Despite growing interest and attention from researchers and practitioners in management studies, empirical research has been limited on how factors that influence an organization's business performance are affected by certain characteristics of enterprise information systems (IS), such as maturity and infrastructure. This study reports on an empirical analysis of survey data to identify relationships among the informatization level, the business environment, and IS maturity and infrastructure related to business performance-based on financial and non-financial performance measurements-from the perspective of 136 Taiwan firms. The survey questionnaire respondents were drawn from individuals in each of these firms who were typically working in divisions related to business performance functions. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses that came from the research model in this study.
Unique and variety designs are required in the contemporary society as the design has predominant power. National character and identity of traditional culture support it, and it is far more important to reinterpret, succeed and develop unique traditional beauty as the contemporary continues globalization and informatization. Among the accessories of women in Joseon, hair accessories accounted for the majority, and hair style and hair accessories were developed by their status and social hierarchy. But, due to social norm, they were reserved for luxurious accessories and expressed their aesthetic desire with refined and simple accessories. The current period requires cultural identity. In this sense, this study is expected to give a new awareness of our unique identity, new concept of the traditional culture and spreading beauty of Korea by means of new conceptual accessories that can be connected with the preference of the contemporary with the creation of Korean style image.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how level of digital information usage of the middle-aged or elderly people affects life satisfaction and whether social capital mediates the relationship between level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. In this study, we analyzed data of 1,661 people aged 55 or older from the 「2018 Survey on Digital divide」 by the National Information Society Agency. The SPSS 25.0 statistical package was used for the mutiple regression analysis and Baron and Kenny(1986)'s steps for mediation. The statistical significance of the mediated effects of social capital was verified by the Sobel Test. As a result of the analysis, the aged people have a higher life satisfaction when they are women and older, do not live alone, have higher levels of digital informatization usage and social capital. In addition, social capital also revealed to have a mediating role between level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This shows that social capital needs to be considered along with the level of digital information usage as a way to improve life satisfaction of the middle-aged or the elderly people.
A substantial body of theoretical and case study literature exists about the relationship between competition and universal service in developing countries. On the one hand, many scholars have argued that state-owned monopolies in developing countries are not able to mobilize the capital needed for network expansion: the resulting unmet demand for services becomes a motivator for liberalization. On the other hand, the introduction of competition jeopardizes the internal and external subsidies through which the state-owned monopoly kept subscription rates low: the heightened concern about loss of subscribership incentivizes the creation of explicit universal service statutes and funding mechanisms concurrently with or soon after competition is introduced. This paper shows that universal service in Korea had a unique evolutionary path, which did not conform to either of these expectations. From this finding, it reaches the conclusion that the outcomes predicted by theory and observed in the case study literature are not intrinsic to the monopoly condition per se, but derive from the strategic choices made by telecommunications managers, regulators and lawmakers in developing countries.
This paper investigates factors that have facilitated the rapid diffusion of broadband in South Korea. It finds that the quick spread of broadband access in South Korea is the result of combining the government's strategic ICT policy considering cultural traits, businesses'competitive efforts, and the timely explosion of domestic demand for IT service. This paper also discusses the impact of broadband diffusion on the digital divide. It finds that although there are still regional and age gaps in broadband access, the Korean government and businesses are working to alleviate these problems through various ways from systemic to physical ones. While the deployment of broadband cannot eliminate every issue of the digital divide, broadband access minimizes the digital divide by lowering the barrier to inequitable access to information. This paper concludes with a number of recommendations that address selected policy issues related to the spread of broadband Internet for its successful implementation.
The governance structure of public broadcasters is the hottest topic in domestic media policy. This study examines the flow of discussions by period by synthesizing the research literature on the governance structure of domestic public broadcasting since 2000. As a result, active discussion on the governance structure of public broadcasting was confirmed to have appeared following the conservative governments after 2008, derived from the "crisis theory of public broadcasting." In addition, the discussion was conducted centered on the public values of public broadcasting and direction of system improvement, political independence of public broadcasting, composition of the board of directors, and presidential election system. This study suggested that future discussions on the governance structure of public broadcasting should expand the existing discussion of political independence to encompass the values, responsibilities, and systems of public broadcasting that presuppose citizen participation.
Science, technology and innovation (STI) has expanded the activity of actors from the traditional physical territory to the cyberspace. Data-driven platform services and markets advance new discussions on cross-border cooperation and cyber security, as well as discourse on sovereignty in cyberspace. These changes are also affecting the hegemony competition between the US and China. In particular, competition for aid to developing countries that are located along major resource transportation routes, such as natural gas and deep sea resources, is fierce. ASEAN is not only a geopolitical military and security point where the US and China powers collide, but its population of 600 million has great potential for the development of the digital economy due to its data resources. In this regard, this article aims to connect the discourse of liberalism and authoritarianism with data regulation and cybersecurity in international development cooperation, and derive implications for ASEAN integration through this. This study has significance as a convergence study that links international political issues related to big data in terms of global governance.
We empirically analyze the effects of psychological factors, such as the fear of parenting, on fertility rates. An index is calculated based on the share of negative news articles on child care in all social articles from 2000 to 2018. The analysis result shows that as the index increases, the fertility rate after three years falls. This result is repeated in the correlation analysis, simple regression, and VAR analysis. According to Granger causality analysis, it is found that the relation between the index and the fertility rate after three years is not just a simple correlation but a causal relationship. There are differences among age groups. The fertility rate of women in their 20s and 30s shows a significant response to the index, but that of the 40s does not. The index affects the birthrate of first child, but do not affect the birthrate of second or more children. These results are consistent with the intuition that younger women are more likely to be affected by the negative articles about parenting, but not to those who have already experienced childbirth. This study is meaningful in that a significant index for predicting social phenomena is extracted beyond the limited use of news big data such as a simple keyword mention volume monitoring. Also, this big data-based index is a 3-year leading indicator for fertility, which provides the advantage of providing information that helps early detection.
This study aimed to identify the causes of adult cyberbullying, an issue which arouses little academic interest despite its seriousness and its harmful consequences, in order to provide basic data for the formulation of reasonable measures for preventing and reducing adult cyberbullying. To that end, the author of the study analyzed the results of the government-led Cyber Violence Survey conducted in 2019. First, the online survey panel owned by the research company selected a sample of 1,500 adult men and women in their 20s to 50s in proportion to reflect the composition of the local population. The survey was conducted online, with male subjects and female subjects accounting for 51.5% and 48.7% of the respondents, respectively. The result of the analysis shows that the respondents' attitude towards cyberbullying was fully mediaed according to such factors as gender, age, family relations, relationship with colleagues, Internet usage time, and contact with illegal content. In addition, partial mediation was observed with regard to online delinquency colleague numbers and cyberbullying victimization. As a result, the respondents' attitude towards cyberbullying was found to be the most important factor affecting adult cyberbullying. Based on these results, this study suggests that the formation of a non-conservative attitude towards cyberbullying should be considered to be more important than any other factors when preparing programs aimed at preventing cyberbullying.
