  • Lack of proper amount of sun lights and wind strength which are major factors of solar power and wind power system may cause poor electric power generation and decrease the lifetime of batteries that are major energy saving units. Because the PCS, which is essential in solar and wind power system, for small power generation system has been rarely developed an efficient and stable PCS for small power generation system is highly required. In this paper, we design a new constant current/constant voltage type hybrid PCS by which stand alone/grid connected operation with commercial power system is available and implement the designed PCS as a protype for performance verification.

  • In this paper, a test is performed to verify the mechanical durability of acoustic sensor system mounted in seabed given test specification. High system durability is required for acoustic sensor system which is costly for installation process, and is affected with various tensional loads by installation equipments. So, it is necessary to verify the system durability including its performance or lifetime in mounted environments. The list of specified tests is mainly based on UJ QTS 200 and the system mostly satisfies the test specification for electrical characteristics.

  • This study focused on the development of in-situ passivation system and characterization of OLED display. The thin film passivation process with thin film layers was investigated using in-situ passivation technique in the cluster system. Thin films of $SiO_2$, SiNx passivation were manufactured using PECVD, which enables the deposition process at room temperature. The cluster system was created to develop in-situ passivation process, which OLED and thin film were fabricated in the cluster system without exposing to the atmospheric environment. It is expected that the in-situ passivation system of OLED with organic and inorganic layer provides the leading technique to develop flexible OLED.

  • The end of design lifetime for Wolsong unit 1 will be reached on 20th November in 2012. So the license renewal documents for the continuous operation of Wolsong unit 1 is under reviewing now. Major components of primary system such as pressure tubes, feeder pipes including delayed neutron monitoring system tubing are being replaced and many components of secondary system are also being repaired. In this paper, the assessment on the wear degradation of delayed neutron monitoring system tubing(on the other hand, DN tube was called) was performed for the ageing management of the same component. The wear defects of this component was one of causes that resulted in heavy water leakage accidents. Therefore design specifications of Wolsong uint 1 and heavy water leakage accidents of pressurized heavy water reactors were reviewed and causes of wear defect for DN tubes were analyzed. Wear propagation equations based on the heavy water leakage history were made and the proper repairing time was possible to be expected if the continued operation was considered. Finally design change items of DN tubes that were conducted for the long term operation of Wolsong unit 1 are introduced.

  • In this paper, we developed the on-line Diagnostic & Monitoring system of distribution transformers using wireless communication. The Diagnostic system consists of the top oil temperature sensing, ambient temperature sensing. load current sensing, acoustic emission peak-value sensing, acoustic emission pulse counter and wireless communication part. The Monitoring system consists of the communication setting, online monitoring and database construction part. The Diagnostic system send the date acquired from the some sensors of the distribution transformers to the host PC. The Monitoring program of the host PC store the data to database. And the Monitoring system estimates the loss of life from the DB. Thus it could be managed the career and the functional lifetime of the transformer more efficiently than existing methodologies.

  • High temperature oxidation behavior of thermal barrier coating (TBC) system (IN738 substrate + NiCoCrAlY or NiAl bond coat with or without Pt + yttria stabilized zirconia) prepared by air plasma spray (APS) process has been studied in order to understand the effect of Pt addition to bond coat on the stability of TBC system. Specimens were oxidized in thermal cycling and isothermal oxidation test at $1100^{\circ}C$. The Pt addition in TBC system with NiCoCrAlY bond coat showed a longer life time compared to that without addition of Pt. Pt addition to TBC system is believed to help the formation of more stable thermally grown oxide, $Al_2O_3$, at the TBC/bond coat interface, leading to a longer lifetime of TBC system.

  • A neutronics study of a supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor core for nuclear propulsion has been performed in this work. The thermal power of the reactor core is 30 MWth and a ceramic UO2 fuel can be used to achieve a 20-year lifetime without refueling. In order to make a compact core with inherent safety features, the drum-type reactivity control system and folding-type shutdown system are adopted. In addition, we suggest a cold shutdown system using gadolinium as a spectral shift absorber (SSA) against flooding. Although there is a penalty of U-235 enrichment for the core embedded with the cold shutdown system, it effectively mitigates the increment of reactivity at the flooding of seawater. In this study, the neutronics analyses have been performed by using the continuous energy Monte Carlo Serpent 2 code with the evaluated nuclear data file ENDF/B-VII.1 Library. The supercritical CO2-cooled fast reactor core is characterized in view of important safety parameters such as the reactivity worth of reactivity control systems, fuel temperature coefficient (FTC), coolant temperature coefficient (CTC), and coolant temperature-density coefficient (CTDC). We can say that the suggested core has inherent safety features and enough flexibility for load-following operation.

  • In this paper we derive estimations of the parameters included in the distribution of the lifetime of k-out-of-m cold standby system with imperfect switches. Maximum likelihood and Bayes procedures are followed to get such estimations. Numerical studies, using Monte Carlo simulation method, are given in order to explain how we can utilize the theoretical results derived, and to compare the performance of the two different methods used. The criterion of comparisons is the mean squared errors associated with each estimate.

  • In oil-filled equipment such as transformers, partial discharge or local overheating will make insulating material(oil, kraft paper, proclain and wood) be stressed and generate many sort of gases(CO, $CO_2,\;H_2,\;C_2H_4$) which are dissolved in transformer oil. The ratio of this gas can make diagnostic tecchniques of the lifetime of transfomer so, it is important to monitoring $H_2$ gas continuously. This paper developes a system of detecting about $H_2$ gas by using $H_2$ gas sensor, and we describe operation and performance of this system.

  • Accurate quantitative forecasting of rainfall for basins with a short response time is essential to predict flash floods. In this study, a Quantitative Flood Forecasting (QFF) model was developed by incorporating the evolving structure and frequency of intense weather systems and by using neural network approach. Besides using radiosonde and rainfall data, the model also used the satellite-derived characteristics of storm systems such as tropical cyclones, mesoscale convective complex systems and convective cloud clusters as input. The convective classification and tracking system (CCATS) was used to identify and quantify storm properties such as lifetime, area, eccentricity, and track. As in standard expert prediction systems, the fundamental structure of the neural network model was learned from the hydroclimatology of the relationships between weather system, rainfall production and streamflow response in the study area. All these processes stretched leadtime up to 18 hours. The QFF model will be applied to the mid-Atlantic region of United States in a forthcoming paper.
