Carbon atoms near the surface of W(110) induce reconstructions such as $R(15{\times}12)$ -C/W(110) which consists of two characteristic parts, one square shaped and bright protrusion and two smaller ones. In the atomic resolution STM image, the bigger protrusion shows the periodicities of clean W(110), indicating that it is almost carbon poor region. The smaller protrusion contains hexagonal carbide surface layer of ${\alpha}$-W2C on W(110). Employing this carburized W(110) as templates, we grow Co and Fe clusters of less than ten atoms. Due to the selectivity of bonding sites, growth of larger cluster is highly unfavorable for Co and the size of clusters is very uniform. Since Co atoms prefer to sit on the bigger protrusion rather than smaller one, Co cluster can be arranged one-dimensionally in $R(15{\times}12)$-C/W(110) with quite uniform size distribution. However, Fe clusters sit on both sites without favored site, but still with uniform size distribution. On the other hand, Fe clusters can be grown with quasi one-dimensional order in $R(15{\times}3)$-C/W(110), which consists of only smaller protrusions. We investigate the magnetic properties of the ordered nano-sized clusters. Experiments using XMCD reveals little magnetic moment of Co cluster on $R(15{\times}12)$-C/W(110). This observation is consistent with the predictions of our first principles calculations that small Co clusters can be nonmagnetic or antiferromagnetic with low mean magnetic moment per atom.

Electronic presentations have become useful tools for surgeons, other clinicians and patients, facilitating medical and legal support and scientific research. Microsoft(R) PowerPoint is by far and away the most commonly used computer-based presentation package. Setting up surgical clinical cases with PowerPoint makes it easy to register and follow patients for the purpose of discussion of treatment plan or scientific presentations. It facilitates communication between professionals, supervising clinical cases and teaching. It is ofter useful to create a template to standardize the presentation, offered by the software through the slide master. The purpose of this paper was to show a simple and practical method for creating a Microsoft(R) PowerPoint template for use in presentations comcerning oral and maxillofacial cancer.
A 73-year-old Korean female patient with a fully edentulous mandible was planned to have five implant fixtures installed in the anterior mandible for the fixed prosthesis. After 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomographic scanning was transferred to OnDemand3D$^{(R)}$ (Cybermed Co., Seoul, Korea) software program for the virtual planning, five fixtures of MK III Groovy RP implants of Branemark System$^{(R)}$ (Nobel Biocare AB Co., Goteborg, Sweden) were installed in the anterior mandible between both mental foramens using In2Guide$^{(R)}$ (CyberMed Co., Seoul, Korea) mucosa-supported surgical template with Quick Guide Kit$^{(R)}$ (Osstem Implant Co., Seoul, Korea) systems. Fixture installations were completed successfully without any complications, such as mental nerve injury, bony bleedings, fenestrations and other unexpected events. Postoperative computed tomographic scans were aligned and fused to the planned implant, then angular and linear deviations were compared with the planned virtual implants. The mean angular deviation between the planned and actual implant axes was $3.42{\pm}1.336^{\circ}$. The mean distance between the planned and actual implant at the neck area was $0.544{\pm}0.290$ mm horizontally and $0.118{\pm}0.079$ mm vertically. The average distance between the planned and actual implant at the apex area was $1.166{\pm}0.566$ mm horizontally and $0.14{\pm}0.091$ mm vertically. These results could be considered more precise and accurate than previous reports, and even our recent results. The entire procedures of this case are reported and reviewed.

Buffer layers play an important role in the development of high critical current density coated conductor. $LaMnO_3$, $SrTiO_3$ and $BaZrO_3$ buffer layers were compatible with MgO surfaces and also provide a good template for growing high current density REBCO(RE=Rare earth) films. Systematic studies on the influences of pulsed laser deposition parameters (deposition temperature, deposition pressure, processing gas, laser energy density, etc.) on microstructure and texture properties of $LaMnO_3$, $SrTiO_3$ and $BaZrO_3$ films as buffer layer deposited on ion-beam assisted deposition MgO (IBAD_MgO) template by pulse laser deposition method, were carried out. These results will be presented together with the discussion on the possible use of this material in HTS coated conductor as buffer.

