Korea's domestic construction market and overseas construction order environment are experiencing a decreasing trend, and this trend is expected to continue. Therefore, domestic construction companies are seeking to enter the global construction market. This study analyzes the global construction market and the global competitiveness for global construction companies and provides the results. To this end, this study has developed a model to evaluate the global construction competitiveness level and to evaluated global construction competitiveness in 2016. The evaluation of global construction competitiveness was analyzed based on the competitiveness of construction infrastructure by country, and the evaluation results of competitiveness of construction companies. These assessments were based on 20 detailed international statistics (ENR, Global Insight, Compass, etc.). The evaluation results are as follows. First, in regard to the comprehensive global construction competitiveness by country, America ranked first among 20 countries, followed by China. European countries like Spain, Germany and the Netherlands ranked third to fifth, respectively. Korea ranked sixth, one rank higher than that of the previous year. America and European countries remain strong. Second, in regard to the comprehensive building infrastructure competitiveness by country, America ranked first followed by Germany. Korea ranked twelfth, which is the same rank as that of the previous year. When it comes to stability in the construction market, China ranked first and Korea eighth. For construction systems, Sweden ranked first and Korea thirteenth, and for infrastructure, Japan ranked first and Korea tenth. Third, according to the construction company's capability evaluation by country, America ranked first followed by China. Korea ranked fourth, two ranks higher than that of the previous year because of its building competitiveness (fifth → fourth) and design competitiveness (eleventh → eighth) which has improved. When it comes to building competitiveness, China ranked first and Korea fourth. For design competitiveness, America ranked first and Korea eighth, and for price competitiveness, India ranked first and Korea seventh. However, Korea is still in the middle of the pack rank among the 20 countries considered when it comes to design competitiveness. It is ranked eleventh for design productivity and thirteenth for foreign sales against the total sales (internationalization). Thus, Korea needs to improve technical power and tap into new markets for improved competitiveness, including increased productivity. To do so, more R&D investment is required.

Nuclear power plant (NPP) constructions are large scale projects that are executed for several years, and schedule control utilizing various schedules is a critically important factor. Recently Korea independently developed the Advanced Power Reactor (APR) 1400 and is building nuclear facilities applying this new reactor type. The construction of Shin-Kori NPP (SKN) Unit 3, which adopted the APR1400, was completed and commercial operation has begun, while, SKN 4, Shin-Hanul NPP (SHN) Units 1&2, and SKN 5&6 are currently under construction. Prior to the development of the APR1400, Korea built 24 reactors and accumulated the schedule data of various reactor types which provided the foundation for schedule reduction to be possible. However, as there is no schedule development and review system established based on the standard schedule data (standard activities, durations, etc.) by reactor type, the process for developing the schedule for new builds is low in efficiency consuming much time and manpower. Also all construction data has been accumulated based on schedule activities. But because the connectivity of activities between projects is low, it is difficult to utilize such accumulated data (causes for schedule delay, causes for design changes, etc.) in new build projects. Due to such reasons, issues continue to arise in the process of developing standard schedule activities and a standard schedule for nuclear power plant construction. In order to develop a standard schedule for NPP construction, i) the development of an NPP standard schedule activity list, ii) development of the connection logic of NPP standard schedule activities, iii) development of NPP standard schedule activity resources and duration, and iv) integration of schedule data need to be performed. In this paper, an analysis was made on the coherence of schedule activity descriptions of existing NPPs by applying the probabilistic methodology on activities with low connectivity due to the utilization of the numbering system of four APR1400 reactors (SHN 1&2 and SKN 3&4).This study also describes the method for developing a standard schedule activity list and connectivity measures by extracting same and/or similar schedule activities.

