rotating speed for performance tests, vibration tests using accelerometers on tail gear box(TGB) were carried out. Through the fanplot and vibration test results, Tail-Fan performance test conditions to avoid a resonance were found and performance tests were well done safely.

Consistency in design, manufacture, installation and performance test of expansion joints is insufficient for guarantee of reliability because they are imported from various foreign countries as America, Japan and Europe. In addition to that, the regulations or codes of expansion joint should be revised and established for levels of vibration and noise generated from riding vehicles especially. Regulation on the noise neighboring traffic roads is established by ministry of environment. Therefore, Field tests on the vibration and the noise at expansion Joints, especially rail-type and finger-type joints which are typical ones in bridge with short or middle span, are performed and performance of expansion joints are analyzed. And so, the results of the investigation will be utilized as basic data for the regulation on the vibration and the noise.

The power flow analysis(PFA) can be effectively used to predict structural vibration in medium-to-high frequency ranges. In this paper, vibration experiment has been performed to observe the analytical characteristics of the power flow analysis of the vibration of a plate. In the experiment, the loss factor of the plate and the input mobility at a source point have been measured. The data for the loss factor has been used as the input data to predict the vibration of the plate with PFA. The frequency response functions have been measured over the surface of the plate. The comparison between the experimental results and the predicted results for the frequency response functions showed that PFA can be an effective tool to predict structural vibration in medium-to-high frequency ranges.

Arches are one of the most important basic structural units as well as the beams, columns and plates. Most complicated structures consist of only these basic units and therefore it is very attractive research subject to analysis both the static and dynamic behavior of such units including the arches. This study deals with the free vibration of arbitrary shaped arches. In order to obtain the exactly arch shape, which surveyed (x, y) of neutral axis of arbitrary shaped arches are compared to various shape of arch: circular, parabolic, sinusoidal, elliptic, spiral and cartenary. The differential equations governing free vibrations of arches are merely adopted in the open literature rather than deriving the equations in this study. The Taylor series method is used as the numerical differential scheme. The Runge-Kutta method and the Regula-Falsi method, respectively, are used to integrate the governing differential equations and to compute the natural frequencies It is expected that results obtained herein can be practically utilized in the fields of vibration control.

It is well known that many real systems have asymmetric mass, damping and stiffness matrices. In this case, the method for calculating eigenpair sensitivity is different from that of symmetric system. To determine the derivatives of the eigenpairs in asymmetric damped case, a modal method was recently developed by Adhikari. When a dynamic system has many degrees of freedom, only a few lower modes are available, and because the higher modes should be truncated to use the modal method, the errors may become significant. In this paper a procedure for determining the sensitivities of the eigenpairs of asymmetric damped system using a few lowest set of modes is proposed. Numerical examples show that proposed method achieves better calculating efficiency and highly accurate results when a few modes are used.

In this paper, a dynamic behavior of spring supported cantilever beam with a crack and a moving mass is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's eauation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. And the crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture. As the depth of the crack is increased the tip displacement of the cantilever beam is increased.

In turbomachinery rotor, there are small differences in the structural and/or geometrical properties of individual blades, which are referred to as blade mistuning. Mistuning effects of the forced response of bladed disks can be extremely large as often reported in many studies. In this paper, the pattern optimization of intentional mistuning for bladed disks considering with damping and coupling effect is the focus of the present investigation. More specifically, the class of intentionally mistuned disks considered here is limited, for cost reasons, to arrangements of two types of blades (A and B, say) and Genetic Algorithm is used to optimize the arrangement of these blades around the disk to reduce the forced response of blade with different damping and coupling stiffness.

The vibration reduction process for the driver comfort of a forklift truck is studied in this study since the related driver comfort is a primary design target in the vehicle design recently. However, the underlying study for a vibration analysis regarding to the driver comfort is still an element stage. Thus, a preceding large work has to be needed to apply the CAE technology for the detail vehicle design, and it prevents the vehicle optimal design. To reduce the proceeding large works, the evaluated process and required data are comply with the accumulated trouble shooting experiences in this study. Since the driver comfort is a human related problem, the human vibration index associated with analysis vibration result is additionally introduced as a driver comfort judgement value.

The T-50/A-50 Golden Eagle was developed for a supersonic trainer and light combat aircraft. At the design stage, vibration control plans were established and applied. For cockpit vibration, crew comfort vibration level was defined by the requirement of MIL-A-8892. It is found that the T-50/A-50 meets the requirement of cockpit vibration from the flight test data analysis. This paper contains the results of cockpit vibration analysis using the flight test data and the results of human vibration analysis lot the pilot inside aircraft. The human vibration level of pilot is increased as dynamic pressure is increased and at the specific high dynamic pressure, the ride comfort indicates 'a little uncomfortable'. Overall analysis results show that the vibration level of T-50/A-50 cockpit is tolerable and not critical for pilot's comfort.

Recently, the demand for the Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading facility (FPSO) which has some economic and technical advantages, has increased in offshore oil production areas. The 36,8000 DWT class FPSO was built in Hyundai Heavy Industries and will be installed in Offshore Angola. She dose not have self-propulsion system, but has additional facilities for oil production and positioning system. Main noise sources are contributing to the cabin noise of the accommodation are classified into three classes such as the machinery in the engine room and the deckhouse, HVAC system, and the topside equipments. In general, the noise regulation for the offshore structure is severer than that of the cargo ship and acceptable noise limit of cabin is specified as 45 dB(A). This paper describes the procedure of noise analysis, the countermeasures of noise control, and the measurement results of the quay trial. In order to minimize the noise levels, careful attention have to be paid by the special committee of experts from the initial design stage to the delivery. Proper countermeasures, considering the characteristics of sources and receiver spaces, were applied from the noise prediction and various experiment results. Finally, this ship was successfully delivered with excellent noise properties. The technology to minimize the noise levels for FPSO has been established throughout the construction of this ship.

In this paper, we introduce noise prediction program of HVAC system to assist low-noisy design of ship's cabin. The developed program calculates sound power levels at HVAC components considering primary and secondary noise generated by fan and duct element, duct element noise attenuation, and duct break-in noise based on the authentic empirical method suggested by NEBB and acoustic power balancing method. Sound pressure level at cabin with or without ceiling system is evaluated by the diffuse-field theory considering diffuser and duct break-out sound powers. Moreover, the program provides intuitive pre- and post-processors using modem GUI functions to help efficient modeling and evaluation of cabin and HVAC component noise. To validate the accuracy and convenience of the program, noise prediction for a HVAC system is demonstrated.

Acoustic holography is applied to automobile aeroacoustic noise. Automobile aeroacoustic noise has low coherence due to multiple independent sources and measurement noise. This paper discusses the reliability of acoustic holography on this low coherence condition. Main subjects are the number and position of reference microphones, which is used for a step-by-step scanning method, and measurement noise. A real automobile experiment verifies the results.

Conventional methods for reducing vibration in engineering designs (i.e. by stiffening or detuning) may be undesirable or inadequate in conditions where size or weight must be minimized or where complex vibration spectra exist. Alloys which combine high damping capacity with good mechanical properties can provide attractive technical and economic solutions to problems involving seismic, shock and vibration isolation. To meet these trends, we have developed a new high damping Fe-17%Mn alloys. Also, the alloy has advantages of good mechanical properties and more economical than any other known damping alloys(1/4 times as cost of non-ferrous damping alloy). Thus, the high damping Fe-17%6Mn alloy can be widely applied to household appliances, automobiles, industrial facilities and power plant components with its excellent damping capacity(SDC, 30%) and mechanical property(T.S 700MPa). It is the purpose of this paper to introduce the characterization of the high damping Fe-17%Mn alloy and the results of retrofit several such applications.

This paper presents a hybrid system combining lead rubber bearings and hydraulic actuators controlled by a
$\mu-synthesis$ method for seismic response control of a cable-stayed bridge. A hybrid system could alleviate some of restrictions and limitations that exist when each system is acting alone because multiple control devices are operating. Therefore, the overall control performance of a hybrid system may be improved compared to each system, however the overall system robustness may be negatively impacted by active device in the hybrid system or active controller may cause instability due to small margins. Therefore, a$\mu-synthesis$ method that guarantees the robust performance is considered to enhance the possibility of real applications of the control system. The performances of the proposed control system are compared with those of passive, active, semiactive control systems and hybrid system controlled by a LQG algorithm. Furthermore, an extensive robust analysis with respect to stiffness and mass matrices perturbation and time delay of actuator is performed. Numerical simulation results show that the performances of the proposed control system are superior to those of passive system and slightly better than those of active and semiactive systems and two hybrid systems show similar control performances. Furthermore, the hybrid system controlled by a f-synthesis method shows the good robustness without loss of control performances. Therefore, the proposed control system could effectively be used to seismically excited cable-stayed bridge which contains many uncertainties. -
In this paper numerical and experimental studies are conducted to examine the wave screening effectiveness of wave barriers. The numerical study is based on a finite element model of a 'sandbox' with Lysmer-Kuhlemeyer-type absorbing boundaries. Using the model, the screening effectiveness of wave barriers is studied for different barrier dimensions and distances between the source/receiver and the wave barrier. The results of the numerical modeling are compared with those of the ultrasonic experiment which is performed on an acrylic block with a drilled rectangular cut. Finally, the problem of ground transmitting vibration from a traveling train is numerically treated as a real-world application and the results are discussed in some detail.

