  • The present study aimed to emprically verify the materialistic pursuits process of undergraduates by applying the escape theory of materialism(Donnelly et al., 2016). Among the six steps of Donnelly's model, the first step is percieving that the fall short of high standards of life, as measured by external contingencies of self-worth. The second step is blaming the self for falling short of standards, as measured by self-discrepancy. The third step of high aversive self-awareness is measured by low stability of self-esteem. A total of 465(203 male and 262 female) college students participated in the online survey and the model was tested using structural equation model. We found that the relationship of external contingencies of self-worth and materialism was mediated by self-discrepancy and there was a sequential mediation effect of self-discrepancy and the stability of self-esteem. The direct effect of external contingencies of self-worth on materialism was also significant. This study is meaningful in that it used the escape theory to emprically verify the materialistic pursuit process of Korean undergraduates living in a meritocratic society.

Third, there was no significant difference in lower limb isokinetic muscular strength according to the types of physical labor of middle-aged women. The self-esteem according to physical labor is caused by the sense of belonging in the workplace, and the difference between body composition and muscular strength is insignificant. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a physical activity program to promote self-esteem due to aging and prevent physical deterioration regardless of occupation.

The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$value-based reliability of this tool was 0.923 and 0.920 before and after the job participation program, respectively. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$value-based life satisfaction as measured according to Choi (1986) was 0.932 and 0.933 before and after the job participation program, respectively. Results: The hypothesis that job participation program increases self esteem was supported by the results. The mean self esteem of subjects before and after the job program, 3.31 and 3.48, respectively, represented a significant increase. • The purpose of this research is to identify the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between family social capital and self-esteem of adolescents. Five waves of panel data from the Korea Youth Panel Survey were employed for this research. Korean Adolescents Policy Research Institute collected the first wave data in 2004 from elementary school children in 4th grade. Autoregressive cross-lagged modeling was performed to analysis the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between family social capital and self-esteem. The major findings were as follows. First, stability coefficient of family social capital and self-esteem showed that both variables were significantly stable over time. Secondly family social capital(t) had statistically significant effect on self-esteem(t+1), whereas self-esteem did not predict family social capital at a statistically significant level. These findings suggest that family social capital and self-esteem is stable overtime, and that obtaining family social capital and establishing positive self-esteem is important during this period in childhood. In addition, the results show that family social capital affects self-esteem, which highlights the importance of family social capital accumulation on the development of adolescent self-esteem.

Also, this program was designed in 3 steps of observation, conversion and relation-orientation. The contents of these steps are related with this program's propriety. • This study aimed to see if as companion animals living with human beings, dogs could provide emotional stability or play a therapeutic role for human beings. Of 12 middle school boys as victims of school violence, 6 were assigned to the experimental group that was provided with an animal-assisted therapy program over a total of 12 sections, one section per week, 60 minutes per section, between September and November 2011, followed by post-test 1 and, one month later, post-test 2. In the experimental composition, the remaining 6 boys were assigned to the comparison group that was allowed to read freely. Analysis was performed by using the scales of depression and self-esteem, and the results showed that the experimental group provided with the animal-assisted therapy program generated more significant therapeutic effects than the comparison group. The therapeutic effects were found to persist one month after the completion of the program. Therefore, it is believed that sensitive adolescents who suffer from depression or have lost self-esteem because of school violence can significantly benefit from an animal-assisted therapy program by reducing the recovery time or by getting lots of help with emotional stability. Further research on the basis of this study is expected to help adolescents with emotional therapy in other areas.

To identify the appreciation and experience of information and communication technology, we have itemized mobile technology and internet technology which are the most broadly utilized technologies by the elderly, and suggested a methodology to measure the effects that information and communication technology have on their psychological stability. We surveyed more than 100 people over 55 year old in Seoul. The findings of the study showed that the group of users who use wired internet and mobile technology are less depressed and have more self-esteem than the group of non-users. It was also shown that the more skilled they are at utilizing the technology, the less feelings of depression and loneliness, and the more self-esteem they have.