In high-density high-rise cities such as Hong Kong, buildings account for nearly 90% of energy consumption and 61% of carbon emissions. Therefore, it is important to study the design of buildings, especially high-rise buildings, to achieve lower carbon emissions in the city. The carbon emissions of a building consist of embodied carbon from the production of construction materials and operational carbon from energy consumption during daily operation (e.g., air-conditioning and lighting). An integrated analysis of both types of carbon emissions can strengthen the design of low carbon buildings, but most of the previous studies concentrated mainly on either embodied or operational carbon. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to develop a holistic methodology framework considering both embodied and operational carbon, in order to enhance the sustainable design of low carbon high-rise buildings. The framework will be based on the building information modeling (BIM) technology because BIM can be integrated with simulation systems and digital models of different disciplines, thereby enabling a holistic design and assessment of low carbon buildings. Structural analysis program is first coupled with BIM to validate the structural performance of a building design. The amounts of construction materials and embodied carbon are then quantified by a BIM-based program using the Dynamo programming interface. Operational carbon is quantified by energy simulation software based on the green building extensible Markup Language (gbXML) file from BIM. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be applied to analyze the ambient wind effect on indoor temperature and operational carbon. The BIM-based framework serves as a decision support tool to compare and explore more environmentally-sustainable design options to help reduce the carbon emissions in buildings.

Accidents on offshore oil and gas platforms (OOGPs) usually cause serious fatalities and financial losses considering demanding environment platforms locate and complex topsides structure platforms own. Evacuation planning on platforms is usually challenging. The computational tool is a good choice to plan evacuation by emergency simulation. However, the complex structure of platforms and varied evacuation behaviors usually weaken the advantages of computational simulation. Therefore, this study developed a simulation model for OOGPs to evaluate different evacuation plans to improve evacuation performance by integrating building information modeling (BIM) and agent-based model (ABM). The developed model consists of four parts: evacuation model input, simulation environment modeling, agent definition, and simulation and comparison. Necessary platform information is extracted from BIM and then used to model simulation environment by integrating matrix model and network model. During agent definition, in addition to basic characteristics, environment sensing and dynamic escape path planning functions are also developed to improve simulation performance. An example OOGP BIM topsides with different emergent scenarios is used to illustrate the developed model. The results showed that the developed model can well simulate evacuation on OOGPs and improve evacuation performance. The developed model was also suggested to be applied to other industries such as the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.

Due to the high degree of mechanization and the good environmental benefits, the prefabricated buildings are being promoted in China. The construction site layout of the prefabricated buildings has important influence on its safety benefit. However, few scholars have studied the safety problem on it. Firstly, in order to give a follow-up study foreshadowing the characteristics of prefabricated buildings are analyzed, the research assumptions are given and three types of safety buffers are established. And then a mult-objective model for the prefabricated buildings site layout is presented: taking into account the limits of noise, the coverage of the tower crane and the possibility of exceeding boundaries and overlapping, the constraints are and designed established respectively; Based on the improved System Layout Planning (SLP) method, the efficiency\cost\safety interaction matrices among the facilities are also founded for objective function. For the sake of convenience, a hypothetical facility layout case of the prefabricated building is used, the optimal solution of that is obtained in MATLAB with particle swarm algorithm (PSO), which proves the effectiveness of the model presented in this paper.

Considering its significant impact on the cost and schedule of construction projects, formwork as one part of temporary facility categories in construction should be arranged precisely. Current practice in the formwork planning is often conducted manually and repetitively, causing low efficiency and time waste. This study proposes an automated framework to generate more accurate and detailed formwork plans by utilizing information from building information modeling (BIM) considering the adequate geometric and semantic information provided by the BIM model. The dimensions and quantities information of elements in a building can be extracted automatically. Then, a rule is prepared for calculating the required forms erected around elements based on the contact areas. Finally, an algorithm of integrating first fit decreasing (FFD) with coordinated bottom left (CBL) is applied to automatically generate the formwork plan. The BIM-based automated planning framework is demonstrated by an illustrative example. The results show that the proposed framework can generate the formwork plan accurately and automatically, and significantly improve the efficiency in the formwork plan and reuse.

In this study, liner unit root tests and panel unit root tests to the ratio of city to regional house price were applied to examine the ripple effects across 28 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region. Then invert LM unit root tests with two structural breaks for 10 representative cities were conducted. The results showed that there is overwhelming evidence of the existence of ripple effect in the Yangtze River Delta region, while segmentation is restricted to a small group of cities in which there is no long-run relationship with the Yangtze River Delta region average; compared to no- and one-break case, there is overwhelming evidence of a ripple effect with the LM test with two structural breaks. Furthermore, the results of the Granger causality test showed that changes in house prices in Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou have led to changes in house prices in other cities. The findings of this research make certain contributions to the improvements of research system of ripple effect among regional house prices in the Yangtze River Delta Region, and could be referenced by other markets of other cities.