Most of hard disk drives currently employ fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) for their rotor support. Stiffness of the FDB is affected by many design factors such as bearing clearance, fluid viscosity, and rotational speed. For the high rotating speed HDDs stiffness of the rotor is normally high enough to accomodate load disturbances. However small form factor HDDs that are to be operated in low power consumption are often designed with low stiffness rotors. Although the low stiffness rotor clearly benefits low power operation, it could damage the entire motor structure or head disk interface even by a light mechanical load disturbance such as shock or vibration. In addition, since a single channel HDD does not provide gram load equilibrium in axial direction the rotor could be tilted and make a hard contact to stator. A non-symmetric groove pattern could successfully compensate the tilted rotor angle during operation.

A load/unload mechanism is applied to most small form factor hard disk drives. Loading velocity is ones of the most important factors to ensure the reliability of the load/unload operations. Especially, the lower the flying height of the head becomes, the more important the accuracy of the loading velocity control becomes. Because there is no sensor during the load/unload operations, BEMF voltage is used to sense the head velocity. To measure BEMF voltage, a simple circuit is added to the load/unload HDD control system. Overall acceptable results are obtained by using the simple PI controller but the errors from the target velocity occur when the head moves along the ramp and then reaches the disk. Feedforward profile and disturbance observer are used to remove those errors effectively.

This paper presents the feasibility of the piezoelectric shunt damping for vibration suppression of the highly rotating HDD disk-spindle system. A target vibration mode which restricts the recording density increment of the drive is determined by modal analysis of the drive, and a piezoelectric bimorph is designed to suppress the vibration level of the target mode. After deriving the generalized two-dimensional electromechanical coupling coefficient of the shunted spindle-disk system, the damping performance of the system is predicted by simulating the displacement transmissibility on the target mode. After manufacturing the proposed drive, the vibration suppression performance of the proposed methodology is experimentally evaluated in frequency domain.

The media transport systems, such as printers, copiers, facsimile, ATMs, cameras, etc., have been widely used and being developed rapidly. In the development of those systems, the media feeding mechanism is an important key technology for the design and development of the media transport systems. In this paper, a multi-degree of freedom sheet model with dynamic contact conditions is presented to understand the mechanism of sticking and jamming. A sheet is modelled as a cantilever beam and the feeding velocity is assumed to be constant. The relation between the feeding velocity and the coefficient of friction for guaranteeing stable feeding is presented. Simulations are performed for a horizontal linear guide and a oblique linear guide, calculating the contact force and contact states of mass points.

In many machines handling lightweight and flexible media such as magnetic tape drives, xerographic copiers and sewing machines, the media must transit an open space. It is important to predict the static and dynamic behavior of the sheets with a high degree of reliability. The nonlinear theory of the dynamic elastica has often been used to a nonlinear dynamic deflection model. In this paper, the governing equation is derived and simulated by the finite differential method. The parametric cubic curve is applied for defining the guide shape. The dynamic contact conditions suggested by Klarbring is used to predict the direction of the flexible media according to the initial velocity and the friction coefficient. The analysis is also compared to the conventional model, showing that after contacting a
$45^{\circ}$ wall, the directions of flexible media of two models are different. -
Although time-frequency analysis is useful for dispersive wave analysis, conventional methods such as the short-time Fourier transform do not take the dispersion phenomenon into consideration in the tiling of the time-frequency domain. The objective of this paper is to develop an adaptive time-frequency analysis method whose time-frequency tiling is determined with the consideration of signal dispersion characteristics. To achieve the adaptive time-frequency tiling, each of time-frequency atoms is rotated in the time-frequency plane depending on the local wave dispersion. To carry out this adaptive time-frequency transform, dispersion characteristics hidden in a signal are first estimated by an iterative scheme. To examine the effectiveness of the proposed method, the flexural wave signals measured in a plate were analyzed.

In this study, ambient vibration tests are carried out to replace the current bridge integrity assessment using controlled vehicle test, which requires the traffic control and may induce public complains. Ambient vibration tests and output-only modal identification can be very effective approach to evaluate the bridge integrity because the ambient vibration tests can be performed very easily without trafnc control. The bridges in test road of Jungbu Inland Highway were tested and the results are discussed here.

For successful guided-wave damage inspection, the appropriate signal processing of measured wave signals is very important. The objective of this paper is to introduce an efficient signal processing technique especially suitable for the guided-waves used for damage detection. The key idea of this technique is to model guided-waves by chirp functions of special form considering the dispersion phenomenon. To determine the parameter of the chirp functions simulating guided-waves, the matching pursuit algorithm is employed. The damage information in waveguides can be extracted by pulse-characterizing parameters. The effectiveness of present method is checked with the longitudinal wave-based damage inspection.

In this research, the structural health monitoring method using wavelet packet analysis and artificial neural network (ANN) is developed. Wavelet packet Transform (WPT) is applied to the response acceleration of a 3 element-cantilever beam which is subjected to impulse load and Gaussian random load to decompose the response signal, then the energy of each component is calculated. The first ten largest components in magnitude among the decomposed components are selected as input to an ANN to identify the damage location and severity. This method successfully predicted the amount of damage in the structure when the structure is subjected to impulse load. However, when the beam is subjected to Gaussian random load which can be considered as ambient vibration it did not yield satisfactory results. This method is applicable to structures such as machinery gears that are subjected to repetitive loads.

This study presents the NDE (non-destructive evaluation) technique for detecting the loosened bolts on joint steel structures on the basis of TOF (time of flight) and amplitudes of Lamb waves. Probabilistic neural network (PNN) technique which is an effective tool for pattern classification problem was applied to the damage estimation using PZT induced Lamb waves. Two kinds of damages were introduced by dominant damages (DD) which mean loosened bolts within the Lamb waves beam width and minor damages (MD) which mean loosened bolts out of the Lamb waves beam width. They were investigated for the establishment of the optimal decision boundaries which divide each damage class's region including the intact class. In this study, the applicability of the probabilistic neural networks was identified through the test results for the damage cases within and out of wave beam path. It has been found that the present methods are very efficient and reasonable in predicting the loosened bolts on the joint steel structures probabilistically.

Acoustic response control of a corner-pinned plate using piezoelectric wafers was studied, both theoretically and experimentally. Three different sizes of aluminum alloy plates were used and available ball joints were employed to hold the plate at the four comers. The plate with the largest aspect ratio showed the largest and most clear responses to the acoustic excitation in the range of frequencies
$(0\sim200Hz)$ , and sound pressure levels$(80\sim100dB)$ as predicted. The reduction of the acoustic response of the plate by piezoelectric actuator was very significant, more than expected, but abatement of the sound transmission through the plate was only slightly altered by the piezoelectric actuator. This work is an original work extending earlier work with doors excited by acoustic fields. The important difference is the used of ball joints to simulate the joints. -
Structural damping enhancement of composite flexures and aeroelastic stability of a hingeless rotor system are investigated. Constrained layer damping (CLD) treatments are applied in order to increase structural damping of flexures. Material damping property of viscoelastic layer is modelled as complex modulus. Modal analysis of composite flexures with attached viscoelastic layers and constraining layers are performed using MSC/NASTRAN and the effects of CLD treatments are verified with the modal test results. The composite flexures with CLD are applied to a 4-bladed, 2-meter diameter, Froude-scaled, soft-in-plane hingeless rotor system. The aeroelastic stability is tested at hovering condition and the effects of CLD are investigated. It is shown that the CLD treatment effectively enhance the aeroelastic stability at hover.

Noise and vibration was encountered in exhaust duct system which is connected with a gas turbine and a heat recovery steam generator(HRSG) of a cogeneration power plants. Especially, these problems occurred when water was added to the fuel injection to reduce NOx contents of the exhaust gas. Through the cavity mode analysis and measurements, It was concluded that these problems occurred due to the acoustic resonance between the duct cavity mode and the excitation force induced by turbulent gas flow during water injection. To reduce the noise and vibration, optimal baffle plate to change the cavity mode was installed inside of duct and noise levels of about 8 dB(A) are reduced in duct system. The effects of baffle plate and guide vane to the HRSG or inlet duct vibration were also evaluated and it was verified that there is no relation to the resonance phenomena. So, vibration of inlet duct was easily reduced by the reinforcement of structures.

