  • With the increasing use of drone technology, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is now being utilized in various fields. However, this increased use of drones has resulted in various issues. Due to its small size, the drone is difficult to detect with radar or optical equipment, so acoustical tracking methods have been recently applied. In this paper, a method of localization of multiple drones using the acoustic characteristics of the quadcopter drone is suggested. Because the acoustic characteristics induced by each rotor are differentiated depending on the type of drone and its movement state, the sound source of the drone can be reconstructed by spatially clustering the results of the estimated positions of the blade passing frequency and its harmonic sound source. The reconstructed sound sources are utilized to finally determine the location of multiple-drone sound sources by applying the source localization algorithm. An experiment is conducted to analyze the acoustic characteristics of the test quadcopter drones, and the simulations for three different types of drones are conducted to localize the multiple drones based on the measured acoustic signals. The test result shows that the location of multiple drones can be estimated by utilizing the acoustic characteristics of the drone. Also, one can see that the clarity of the separated drone sound source and the source localization algorithm affect the accuracy of the localization for multiple-drone sound sources.

  • Purpose To investigate the effect of patient positioning on tendinosis grade, visible range, and infraspinatus tendon (IST) thickness, and to determine the feasibility of internal rotation (IR) position to assess IST on ultrasound (US). Materials and Methods This study included 52 shoulders of 48 subjects who were evaluated for IST in three different positions: neutral position (N), IR, and position with the ipsilateral hand on the contralateral shoulder (HC). Two radiologists retrospectively graded IST tendinosis from grade 0 to grade 3 and the visible range from grade 1 to grade 4. The thickness of the IST was measured by another radiologist with a short-axis view. A generalized estimating equation was used for statistical analysis. Results The tendinosis grades were higher in the HC position than in the IR position, with a cumulative odds ratio of 2.087 (p = 0.004, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.268-3.433). The tendinosis grades in the HC position (p = 0.370) and IR position (p = 0.146) were not significantly different from those in the N position. The overall difference in IST thickness was significant (p < 0.001), but the visible range (p = 0.530) was not significantly different according to position. Conclusion Patient positioning significantly affected the grade of tendinosis and thickness but not the visible range of the IST. The IR position is a feasible position for assessing the IST on US.

  • In this paper, large scale experimental model tests were performed to investigate the distribution of earth pressure acting on embedded rigid pipes having different bedding conditions. For these tests, very light weighted EPS blocks were installed at top and bottom of the rigid pipe and Jumunjin Standard Sand was used as a ground material. As results of model tests, for the case of no bedding on the pipe, the measured pressure at the bottom of the pipe was $4.96_{tf/m^2}$ whereas they were in the range of $1.87{\sim}4.96_{tf/m^2}$ in the case of EPS beddings being installed at the top and the bottom of the pipe. Therefore, for the case of EPS bedding being installed, the ratio of reduced pressures acting on the pipe, compared with the case of no EPS beddings, were in the rage of 16~62%. As a result of parametric test with changing the locations of EPS bedding, the trend of reducing the stress acting on the pipe was in the order of bottom bedding, top bedding, and top and bottom bedding. Effect of bedding positions on the reduced magnitude of acting pressure on the pipe was more significant in the case of top bedding than in the case of the bottom bedding.

  • The aim of this study is to propose the introduction of narrative description as an improvement to describing archives, thereby enhancing the user experience of archives. To achieve this, the study identifies the specific forms and positions of narrative elements in archives and analyzes the interaction between archival description and narrative elements. It also examines cases where narrative description has been applied in digital archives to analyze their purposes and identify the various types and characteristics of narrative description for the improvement of description and considering factors that should be taken into account when implementing narrative descriptions. Theoretical research explores the concept and role of narrative and analyzes how it is manifested in describing archives. Case studies investigate the types of narrative description in digital archives and explore their roles. Narrative description emphasizes that it can facilitate implementation by establishing the narrative identity of archivists as context constructors, conducting extensive and deep research on records, and planning collaborations with experts. However, due to the lack of concrete implementation plans for narrative description in the practical archives, further research is needed to develop models of narrative description and prepare various examples of narrative applications.

  • Photo booths have traditionally provided a fun and easy way to capture and print photos to cherish memories. These booths allow individuals to capture their desired poses and props, sharing memories with friends and family. To enable diverse expressions, generative AI-powered photo booths have emerged. However, existing AI photo booths face challenges such as difficulty in taking group photos, inability to accurately reflect user's poses, and the challenge of applying different concepts to individual subjects. To tackle these issues, we present CINEMAPIC, a photo booth system that allows users to freely choose poses, positions, and concepts for their photos. The system workflow includes three main steps: pre-processing, generation, and post-processing to apply individualized concepts. To produce high-quality group photos, the system generates a transparent image for each character and enhances the backdrop-composited image through a small number of denoising steps. The workflow is accelerated by applying an optimized diffusion model and GPU parallelization. The system was implemented as a prototype, and its effectiveness was validated through a user study and a large-scale pilot operation involving approximately 400 users. The results showed a significant preference for the proposed system over existing methods, confirming its potential for real-world photo booth applications. The proposed CINEMAPIC photo booth is expected to lead the way in a more creative and differentiated market, with potential for widespread application in various fields.

  • Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is a pathogenic bacterium responsible for bacterial blight (BB) disease in rice, primarily mediated by the interaction between the plant and pathogen. The virulence mechanism involves the activation of the Sugars Will Eventually be Exported Transporter (SWEET) gene family in rice by transcription activator-like effectors derived from Xoo. The BB resistance gene xa5 has been identified as one of the most effective genes against Thai Xoo isolates, but xa5-mediated resistance-breaking Xoo strains have emerged. This study aimed to develop a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) marker for precise identification of xa5-mediated resistance-breaking Xoo. Comparative genomics of Thai Xoo isolates Xoo16PK001 and Xoo16PK002, which were incompatible and compatible with rice variety IRBB5 carrying xa5, respectively, identified eight SNP positions for the development of an SNP marker. The SNP marker XooE6 yields a specific 1,143 bp PCR product unique to Xoo16PK002. Screening 61 Thai isolates using XooE6 identified two positives: Xoo20PL010 and Xoo20UT002. Inoculation tests on rice varieties IRBB5 and IRBB13 demonstrated compatibility with IRBB5 and incompatibility with IRBB13, which bears Xa5 and xa13. Xoo16PK001 (XooE6-negative) showed different virulence. Inoculation on IRBB21 harboring Xa5, Xa13, and Xa21 resulted in partial resistance to both XooE6-positive and -negative strains. XooE6-positive strains up-regulated SWEET11 and suppressed SWEET14 in IRBB5, while Xoo16PK001 slightly induced SWEET11 but activated SWEET14 in IRBB13. This highlights the potential of XooE6 to identify xa5-mediated resistance-breaking Xoo strains and elucidate their pathogenic mechanisms through the upregulation of SWEET11.

  • An analytic solution for the interaction between an array of circular piles made by joining trapezoid steel pipes (TSP) and waves was obtained using an eigenfunction expansion method. First, an analytic model for the wave scattering of multiple piles fixed at arbitrary positions was derived, and then a simplified model was obtained assuming that an infinite array of identical piles were deployed perpendicular to the propagating direc- tion of incident waves. A regular wave experiment was conducted using an experimental model with a scale ratio of 1/100 in a two-dimensional wave tank to verify the analytic solutions. The analytic results and experimental results were qualitatively consistent with each other. Using a developed analytic model, we examined the wave force on the multiple piles and the wave deformation in front of the arrayed piles. The period for the installation is greatly reduced as the TSP pile can be prefabricated in a factory. In particular, it is possible to install at the soft seabed. A seawall structure using arrayed TSP piles will be an ideal complement for a concrete seawall in future.

  • This study analyzed the determinants of employment of regular workers by firm size by merging statistical office survey(2006~2015), The results are as follows. First, as a result of the panel regression analysis, the labor income distribution, operating profit, sales, and R & D variables significantly increase employment, while the outsourcing cost, wage, capital intensity, and temporary employment decrease. However, wage variables of firms with minimum wage did not have a significant effect. Second, as a result of estimating the determinants of employment for regular workers by firm size, the variables of labor income distribution as a key variable had a significant positive impact only on SMEs, and the outsourcing cost ratio had a significant negative impact on both SMEs and large corporations. Third, as a result of estimating employment decision factors of SMEs and large enterprises by industry classification, both labor share(+) and outsourcing expense(-) are significant only in manufacturing industry, The higher the distribution ratio, the higher the employment rate, and the higher the cost of outsourcing, the lower the employment of regular workers. Employment impacts were greater for both SMEs. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen policies on labor income distribution, operating profit, sales, R & D investment, etc., which are analyzed as having a positive influence in order to constantly employ regular job positions at the enterprise level. As the impact on employment varies depending on the size of industry and type of industry, it is necessary to adopt a job policy for each characteristic.

  • X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy can provide qualitative insights into the coordination chemistry of calcium (Ca) across a variety of geological materials. However, systematic studies on Ca K-edge XANES spectral features and the Ca coordination parameters are rare. This study investigated potential correlations between the spectral features of Ca K-edge XANES and the coordination parameters of Ca for selected Ca-bearing minerals (anorthite, aragonite, calcite, diopside, dolomite, grossular, monohydrocalcite, perovskite, and wollastonite), employing density functional theory (DFT) calculations. DFT calculations accurately reproduced the main features of their experimental Ca K-edge XANES spectra for representative silicates, carbonates, and titanates. No strong correlation was observed between XANES peak positions vs. Ca-O distances (or Ca coordination numbers). However, a significant correlation was noted between the peak intensity of post-edge peaks vs. the effective coordination number of Ca in minerals of similar chemical compositions. These results show the potential, yet limited, applicability of XANES spectra for molecular-level research of Ca-bearing geomaterials, and highlight the critical role of DFT computations in interpretating XANES spectra.
