  • A simultaneous analytical, experimental and numerical analysis of crack initiation, propagation and breaking process of the Central Straight through Crack Brazilian Disk (CSCBD) specimens under diametrical compression is carried out. Brazilian disc tests are being accomplished to evaluate the fracturing process based on stress intensity factors (SIFs). The effects of crack inclination angle and crack length on the fracturing processes have been investigated. The same experimental specimens have been numerically modeled by a higher order indirect boundary element method (HDDM). These numerical results are compared with the existing experimental results proving the accuracy and validity of the proposed numerical method.

  • To ensure the reliability of ultrasonic nondestructive testing techniques for modern structural materials, the effects of anisotropy and inhomogeneity and the influence of non-planar component geometries on ultrasonic wave propagation have to be taken into account. In this article, fundamentals and applications of two analytical approaches to three-dimensional elastic beam field calculation are presented. Results for both isotropic materials including curved interfaces and for anisotropic media like composites are presented, covering field profiles for various types of transducers and the modeling of time-dependent rf-signals.

  • Spot welding has been used in the sheet metal jointing processes because of its high productivity and convenience. In this study, effects of welding conditions on the fatigue life and prediction methods of fatigue life of spot welded joint have been studded . Fatigue life was estimated by stress index parameter considering multiaxial stresses. Fatigue tests were conducted with the tensile-shear specimens using SPCC. Fatigue life of spot welded joint was influenced by welding currents and was predicted exactly with taking into account StageIII.

  • A large diameter slot waveguide made backward wave oscillator is investigated experimentally. The parameters of slow wave structure are chosen so that the oscillation frequency is about 20 GHz. Plasma is produced by the beam and it has favorable effects on beam propagation and Cherncov oscillation. The output power strongly enhanced when the guiding magnetic field approaches to the fundamental electron cyclotron resonance.

  • The effects of nuclear data uncertainties are studied on a typical PWR fuel assembly model in the framework of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency UAM (Uncertainty Analysis in Modeling) expert working group. The "Fast Total Monte Carlo" method is applied on a model for the Monte Carlo transport and burnup code SERPENT. Uncertainties on $k_{\infty}$, reaction rates, two-group cross sections, inventory and local pin power density during burnup are obtained, due to transport cross sections for the actinides and fission products, fission yields and thermal scattering data.

  • The transmission line effects of IC interconnects have a substantial effect on a hish-speed VLSI circuit performance. The effective transmission lime parameters are changed with the increase of the operation frequency because of the skin of the skin effect, proximity effect, and silicon substrate. A new signal delay estimation methodology based on the RLC-distributed circuit model is presented [2]. The methodology is demonstrated by using SPICE simulation and a high-frequency experiment technique.

  • The aim of this research is to investigate and to compare the shear strengthening effects of steel plates and glass fiber sheets(GFS). Shear damaged beams were repaired by steel plates and GFS. Thickness of steel plates and strengthening type of GFS were taken as the parameters. With loading, the development and propagation of cracks, failure mode and deformation of strengthening materials were checked. The ultimate load was compared with formulas proposed by previous researchers.

  • Tool wear monitoring is very important aspect in metal cutting because tool wear effects quarity and precision of workpiece, tool life etc. In this study we detected force signal through tool dynamometer in turning and using it we conducted 6th AR modeling and fractal analysis. Finally the back-propagation model of the neural network is utilized to monitor tool wear and features are extracted through AR model and fractal analysis.

Statistical instability of the ramp discharge and the role of exoemission, nature of striations during sustain discharge, physical mechanism responsible for the propagation of the cathode ionization wave, and line loading effects are just a few examples when simulations can be successfully used.

  • The effects of railway vibration on nearby structures or equipment become severe with increasing the train speed and they may be also sufficiently intense to annoy the recipients. Often, the cost of the postcautionary measures may be more expensive than that of the precautionary ones to eliminate potential problems. This paper presents the Boundary Element approach for the evaluation of the dynamic response (in the form of the compliance matrix) of sleeper which can be used to predict the change of the vibration level.