The modeling of an active vibration isolation system is accomplished by using the equivalent spring constant, mass and rotational Inertia of each component. The detailed model of the actuation module is successful for describing its frequency-domain performance but also too complicated to implement it to actual system for control so that the order of the model is reduced up to the degree that preserves its characteristic in the low frequency range. The reduced model is suitable for identifying the unknown system parameters such as damping constants of components. The overall isolation system is described by using the reduced model of the actuation module. The accurate model ing and system parameter identification that is essential for the control of the active vibration isolation system is attained successfully.

This paper studies the designing method and application for grommets, rubber material used to absorb vibration on the air conditioner compressor. The existing grommet with hardness 40 degrees, EPDM, has the high transmissibility on the compressor that causes additional structure born sound. The problem for EPDM is transformation over long time usage possibly due to its design in which stress is concentrated on a certain position. In order to resolve it, silicon material was previously used with the same design in some models. The vibration performance did improve, but the cost became high. Static and dynamic responses of micro double cantilever beam structures interacted by electrostatic forces are obtained employing Galerkin's method based on Euler beam theory. Variations of static and dynamic responses as well as natural frequencies are estimated for several sets of beam properties and applied voltages. It is shown that the variations of beam properties resulted by manufacturing process influence the deflections and the modal characteristics significantly. Such information can be usefully employed for the design of MEMS structures.

In this paper, based on shaking table test results on a seismically isolated bridge model, an inelastic numerical model is refined by using Bouc-Wen model representing the hysteretic behavior of isolators. Seismic responses of isolated bridges are numerically investigated varying with relative stiffness ratios, which is a ratio of the effective stiffness of isolator to the lateral stiffness of bridge pier. From the results, it is found that an adequate range of relative stiffness ratio could be defined for seismic design of isolated bridges without considering the flexibility of piers.

Substructures position is considered as design parameter to obtain optimal structural changes to raise its dynamic characteristics. In conventional SDM (structural dynamics modification) method, the layout of modifying substructures position is first fixed and at that condition the structural optimization is performed by using the substructures size and/or material property as design parameters. But in this paper as a design variable substructures global translational and rotational position is treated. For effective structural modification the eigenvalue sensitivity with respect to that design parameter is derived based on measured frequency response function. The optimal structural modification is calculated by combining eigenvalue sensitivities and eigenvalue reanalysis technique iteratively. Numerical examples are presented to the case of beam stiffener optimization to raise the natural frequency of plate.

In this paper, a modeling method for the vibration analysis of rotating structures composed of beams and shells employing multi-reference frames is presented. The rotary inertia effect and the geometric stiffening effect that results from centrifugal inertia force we considered for beams and shells with lumped mass model. In most previous studies, single reference frame has been employed for the vibration analysis. In the present study, a modeling method employing multi-reference frames is presented and the effects of employing multi-reference frames on the analysis accuracy are investigated through solving numerical examples.

This paper describes a method for identifying the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings for high speed turbomachinerys with the LS/IV method. In fact identifying the characteristics of air foil bearings is very difficult work, and it is tried to identify it. Experiments were conducted to determine the structural dynamic and hydrodynamic characteristics of air foil bearings. Numerical predictions compare the static and dynamic force performances. The housing of the bearing on the journal was driven by the impact hammer which were used to simulate impact force acting on air foil bearings. The characteristics of air foil bearings were extracted from the frequency response function (FRF) by LS(Least Square) method and IV(Instrumental Variable) method. The experiment was tested at 0 rpm and
$10000\sim16000rpm$ . And the test results were introduced about the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings, and also compared with theoritical results. -
This paper addresses the study on developing the angular vibration calibration system which requires the highly accurate measurement technique of the amplitude and period of an oscillating angular motion. Two developed models for the low and high frequency ranges are introduced and their main features are also compared. In addition to the angular vibration exciters, a new measurement method, referred to the 'equi-angle sampling method', is proposed and its theoretical backgrounds are introduced. The proposed method is shown to provide much less measurement uncertainty, compared the fringe counting method. Experimental results demonstrate what amount of angular vibration amplitude measurement uncertainty is improved by suing the proposed equi-angle sampling method.

To increase accurateness and reliability of the evaluation of power tool vibration transmitted to an operator, it is necessary to measure grip and feed forces during the measurement of hand-transmitted vibration. In the study a system was invented to measure the vibration and the grip and/or feed force, which consists of a measurement handle and a PC with data acquisition system and the software. Strain gauges and an accelerometer were mounted on the handle for the simultaneous measurement of the forces and the vibration. The program in the system makes it possible to monitor the grip and feed force during the tool operation so that the operator keeps the applying forces within the pre-determined range. Investigating the vibration total values, frequency-weighted root mean square accelerations at the handle, obtained at various conditions with control of the grip and feed force showed more consistency than those measured without force control. By using the system the experimenter can reduce uncertainty of the measured vibration.

STSAT RWA (Reaction Wheel Assembly) micro-vibration is measured using KISTLER dynamic plate that can provide the time signals of three orthogonal forces and torques simultaneously up to 400Hz. In the post-processing, measured data are evaluated with respect to the wheel spin rate in both time and frequency domains, and the static/dynamic unbalances are evaluated from the extracted first harmonic component. Also the friction torque profile at each wheel speed is estimated from the measured data. Several higher order harmonic components are observed, that comes from its rotor shape as well as the wheel bearing characteristics. One of the most peculiar characteristics of this wheel is that the dynamic properties of two radial unbalance components are much different from each other as the RWA mounting configuration on a spacecraft is different from conventional RWA mounting configuration. Rocking mode is not appeared below 400Hz for all operating speed because the wheel size is very small. The post-processed results will be used for jitter analysis of STSAT due to RWA micro-vibration.

Empirical mode decomposition(EMD) method has been recently proposed to analyze non-linear and non-stationary data. This method allows the decomposition of one-dimensional signals into intrinsic mode functions(IMFs) and is used to calculate a meaningful multi-component instantaneous frequency. In this paper, it is assumed that each mode of damped vibration signal could be well separated in the form of IMF by EMD. In this case, we can have a new powerful method to calculate natural frequencies and dampings from damped vibration signal which usually has multiple modes. This proposed method has been verified by both simulation and experiment. The result by EMD method which has used only output vibration data is almost identical to the result by FRF method which has used both input and output data, thereby proving usefulness and accuracy of the proposed method.

A study of the coupled flexural-torsional vibrations of thin-walled beams with monosymmetric cross-section is presented. The governing differential equations for free vibration of such beams are solved numerically to obtain natural frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes. The beam model is based on the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and the effect of warping is taken into consideration. Numerical results are given for two specific examples of beams with free-free, clamped-free, hinged-hinged, clamped-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints both including and excluding the effect of warping stiffness. The effect of warping stiffness on the natural frequencies and mode shapes is discussed and it is concluded that substantial error can be incurred if the effect is ignored.

In this paper a dynamic behavior of a double-cracked cnatilver beam with a tip mass and the moving mass is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the moving mass, a tip mass and double cracks have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever beam system by numerical method. The cracks section are represented by the local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. ,Therefore, the cracks are modelled as a rotational spring. Totally, as a tip mass is increased, the natural frequency of cantilever beam is decreased. The position of the crack is located in front of the cantilever beam, the frequencies of a double-cracked cantilever beam presents minimum frequency.

Two modified versions of subspace iteration method using accelerated starting vectors are proposed to efficiently calculate free vibration modes of structures. Proposed methods employ accelerated Lanczos vectors as starting iteration vectors in the subspace iteration method. To investigate the efficiency of proposed methods, two numerical examples are presented.

A simplified method for the computation of first second and higher order derivatives of eigenvalues and eigenvectors derivatives associated with repeated eigenvalues is presented. Adjacent eigenvectors and orthonormal conditions are used to compose an algebraic equation whose order is (n+m)x(n+m), where n is the number of coordinates and m is the number of multiplicity of the repeated eigenvalues. The algebraic equation developed can be used to compute derivatives of both eigenvalues and eigenvectors simultaneously. Since the coefficient matrix in the proposed algebraic equation is non-singular, symmetric and based on N-space it is numerically stable and very efficient compared to previous methods. This method can be consistently applied to structural systems with structural design parameters and mechanical systems with lumped design parameters. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the finite element model of the cantilever beam is considered.

Reduction of a ship's rolling is the most important performance requirement for improving the safety of the crew on board and preventing damage to cargos as well as improving the comfort of the ride. A mass driving anti-rolling system (MD-ARS) might be one candidate of several systems against the ship's rolling. In this paper, three types of MD-ARS, two passive and one active devices, are developed for small ships. After they are installed on the cabin of the small leisure boat, respectively, a series of test is conducted before and after operating them. Through the test, it is confirmed that the roll responses of the ship are pretty well reduced by the system.

