  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of type of physical therapy (spinal stabilization exercise and manual therapy) on pain index and disability index in acute and subacute patients with low back pain (LBP). 23 patients with LBP participated and were randomly assigned. Manual therapy and spinal stabilization exercise was applied for 15-minute sessions occurred 3 sessions a week, for 4 weeks. All subjects received conservative therapy for 30-minute. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Korean version of Oswestry disability index (ODI-K) were measured before and after treatment. There was significant difference in VAS and ODI-K between before and after both treatment (p<.05). There was significant difference in change rate of VAS between manual therapy and spinal sabilization exercise (p<.05), but not in change rate of ODI-K (p>.05). Thus, it is suggested that spinal stabilization exercise is helpful to reduce pain safely in acute and subacute patients with LBP.

The subject was consisted of 369 disabled. 84.5 percent of subject did exercise regularly. There was statistically significant in cause of disability(p<.001), type of disability(p<.001), grade of disability(p<.01), education(p<.01), economic state(p<.05), aim of rehabilitation exercise (p<.001). Chance to practice exercise in subject who intend to exercise was 16.18 times high than them who have no intention(95% CI =7.45~37.14). Regular exercise intervention is needed to disabled people in community.

For the foregoing, this study collected data for about 2months from May through July 2012 targeting the disabled using Center for Independent Living and the Center for Human Right of the Disabled. As a result of research, this study revealed First, the level of self-determination right of the disabled differed meaningfully depending on the variables such as age, academic ability, existence of spouse, receiving pension, monthly income, residential type, time of occurrence of disability and disability rating, and in the level of empowerment, it showed a meaningful difference according to the factors like academic ability and disability rating. Second, the level of formation of community relation differed meaningfully according to the variables such as age, academic ability, existence of spouse, residential type, time of occurrence of disability, disability rating etc., and the level of productivity showed a meaningful difference according to the variables such as academic ability, existence of spouse, receiving pension, monthly income, multiple disabilities, disability rating etc. Third, as a result of investigation on the effect of self-determination right and empowerment of the disabled on their community relation, both self-determination right and empowerment turned out to have a meaningful and positive (+) effect on the community relation of the disabled. Fourth, as a result of investigation on the effect of self-determination right and empowerment of the disabled on their productivity, this study found that only the variable of empowerment exercises a meaningful and positive (+) influence on the productivity of the disabled. Therefore, self-determination right and empowerment are considered an important variable for enabling them to enjoy independent living in the future by strengthening community relation and productivity of the disabled. For this, it is required to fulfill social welfare and recognize the significance of self-determination right and empowerment in the process of rehabilitation, and develop as well as revitalize a variety of programs related to the above.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the application structure of customized "lifelong education: (versus) higher education" for individuals with developmental disabilities in two types. As for the research method, expert consultation was composed secondary with literature analysis as the primary procedure. The contents of the study were presented by classifying the application structure of customized lifelong education versus higher education for individuals with developmental disabilities into two types. Accordingly, the first research content is a school type-centered structure, which can be understood as a type that focuses on higher education while linking aspects of lifelong education. And the second research content is a structure centered on the type of independent life of individuals with developmental disabilities, which can be understood as a type that focuses on lifelong education while linking with the aspects of higher education. As a result of the study, the aspect that the research contents considered above can be gradually realized through the currently established infrastructure at Daegu University in the current situation in Korea has been improved.

  • While non-operative treatment with structured rehabilitation tends to be the strategy of choice in the management of Rockwood type III acromioclavicular joint injury, some advocate surgical treatment to prevent persistent pain, disability, and prominence of the distal clavicle. There is no clear consensus regarding when the surgical treatment should be indicated, and successful clinical outcomes have been reported for non-operative treatment in more than 80% of type III acromioclavicular joint injuries. Furthermore, there is no gold standard procedure for operative treatment of type III acromioclavicular joint injury, and more than 60 different procedures have been used for this purpose in clinical practice. Among these surgical techniques, recently introduced arthroscopic-assisted procedures involving a coracoclavicular suspension device are minimally invasive and have been shown to achieve successful coracoclavicular reconstruction in 80% of patients with failed conservative treatment. Taken together, currently available data indicate that successful treatment can be expected with initial conservative treatment in more than 96% of type III acromioclavicular injuries, whereas minimally invasive surgical treatments can be considered for unstable type IIIB injuries, especially in young and active patients. Further studies are needed to clarify the optimal treatment approach in patients with higher functional needs, especially in high-level athletes.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of care farming activities on the brain waves of adults with developmental disabilities from September 2022 to December 2022, with a total of 16 sessions held once a week. For 28 adults with developmental disabilities, 15 participants in the care farm program and 13 participants who did not participate were used as the control group. Before and after the care farming activities, participants' self-esteem, happiness levels, and brain function indices were measured through surveys and electroencephalography (EEG). Consequently, the self-esteem of the participants in the experimental group significantly increased after the activity, and as for the brain function index, the left brain activity index related to stress, attention, brain function, and emotional state increased compared to the control group in the experimental group of adults with developmental disabilities, especially intellectual disabilities. Notably, the effect of care farming activities was greater for women than for men with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, considering the differential effects of care farming activities based on the type of developmental disability and sex, it is deemed advantageous to primarily apply these activities to women with intellectual disabilities in order to maximize the healing effect of care farming.

  • In order to set the direction of providing facility for the utilization of castle heritage, as well as to establish the method for securing access and determine installation criteria in consideration of preservation environment, an analysis was carried out on the cases of having secured access for people with disabilities in England for the advanced utilization of castle heritage. As the result of the analysis, the planning factors of the facility for people with disabilities in England for the utilization of castle heritage were deduced as follows: 1) The plan for facility was focused on the disabled using wheelchairs and visually impaired persons, rather than on services for hearing-impaired persons and people with learning disability. 2) As for audience movement line plan, regular route was used for audience movement line to lead them in a single direction. 3) As for the provision of prior access information, 3 stepwise access grades were established for the facility information plan of heritage. 4) As for information service by disability type, models were provided; and complementary explanation was provided by using text, drawing, picture, video and voice. 5) Rest spaces were secured where audience could look out upon castle heritage. For the utilization of castle heritage, it is necessary to develop planning factors of the facility design for people with disabilities according to its characteristics.
