  • Several 1 A-naphthoquinone derivatives have been reported to possess many pharmacological effects such as anti-viral. anti-fungal. anti-cancer and anti-platelet activities. We have reported that 2-chloro-3-[4-(ethyICarbOxy)-phenyl]-amino-1.4-naphthoquinone(NQ12) had a potent inhibitory effect on the platelet aggregation in vitro and thrombosis in vivo.   • H$_2$O$_2$ has been shown to act as a signaling molecule involved in many cellular functions such as oxidant-induced stress, apoptosis, proliferation. In this study, we investigated the action mechanisms of H$_2$O$_2$ on activation of Extracellular Signal-Regulated Protein Kinase(ERK) in cultured feline ileal smooth muscle cells(ISMC). Western blot analysis done with phospho-specific MAP kinases antibodies demonstrated that potent activation of ERK and moderate activation of SAPK/JNK occurred within 30 min of H$_2$O$_2$ treatment. Quadrotor path planning using A* search algorithm and minimum snap trajectory generation

  • In this study, we propose a practical path planning method that combines the A* search algorithm and minimum snap trajectory generation. The A* search algorithm determines a set of waypoints to avoid collisions with surrounding obstacles from a starting to a destination point. Only essential waypoints (waypoints necessary to generate smooth trajectories) are extracted from the waypoints determined by the A* search algorithm, and an appropriate time between two adjacent waypoints is allocated. The waypoints so determined are connected by a smooth minimum snap trajectory, a dynamically executable trajectory for the quadrotor. If the generated trajectory is invalid, we methodically determine when intermediate waypoints are needed and how to insert the points to modify the trajectory. We verified the performance of the proposed method by various simulation experiments and a real-world experiment in a forested outdoor environment.

Neuromedin B modulates phosphate-induced vascular calcification

  • Vascular calcification is the heterotopic accumulation of calcium phosphate salts in the vascular tissue and is highly correlated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In this study, we found that the expression of neuromedin B (NMB) and NMB receptor is upregulated in phosphate-induced calcification of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Silencing of NMB or treatment with NMB receptor antagonist, PD168368, inhibited the phosphate-induced osteogenic differentiation of VSMCs by inhibiting Wnt/β-catenin signaling and VSMC apoptosis. PD168368 also attenuated the arterial calcification in cultured aortic rings and in a rat model of chronic kidney disease. The results of this study suggest that NMB-NMB receptor axis may have potential therapeutic value in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular calcification.

Smooth Trajectory Generation Method Using Quadratic Programming Method (이차 계획법을 활용한 부드러운 궤적 생성 방법)

  • This paper proposes a method that can generate a smooth trajectory from the discontinuous trajectory in kinematic, dynamic, and task-space trajectory constraints. The problem is defined as the minimization of kinetic energy, and then the simulation is performed by using the MATLAB. Kinematic and inverse kinematic equations are derived for the simulation of the 6-DOF robotic arm. The simulation results showed that the trajectory of each joint is generated while satisfying the constraints without any discontinuity. There are small errors in the Cartesian trajectory, but unnecessary deceleration and acceleration can be eliminated. In addition, it is possible to quickly switch between the robotic tasks by applying the proposed method.

  • During the sliding between a-CNx and $Si_3N_4$, applying nitrogen as environmental gas provided very low friction as the level of 0.01 in friction coefficient. In order to know the effect of the running-in process on the reduction of the friction, the effect of surface roughness of mating surface on friction was investigated. It was shown that smooth surface in wear scar of ball provided low friction coefficient. Friction coefficient after running-in was proportional to the Ry value of wear scar of ball. Also smooth thin transferred layer was observed on the wear scar of balls with an AFM after sliding test. Those results showed the smoothing of wear scar of ball, the generating of the transferred layer from CNx was necessary for low friction.

  • In this paper, we study the following extended generalized variational inequality problem, introduced by Noor (for short, EGVI) : Given a closed convex subset K in q-uniformly smooth Banach space B, three nonlinear mappings T : $K\;{\rightarrow}\;B^*$, g : $K\;{\rightarrow}\;K$, h : $K\;{\rightarrow}\;K$ and a vector ${\xi}\;{\in}\;B^*$, find $x\;{\in}\;K$, $h(x)\;{\in}\;K$ such that $\xi$, g(y)-h(x)> $\geq$ 0, for all $y\;{\in}\;K$, $g(y)\;{\in}\;K$. [see [2]: M. Aslam Noor, Extended general variational inequalities, Appl. Math. Lett. 22 (2009) 182-186.] By using sunny nonexpansive retraction $Q_K$ and the well-known Banach's fixed point principle, we prove existence results for solutions of (EGVI). Our results extend some recent results from the literature.

A Feature-based Approach to Compound Surface Design (특징형상을 이용한 복합곡면의 설계)

  • While many surfaces such as automobile outer panels, ship hulls and airfoils are characterized by their smooth, free-form shapes, a far larger class of functional surfaces are characterized by highly irregular, multi-featured shapes consisting of pockets, channels, ribs, etc. In constaract to the design of aesthetic, free-form surfaces, functional surface design can perhaps best be viewed as a process of assembling a collection of known component surfaces to form a single compound surface. In this paper, we presents a feature-based functional surface modeling method. A single feature involves a secondary surface, which we must join to a primary surface with a smooth transition between two boundary courves. Through recursive blending of a secondary surface with the primary surface, the mullti-featured surface is represented. After constructing a compound surface, we generate the Z-map for NC machining of the surface. Offsetting the Z-map using the inverse offsetting technique, we get CL tool paths with out gouging.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the electrical conductivity of cementitious composites as an early step to obtain shielding performance by mixing various type of steel fiber into cementitious composites, the main building material of protection facility, to shield electromagnetic pulse (EMP) damage. Fiber such as conductors as amorphous metallic fiber, hooked steel fiber, and smooth steel fiber are mixed into cementitious composites to give electrical conductivity and measure the impedance of concrete using LCR meter. By doing this, the electrical conductivity of each type of steel fiber reinforced cementitious composites (FRCC) is compared.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the effect of the length and volume fraction of smooth steel fiber on the electrical conductivity and shielding effectiveness of cementitious composites. As the length and volume fraction of the fiber increase, the movement of electrons becomes active and the formation of a conductive path becomes advantageous, thereby increasing electrical conductivity. Accordingly, the electrical conductivity and the shielding effectiveness showed a very close relationship. Thereafter, it is judged that research is needed to increase the shielding effect.