The exhaust noise of auxiliary engine in ships is directly transmitted to bridge wing with only distance attenuation. It is not easy to find out practical treatment to be applied between exhaust pipe and bridge wing to reduce the transmission of the exhaust noise. In general, therefore, a silencer is fitted to reduce the exhaust noise and correspondingly noise of bridge wing. The silencer should be properly designed under the consideration of the frequency component of the exhaust noise and the required performance such as noise reduction or insertion loss. In general, the gas inside the exhaust pipe flows with high temperature and speed and thus onboard test condition is more adverse than the standard atmospheric condition. In this study, the test method to evaluate silencer performance using a probe microphone is introduced.

The interior noise reduction of construction equipment is concerned for improving the driver comfort in this study. From the baseline test, the exhaust noise gives a big contribution to the interior noise of construction equipment. And the detail noise contribution analysis of the exhaust system, the tail pipe, which is for ventilation an engine room hot air to outside, amplify the exhaust noise around operating engine RPM associated with tail pipe structural and cavity resonances. To remove the noise amplifying effects, the tail pipe has to be shorted its length. Even the noise can be attenuated the ventilation flux when using the redesigned tail pipe is reduced than the original one. Thus, a shape change of the tail pipe is additionally needed for increasing the ventilation flux and attenuating the exhaust noise using CFD technique. The CFD results of the tail pipe give a meaning full information what obstructs the ventilation flex in the current design and how changes the tail pipe.

In concrete pavements with uniform tining space, the whine noise which has high frequency spectrum related to the uniform tining space exist. In this paper, randomization procedure of tining space for concrete pavements is proposed. The proposed procedure developed based on the LCG(Linear Congruential Generator) algorithm. And the factor concerned in the procedure are drag span length, number of different tining space, ratio of each tining space, total tinings of each size, sequence of actual tining.

After launching, spacecraft is exposed to extreme environments. So spacecraft should be tested after design/manufacture to verify whether components can be operated functionally. Acceleration transferred from launch vehicle to spacecraft produces quasi-static load, sine vibration and random vibration. Random vibration is also induced by acoustic vibrations transferred by surface of spacecraft. And shock vibration is produced when spacecraft is separated from launch vehicle. To verify operation of spacecraft under these launch environments, separation shock test, sine vibration test, acoustic vibration test and random vibration test should be performed. This paper describes these launch environment test requirements.

This paper presents a design of the directional radiation pattern by using the structural-acoustic interaction. For this purpose, prediction of the pressure distribution of the field points and radiation pattern of the structural-acoustic coupling system is shown. In order to get a strong coupling, coupled system that has a finite space and a semi-infinite space separated by two flexible walls and an opening is selected. A volume interaction can be occurred in structure boundary and a pressure interaction can be happened in the opening boundary. The coupled system is maximized the radiation power on the main axis and minimized the side lobe level.

In our country, when the replacement for individual components of equipment in nuclear power plants is required, establishment of individual criteria i.e. Required Response Spectra(RRS) of seismic test/analysis for the component is very difficult because of the absence of Test Response Spectra(TRS) for the individual component to be replaced, from the existing qualification documents. In this case, it is required to perform the structural analysis for the nuclear equipment including the components to be replaced. After the structural analysis, Analysis Response Spectra(ARS) at the point of the component shall be generated and used for seismic test of the component. However, as of today, no standard program authorized for the response spectra generation by using the structural analysis exists in korea. Because of above reason, the STAR-Egs computer program was developed by using the method which calculates directly the expected response spectrum(frequency vs. acceleration type) of the selected points in the nuclear equipment with input spectrum(Required Response Spectra, RRS), based on the dynamic characteristics of the Finite Element(FE) model that is equivalent to the nuclear equipment. The STAR-Egs controls ANSYS/I-DEAS commercial software and automatically extract modal parameters of the FE model. The STAR-Egs calculates response spectrum using the established algorithm based on the extracted modal parameters, too. Reliance on the calculation result of the STAR-Egs was verified through comparison output with the result of MATLAB commercial software based on the identical algorithm. Moreover, actual seismic testing was performed as per IEEE344-1987 for the purpose of program verification by comparison of the FE analysis results.

Recently, various acoustic artifacts that contains speaker have been produced such as cellular phone. Speaker consists of diaphragm generating sound and coil vibrating diaphragm. Generally, good speaker means that it has a wide frequency range, high output power rate to input power and flat sound pressure level in specified frequency range. Acoustic characteristic was estimated through the experiment and computer simulation, or sound power was controlled with acoustic sensitivity in a natural frequency range fer last decade. However, the flatness of sound pressure level has not been considered to enhance the sound quality of a speaker. Tn this study, a method for speaker design is proposed for a good acoustic characteristic, which is flatness of SPL(sound pressure level) and wideness between the first and second natural frequency. SYSNOISE is used fer acoustic analysis and ANSYS is used for harmonic response analysis and modal analysis. Optimization for acoustic characteristics of a speaker diaphragm is performed using ModelCenter. All analyses are done within a frequency domain. And we confirm that the experimental and computational simulations have similar trend.

항공기 소음평가 방법에 있어 전혀 다른 소음특성을 갖는 군용 항공기 소음과 민간 항공기 소음을 환경부에서 고시한 소음 진동공정 시험방법에 의거하여 소음을 측정하고 평가하는데는 많은 문제점이 뒤따른다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 민간 항공기와 군용 항공기 소음의 측정 및 평가방법에 대한 문제점들을 고찰하였다. 연구결과로 부터, 민간 항공기나 군용 항공기의 정확한 소음측정을 위해서는 동특성을 빠름(Fast)으로 설정하여 측정하는 것이 바람직한 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 등가 소음도를 측정하여 항공기 소음을 평가하는 방식은 민간 항공기 소음평가시에는 적절하지만, 이를 군용 항공기 소음에 적용하여 평가할 때에는 상당한 오차를 포함하는 것으로 조사되었다. 그리고 군용 항공기 이 착륙지점에서의 소음 지속시간이 대부분 30초를 초과하는 것으로 조사되었기 때문에, 군용 항공기 소음평가시에는 지속시간에 대한 보정이 반드시 반영되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Opera house acoustics were subjectively evaluated in order to investigate the effect of performance stage views on the audience's perception of the seat acoustics in an opera house. Nine seats from an existing opera house were selected for the auditory and/or visual experiments according to seating area distribution and acoustical parameters such as RT and
$1-IACC_{E3}$ . The recorded music, convolved from the impulse response, was presented with and without visual images of the stage. Subjects were asked to assess the auditory/visual descriptors and overall impression of the music at each seat. The results showed that good visual input helps produce a favorable impression of the acoustics, but a limited view degrades acoustical impression. The acoustical parameters in the tested seats were also investigated to find the relationship between the acoustical parameters and the visual/sound impression. -
Recently, one of the reason of noise problems is urban planning has little concern about noise. For solving noise problems, strategic action is needed during urban planning. The noise map is one of the solution for concerning about noise in urban planning and EC has been studied the noise map for the strategic purpose since 1970s. The noise map is powerful tool for predicting sound level, calculating exposure population and evaluating the efficiency of the noise reduction plan. In Korea, The noise map is a unfamiliar field. The experience is few for noise-mapping and the noise mapping procedure has not been standardization yet. For activation of noise map, the study about fundamental problems of collecting data md noise-mapping procedure must be need. This paper is for studying on the noise-mapping procedure in Korea and application of noise map.

In the Well-being age, many people use a city park for rest deeply think and constitutional walk. The city park is located at near side by traffic road in urban. Citizens are not satisfied with it's fuction as a haven of peace due to road traffic noise. Thus, this study is for a research on the actual noise condition of a city park in Nowon go. This study uses a prediction method called ASJ-model in order to calculate PWLs of road traffic noise. Using calculated PWLs, noise levels in a park are predicted and compared with measured values.

For the accurate evaluation of traffic noise with various spectrums and fluctuation characteristics, evaluation systems should reflect not only physical quantities but also the psychological respects of individual persons. In this study, adequate words for evaluating traffic noise have been extracted by reviewing the existing vocabularies and augmenting this with the results of a questionnaire prepared especially for apartment dwellers. As a result of this study, followings are suggested. 1) Vocabularies such as 'disagreeable', 'annoying', 'strident', 'disturbed', 'irritate', 'unpleasant', 'dislike' are classified into the first factor by factor analysis. 2) As a result of surveying overlapping vocabularies for each sound sources, 'noisy', 'annoying', strident', 'unpleasant', 'loudness' are main unpleasant vocabularies to franc noise occurring in our domestic apartment houses.