Rapidly expanding population in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a massive impact to put pressure on the shortage of housing and existing infrastructure. With average population growth rate of 1,9% yearly, the population in Saudi Arabia is projected to increase from 31 million in 2015 to 37 million in 2025. According to the housing ministry, Saudi Arabia needs to provide 3.3 million units to meet the demand in 2025, which is about 300,000 unit a year. In the past 40 years, using the conventional construction method, the Saudi construction industry was only able to build about 150,000 units per year. To meet the demand gap for the housing shortage, a new approach and innovation in construction methods are needed. Industrialized construction as an approach in construction methods has been studied and implemented in some countries that experienced similar corncerns. Industrialized construction can be defined as the implementation of manufacturing methods to construction-related activities to improve quality, reduce cost and project duration. Compared to the conventional construction method, prefabrication as industrialized construction methods has reduced construction labor on-site by 9.5%, construction project duration by 20%, and construction waste by 56%. It improves the quality, durability and cost saving not only for construction project owners, but also construction contractors. This paper discusses the possibility of 'industrialization' of building system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a solution for the housing shortage. It is an initial part of a study aims to develop a framework to develop industrialized building system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The is paper based on extensive literature review and case studies.

Although hazard identification is one of the most important steps of safety management process, numerous hazards remain unidentified in the construction workplace due to the dynamic environment of the construction site and the lack of available resource for visual inspection. To this end, our previous study proposed the collective sensing approach for safety hazard identification and showed the feasibility of identifying hazards by capturing collective abnormalities in workers' walking patterns. However, workers generally performed different activities during the construction task in the workplace. Thereby, an additional process that can identify the worker's walking activity is necessary to utilize the proposed hazard identification approach in real world settings. In this context, this study investigated the feasibility of identifying walking activities during construction task using Wearable Inertial Measurement Units (WIMU) attached to the worker's ankle. This study simulated the indoor masonry work for data collection and investigated the classification performance with three different machine learning algorithms (i.e., Decision Tree, Neural Network, and Support Vector Machine). The analysis results showed the feasibility of identifying worker's activities including walking activity using an ankle-attached WIMU. Moreover, the finding of this study will help to enhance the performance of activity recognition and hazard identification in construction.

The floor heating method generally uses a wet construction method including the installation of resilient material, lightweight foam concrete, heating piping, and finishing mortar. Such a wet construction method not only delays other internal finishing processes during curing period for two mortar pouring process, but also has a disadvantage that it is difficult to replace the floor heating layer when it deteriorated because it is integrated with the frame. Dry floor heating construction method can be a good alternative in that it can solve these defects. Conversely, when it applied to the wall structure that is vulnerable to the interlayer noise compared with the column-beam structure, the question about the heavy-impact sound(HIS) insulation performance is raised. Therefore, conventional dry floor heating method is hard to apply to the wall structure apartments. Therefore, for the purpose to improve the applicability of dry floor heating method in wall structure apartments, this study investigated the change of floor impact sound, especially HIS insulation performance which is one of the required performance for the floor structure. This study tried to examine whether the change of heavy-impact sound pressure level(SPL) shows a tendency at the significant level according to the shape and mass of the floor structure. Through filed experiments on wall structure apartment, this study confirmed that the form of the raised floor shows better HIS insulation performance than the fully-supported form. In addition, it was also confirmed that the HIS insulation performance increases with the mass on the upper part. Moreover, this study found the fact that a mass of about 30 kg/m2 or more should be placed on the upper structure to reduce the heavy-impact SPL according to the bang machine measuring method. Although this study has a limit due to insufficient experiment samples, if the accuracy of this study is increased, it will contribute to the diffusion of dry floor heating by setting the HIS insulation performance target and designing the dry floor heating structure that meets the target.

The widespread dissemination of the green building certification system has led to the ongoing development of information management technologies with the aim to effectively utilize construction product information. Among them, a data crawling technology enables to collect the data conveniently and to manage large volumes of construction product information in Korea and overseas. However, without a standardized classification system, it is difficult to efficiently utilize information, and problems such as an additional work for classifying information or information-sharing errors. Therefore, this study suggests to present a necessity for the standardization of the information classification system through expert interviews, and to compare construction product classification systems in Korea and overseas. This study is expected to present a necessity for the effective management of construction product information and the standardization of information-sharing with regard to various construction certifications.

