EVALUATION OF SHEAR BEHAVIOR OF LARGE GRANULAR MATERIALS WITH DIFFERENT PARTICLE SIZES BY TRIAXIAL TEST AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION

  • Rockfill zones in CFRD consist typically of large granular materials, usually the maximum particle size up to several meters, which makes laboratory testing to determine the mechanical properties of rockfill difficult. Commonly, the design strength of the rockfills is obtained by scaling down the original rockfill materials and performing laboratory strength tests for the reduced size materials. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of particle size on the shear behavior and the strength for granular materials. A series of large-scale triaxial tests was conducted on large granular materials with the maximum particle size varying from 20 to 50mm. The test results showed that overall shear behaviors were similar between the samples with different particle sizes while there were slight differences in the magnitudes of the peak shear stress between the samples. In addition, a simulation of the granular material with the max. particle size of 20mm was performed using DEM code, $PFC^{2D}$, and compared with the test results. The deviatoric stress versus strain behaviors of experimental and numerical tests were found to be matched well up to the peak stress state.

  • 이 논문에서는, 약한 신호를 검파하는 데에 알맞도록 1부에서 얻은 순차 검파 방식의 성능을 고정 표본 검파방식, 순차 확률비 검파 방식, 끝을 자른 순차 확률비 검파 방식의 성능과 견주어 본다. 제안한 순차 검파 방식은 순차 확률비 검파 방식과 견주어 볼 때, 얼개가 같거나 덜 복잡하고 신호를 더 빠르게 검파할 때가 많다. 아울러, 제안한 순차 검파 방식은 고정 표본 검파 방식과 끝을 자른 순차 확률비 검파 방식과 견주어 얼개가 덜 복잡하거나 같고 필요한 관측수가 늘 적다.

  • 본 논문은 필라멘트 와인딩 압력용기의 섬유 강도 크기 효과에 관한 이론 해석 및 시험 결과를 제시하였다. 첫 번째로, 카본-에폭시로 필라멘트 와인딩된 여러 크기의 후프 링 시험을 수행한 결과 섬유 강도의 크기 효과가 현저하게 나타났다. 다음으로, 해석적 방법으로 와이블 최약 파손 모델과 다 단계 연속 파손 모델을 이용한 파손 해석을 수행하여 후프 링 시험 결과 및 다른 문헌의 한 방향 복합재 시험 결과와 비교하였다. 해석 결과는 시험 결과와 비교하여 현저하게 낮은 섬유 강도 값들을 나타내었다. 본 논문에서는, 길이 방향의 크기 효과를 변경한 개선형 다단계 연속 파손 이론을 제시하였다. 개선형 다단계 연속 파손 이론으로부터 구한 섬유 강도 값들은 시험 결과들과 좋은 일치를 보였다.

Nonparametric test for cointegration rank using Cholesky factor bootstrap

  • It is a long-standing issue to correctly determine the number of long-run relationships among time series processes. We revisit nonparametric test for cointegration rank and propose bootstrap refinements. Consistent with model-free nature of the tests, we make use of Cholesky factor bootstrap methods, which require weak conditions for data generating processes. Simulation studies show that the original Breitung's test have difficulty in obtaining the correct size due to dependence in cointegrated errors. Our proposed bootstrapped tests considerably mitigate size distortions and represent a complementary approach to other bootstrap refinements, including sieve methods.

  • It is expected that the size of welding defect affects the mechanical performance of welded medium density polyethylene (MDPE) pipe joints. In this study, butt fusion welded MDPE pipe joints with a single spherical or planar defect of various sizes were studied using experimental crush testing and also by finite element method. The crush test showed that the mechanical performance of crush was not affected by the size and geometry of a single welding defect when the defect size was increased to 45% of the pipe's wall thickness. The simulation results indicated that the effect of the single welding defect on the Von Mises stress distribution near the defect explained the reason of the test results.

  • Nebulizer is designed to atomize medicinal fluid for patient with small particles(0.5-$5{\mu}m$) and also able to deliver particles from devices to the lungs when patient inhales air. Several particle size measurements are currently used to size aerosol particles. The most commonly used test is the cascade impactor method in as a standard. But, other methods for comparative particle size distribution data such as the particle size range and reproducibility are acceptable. Therefore, in this study a new test methode is suggested for nonventilatory nebulizer evaluation equipment.

AIP-TiN/WC-Co계에서 WC입자크기와 Co함량이 밀착력에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the WC particle size and Co content on the adhesion property between AIP-TiN coating and WC-Co substrate)

  • TiN coating were deposited onto different WC-Co substrates using arc ion plating (AIP) technique. The structure and morphology for the deposited coating were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The adhesion behavior of the deposited TiN coating was investigated with a conventional scratch test. Effects of WC particle size and Co content on the adhesion strength between the deposited TiN coating and substrate were studied. During the scratch test, the value of critical load was dependent of WC particle size and Co content on substrate. As the WC particle size and Co content on substrate decreased, the critical load increased. The highest critical load, approximately 110N, was obtained at WC particle size of 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ and Co content of 10wt.%.

  • This paper focuses on the in-house reliability assurance plan for the bulk materials of each company. The reliability assurance needs in essence a long time and high cost for testing the materials. In order to reduce the time and cost, accelerated life test is adopted. The bulk sampling technique was used for acceptance. Design parameters might be total sample size(segments and increments}, stress level and so on. We focus on deciding the sample size by minimizing the asymptotic variance of test statistics as well as satisfying the consumer's risk. In bulk sampling, we also induce the sample size by adapting the normal life time distribution model when the variable of the lognormal life time distribution is transformed and adapted to the model. In addition, the sample size for both the segments and increments can be induced by minimizing the asymptotic variance of test statistics of the segments and increments with consumer's risk met. We can assure the reliability of the mean life and B100p life time of the bulk materials by using the calculated minimum sample size.

  • This paper reviewed the two proposed hypotheses. The first hypothesis is to test the relationship between knowledge management and incremental innovation, and the second hypothesis is to test the moderating effect of firm-size on that relationship. Data were gathered from 434 employees in service industry, and multiple regression analysis was used to test two proposed hypotheses. In the first hypothesis, it was appeared that knowledge acquisition and knowledge transfer have positive effects on all incremental innovation factors (process innovation, operation innovation, service innovation). In the second hypothesis, it was appeared that firm-size has an positive interaction effect on incremental innovation in knowledge transfer, but not in knowledge acquisition. It means that knowledge transfer has more positive effect on incremental innovation in large firm-size than in small firm-size.
