수학교사의 지식과 수업 실제와의 관계 (A Study on the Relationship between Mathematics Teachers' Knowledge and Teaching Practice)

  • In this paper, we analyze what the components of mathematics teacher` knowledge are, and find that mathematics teacher need knowledge of three areas: subject matter knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and pedagogical content knowledge. Studies of practicing teachers suggest that When teachers lack understanding in their respective disciplines, it inhibits them from providing students the best learning opportunities, but that a teacher possessing pedagogical content knowledge provides learners with multiple approaches into learning. Some teachers having sound knowledge of mathematics and students were able to respond appropriately to students' questions, design appropriate learning activities involving a variety of mathematical representations, and orchestrate mathematical discourse in the classroom. Thus, it appears that mathematics teachers' knowledge positively affect teaching and student learning..

초등교사와 예비교사의 수학 수업에 대한 신념 분석 (Analysis on the Belief about Mathematics Teaching of Elementary Preservice Teachers and Mathematics Teachers)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 학교에서 수학을 가르치고 있는 초등교사들과 교육대학교에 재학 중인 예비교사들이 수학 수업에서 수학 지도에 초점을 두는 지식과 수학적 활동에 대해 어떤 신념을 가지고 있는가를 조사 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 수학 지도에 초점을 두는 지식에 대한 15개 문항과 수학 지도에 초점을 두는 수학적 활동에 대한 19개 문항으로 구성된 설문지를 만들었고, 초등교사 114명과 예비교사 100명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 수학 지도에 초점을 두는 지식에서는 예비교사들이 개념적 지식에서 초등교사들보다 높은 점수를 나타내었고, 초등교사들은 절차적 지식과 메타 인지적 지식, 인식적 지식에서 예비교사들보다 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 그리고 수학 지도에 초점을 두는 수학적 활동에서는 지식의 표현, 지식의 생성, 지식의 심의, 지식의 발표에서 예비교사들이 초등교사들보다 높은 점수를 나타내었고, 지식(구문)의 사용에서 만 초등교사들이 예비교사들보다 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 초등교사들과 예비교사들 간에 차이가 있는가를 검증하기 위하여 독립표본 t-검정을 실시한 결과, 유의미한 차이가 나는 수학적 지식과 활동의 항목이 나타났지만, 전체적으로 예비교사들과 초등교사들은 다양한 수학적 지식과 활동을 강조하고 있었다.

  • The purpose of the study were to investigate how secondary pre-service teachers conceptualize arithmetic mean and how their conceptualization was formed for solving the problems involving arithmetic mean. As a result, pre-service teachers' conceptualization of arithmetic mean was categorized into conceptualization by "mathematical knowledge(mathematical procedural knowledge, mathematical conceptual knowledge)", "analog knowledge(fair-share, center-of-balance)", and "statistical knowledge". Most pre-service teachers conceptualized the arithmetic mean using mathematical procedural knowledge which involves the rules, algorithm, and procedures of calculating the mean. There were a few pre-service teachers who used analog or statistical knowledge to conceptualize the arithmetic mean, respectively. Finally, we identified the relationship between problem types and conceptualization of arithmetic mean.

초등교사의 분수 지식 실태 분석 (An Analysis of Elementary Teachers' Knowledge of Fraction)

  • This study investigated elementary teachers' subject matter knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge of fractions. The subject for data collection were 12 in-service elementary teachers and data were collected through written test problems. The finding imply that most elementary teachers understand fraction construct as part-whole, show low level of understanding of operator, ratio, and measurement constructions and word problem posing, using models, and developing the algorithms to divide fractions. The research results indicates that experienced teachers possess poor knowledge of fractions against novice teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate teachers'conceptions of mathematics through the conception on compositions of mathematical knowledge, the conception on structure of mathematical knowledge, the conception on status of mathematical knowledge, the conception on mathematical activity, and the conception of mathematics learning. This study reached the following conclusions: Most of teachers has more internal viewpoint than external viewpoint on the compositions, structures and status of mathematical knowledge, mathematical activity and mathematics learning.

영아 수학적 탐색활동 지원을 위한 구성주의 교사교육프로그램이 영아교사의 수학지도 관련 변인에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Constructivism-Based Teacher Education Program for Supporting Infant's Mathematical Inquiry Activity on Variables Related to Infant Teacher's Mathematics Teaching)

  • This study helps infant teachers practice a constructivism-based teacher education program that supports infant mathematical inquiry activities and examines improvements in mathematical teaching knowledge, mathematical teaching initiatives, mathematical interaction, constructivism belief and mathematical teaching efficacy. Twenty two experiment group infant teachers and twenty two comparison group infant teachers were chosen at two workforce educare centers. The experiment group infant teachers participated in 18 sessions of a constructivism teacher training program for 8 weeks, but the comparison group infant teachers did not take part in the program. Pretest and post-tests were implemented for the mathematical teaching knowledge, mathematical teaching initiatives, mathematical interactions, constructivism belief and mathematical teaching efficacy in the experiment group. Independent sample t-test and ANCOVA were tested using Windows SPSS statistics 21.0. The homogeneity test for the experiment and comparison group revealed significant differences. ANCOVA was carried out after the pretest score was controlled as a co-variance. Significant differences were indicated in mathematical teaching knowledge, mathematical teaching initiative, mathematical interaction, constructivism belief and mathematical teaching efficacy. The results indicated that a constructivism-based teacher education program to support infant mathematical inquiry activities influenced improvements in mathematical teaching knowledge, mathematical teaching initiative, mathematical interaction, constructivism belief and mathematical teaching efficacy. This study proved the effects of the program based on constructivism theory content for the knowledge, skills and attitude about infant teaching of mathematical initiatives and practiced a program of exploration, investigation, application and assessment for infant teachers. The results can help infant teachers teach mathematical exploration activities and help activate infant mathematical exploration activities.