The characteristics of refrigerator noise recorded in anechoic chamber was investigated in condition of a the real living room and a kitchen. To predict the noise propagation in an apartment unit, room acoustic simulation software was used. It was found that the noise level in the real living room was
$4\sim8dB$ higher than in the anechoic chamber. When a noise barrier and absorption materials were used on the rear wall and floor, the noise level reduced up to$3\sim4dB$ . In addition, when the subjective evaluation of auralized refrigerator noise was undertaken using headphone, it was revealed that 21dB (A) is the allowable sound pressure level of 95% satisfaction. -
The thing that should be considered preferentially when we introduce sounds to the space we are living in is to clarify the notion - for whom when, what kinds of sounds, where, for what and how to. There are two physical habitate conditions which affect the quality of soundscape. The one is 'Background sound' of the space which should be masked or applied in accordance with its qualify. The other is features of the habitat which would be the factor building up ambience and the index for us to decide specificities of the sounds to be introduced. Selecting or producing the sounds to be introduced, we should consider those to make these represent the community, influence people's behavior, be in harmony with surroundings, and give the identity to the space. There are two ways to introduce the sounds. The one is to put sound sources which actually make the sound. The other is to put the sounds without practical sound source but with objects related to those. For later, it's important not to introduce the sounds people prefer but what would be in harmony with the place. In this study, we've researched what kinds of sounds could be utilized for soundscape designing. And, we've studied if those can be, how those should be introduced and what other factors should be considered.

It is requures to understand the meaning of sound and cultural background of target spaces for soundscape design. The purpose of this study is to derive the general soundscape preserved in the mind of Korean people. Four kinds of traditional Korean songs, that is to say, Sijo (Korean verse), folk-song, Pansori (song for drama by Chang reciter), and popular songs, were used as tools of research subjects. That is because the sounds expressed in literature are very useful subjects for soundscape survey. Paragraphs containing description of sounds were selected from the lyrics of the songs. Then 11 sound categories were named, and 13 meaning categories were classified according to referential and emotional aspects, respectively.

This research aims to derive the general emotion and preference of the 25 sounds by using the questionnaire method to provide the contents for the soundscape design fit to the characteristics of the given situation. The results can be summarized as follows; Nature sounds except dog barking and locust crying showed highest preference, and the traffic sounds, baby crying and footstep of upper floor showed the lowest. Hereby, the sound recognition can be different each other according to quality of tone and situation even they are the same sounds. The most impressive, wanted to be conserved and retrospective sound was the nature sound, and the most wanted to be removed sound was the machinery sound. And the social sound was shown as the most korean and fit to the art theme street.

The task of introducing sounds leads to the realization of a comfortable acoustic environment and the design of good soundscape. This paper aims to rate the preference of environmental sounds suitable to the public spaces such as park, garden, bus terminal, urban street. And aims to search for the methodology how to select the introducing sounds by subjective and objective procedures. Seventeen kinds of introducing sounds were rated by nine adjectives in the presence of visual site informations. Also adequate sound levels were calculated by adjusting the volume of introducing sounds in the presence of the background sounds and visual informations. The results of psycho-acoustic experiments are as follows. 1. Proposal of various introducing sounds were evaluated to be possible at the rather calm natural park. 2. The introducing sounds which have opposite visual image or already existing at the place were evaluated not adequate to the sound circumstances of the place. 3. By the sounds with the same meaning, the identity of the street and the improvement of sound circumstance can be obtained.

When we evaluate sound, there are various methods for noise such as A-weighted SPL(sound pressure level), NC(noise criteria), NR(noise rating) and SIL(speech interference level) etc. however, it is not sufficient for the sounds supplied to public places used in soundscape design. Consequently it is needed to develop the tool for evaluating the good acoustical environment and futhermore quantifying the effect of improvement by supplying sound sources. In this study, it was tried to analyse the sound sources applied for soundscape design using sound quality parameters. The sound sources used were natural sound artificial sound. For the sound quality parameters, Loudness(L), Sharpness(S), Fluctuation strength(FL), Tonality(T), Roughness(R), Unbiased Annoyance(UA) were used and sound quality values were compared both natural and artificial sounds, depending on the convolution of sound sources with background noise, the duration, the frequency contents and the SPL. As a result, the values of L and UA have shown to be changed comparing to the other parameters, and it is necessary to analyse the correlation with subjects' responses.

This paper deals with friction-induced vibration of disc brake system under constant friction coefficient. A linear, finite element parameter model to represent the floating caliper disc brake system is proposed. The complex eigenvalues are used to investigate the dynamic stability and in order to verify simulations which are based on the FEM model, the experimental modal test and the dynamometer test are performed. The comparison of experimental and simulation results shows a good agreement and the analysis indicates that mode coupling due to friction force is responsible for disc brake squeal. And squeal type instability is investigated by using the parametric rotor simulation. This indicates parameters which have influence on the propensity of brake squeal. This helped to validate the FEM model and establish confidence in the simulation results. Also they may be useful during real disk brake model.

Structural Dynamics Modification is very effective technique to improve structure's dynamic characteristics by adding or removing auxiliary structures, changing material property, changing shape of structure. In this research, using the surface grooving technique, shape of base structure was changed to improve its first natural frequency. Utilizing the result of frequency variation analysis, groove shape was formed gathering the many small embossing elements. For this process, Criterion Factor was introduced. To reduce its amount of calculation, the range of target area was restricted to their neighboring area and initial grooving point was selected using high-strain energy. This surface grooving technique was successfully applied to the HDD cover model.

An indoor package air-conditioner (PAC) has complex noise sources such as motor noise and fluid noise caused by the fan motor, heat transfer and shroud. Sound intensity techniques and ODS(Operational deflection shape) techniques are applied to identify the noise characteristics of an indoor air-conditioner's cabinet. The sound intensity is used to visualize the noise source locations. and the ODS to visualize the vibration pattern and to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the noise source. Acoustic intensity and operational deflection distribution are obtained in space domains as well as frequency domains. Using the visual information of source locations and its dynamic characteristics, the damping patch is applied to reduce structure borne noise in the cabinet. As a result, the noise emitted by the cabinet is reduced by 5dB.

In this paper, we have studied on the active vibration control of an automotive roof in passenger car's structure using piezoelectric material as the actuator and sensor attached on the surface of the automotive roof, As a control algorithm, negative velocity feedback control method is used in the study and the position of the sensor is almost attached on the nearest position of maximum normal stresses occurring while the roof is vibrating due to disturbance or exciting, Also, the actuator is attached on the other side mostly collocated to the sensor. The optimum positions have the maximum stresses of the roof which have been found in the result of the finite element analysis using Nastran software, As the fundamental experiments, a beam and plate have also been implemented to verify the performance of vibration suppression. Finally the experiment of the roof has been carried out and The roof experiment has just given a possibility to an active vibration control of the automotive structure still not applied for passenger cars.

Development of the linear motors is recently required to control a high-speed and high-resolution in the high-integrated and speed process industry. This paper presents vibration analyses as well as measurement standards of the newly developed linear motors through analyzing the vibration characteristics of the advanced products. Vibration experiments are conducted for identifying vibration level during operation. They are also included in the modal test to analyze dynamic characteristics. Analytic data using Finite Element Method (FEM) are compared with the results of the modal. The FEM and experiments make it possible to understand these characteristics. Further, through computer simulation for the behavior of moving part to be vibration source, the best acceleration pattern of moving part movement can be verified to achieve effective moving part positioning and reduce the vibration due to moving part movement.

Finite element method is appropriately applied to analyze the coupled journal and thrust bearing by satisfying the continuity of mass and pressure at the interface between the journal and thrust bearings. The pressure in a coupled bearing is calculated by applying the Reynolds boundary condition and compared with that by using the Half-Sommerfeld boundary condition. The static characteristics are obtained by integrating the pressure along the fluid film. The flying height of spindle motor is measured to verify the proposed analytical result. This research shows that the proposed method can describe HDB in a HDD system more accurately and realistically than the separate analysis of a journal or thrust bearing. -
조립식 건축용 외장재로 사용되는 샌드위치판은 충분한 구조강도가 필요하기 때문에 표면재가 굴곡판 (Corrugated plate)으로 구성되는 경우가 많다. 샌드위치판의 부재로서 굴곡판을 이방성판으로 고려하면 이론 해석상 많은 어려움이 있다. 그러나 이방성판이 샌드위치판의 부재로서 다중판으로 되었을 때에는 단판에서 보인 여러 가지 현상들이 다중판 효과에 비해서 크지않음이 실험결과에서 보이고 있다. 이러한 사실에 착안하여 이방성판을 등가의 평판으로 모델링한 후 샌드위치 모델을 적용하여 이론 예측을 수행하였다. 계측결과와 비교로부터 본 연구에서 사용된 방법은 좋은 일치를 보이고 있다.

An active method that improves low frequency characteristics of a reverberation chamber has been proposed. Spatial uniformity of sound pressure at low frequency has been increased by applying active noise control system. The system acts as frequency selective damping materials, which decreases resonance at low frequency and leave high frequency sound field as it is. Linearity of the chamber, which is essential for sound power measurement in the chamber, is guaranteed since fixed control logic has been adopted. Simple application and tests have been done in a small sized rectangular reverberation chamber which has 400Hz cutoff, Loud speakers were used to simulate a noise source and to construct an active noise control system. The spatial distribution of a sound field at 250Hz, 315Hz and 400Hz bands has been measured before and after control. The standard deviation of sound field has been decreased from 3.4dB to 2.5dB. The results show the possibility of active control system as a sound diffuser.

