  • The advanced fiber-reinforced laminated composites are widely used in a variety of engineering applications such as aerospace, marine, mechanical and civil engineering for weight savings because of their high specific strength and stiffness. The material properties of ply is known to have larger variations than that of conventional materials and very sensitive to the loading direction. Therefore, it is important to consider the variations on designing the laminated composite. This paper demonstrates the importance of considering uncertainties through examining the effect of material properties variations on various design requirements such as tip deflection, natural frequency and buckling stress using COMSOL-MATLAB interface.

  • Aluminum alloys are widely utilized in diverse industries, such as automobiles, aerospace, and architecture, owing to their high specific strength and resistance to oxidation. However, to meet the increasing demands of the industry, it is necessary to design new aluminum alloys with excellent properties. Thus, a new method is required to efficiently test additively manufactured aluminum alloys with various compositions within a short period during the alloy design process. In this study, a combinatory approach using a direct energy deposition system for metal 3D printing process with a dual feeder was employed. Two types of aluminum alloy powders, namely Al6061 and Al-12Cu, were utilized for the combinatory test conducted through 3D printing. Twelve types of Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloys were manufactured during this combinatory test, and the relationship between their microstructures and properties was investigated.

A Study of Statistic Behavior of Segmental U-shaped Prestressed Concrete Girder Applied with Integrated Tensioning Systems (복합긴장방식이 적용된 세그멘탈 U형 거더 정적 거동 연구)

  • Purpose: This study verified the safety of the improved box-type girder behavior by comparing and evaluating the bending behavior results of a full-scale specimen based on the analytical behavior of the splice element PSC U-shaped girder with integrated tensioning systems. Method: Based on the results of the service and strength limit state design using the bridge design standard(limit state design method), the applied load of a 40m full-scale specimen was calculated and a static loading experiment using the four-point loading method was performed. Result: When the design load, crack load, and ultimate load were applied, the specimen deflection occurred at 97.1%, 98.5%, and 79.0% of the analytical deflection value. When the design load, crack load, and ultimate load were applied, the crack gauge was measured at 0.009~0.035mm, 0.014~0.050mm, and 6.383~5.522mm at each connection. Conclusion: The specimen behaved linear-elastically until the crack load was applied, and after cracks occurred, it showed strainhardening up to the ultimate load, and it was confirmed that the resistance of bending behavior was clearly displayed against the applied load. The cracks in the dry joints were less than 25% of grade B based on the evaluation of facility condition standard. The final residual deformation after removing the ultimate load was 0.114mm, confirming the stable behavior of the segment connection.

  • If the concrete track is settled excessively, it must be restored or reinforced immediately. Especially, reinforcement/restoration method should be applied without affecting on train operation. To deal with this problem, special equipment, process and material should be prepared. This paper suggest a special mixing ratio to restore the settled concrete track. Materials are classified the quick hardening mortar and the middle hardening mortar. The quick hardening mortar is used to restore the settled track and the middle hardening mortar is used to fill the void. These materials must have the appropriate gel time(1-40sec) and compressive strength($5kg/cm^2$). Various compounds is used and the micro cement is used as a main base.

  • It is now well recognized that the ultimate limit state approach is a much better basis for design and strength assessment of ships and offshore structures since it is difficult to determine the realistic margin of safety using the traditional allowable working stress approach on the basis of linear elastic method solutions together with buckling strengthchecks adjusted by a simple plasticity correction. This paper outlines ALPS theory for ultimate limit state assessment of ship structures. ALPS is a computer software which stands for nonlinear Analysis of Large Plated Structures. Application examples of ALPS program to ultimate limit state assessment of plates, stiffened panels and ship hull girders are presented. A benchmark study is made by a comparison with the ALPS solutions with other methods including class rule formulae, nonlinear finite element methods and experimental results. A Systematic Review of Elastic Taping Effect of Patients with Stroke

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of taping intervention in patients with stroke through a review analysis of taping interventions used to enhance physical function and activity in patients with stroke. We searched randomized controlled trials using electronic databases. We also manually reviewed sources to identify additional relevant studies. Taping intervention is an approach to treat individuals with impaired physical function and activity. Taping interventions affect body functions by providing increased muscle strength, proprioceptive sensation, and range of motion, as well as decreased rigidity and pain. Taping interventions also improve walking, balance and arm functions, such as physical activity. Taping intervention for patients with stroke has been shown to be highly effective and is therefore strongly recommended; however, it is suggested that it be further developed to improve its efficacy as an intervention method and to create additional taping methods.

  • High excess pore water pressure may develop when loose saturated sand is subjected to earthquake excitation, resulting in reduction in the shear strength and stiffness, and ultimately can result in liquefaction. It is very important to accurately assess the level of the pore pressure generation for seismic design and to perform effective stress analysis. A simple numerical 모형 is developed for estimating the development of pore water pressure due to seismic loading. The method only uses two parameters and the length of the accumulated shear strain. The accuracy of the proposed 모형 is verified through a series of laboratory test data. Comparisons show that the modified 모형 is an improvement over existing 모형s.

  • Full scale structural test of 765kv electric transmission tower was performed to measure the stresses and displacement of towers under the design loadings, and the results were compared with analytical results based on three dimensional frame analysis. Also, the actual ultimate strength of the tower was measured through destructive test. Especially, to predict the behavior and failure of the connection of tubular member, finite element analysis was performed and compression test for the segments of tubular member were carried out. Valuable information for the overall and local behavior of the tower was obtained and reliability of current analytical method was confirmed.

  • This paper is to study the mechanical behavor and structural safety of the wire-mesh half slab by an analytical method. Layer model was adopted by modelling the wire-mesh half slab as a flexural member composed of free cantilever beam and vertical supports (walls or beams). Reasonable results for the prediction of ultimate strength of the half stab at each loading direction and design recommendations for the reinforcement detail at wall(beam)-slab joints are acquired. On the other hand, ductility capacity of the wire-mesh half slab was overestimated by not considering the brittleness of wire-mesh reinforcements pre-manufactured at the form of Kaiser Truss.

  • As the vibration loads are variable and the design criteria are more strict, in this study, the dynamic characteristics of the slab is analyzed and the and the vibration is controlled for the special peculiarity of structures. First, the procedure of dynamic analysis is developed by the finite element method and then examined by using the slab model tests. Second, in order to improve the dynamic characteristics, the effects of the number of supports, material properties, position of exciting force, added mass and dynamic balance on the dynamic behavior of reinforced concrete slabs are analysed. It is concluded that the vibration can be controlled by the change in the natural frequency of system and the use of the high-strength concrete or polymer impregnated concrete (PIC), and the dynamic characteristics can be considerably affected by the arrangement of equipments, added mass, and dynamic balance, etc.
