Underwater acoustic communication channel parameters consist of impulse response, delay spreading, scattering function, coherence bandwidth, frequency selective fading, coherence time and time variant magnitude fading statistics on which communication system modem and channel coding are designed. These parameters are influenced by sound velocity profile, platform motion and sea surface roughness in given acoustical oceanography condition. In this paper, channel model based on phasor, channel simulator, measurement and analysis method of channel parameters are given in a fixed source-to-receiver system and the parameters are analyzed using shallow water experimental data. For two different source-to-receiver ranges of 300 m and 600 m, the parameters are characterized by three multipaths such as a direct, a surface reflection path with time variant scattering and a bottom reflection path. The results present a channel modelling method of a fixed source source-to-receiver system, channel parameters measurement and analysis methods and a system design and performance assessment method in shallow water.

An underwater acoustic (UWA) communication in shallow water is strongly affected by the water surface and the seabed acoustical properties. Every reflected signal to receiver experiences a time-variant scattering in sea surface roughness and a grazing-angle-dependent reflection loss in bottom. Consequently, the performance of UWA communication systems is degraded, and high-speed digital communication is disrupted. If there is a dominant signal path such as a direct path, the received signal is modeled statistically as Rice fading but if not, it is modeled as Rayleigh fading. However, it has been known to be very difficult to reproduce the statistical estimation by real experimental evaluation in the sea. To give an insight for this scattering and grazing-angle-dependent bottom reflection loss effect in UWA communication, authors conduct experiments to quantify these effects. The image is transmitted using binary frequency shift keying (BFSK) modulation. The quality of the received image is shown to be affected by water surface scattering and grazing-angle-dependent bottom reflection loss. The analysis is based on the transmitter to receiver range and the receiver depth dependent image quality and bit error rate (BER). The results show that the received image quality is highly dependent on the transmitter-receiver range and receiver depth which characterizes the channel coherence bandwidth.

The electromagnectic modal analysis method for the multiscreen structure with periodic slot array with including conductor thickness effect is presented. The multiscreen structure is seen to be exactly equivalent to a microwave guide closed by phase-shift walls. From this viewpoint, the entire generalized scattering matrix of the multiscreen structure is calculated by the cascade connection of the scattering matrices obtained by the modal analysis at guide junctions and the transmission matrices of guide region. The present method is verified in comparison with the results calculated by the previous method of moment for single screen structure. As an application example of the present method, the spatial filter having multiscreen structure is designed and the interesting characteristics such as transmission and reflection coefficient versus frequency & angle are investigated.
The present paper is focused on simultaneous sorption concentration of gold (III) and silver (I) from thiocyanate solutions using high-selective anion exchanger AN-25 and subsequent separation of these ions at various concentrations of thiocarbamide (eluent). As a result, silver (I) ions are completely eluted from AN-25 and gold (III) ions remain in the resin phase and can be determined directly in the solid phase by diffuse reflection spectroscopy. It is proposed to use the sorption-spectroscopic method for Au(III) determination in aqueous solutions. The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 1-19 mg/L (sample volume is 10.0 mL) and the detection limit is 0.05 ${\mu}g/mL$. The presence of Cu(II), Co(II), Fe(II) do not hinder this determination. Au(III) was determined in industrial solutions.

Generally, it is very important to study selective coupling between cavities of the filter structure using multimode cavity resonator. In this paper, we have manufactured 5-pole bandpass filter(BPF) using dual and triple-mode cavity resonator. To do so, we have derived the formulas for coupling coefficient about coupling between TE-modes from TM/TE-mode's tangential and lognitudinal field intensities each other. To implement the Chebyshev response, the intercabity slot combining dual-mode and triple-mode is designed to couple one H-field of TE-mode parallel to slot plate. In this paper, specially it is derived the formulas for T $E_{11p}$-mode from TE-modes, and determined after obtaining location and size of intercabity slot from the equation. In this ppaer, based on this result, we designed and implmented teh bandpass filter operated at the center frequency of 14.5GHz with a Chebyshev response. For the manufactured cavity filter, dual-mode and triple-mode cavity are resonted by two orthogonal T $E_{113}$-modes, and by two orthogonal T $E_{113}$-modes and one T $M_{012}$-mode, respecitively. The 2-stage 5-pole BPF proposed in this paper has the insertion loss of -2.32dB, the reflection loss of -15dB in the passband, and the out-or-rejection of -67dB.