The system air conditioner has an outdoor unit and a number of indoor units, which connected by several long pipes. In comparison with building HAVC system, the system air conditioner doesn't need lots of facilities, such as control of room, cooling tower, etc. At the beginning stage for the market of the system air conditioner, its main application was a school which size is small to use the building HAVC and large to use home air conditioning system, such as PAC (package air conditioner), RAC (room air conditioner). Therefore, because of the advantages of the system air conditioner mentioned above, the market is expanded rapidly. Since it is difficult to evaluate the noise caused by the system air conditioner because it has to be implemented before the finish of construction, the prediction or estimation of the noise by using CAE technology should be very important. In this research, using a commercial code, RAYNOISE, the noise is estimated to improve the design of building.

Power transformers, air-intakes and stacks in the urban combined power plant are main noisy sources. Because of Inhabitant complaint by abnormal noise transferred from the power plant. the noise was investigated at power plant and uptown area. The result of diagnosis made the acoustic resonance phenomenon by 580Hz's combustion dynamic pressure with the standing wave mode of sound fields in exhaust passageway of gas turbine into main noise source of public complain. The abnormal noise is caused by the resonance exhaust noise transferred through stacks of power plant.

The noise and vibration diagnostic of the industrial robot reducer is ultimately the purpose. We evaluated a noise and vibration tendency of the industrial robot reducer to be made in the outside (RV reducer) through the experiment. Also, we compared the RV reducer to the industrial robot reducer (RD reducer) in the domestic. We measured the noise level with the sound level meter and analyzed the vibration tendency with the waterfall plot. Through the comparison of RV reducer and RD reducer diagnose the industrial robot reducer. We guessed the improvement direction of RD reducer. (The domestic's industrial robot reducer).

Two-phase flow exists in many industrial components. Characteristics of two-phase flow have been studied by many researchers; however, a further study of the two-phase is required for flow-induced vibration. Characteristics of two-phase flow were measured by force sensor at the end of a vertical pipe. The predominant frequency of fluctuation was obtained for various speeds of flow pattern. A correlation to slug frequency for horizontal flow was obtained by Heywood & Richardson (1979), while Legius et al (1997) for vertical flow. A coefficient based on the correlation is estimated and then compared to the existing ones. The existing empirical formulations for average void fraction were proposed by Wallis (1969), Zuber et al (1967) and Ishii (1970). In the present result, flow parameters, such as flow quality and real velocity, are evaluated with void fraction.

One of commercial rapid transits produces peculiar booming sound when passing through the slab-track tunnel. In order to analyze that tympanic membrane-pressing noise systematically, typical source-transfer path-response analysis was carried out. Considering the octave band of booming noise, work scope was confined to structure-borne noise analysis, especially the dynamic behaviour of railway tracks. Experimental modal analysis of railway tracks, composed of rail, rubber pad, sleeper, ballast, and ground were performed. The results shows that transversal bending modes of the rail are suspicious for the cause of the low band booming noise. Finite element analysis are made use of to match preceding experimental results, and plausible dynamic properties of track components are produced.

Since soil-structure interactions are one of the most important subjects in the structural/foundation engineering, much study concerning the soil-structure interactions had been carried out. One of typical structures related to the soil-structure interactions is the strip foundation which is basically defined as the beam or strip rested on or supported by the soils. At the present time, lack of studies on dynamic problems related to the strip foundations is still found in the literature. From these viewpoint, this paper aims to theoretically investigate dynamics of the circular strip foundations and also to present the practical engineering data for the design purpose. Differential equations governing the free, out-of-plane vibrations of such strip foundations are derived, in which effects of the rotatory and torsional inertias and also shear deformation are included although the warping of the cross-section is excluded. Governing differential equations subjected to the boundary conditions of corresponding end constraints are numerically solved for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes by using the numerical integration technique and the numerical method of non-linear equation.

An analytical method for the free vibration of two annular plates coupled with water was developed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The two plates with unequal thickness are clamped along a rigid cylindrical vessel wall. It is assumed that the fluid bounded by a rigid cylindrical vessel is incompressible and non-viscous. The wet mode shape of the annular plates Is assumed as a combination of the dry mode shapes of the plates. The fluid motion is described by using the fluid displacement potential and determined by using the compatibility conditions along the fluid interface with the plate. Minimizing the Rayleigh quotient based on the energy conservation gives an eigenvalue problem. It is found that the theoretical results can predict well the fluid-coupled natural frequencies comparing with the finite element analysis result.

Recently, several experimental techniques for identifying the noise sources distributed over a moving vehicle are being developed and used in order to design a low noise vehicle. The beamforming method, which uses phase information between several microphones to localize the source position, is proved to be one of the promising techniques applicable even under complicated test environments. In this study a beamforming algorithm is developed and applied to measure the dominant noise sources on a passenger car moving at constant speed. Unlike the acoustic signals from a stationary noise source, the sound generated from a moving source is distorted due to the Doppler effects. The sound pressure are measured with an spiral array system composed of 26 microphones and a pair of photo sensors are used to measure the. vehicle speed. The information about the speed and relative position of the vehicle are used to eliminate the Doppler effects from the measured pressure signal by using a de-Dopplerization algorithm. The noise generated from a moving vehicle can be grouped in many ways, however, tire noise and the noise generated from the engine are distinguishable at the speeds being tested.

The monopole theory has long been used to model air-pumped effect from the elastic cavities in car tire. This approach models the change of an air as a piston moving backward and forward on a spring and equates local air movements exactly with the volume changes of the system. Thus, the monopole theory has a restricted domain of applicability due to the usual assumption of a small amplitude acoustic wave equation and acoustic monopole theory. This paper describes an approach to predict the air-pumping noise of a car ave with CFD/Kirchhoff integral method. The type groove is simply modeled as piston-cavity-sliding door geometry and with the aid of CFD technique flow properties in the groove of rolling car tyre are acquired. And these unsteady flow data are used as a air-pumping source in the next Cm calculation of full tyre-road geometry. Acoustic far field is predicted from Kirchhoff integral method by using unsteady flow data in space and time, which is provided by the CFD calculation of full tyre-road domain. This approach can cover the non-linearity of acoustic monopole theory with the aid of using Non-linear governing equation in CFD calculation. The method proposed in this paper is applied to the prediction of air-pumping noise of modeled car tyre and the predicted results are qualitatively compared with the experimental data.

천공 요소는 자동차나 공조기 등의 유체기계의 흡/배기계에 널리 사용된다. 천공요소는 일반적으로 유동과 소음원이 동시에 존재하는 환경에서 사용되며, 유동 및 음압 레벨의 변화에 의해서 큰 영향을 받게 된다. 천공요소의 임피던스의 변화는 소음기의 음향학적 특성에 영향을 미치게 되므로, 유동이나 음압 조건이 임피던스에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구가 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 통과하는 유동이 존재하는 천공요소의 임피던스를 실험을 통하여 측정하고 경계요소법을 사용하여 예측하였다. 측정 및 예측된 임피던스를 무차원화 해석을 수행하여 영향을 미치는 인자들을 분석하였다.

$Re_\theta$ were measured by using the CPM method. The actuating frequency for the bimorph film was determined according to the priori bursting frequency from boundary layer parameters. The reduction of convecting energies in wave-number space was clearly observed at the specified actuating frequencies. -
The vibration characteristic is a primary design factor. The cylindrical shells are used as a primary components of complex structure. also, The cylindrical shells have oblique angle. In this study, The vibrational characteristics of steel and plain wave GFRP cylindrical shell with an oblique end are given by experimental and finite element method. To be find characteristic of the oblique end, the mass of the cylindrical shell is maintained. Natural frequency and mode shapes of isotropic and plain weave composite shells are obtained by modal test. The results are compared with those of the finite element method. The simply supported boundary conditions with bolts along the circumferential direction of the GFRP shell are well achieved. Also, The clamped boundary conditions is applied to the steel specimen. Those are shown to agree well with the analytical results and finite element analysis results.

The purpose of this study is to present a fundamental data to get the noise reduction method of subway station in Gwang-ju city. Subway noise level measurement and questionnaire on the satisfaction of sound condition were carried out. The results show that the noise level of the subway station and the noise reduction effect installed by screen door is over 10 dB(A).