A highly transparent interfacial layer (HTIL) to enhance the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was prepared via a polymer-assisted (PA) approach. Poly(vinyl chloride)-graft-poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (PVC-g-POEM) was synthesized via atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and was used as a sacrificial template. The PVC-g-POEM graft copolymer induced partial coordination of a hydrophilic titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) sol-gel solution with the POEM domain, resulting in microphase separation, and in turn, the generation of mesopores upon calcination. These phenomena were confirmed using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-visible light transmittance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The DSSCs incorporating HTIL60/20 (consisting of a top layer with a pore size of 60 nm and a bottom layer with a pore size of 20 nm) exhibited the best overall conversion efficiency (6.36%) among the tested samples, which was 25.9% higher than that of a conventional blocking layer (BL). DSSC was further characterized using the Nyquist plot and incident-photon to electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) spectra.
Transition metal oxides formed by a single or heterogeneous combination of transition metal ions and oxygen ions have various types of crystal structures, which can be classified as layered structures and non-layered structures. With non-layered structures, it is difficult to realize a two-dimensional structure using conventional synthesis methods. In this study, we report the synthesis of cobalt oxide into wafer-scale nanosheets using a surfactant-assisted method. A monolayer of ionized surfactant at the water-air interface acts as a flexible template for direct cobalt oxide crystallization below. The nanosheets synthesized on the water surface can be easily transferred to an arbitrary substrate. In addition, the synthesizing morphological and crystal structures of the nanosheets were analyzed according to the reaction temperatures. The electrochemical properties of the synthesized nanosheets were also measured at each temperature. The nanosheets synthesized at 70 ℃ exhibited higher catalytic properties for the oxygen evolution reaction than those synthesized at other temperatures. This work suggests the possibility of changing material performance by adjusting synthesis temperature when synthesizing 2D nanomaterials using a wide range of functional oxides, resulting in improved physical properties.
Nanoporous AAO (Anodic Aluminum Oxide) membranes have many advantages as a template for variety of magnetic materials. Materials can be embedded into the pores by electrodeposition, sputtering or magnetic-field-assisted infiltration of magnetic nanoparticles. This work focuses on the fabrication of the magnetic structures in the AAO templates by electrodeposition. Our method allows the controlled growth of Co nanostructures within the porous alumina membrane in the form of dots, rods and long wires. The shape of Co nanostructures has been investigated by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The magnetic hysteresis loops of Co nanostructures were measured using SQUID at 5 K and 300 K. The magnetic properties of the Co nanostructures are proportional to their aspect ratios and can be controlled by changing the aspect ratios.
Porous ${\eta}-Al_2O_3$ was synthesized by modified sol-gel method using ionic liquid as a templating material. The addition of ionic liquid assisted to increase the surface area of alumina. However, the acidity of aluminas prepared with ionic liquids was hardly affected regardless the change of its structural properties. Among the ionic liquids used in this study, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([Bmim][$PF_6$]) was the most effective ionic liquid to produce porous ${\eta}-Al_2O_3$ particles. The catalytic performance of these aluminas has been investigated in dehydration of methanol to produce dimethyl ether. The alumina prepared with [Bmim][$PF_6$] outperformed the other aluminas except ${\eta}-Al_2O_3$ without modification in this reaction.

Ni alloy tape is electropolished to be used as a metal substrate for fabrication of IBAD (ion-Beam Assisted Deposition)-MgO texture template fur HTS coated conductor. Electropolishing is needed to obtain a very smooth surface of Ni alloy tape because the in-plane texture of templates is sensitive to the roughness of metal substrate. The critical current of YBCO coated conductor depends on the texture of YBCO that depends on the texture of the IBAD MgO layer. And so the smoothness of the metal substrate is directly related to the superconducting properties of the coated conductor. In this study, we have prepared a reel-to-reel electropolishing apparatus to polish the Ni alloy tapes for IBAD. Various electropolishing conditions were investigated to improve the surface roughness. Hastelloy tape is continuously electropolished with high polishing current density (0.5 ∼ 2 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$) and fast processing time (1 ∼ 3 min). Polished hastelloy tapes have surface roughness(RMS) of below 1 nm on a 5 ${\times}$ 5 $\mu\m^2$ from AFM and SEM.
Birnessite-type manganese dioxide (δ-MnO2) with hierarchical micro-/mesoporosity was synthesized via sacrificial graphene template approach under mild hydrothermal conditions for the first time. Graphene template was obtained by a surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) assisted liquid phase exfoliation (LPE) in water. A thin PEDOT:PSS (poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene): poly (styrene sulfonate)) layer was applied to improve electrical conductivity and rate capability of MnO2. The MnO2 (535 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and 45 F g-1 at 10 A g-1) and MnO2/PEDOT:PSS nanocomposite (550 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and 141 F g-1 at 10 A g-1) delivered electrochemical performances superior to their previously reported counterparts. An asymmetric supercapacitor, composed of MnO2/PEDOT:PSS (positive) and Fe3O4/Carbon (negative) electrodes, provided a maximum specific energy of 18 Wh kg-1 and a maximum specific power of 4.5 kW kg-1 (ΔV= 2 V, 1M Na2SO4) with 85% capacitance retention after 1000 cycles. The graphene-templated MnO2/PEDOT:PSS nanocomposite obtained by a simple and green approach promises for future energy storage applications with its remarkable capacitance, rate performance and cycling stability