Middle School Mathematics Teachers' Responses to a Student's Mistaken Mathematical Conjecture and Justification

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the reality of middle school mathematics teachers' subject matter knowledge for teaching mathematical conjecture and justification. Data in the study were collected through interviewing nine Chinese and ten Korean middle school mathematics teachers. The teachers responded to the question that was designed in the form of a scenario that presents a teaching task related to a geometrical topic. The teachers' oral responses were audiotaped and transcribed, and their written notes were collected. The results of the study were compared to the analysis of American and Chinese elementary and secondary teachers' responses to the same task in Ball (1988) and Ma (1999). The findings of the study suggested that teachers' approaches to explaining and demonstrating a mathematical topic were significantly influenced by their knowledge of learners and knowledge of the curriculum they teach. One of the practical implications of the study is that teachers should recognize the advantages of learning the conceptual structure of a mathematical topic. It allows the teachers to have the flexibility to come up with meaningful mathematical approaches to teaching the topic, which are comprehensible to the learners whatever the grade levels they teach, rather than rule-based algorithms.

평면도형 영역에서 Shulman-Fischbein 개념틀을 활용한 학생의 오류에 대한 예비 교사의 지식 분석 (Interpretation of Pre-service Teachers' Knowledge by Shulman-Fischbein Framework : For Students' Errors in Plane Figures)

  • 본 연구는 교사지식 중에서 예비교사의 학생에 대한 지식을 Shulman-Fischbein 개념틀을 이용하여 해석함으로써 우리의 교사교육의 현실에 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. Shulman-Fischbein 개념틀은 수학의 알고리즘적 SMK, 수학의 형식적 SMK, 수학의 직관적 SMK, 수학의 알고리즘적 PCK, 수학의 형식적 PCK, 그리고 수학의 직관적 PCK의 여섯 가지 요소로 구성되어 있다. 이를 위해 일련의 평면도형 영역의 문제를 다루고 학생의 오개념을 포함한 지필과제를 5명의 예비교사에게 제시하고 그들이 제출한 답변을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 예비교사들은 상당히 강한 SMK를 지니고 있음을 보여주었고, 수학의 형식적 측면을 강조하는 경향을 보였다. 또한 학생들의 오개념 분석 시 학생들의 수준을 깊게 고려하지 않았고, 오개념을 고치기 위한 교수학적 방법을 제안할 때에 구체적이지 못하고 피상적인 답변만을 제시하는 특징을 보여주었다.

수업을 위한 수학적 지식과 수업의 수학적 질 사이의 관계: 고등학교를 중심으로 (Relationship of mathematical knowledge for teaching and mathematical quality in instruction: Focus on high schools)

  • 본 논문은 수업을 위한 수학적 지식과 수업의 질에 대한 상관관계를 보고하는 연구이다. 선다형 평가 문항 유형의 설문지를 이용하여 교사들의 수업을 위한 수학적 지식을 수집하였고, 촬영된 그 교사들의 수업을 수학 수업 분석 도구를 이용하여 수업의 질을 평가하였다. 두 점수들의 상관관계를 통계적으로 분석하여, 유의미한 양적 상관관계가 있음을 보고한다. 또한, 수집된 수업 영상과 교사들의 인터뷰 자료의 분석을 통해 수업을 위한 수학적 지식이 중재하지 못하는 수업의 질과 관련된 요소를 찾아내었다. 이러한 결과를 기반으로 수학 교사 교육에 대해 논의한다.

미국의 선다형 문항 적용을 통한 우리나라 초등 교사의 수학을 가르치는데 필요한 지식 분석 (Adapting U.S. Multiple-choice Items to Measure Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the adaptability of U.S. multiple-choice items to measure Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) in Korea. For this purpose, the authors selected the number and operations form B which was developed by Learning Mathematics for Teaching (LMT) project at the University of Michigan and then adapted items in terms of general cultural context, school cultural context, mathematical substances, and language in Korea. The survey was administrated to 77 Korean in-service teachers who had more than three years of teaching experiences. Based on the survey, the authors compared the data to that of U.S. teachers who had participated California's Mathematics Professional Development Institute. As a result, the survey measures less knowledge Korean teachers than more knowledgable Korean teachers and there are strong correlations of relative item difficulties between Korean teachers and U.S. teachers for both Content Knowledge (CK) items and Knowledge of Content and Students (KCS) items. This study implies the future direction for developing items to measure teacher knowledge as well as designing effective teacher education programs.