A Study on the Cost Estimate System Development Method for Nuclear Power Plant Construction ProjectsNuclear power plants in Korea are usually built based on a duplicated model; so the project cost data of the preceding unit can be used as reference when estimating the project cost for the succeeding unit. However, since the contracting method is oriented towards the price, empirical factors such as making top-down estimations using the reverse calculation method based on the completion cost of the preceding unit is dominant. In order to develop a project cost database to resolve such problems, the detailed cost boundary of the project cost data must be categorized by project and by system. This study proposes a method to connect the code of account with the base quantities and the IAEA account, and proposes a database structure for the development of a project cost estimation system. The estimation system developed in the future is expected to utilize the proposed project cost data structure.

As that experienced in other developing countries, Mongolia has already faced multilateral side issues for two decades due to economic growth that created Ger areas or internationally 'Slum', public housing and living conditions for low-income citizens, on the basis of rapid migration from rural areas to urban. Ger areas appear to be the main cause of environmental pollution problems and impending comfortable living conditions of the city's residents by covering more than half area of Ulaanbaatar city. Also, the spread of the Ger areas has many side issues such as prevention of urban development and unaesthetic. Most inhabitants of the areas are on low-incomes, and living in the detached houses or felt yurts (Ger) usually build within a low budget, by themselves or unprofessional people, and by using materials of poor quality. Therefore, Ger areas are an inevitable issue that requires effective, proper and immediate housing policy coordination under the government and even the housing market. Unfortunately housing policies, laws, and projects adopted by Mongolian government have shown inefficient results. The government housing policies, unlike other developing countries did not target low-income households' housing which is the priority issue for two decades. But only in 2014, the Long-term housing policy with the strategy for affordable housing initiated the housing policy for low-income households. This policy has five main broad directions such as redevelopment of Ger area, the land readjustment, public rental housing, new settlements and new city and reconstruction for old apartments, which are rather general and would require tremendous financial resources if each of the directions is implemented simultaneously without prioritization. Therefore this research aims to suggest the efficient and adequate housing policy direction for the low-income households in Ger area based on achievement of other developing countries' strategies, performances and generic characteristic with explanatory models. Also, this research adopts a literature analysis method that uses various research reports, related papers in domestic and international journals, and theses by experts, researchers, public institutions, and agencies.

Recently, countries in the South-east Asia are making efforts to enhance the construction industry system and introduce the construction management system. However, it is challenging to apply construction management in site due to lack of technology and professionals for CM. This can result in frequent safety accidents, cost overrun, schedule delay, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a clear evaluation of the overall situation regarding the level of technology and required competency. The objective of this research is to investigate on which management skills and items for CM are required to improve the construction management skills in South-east Asian construction industry. As a result of the questionnaire, most of the officials selected that the design phase and the construction phase are important works, and the engineers evaluated activities during the bidding phase, the design phase and the construction phase as important works for construction management. However, in most of the results, it was observed that the current competency of Vietnam construction is insufficient compared to the evaluated importance of the skills. This can be explained by the fact that they are not capable of managing construction projects effectively as compared to the importance. The results can help to realize the inadequate aspects of local construction industry, which will be the basis of improvements. Also, it is expected to be supportive to improve construction management in the countries and also provide indicators related to work stage or technology that should be acknowledged when establishing the advancing strategy for Southeast Asian countries in the future.

Procurement system of public construction projects in Japan is changing with diversity in rapid pace. The quality assurance and risk management of construction projects should be more certain as the projects are turning into larger scale and more complexed. The clients in the public sector will want to make the relation of responsibility among the client, the designer (architects and engineers), and contractor clearer in terms of role and risk. Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is one of the methods for collaboration of the public sector and the private sector in public construction projects where the public utilizes the ability and suggestion of the private. Private Finance Initiative (PFI), Design-Build-Operate (DBO), market testing, designated manager system, outsourcing of tasks in local governments are well-known as examples of PPP in Japan. Indeed, there is an obvious trend that Design-Build (DB) is adopted in public construction projects in many countries including Japan. In this paper, the public construction projects in various procurement systems are surveyed and analyzed. They are not limited within the traditional procurement, Design-bid-Build, a separate order system of design and construction. Design-Build or PFI are adopted. In particular, contract by wide range including maintenance of equipment can be found. On the other hand, modification from originally typical PFI is taking place, such as concept design and project finance are removed from the roles and the tasks of the special purpose company (SPC) in PFI. Standard roles and tasks in a construction project are modeled in this paper.

