  • Event-driven communication protocols such as CAN(Controller Area Network) have inherent packet delays due to the contention process for the use of network medium. These delays are stochastic in nature because most packets arrive at random time instants. The stochastic property of the delay adversely influences the control system's performance in terms of stability, responsiveness and steady-state error. Another problem for safety-critical application such as brake-by-wire systems is the reliability of the communication modules that can fail abruptly. This paper deals with two methods to overcome the above problems : (i) scheduling method that can maintain packet delays under some acceptable level, and (ii) redundancy management of communication modules that prescribes dual-redundancy modules' behavior when one of them fails.

분산관리 시스템을 위한 동적 스케쥴링의 연구 (A Study on the Dynamic Scheduling for Distributed Management Systems)

  • Constructing a distributed management system has its own advantages in addressing the issue of implementing a quick responsive management system in dynamically changing environment of enterprise. We suggest a basic scheduling methodology applicable to a distributed production management system. A new concept of "flexible schedule" is introduced as a tool to accommodate dynamically changing situations of job shops. Then a search technique (referred to as CSP-CBA search) is presented to obtain such a schedule for the job shop scheduling problem, which is converted into a constraint satisfaction problem(CSP), by using the constraint based analysis(CBA). This approach is tested on more than 100 test problems. The results show that the suggested approach required shorter CPU time and solved more problems in given time than another fixed schedule method.

  • This paper presents a heuristic algorithm for a multidepot aircraft scheduling and crew scheduling with deal-head flights. This algorithm is extended from a Greedy heuristic algorithm for a multi-depot multi-salesman traveling salesman problem. We first transform a given flight schedule into a multi-depot multi-traveling salesman problem, considering aircraft flight policies and crew management constraints. Then we solve this problem by applying a modified Greedy heuristic algorithm.

  • In 3rd-generation mobile communication systems providing packet service, optimal scheduling algorithms we needed to increase service efficiency. In this paper, three scheduling algorithms (SP, EDF, and RPQ) which have been studied in the field of computer networks are applied with transmit power constraint to an interference-limited CDMA system, proving to be efficient.

  • In order to solve scheduling, many techniques including optimization and heuristics methods have been proposed. However, these conventional approaches are usually inadequate to obtain a satisfactory solution because of a NP-Complete which requires extensive computation effort. The aim of this paper is to develop an expert system for job shop scheduling using an AI technique. Through this system, the user can choose one of several performances. If one performance is chosen, then the system solves a scheduling in order to satisfy that performance. Then, this system decides urgent job. This system can utilize production resources efficiently and minimize work-in-process inventories and tardy jobs.

Extended Proportional Fair Scheduling for Statistical QoS Guarantee in Wireless Networks

  • Opportunistic scheduling provides the capability of resource management in wireless networks by taking advantage of multiuser diversity and by allowing delay variation in delivering data packets. It generally aims to maximize system throughput or guarantee fairness and quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we develop an extended proportional fair (PF) scheduling policy that can statistically guarantee three kinds of QoS. The scheduling policy is derived by solving the optimization problems in an ideal system according to QoS constraints. We prove that the practical version of the scheduling policy is optimal in opportunistic scheduling systems. As each scheduling policy has some parameters, we also consider practical parameter adaptation algorithms that require low implementation complexity and show their convergences mathematically. Through simulations, we confirm that our proposed schedulers show good fairness performance in addition to guaranteeing each user's QoS requirements.

  • 본 논문에서는 패킷 데이터 서비스를 지원하는 DS/CDMA 시스템에서 역방향 링크의 대기 패킷 버스트들이 겪는 평균 전송 시간을 최소화하기 위한 여러 가지 패킷 스캐줄링 방식을 비교 분석하였다. 모든 활성화된 데이터 사용자들이 동시에 전송을 하는 경우의 최적의 스케줄링 방식에 대하여 논하고 기존의 여러 가지 다른 전송률 스케줄링 방식들과의 수학적인 비교 분석을 통하여 평균 전송 지연을 고려한 전송률 스케줄링 방식의 효율적인 지표를 제시하였다.

  • Traditionally, the problems of manufacturing technology and manufacturing management have been treated independently. In this research, we endeavor to integrate the process planning and scheduling activities as an attempt to integrate the two realms. To draw up a plan of process planning and scheduling in real manufacturing environment is not an easy task because available time to plan could be limited and the shop status could change frequently. So we propose an architecture of integrated process planing and scheduling problem within the allowed time even if sheep situations change rather frequently. We argue that we can obtain a better and practical scheduling solution by dynamically changing the processing machines and operations as the shop condition changes. The proposed system takes the initial information for alternative machines and operations represented by an AND/OR graph as its input. Other informational inputs to the system are part order and shop statues. The system then generates new process plan and schedules during permitted time. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme provides a viable solution for real world scheduling problems.

  • This study proposes a systems engineering approach for the development of an advanced planning & scheduling (APS) system for a cosmetic case manufacturing factory. The APS system makes production plans and schedules based on the injection process, which consists of 27 plastic injection machines in parallel to control recommended inventory of products. The system uses machine operation/failure information and defective product/work-in-process tracking information to support intelligent scheduling. Furthermore, a genetic algorithm model is applied to handle the complexity of heuristic rules and machine/quality constraints in this process. As a result of the development, the recommended inventory compliance rate is improved by scheduling the 30-day production plan for 15 main products.

  • Grid computing is widely applicable to various fields of industry including process control and manufacturing, military command and control, transportation management, and so on. In a viewpoint of application area, grid computing can be classified to three aspects that are computational grid, data grid and access grid. This paper focuses on computational grid which handles complex and large-scale computing problems. Computational grid is characterized by system dynamics which handles a variety of processors and jobs on continuous time. To solve problems of system complexity and reliability due to complex system dynamics, computational grid needs scheduling policies that allocate various jobs to proper processors and decide processing orders of allocated jobs. This paper proposes the service prediction-based job scheduling model and present its algorithm that is applicable for computational grid. The service prediction-based job scheduling model can minimize overall system execution time since the model predicts a processing time of each processing component and distributes a job to processing component with minimum processing time. This paper implements the job scheduling model on the DEVSJAVA modeling and simulation environment and simulates with a case study to evaluate its efficiency and reliability Empirical results, which are compared to the conventional scheduling policies such as the random scheduling and the round-robin scheduling, show the usefulness of service prediction-based job scheduling.