Sound generation and radiation from the duct-rotor system are calculated numerically. The wake geometries of a two-bladed rotor are calculated by using a time-marching fiee-wake method without a non-physical model of the far wake. Acoustic free field due to a rotating rotor is obtained by Lowson's equation. Using Kirchhoff source, rotating sources are modeled as stationary ones and can be inserted in the thin body boundary element method. The Kirchhoff source is validated through calculation of acoustic pressure due to a rotating point force. The thin body boundary element method (thin body BEM) is validated through calculation of acoustic radiation of ducted dipole. Using Kirchhoff source and thin body BEM, acoustic radiation of a ducted rotating source is calculated. Acoustic shielding is observed by inserting a duct and shows different phenomena at each major frequency. Acoustic radiation of a real duct-rotor system is also calculated using this method and the ducted acoustic field is significantly different from rotor only.

In this paper, Power Flow Boundary Element Method(PFBEM) is studied as the numerical method for the vibration and sound predictions of complex structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. NASPFA, the sound analysis software based on PFBEM, is developed and is used for the vibro-acoustic analysis. And also the developed software is used for the prediction of interior and exterior sound fields of vibrating structures and for the analysis of the multi-domain problems. To verify the accuracy, NASPFA is applied to the prediction of the energy distribution in the simple structures, and its results are compared with exact PFA solutions. And various practical vehicle systems are modeled and the distributions of the acoustical energy density are successfully predicted.

Based on the authors' previous work, where a geometric constraint handling technique for stiffener layout optimization problem using geometry algorithms was proposed, stiffener layout optimization to maximize natural frequencies of a curved three-dimensional shell structure was performed with a projection method. The original geometry of the shell structure was first projected on a two-dimensional plane, and then the whole optimization process was performed with the projected geometry of the shell except that the original shell structure was used for the eigenproblem solving. The projection method can be applied to baseline structures with a one-to-one correspondence between original and projected geometries such as automobile hoods and roofs.

This paper presents a plant control panel model for the analysis. Seismic qualification analysis for the plant control panel is carried out to confirm the structural integrity under the seismic conditions represented by required response spectra(RRS). For the analysis finite element method(FEM) is used. And mode combinations are adopted to obtain the reliability of the spectrum analysis. The analysis results shows that the plant control panel system is designed as a dynamically rigid assembly, without any resonance frequency below 33Hz. The calculated stress of the plant control panel system is much less than yield stress of used steel.

Ball screw feed drive systems have been broadly used in machine tools or precision automatic feed systems. Recently, modern machine tools require high speed and high precision and drive system to achieve high productivity. Unfortunately, a feed drive system, even though it was optimum designed, may experience severe transient vibrations during high-speed operation if its feed rate control is unsuitable. A rough feed rate curve having discontinuity in its acceleration profile causes a serious vibration problem in the feed slide system. This paper presents a feed rate optimization of a machine tool feed slide system, which is driven by a ball screw, for its minimum vibrations. Firstly, a 6-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter model was proposed for the vibration analysis of a ball screw driven machine tool feed drive system. Next, a feed rate optimization of the feed slide was carried out for minimum vibrations. The feed rate curve optimization strategy is to find out the most appropriate acceleration profile having finite jerk. Of course, the optimized feed rate should approximate to the desired one as possible. A genetic algorithm with variable penalty function was used in this feed rate optimization.

Today, as the demands for home appliances are increasing, the understanding of noise and vibration characteristics have become more important. It is hard to control its vibration and noise characteristics, because its mechanical structure is very complex. In this study a model of reciprocating compressor is developed. Spring, frame, and LDT are modeled as flexible body, and the other parts are modeled as rigid. FEM model of frame is simplified in order to save the simulation time. We validated the simple model by comparing their natural frequencies and mode shapes. Motor torque is applied to a rotor, and the piston is subjected to a gas pressure. The vibrational characteristics of compressor is analyzed with LS-DYNA. Its results are compared with the simulation results of rigid body frame. The effect of LDT is also studied by comparing the vibration of frame with the results of simulation with no LDT.

In order to reduce the noise of BLDC motor, a systematic optimization procedure for rotor structure is presented. The noise index is defined as the sum of volume velocity of FE-model that are calculated at the dominant frequencies during dehydration process, which is based on the principle of radiation simple volume source. Then, the five design variables are selected to represent the shape and layout or rotor structure. This discrete design optimization problem for minimizing the noise index is solved by 3-level orthogonal array based effect analysis. Finally, the response surface method (RSM) combined optimization approach is employed for more refining the approximate optimum.

Hybrid method is used to suppress vibration of an automotive roof surface. The hybrid method proposed in this paper is implemented experimentally using both viscoelastic and piezoelectric material. The piezoelectric material is used to control the vibration of automotive structure for lower range of frequencies and the experiment of vibration control using viscoelastic material has been carried out suppress vibrations of high frequency range mark. At first the plate controlled by using hybrid method has been .implemented to verify the performance for suppressing vibration. Then the experiment has been applied to the automotive roof structure.

In this study, we identify contribution of structure-borne-noise of vehicle HVAC system using Multi-Dimensional spectral analysis (MDSA) method. Firstly, to identify the applicability of MDSA method, the case of HVAC system was modeled with four input / single output system. The four inputs which is given vibration data is composed of blower, evaporator, heater and duct. The single output is noise data from driver's seat. When the blower motor is operating, we analyze the contributions of four input / single output. As a result of experiment, we identify efficiency of systems modeled with four input / single output through ordinary coherence function (OCF) and multiple coherence function (MCF).

Squeeze film dampers (SFDs) have been commonly used to effectively enhance the dynamic behavior of the rotating shaft supported by rolling element bearings. However, due to the recent trends of high operating speed, high load capacity and light weight in rotating machinery, it is becoming increasingly important to change the dynamic characteristics of rotating machines in operation so that the excessive vibrations, which may occur particularly when passing through critical speeds or unstable regions, can be avoided. Semi-active type SFDs using magneto-rheological fluid (MR fluid), which responds to an applied magnetic field with a change in rheoloaical behavior, are introduced in order to find its applications to rotating machinery as an effective device attenuating unbalance responses. In this paper, a semi-active SFD using MR fluid is designed, tested and identified by means of linear analysis to investigate the capability of changing its dynamic properties such as damping and stiffness. Furthermore, the proposed device is applied to a rotor system to investigate its potential capability for vibration attenuation: an efficient method for selecting the optimal location of the proposed damper is introduced and control algorithm that could improve the unbalance response properties of a flexible rotor is also proposed.

There have been several kinds of attempts to actively control the deflected noise behind the noise barrier. Omoto's work in 1993 would be one of the fundamental studies, where he placed the control sources uniformly parallel to the noise barrier. Following this study, Yang pointed that the average distance between the noise source and control sources is more important than the arrangement of control sources such as a straight line or an arc type distribution. In 2004, Baek tried to show optimal arrangement of control sources while keeping the average distance between the noise source and control sources. He used simulated annealing algorithm which is one of the natural algorithms for the selections of optimal control source positions, but the searching technique was a hybrid of the simulated annealing and the sequential searching to adapt to the vast amount of searching time. This study is about the performance comparison between the pure sequential searching and the hybrid one. The simulation results show very similar performance and a pure simulated annealing searching will be more beneficial for the noise reduction performance but at the cost of computing time.

The study of the noise reduction of an automobile has been concentrated on the reduction of the automotive engine noise because the engine noise is the major cause of automotive noise. However, many studies of automotive engine noise led to the interest of the noise reduction of the exhaust and intake system. The method of the reduction of the induction noise can be classified by the method of passive control and the method of active control. However, the passive control method has a demerit to reduce the effect of noise reduction at low frequency (below 500Hz) range and to be limited by a space of the engine room. Whereas, the active control method can overcome the demerit of passive control method. The algorithm of active control is mostly used the LMS (Least-Mean-Square) algorithm because the LMS algorithm can easily obtain the complex transfer function in real-time. Especially, Filtered-X LMS (FXLMS) algorithm is applied to an ANC system. However, the convergence performance of LMS algorithm goes bad when the FXLMS algorithm is applied to an active control of the induction noise under rapidly accelerated driving conditions. So, in order to this problem, the modified FXLMS algorithm using Moving Bandpass Filter was proposed. In this study, MBPF was implemented and use ANC for automotive intake under revived rapidly accelerated driving conditions and it was verified its performance.

Pressure distribution is measured by way microphones to identify noise sources in the space. For example, beam-forming method or acoustic holography use phase information to identify the source. Therefore, the phase is significant information to correctly identify the source position. However, due to the microphone characteristics and measuring systems, measured signals always have errors, which make the identification difficult. Therefore, phase calibration of microphones is needed. Duct and speaker systems are generally used as calibrators. Acoustic characteristics of the calibrator are, of course, functions of many Parameters of the system: i.e. duct size, frequency, and microphone spacing. In this paper, design parameters which effect on the performance and size of the calibrators are considered. Then the parameters would be applied to design and real product of the phase-calibrator.