Recently, the wooden structure has been revived again as an eco-friendly structure technique. It is the counterattack of the wood material, which has become more recognized as a finishing material pushed by the concrete material in the rapid growth after the Industrial Revolution. However, it is difficult to conclude that this is a tendency of the construction market in the whole country. Perhaps this is a tendency to appear more strongly in Korea. It could be seen by comparing the characteristics of the overseas construction market with Korean's and the advanced constructed case of large-scale wooden structures in overseas. National wooden buildings show own characteristics such as construction methods, materials, and member dimensions of wood structures by country, which could be seen as a result of continuously developing their own technology. However, in Korea, despite its unique wooden structure and technology (Hanok; Korean traditional housing), it has not been developed continuously and treated it only as a living building exhibit. This is evidenced by the fact that only one percent of the building is constructed with traditional wooden building technology. Therefore, there are various efforts to modernize the traditional wooden structure technology, but it still does not reach the level of advanced wooden technology abroad. The characteristics of the Korean wooden building market were analyzed in order to suggest ways to develop the Korean wood structure technology. The characteristics of Hanok construction were analyzed through quantitative criteria to define the main development tasks for Hanok development to propose the long-term development path.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) comes to be implemented into architectural design, construction, and maintenance in Japan in order to convert design information thoughout a construction project. However, various problems are taking place in data transaction. It is not also clear about the role and the responsibility of the architects and the enginners in charge. There is a movement to establish a BIM manager as a general coordinator concerning BIM in Singapore and other countries, though it is not yet popular in Japan. This paper deals a BIM manager as a new profession in a construction project. The function and skills necessary to a BIM manager is analyzed, and the strategy of Japanese general contractors is discussed. General contractors from Japan are operating BIM in Singapore compatible with open system of supply chain. This style is different from the one in Japan even they belong to the same company. In this paper it is analyzed based on the survey in detail.

The housing market is divided into several sub-markets that operate independently. One of them is the distinction between rental and sales markets. Simultaneously, since the housing is a commodity as well as an asset, it has a close relationship between the rental market and the sales market. Due to the unique structure of Korea, it is difficult to apply the general method to analyze the housing market. This means there is a great deal of concern about side effects from the policy. Actually, the government's subsequent regulation of speculative demand in the future may be necessary to prevent market overheating, but at the same time, there is a fear that the rent will rise. Although changes in policy direction may be inevitable due to changes in market conditions, frequent and sudden changes in policy cause confusion in market participants, causing unrest in the housing market. This study aims to derive main factors and correlation with other housing market factor. These factors will be a base of qualitative housing market model to analyze the market effect of the demand-supply shift. Modeling is based on the system dynamics methodology, which is useful for identifying interactions between variables reflecting various variables in the housing market. The model discussed in this study is expected to provide integrated insight into the key variables of the housing market, away from the monopolistic thinking. It can also be useful as a means of assessing the effectiveness of policies.

In building project, client needs to decide many things, and clients cooperate with architects, supervisors, general contractors and other consultants. Especially in construction phase, clients often make a decision. However, client's decision-making in construction phase often makes some kinds of risk. This paper aims to clarify the reality of client's decision-making in construction phase. First, client's decision-making is defined by laws and standards. Second, the questionnaire revealed the current status of client's decision-making in 4 works. Third, Fishbone diagram shows the factors of client's decision-making in four works. Finally, it was modeled how client's decision-making in construction phase affects the post-process of 4 works.

With the acceleration of construction industrialization, the buildings that China has adopted the construction of industrialization technology are increasing day by day, and Precast Concrete (PC) Structure technology is one of the main technologies of construction industrialization. Compared with the traditional cast-in-place concrete structure, PC structure is more conducive to shorten the construction period, reduce the number of construction workers and the site construction waste. Nevertheless, PC structure improves the requirements of hoisting machinery in the construction site, and the lay-out and selection of hoisting machinery become an important factor influencing the construction cost. The paper regards the typical tower crane in China as the research object, and establishes the time optimization model for the lifting scheme. The influence of the different precast rate on the selection of the tower crane is analyzed. This paper obtains the time variation of the tower crane under different precast rate, provides a theoretical basis for the design of precast concrete structures under the influence of assembly construction, and lays the foundation for the selection of tower crane under the precast rate.