The multibeam surveillance radar is a state-of-art of 3D radar technology. It applies the stacked beams realized by a digital beamformer. In this paper, a hybrid compensation technique on elevation angle errors for low elevation angle targets over the sea in multipath radar environments is proposed. The proposed method can be applied to stacked beam radars. Double null algorithm based on maximum likelihood method in 3-D beamspace domain works well unless the phase difference between the two rays(direct and specular path) is close to $0^{\circ}$ and the magnitude of reflection coefficient is close to 0. To overcome these problems, we propose a hybrid compensation technique which uses the selective double null algorithm and the beam-ratio compensation technique for low-elevation errors on a log scale. Results of computer simulation show that the proposed method outperform conventional monopulse method and double null algorithm only under various multipath environments.

In this paper, we propose a scheme for designing a tunable pixel layer based on a $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) alloy thin film. We show that the phase change of GST can significantly affect the reflection characteristic when the GST film is embedded into a dielectric encapsulation layer. We investigate the appropriate positions of the GST film within the dielectric layer for high diffraction efficiency, and we prove that they are antinodes of Fabry-Perot resonance inside the dielectric layer. Using the proposed scheme, we can increase the diffraction efficiency by about ten times compared to a bare GST film pixel, and 80 times for the first-to-zeroth-order diffraction power ratio. We show that the proposed scheme can be designed alternatively for a broadband or wavelength-selective type by tuning the dielectric thickness, and we discuss a multi-phase example with a double-stack structure.
Due to their periodic helical structure, cholesteric liquid crystals (CLC) have a unique ability to selectively reflect visible light. CLC films reflecting a broad wavelength band were prepared by inducing a pitch gradient in CLC layers through a diffusion of small molecules and through a thermal mixing of cyclic siloxane CLC molecules with different pitch lengths. Various pitch gradients in the CLC cell were observed using UV/Vis spectrometer and SEM technique.
A single-mode erbium-doped fiber laser is constructed by using a intracore fiber Bragg grating and a unidirectional fiber loop mirror. The laser cavity is designed in such a way that the laser beam forms a travelling wave in the gain medium by placing the erbium-doped fiber inside the unidirectional loop and that the wavelength-selective feedback is made from the outside of the loop by a fiber grating with 0.2 nm reflection linewidth. An additional fiber ring resonator is constructed and used as an optical spectrum analyzer to observe the variation of the laser mode spectra. As the result, relatively stable single mode, single polarization output is observed for the most of the time except some mode hoppings in minute scale due to enviommental temperature variations. tions.
We demonstrate continuous-wave operation of an all-fiber thulium-holmium codoped laser operating at a wavelength of 1706.3 nm. To realize laser operation in the short-wavelength region of the emission-band edge of thulium in silica fiber, we employ fiber Bragg gratings having resonant reflection at a wavelength around 1700 nm as a wavelength-selective mirror in an all-fiber cavity scheme. We first examine the performance of the laser by adjusting the central wavelength of the in-band pump source. Although a pump source possessing a longer wavelength is observed to provide reduced laser threshold power and increased slope efficiency, because of the characteristics of spectral response in the gain fiber, we find that the optimal pump wavelength is 1565 nm to obtain maximum laser output power for a given system. We further explore the properties of the laser by varying the fiber gain length from 1 m to 1.4 m, for the purpose of power scaling. It is revealed that the laser shows optimal performance in terms of output power and slope efficiency at a gain length of 1.3 m, where we obtain a maximum output power of 249 mW for an applied pump power of 2.1 W. A maximum slope efficiency is also estimated to be 23% under these conditions.
