In this study, two representative measures in the job-focused approach and the employee-focused approach of emotional labor are explored to examine dimensionality and the predictability of each emotional labor measure on key consequences that include job stress, customer orientation, and job satisfaction. Data obtained from 193 department store apparel saleswomen were submitted for analysis. The results show that the emotional dissonance and emotional effort of the Kruml and Geddes measure are good predictors for job stress, customer orientation, and job satisfaction. In a test of the Davies measure, job stress is predicted by emotional dissonance and frequency while customer orientation is predicted by duration, variety, and the frequency of emotional expression in jobs. Duration is also a key predictor for job satisfaction. The result confirm the dimensionality and predictability of two emotional labor measures as well as suggests the need for the careful selection and refinement of appropriate measures according to consequences.

The purpose of this study is to propose a model of private brands proneness form-ation considering the six private brands proneness-related variables simultaneously. Since the theoretical framework is based on previous research in various areas, it serves as an integrative one. Data were collected via intercept surveys conducted at nine regional branches of two major department stores situated in Seoul. Participants(n=1,120), who had previously purchased women's private brand apparel, were asked to complete a questionnaire during two weeks from March 15, 1999 to March 28, 1999. LISREL and SPSS PC+ were used to test the model and analyze its variables. The fitness of the model show the reasonable fit between all indices(RMSR=.036, GFI=.99, AGFI=.92, and NFI=.95). The proposed model supports all the hypothesized relationships. Private brands proneness increases as perceived money value of products, familiarity, positive store image of private brands, and satisfaction of individuals' differentiated needs increase. Furthermore, perceived money value of products increase as perceived risk of private brand purchase and perceived quality variation between private brand products and manufacture's products decrease.

This study presents a case of a visual merchandising course adopting a problem-based learning (PBL) model, as a part of shop manager training program for high school students. Various vocational training classes are actively developed for vocational high schools, yet programs in the home economics area are relatively lacking. In particular, education programs for shop manager training are urgently required due to the high demand of this job in the fashion industry. The PBL model, which reflects constructionist learning theory, is considered for this visual merchandising course in order to help develop the ability of students to creatively apply their knowledge on real-world problems through self-driven learning. For the purpose of job analysis, two problem areas were identified through interviews conducted with shop managers who work for apparel shops in department stores. Based on the results of the interviews, professors and high school teachers developed two PBL instructional modules. The developed module courses were implemented with 2 classes of vocational high school students. The learning outcome was examined through the analysis of a student survey and reflection journals. It was apparent that the PBL courses effectively attracted the interests of learners in vocational training and improved their understanding of the contents as well as cooperation skills. The results of this study indicate that implementing the PBL model for the training of store managers can contribute to the vocational training programs for high school students.