Facade structure system plays an important role in modern architecture and design. Many contractors start using Building Information Modeling (BIM) to help design and lay-out façade walls in recent years. However, there are still some users refuse to accept BIM on façade construction. Therefore, we employed Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to assess the users acceptable of BIM work flow, with using a practical case of facade construction in Chongqing Wanda City. The factors that will affect the builder's decision of whether using BIM or not when construct façade, and the relationship among them will be found via this model. Through the analysis using TAM, this research found that the direct factors influencing the completely acceptance of BIM in façade construction is the BIM quality and Result Demonstrating, and the parameter impacting the intuition engendering is the Exterior Condition. Therefore, this paper proposes a more systemic model of BIM acceptance in curtain wall to analyze the user's acceptance. The solution can also offer a reference for future research and construct on façade structure. The acceptance model has the significance that it can help to analyze the reason why users refuse to use BIM in façade construction, thus to help users accept BIM.

The construction industry has witnessed an exponential growth of drones used in the field over the past few years. Likewise, the field of maintenance has paid increasing attention to using drones with a view to improving the efficiency of condition checks in high-rise buildings and major space. Although operators manipulate drones to inspect buildings at present, drones are expected to autonomously move around without operators in a few years. Also, for indoor maintenance, it is important for drones to find accurate locations, which is implemented by real-time locating systems(RTLS). Yet, the accuracy of RTLS varies across the types of systems and indoor settings, which warrants a locating system suitable for indoor space and a location correction system designed to improve the accuracy. Hence, the current study investigated the accuracy of real-time locating systems(RTLS) for the maintenance of indoor space of buildings with drones and delved into the methods of correcting the location information to improve the accuracy of RTLS.

Mixed-reality technologies have proven to be valuable in many architecture, engineering and construction / facilities management (AEC/FM) applications. However, its potential of being adapted to facilitate hazard identification and risk communication in construction workplaces has yet to be fully explored. This paper makes an attempt to evaluate the feasibility of applying mixed-reality to enhancing safety risk communication in construction workplaces. Experiments have been designed in which Microsoft HoloLens® together with a developed application will be used to intervene in the practice of jobsite risk communication. A cross-sectional survey will then be followed to examine the effectiveness and acceptability of this technology through analysis on data collected from participants in the construction industry. The preliminary results show that this emerging HoloLens® technology, compared to the traditional communication methods (i.e., phone calls, walking up people and talk, and video conferencing), facilitates accurate, prompt safety communication on construction sites. Such findings signify the potential of applying mixed-reality to safety performance enhancement in the construction industry.

Excavation for construction is implemented in natural geographical terrain using a variety of construction equipment. Therefore, 3D excavation simulation requires integration of geographical and equipment modeling. This paper proposes a technique that integrates geographical and equipment modeling for 3D simulations of construction excavation. The geographical model uses a digital map to show ground surface changes during excavation and the equipment model shows equipment movement and placement. This combination produced a state of the art 3D simulation environment that can be used for machine guidance. An equipment operator can use the 3D excavation simulation to help construction equipment operators with decisions during excavation work and consequently improve productivity.

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a procurement method that has been proved to improve construction project performance. However, in China implementation of IPD practices in construction projects is unknown though some researchers have studied the problems and constraints in adoption IPD. The purpose of this study was to explore IPD adoption in Chinese construction industry. Critical components of IPD implementation were reviewed, and questionnaires were distributed to collect industry views. The results revealed that IPD uptake is still low. In particular, the liability waiver and shared risks and rewards have been rarely used. In addition, co-location, value engineering method and the new compensation approach have also been hardly adopted. Some practices related to early involvement of key parties were adopted. Surprisingly, the findings indicate that the client has been continuously involved in the projects. The findings may imply that the legal issues and problems of contractual frameworks are still constraining IPD implementation in Chinese construction industry.