This paper is to experimentally study on the sound absorption of a membrane resonance type system. Membrane resonance type system improves the weak point of a perforated plate system. The experimental results for a membrane resonance type system are explained in comparison with those of a perforated plate system. From the experimental results, it is found that there is an influence of the membrane on the absorption performance. The sound absorbing performances of a membrane resonance system are similar to those of a perforated plate system.

The purpose of this study is to present a fundamental data for evaluating aircraft noise of building site development. By the field experiments and an predicted equal noise level contour using the INM program, actual condition in the building site development arranged district was investigated. In order to get the results, Analysis of factors effected on noise level, sound level on the rate of increase to aircraft demand and difference on the aircraft noise levels according to floor level in apartment house was carried out.

This aim of this study is is an experimental study to introduce the Reduction method of Floor Impact Sound in Apartment Houses by using Model Test, We are measured the floor impact sound in Rahamen and Apartment with Shear Wall and Post-tensioning. There is comparison between Rahmen Structure and Apartment with Shear Wall. The main results from this study are effective in reduction of heavt-weight The slab was constructed by rahamen structure. Heavy-weight can reduced by upgrading naturial frequency of floor impact sound in rahmen structure.

The environmental pollution by noise is recognized by the pollution source made it not only to carry out harm of the Quality of a life of people seriously in most countries, but was generated for most actual problems. The measure to such environmental noise must conduct first investigation which noise generating currently regarded as questionable says in what grade has resulted and the suitable measure by that is studied. The concern of the residents who demand such a comfortable living environment is increasing rapidly. Therefore, the three areas of Jeollabuk-Do judged that noise is comparatively severe was selected. It is going to grasp delicately the noise actual condition of a residential, semi-residential, commercial, industrial area.

This paper introduces an experimental study on the grazing incidence sound absorptions for duct silencers filed with a glass wool and consisted of a perforated panel. The experimental results are discussed in comparison with the normal incidence sound absorption. And also the transmission loss for duct silencers are measured and compared with the sound absorption performances. From the experimental results, it is shown that the resonance frequency bandwidth on the transmission loss and sound absorption coefficient for duct silencers has a good agreement.

The vibration of rotor systems is caused by various factors, such as misalignment, unbalance, gear meshing, error of assembly, etc. Modal test and TDA/ODS analysis were done. The dynamic analysis of the armature was done with SAMCEF which is a commercial software for finite element and kinematic analysis. The transient response of the armature is calculated by the SAMCEF with the consideration of magnetic force and bearing stiffness, which are the essential elements for the design of high speed cutter. Main frequency of the vibration is due to the unbalance of the armature. The FEM analysis model considering unbalance and the high speed cutter have same vibration properties. The vibration sources of the high speed cutter is proved to be unbalance.

In this study, refrigerant noise at connection of capillary tube and evaporator is investigated. Mechanism of refrigerant noise generation is examined in side-by-side type home refrigerator with two evaporators. It is found that the refrigerant noise is generated during refrigeration room fan-off (R-fan of) for that type refrigerator. The reason is that mass flow rate gets down during R-fan of and flow pattern is changed at outlet of capillary tube. We suggest designs for reduction of refrigerant noise with horizontal double expansion device, muffler, and accumulator. To evaluate those improved designs, sound quality index is used.

In this paper, the characteristic of the regenerative pump is reviewed by the measurement and the analysis. The dominant noise sources are harmonic components of the rotating impeller frequency. The acoustic characteristics and the noise source position at the dump are identified. In order to reduce the high-level peak noise, the interior flow of the pump chamber is analyzed by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Acoustic pressure is calculated with Ffowscs Williams and Hawkings equation. As the result of the analysis new design of the pump chamber is recommended. The recommended pump is compared with original pump by evaluating the RMS value of a interior static pressure and the sound pressure level. The new pump chamber recommended by analysis results is proved by a process of the measurement. The overall SPL of a recommended pump is reduced about 3 dBA.

In automotive industry, all passenger vehicles are treated with damping materials to reduce structure borne noise. The effectiveness of damping treatments depends upon design parameters such as choice of damping materials. locations and size of the treatment. Generally, the CAE method uses modal strain-energy information of the bare structural panels to identify flexible regions, which in turn facilitates optimization of damping treatments with respect to location and size. This paper proposes a design of the damping material with a CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) methodology based on finite element analysis and DOE(Design Of Experiments) to optimize damping treatments.

It is well known that the pipe will be unstable if the fluid velocity is higher than critical velocity. But even if the velocity of the fluid below the critical velocity, resonance will be caused by pulsation of the fluid. So, many people has studied about the piping system vibration due to a fluid pulsation. But almost guess that fluid has only one hamonic pulsation. Actually, like this case is rare quite. So, in this paper, we consider the vibration analysis of a pipe conveying fluid with several harmonic pulsations and compare the result which considers one hamonic pulsation with the result which considers several harmonic pulsations. And we verify the result in time domain again.

This paper deals with the vibration and stability of a circular cylindrical shaft, modeled as a tapered thin-walled composite beam and spinning with constant angular speed about its longitudinal axis, and subjected to an axial compressive force. Hamilton's principle and the assumed mode method are employed to derive the governing equations of motion. The resulting eigenvalue problem is analyzed, and the stability boundaries are presented for selected taper ratios and axial compressive force combinations. Taking into account the directionality property of fiber reinforced composite materials, it is shown that for a shaft featuring flapwise-chordwise-bending coupling, a dramatic enhancement of both the vibration and stability behavior can be reached. It is found that by the structural tailoring and tapering, bending natural frequencies, stiffness and stability region can be significantly increased over those of uniform shafts made of the same material. In addition, the particular case of a classical beam with internal damping effect is also included.

This paper deals with the development of a contact-type counting device using a piezoelectric polymer film as a sensor. The piezoelectric and vibration characteristics of the film under a bending vibration were investigated theoretically and experimentally. A counting device, which includes filters, an amplifier, an analog-digital converter, and a display, was designed and fabricated. The performance of the piezoelectric polymer sensor was evaluated in the sense of the responses to contact force, contact frequency, and contact speed. The life and the temperature effect were also investigated for the piezoelectric film sensor.

Bearings are elementary machinery component which loads and do rotating motion. Excessive loads or many other reasons can cause incipient faults to be created and grown in each component. Moreover, it happens that incipient faults which were caused by manufacturing or assembling process' errors of the bearings are created. Finding the incipient faults as early as possible is necessary to the bearings in severe condition: high speed or frequently varying load condition, etc. How early we can detect the faults has to do with how the detection algorithm finds the fault information from measured signal. Fortunately, the bearing fault signal makes periodic impulse train. This information allows us to find the faults regardless how much noise contaminates the signal. This paper shows the basic signal processing idea and experimental results that demonstrate how good the method is.

In this study the fluid-solid coupling(sloshing) behavior of the tanker-lorry during turning are investigated numerically. The ALE numerical method is used as sloshing analysis algorithm and numerical simulation is conducted for the various fluid filling height 25%, 50% and 75%. The forces for radial and vertical direction are calculated and compared for various fluid-filling heights. From the analysis results, in case of 25% filling, the sloshing effect is the most highest.

This study presents the reconstruction of sound field radiated from an automotive engine using equivalent sources. Basic concept of the method presented is to replace the engine noise source with elementary sources of multipoles, e.g., monopoles and dipoles. The so-called Helmholtz equation least-squares (HELS) method can reconstruct the sound radiation fields from spherical geometries in a series expansion of spherical Hankel functions and spherical harmonics. In this paper, multi-Point, multipole equivalent sources are employed to reconstruct the sound field radiated from an automotive engine with a fixed rotation speed. To ensure and improve the accuracy of reconstruction, the spatial filters of multipole coefficients and wave-vectors are adopted for suppressing the adverse effect of high-order multipoles. Optimal filter shapes are designed with regularization parameters minimizing the generalized cross validation (GCV) function between actual and reproduced model. After regeneration of field pressures using the proposed method as many as necessary, the vibro-acoustic field of an engine could be reconstructed by using the BEM-based near-field acoustic holography (NAH) technique in a cost-effective manner.

Tilting train improves a traveling velocity through giving a tilt the car-body without ride comfort deterioration in curve. Dynamic behavior in acceleration or deceleration will show quite another feature in constant velocity. In this study, we see through the dynamic behavior due to a variation of tractive force and braking force in Korean Tilting Train. Hence we compose of 3D dynamic model, as well as we check upon the property in service tractive condition and unique tractive condition with a fault motor. Besides we check upon the property in service braking condition and unique braking condition with a fault system. This study has the meaning with reference data of developing Korean Tilting Train test traveling.

Recently, KTX start service 2004 and speed up the Chung-ang line and Ho-nam line using tilting train. When the train speed up at curve the vibration environment are changed. It is the reason of the wave propagation problem in the curved source. In this research, using SSI Program SASSI, Predict the vibration propagation around the curved source of vibration. The curved source of vibration propagation is different from straight source of vibration propagation. In this study, made a curved vibration source model and compared with straight model.