Nowadays, the existing manual method for recording actual progress of the construction site has some drawbacks, such as great reliance on the experience of professional engineers, work-intensive, time consuming and error prone. A method integrating computer vision and BIM(Building Information Modeling) is presented for indoor automatic progress monitoring. The developed method can accurately calculate the engineering quantity of target component in the time-lapse images. Firstly, sample images of on-site target are collected for training the classifier. After the construction images are identified by edge detection and classifier, a voting algorithm based on mathematical geometry and vector operation will divide the target contour. Then, according to the camera calibration principle, the image pixel coordinates are conversed into the real world Coordinate and the real coordinates would be corrected with the help of the geometric information in BIM model. Finally, the actual engineering quantity is calculated.

The precast concrete (PC) structure has been preferred for reasons of shortening the construction time and securing the quality and, in particular, it has a cost saving effect in case of long span and heavy loaded structure with high floor height. Most engineers take it for granted to install the plant produced PC members. Researchers in several papers have argued that slander PC members such as columns and girders can be cost-effective if in-situ production is possible, while ensuring quality equal to or better than in-plant production. However, this argument is not officially accepted because objective verification has not been done. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to experimentally conduct in-situ production of PC members to verify the above claim. For this study, a storage building with long span and heavy loaded structure with high floor height was selected as a case study site. For the site, most of the PC members were supplied from the plant, and some of the columns were produced in the site for this study. Small islands in humid and hot climates have received less attention development due to lack of resources and difficulties for in-situ construction. This paper addresses this problem by presenting a modular system for sustainable construction of a resort hotel in accordance with the international tourism standards, in addition to, minimizing undesirable effects on nature. This has been achieved by review of literature in the scope of off-site construction and identification of the natural geographical features of Herndurabi Island. According to the information acquired, a feasibility study and design practice have been conducted to achieve a reasonable solution to equip Hendurabi Island as a sample with a self-sufficient prefabricate resort hotel. Findings indicate that the volumetric prefabricated modules would be a solution to devising a framework for design and construction in remote regions.

As various stakeholders are involved in construction projects, disputes between the parties are more likely to occur, which is a very important issue for the participants in the projects. Claims in construction projects, however, are very complex and thus difficult to manage. In particular, as the cause of a claim in the preceding stage that has not been resolved in a timely manner has an effect on the cause of a claim in the following stage, it is difficult to find a point of compromise regarding a claim caused by the relationship between the causes that occur in the preceding and following stages. In this regard, this study sought to examine the rules for the generation of change order claims, which occur most frequently among the construction claims, and thus to select the key management targets through the analysis of the relationship between the causes of claims arising in the preceding and following stages for the efficient management of claims. It is expected that the use of rules for the generation of change order claims as well as of representative and similar cases will help the construction practitioners in judging claims, considering the relationships among the causes of the claims. Meanwhile, in this study, association analysis was conducted regarding the causes of the occurrence of change order claims in a design-build delivery method, and therefore, it is necessary to verify the effectiveness of the method when applied to other delivery methods.

Infrastructure development as national project suffers from social conflict which is one of main risk to be managed. Social conflicts have a negative impact on not only the social integration but also the national economy as they require enormous social costs to be solved. Against this backdrop, this study analyzes social conflict using articles published by online news media based on web-crawling and natural language processing (NLP) techniques. As an illustrative case, the Jeju Naval Base (JNB) project which is one of representative conflict case in South Korea is analyzed. Total of 21,788 articles and representative keywords are identified annually. Additionally, comparative analysis is conducted between the extracted keywords and actual events occurred during the project. The authors explain actual events in the JNB project based on the extracted words by the year. This study contributes to analyze social conflict and to extract meaningful information from unstructured data.

Particulate Matter(PM) is one of the most critical pollutant which can cause a fatal disease if the human body inhales. Construction is the business that emits the most fugitive dust. It is therefore necessary to manage construction site. South korea government focuses on the fugitive dust control measures defined in regulation being implemented properly. However the number of civil complaints related to fugitive dust emitted from construction site is the most in korea. So it is necessary to check from the management system aspect. This paper compares and analyzes the fugitive dust management system which applied to the construction site of major cities in three countries, and finds out what needs to be supplemented by the domestic management system.

Quality evaluation and control represent increasingly important concerns for construction quality management. There is an evident need for a standard data model to be used as the basis for computer-aided quality management. This study focuses on how to realize evaluation of construction quality based on BIM and database technology. In this paper, the reinforced concrete main structure is taken as an example, and the BP neural network evaluation model is established by inquiring current construction quality acceptance specification and evaluation standard. Furthermore, IFC standard is extended to integrate quality evaluation information and realize the mapping of evaluation information in BIM model, contributing to the visualization and transfer sharing of evaluation information. Furthermore, the conceptual entity model is designed to build quality evaluation database, and this paper select MySQL workbench system to achieve the establishment of the database. This study is organized to realize the requirement of visualization and data integration on construction quality evaluation which makes it more effective, convenient, intuitive, easy to find quality problems and provide more comprehensive and reliable data for the quality management of construction enterprises and official construction administratiors.

Price fluctuation contract is imperative and of paramount essence in the construction industry as it provides adequate relief and cushioning for changes in the prices of input resources during construction. As a result, several methods have been devised to better help in arriving at fair recompense in the event of price chang es. However, stakeholders often appear not to be satisfied with the existing methods of fluctuation evaluation, ostensibly because of the challenges associated with them. The aim of this study was to identify the challenges to usage of building construction cost indices in Ghana. Data was gathered from contractors and quantity surveying firms. The study utilized survey questionnaire approach to elicit responses from the contractors and the consultants. Data gathered was analyzed scientifically, using the Relative Importance Index (RII) to rank the problems associated with the existing methods. The findings revealed the following among others; late release of data; inadequate recovery of costs; and work items of interest not included in the published indices as the main challenges of the existing methods. This study will provide useful lessons for policy makers and practitioners in decision making towards the usage and improvement of available indices.

China is experiencing the urbanization at an unprecedented speed and scale in human history. The continuing growth of China's big cities, both in city land and population, has already led to great challenges in China's urban planning and construction activities, such as the continuous increase of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Therefore, how to characterize cities' construction activities, particularly dynamically quantify the flows of building materials and construction debris, has become a pressing problem to alleviate the current shortage of resources and realize urban sustainable development. Accordingly, this study is designed to employ 4D-GIS (four dimensions-Geographic Information System) and Internet Plus to offer new approach for accurate but dynamic C&D waste management. The present study established a spatio-temporal pattern and material metabolism evolution model to characterize the geo-distribution of C&D waste by combing material flow analysis (MFA) and 4D-GIS. In addition, this study developed a mobile application (APP) for C&D waste trading and information management, which could be more effective for stakeholders to obtain useful information. Moreover, a cloud database was built in the APP to disclose the flows of C&D waste by the monitoring information from vehicles at regional level. To summarize, these findings could provide basic data and management methods for the supply and reverse supply of building materials. Meanwhile, the methodologies are practical to C&D waste management and beyond.

The sponge city construction is being carried out in China, and how to reasonably determine the scale of the sponge city facilities is a key point that the planners and designers should seriously solve. In this paper, taking determination of the sponge city facilities in a residential building in Shenzhen as an example, the layout and scales of the rainwater tanks, raingardens, ecological roofs and permeable pavements are decided by using the volumetric method and stormwater management model (SWMM). The calculated results by the two methods are compared and analyzed. The results show that the scales of the sponge city facilities determined by the two methods are almost the same, and it means that any method can be used to determine the scale of sponge city facilities. The volumetric method is relatively simple, and it is suggested to use to determine the scale of sponge city facilities during planning stage. While SWMM is more complex and requires a lot of input conditions, but it can provide the reduction effects of the sponge city facilities for rainfalls with different recurrence periods. Therefore, SWMM is recommended to use the calculation of the hydrological process of the sponge city facilities during the design stage.

This study discusses application of the storm water management model (SWMM) to designing the sponge city facilities in the Athletes Village of Military World Games in Wuhan in October 2019. The SWMM was used to simulate the runoff processes and reduction efficiencies of the sponge city facilities. The runoffs of the sponge city facilities were compared with those of traditional drainage system for the design rainfall of 35.2mm and the rainfalls with different recurrence periods. The results show that the hign density sponge city facilities could meet the requirements for 80% of annual runoff control rate, SWMM can determine the scales of the sponge city facilities and effectively simulate the hydrological processes for different layout schemes. The simulation model is also helpful to making optimization of the sponge city facility layout.
