  • To know the effects of weeding periods (weeding from 12 days, 28 days and 42 days after seeding to harvest, and weeding from seeding to 14 days, 28 days and 42 days after seeding) and growing conditions such as transparent polyethylene film mulch (P.E. mulch) and bare soil on growth and yield of peanuts, "Yeongho-Tangkong" was planted on May 10, 1984. Under P.E. mulch, the number of weeds was higher, but the weed dry weight was lower than in bare soil by the middle of July. Sixty days after seedings, the length of main stems in weedy check plots was longer, but shoot dry weight was lower compared to weed free plot. In the correlation coefficients between weed dry weight and the shoot dry weight of peanut on July 14, the growth retardation of peanuts due to weeds was showed earlier under P.E. mulch than in bare soil. Shoot dry weight, shelling ratio, number of seeds per pod, 100 pod weight, and seed yield were higher under P.E, mulch compared to bare soil. But weed dry weight, length of branches, number of pod bearing branches, number of pods per square meters, and pod yield were similar between P.E. mulch and bare soil. Shoot dry weight of peanuts, length of branches, number of pod bearing branches, number of pods per square meters, pod yield, 100 pod weight, 100 seed weight, and seed yield in weed free plots from 28 days after seeding to harvest (28 DAS-Harvest) were higher compared to weed free plots from 42 DAS-Harvest. However, in the weed free plot from seeding to 42 days after seeding seed yield was lower than that of the continuous weeding plot due to lower number of pod bearing branches and number of pods per square meters. When weed was not controlled at the later growth stages of peanuts, reduction in seed yield due to weeds was greater in bare soil than that under P.E. mulch.

  • An imaginary bicyclic biquadratic number field K is a field of the form ${\mathbb{Q}}({\sqrt{-m}},{\sqrt{-n}})$ where m and n are squarefree positive integers. The ideal class number hK of K is the order of the abelian group IK/PK, where IK and PK are the groups of fractional and principal fractional ideals in the ring of integers 𝒪K of K, respectively. This provides a measure on how far is 𝒪K from being a PID. We determine all imaginary bicyclic biquadratic number fields with class number 5. We show there are exactly 243 such fields.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors influencing endoscopy nurses' protective behavior against radiation exposure. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 122 endoscopy nurses in 21 hospitals located in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and six metropolitan cities in Korea. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program and included multiple regression analysis. Results: 1) There were significant relationships between protective behavior and protective environment (r=.74, p<.001), number of education sessions on radiation protection (r=.32, p<.001), number of protective devices (r=.28, p=.002), number of fellow nurses (r=.27, p=.003), and protective attitude (r=.18, p=.048). 2) Protective environment (${\beta}=0.79$, p<.001), type of hospital foundation (${\beta}=0.18$, p=.011) and marital status (${\beta}=-0.13$, p=.040) significantly predicted endoscopy nurses' protective behavior against radiation exposure (adjusted R square=.58, p<.001). The most powerful predictor for protective behavior against radiation exposure was a protective environment. Conclusion: Effective protective behavior of endoscopy nurses from radiation exposure requires improvement in their protective environment. Hospital administrators and managers should make efforts to increase protective facilities in endoscopy departments and provide endoscopy nurses with regular education on radiation protection.

  • Let $E_A^B$ denote the elliptic curve $E_A^B:y^2=x^3+Ax+B$. In this paper, we calculate the number of points on elliptic curves $E_A^0:y^2=x^3+Ax$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$ mod 24. For example, if $p{\equiv}1$ (mod 24) is a prime, $3t^2{\equiv}1$ (mod p) and A(-1 + 2t) is a quartic residue modulo p, then the number of points in $E_A^0:y^2=x^3+Ax$ is congruent to 0 modulo 24.

  • A pebbling move on a connected graph G is taking two pebbles off of one vertex and placing one of them on an adjacent vertex. For a connected graph G, $G^p$ (p > 1) is the graph obtained from G by adding the edges (u, v) to G whenever 2 $\leq$ dist(u, v) $\leq$ p in G. And the pebbling exponent of a graph G to be the least power of p such that the pebbling number of $G^p$ is equal to the number of vertices of G. We compute the pebbling number of fourth power of paths so that the pebbling exponents of some paths are calculated.

  • Purpose: The present study compared the difference between intraoperative transrectal ultrasound (iTRUS)-based prostate volume and preplan computed tomography (CT), preplan magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based prostate volume to estimate the number of seeds needed for appropriate dose coverage in permanent brachytherapy for prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: Between March 2007 and March 2011, among 112 patients who underwent permanent brachytherapy with $^{125}I$, 60 image scans of 56 patients who underwent preplan CT (pCT) or preplan MRI (pMRI) within 2 months before brachytherapy were retrospectively reviewed. Twenty-four cases among 30 cases with pCT and 26 cases among 30 cases with pMRI received neoadjuvant hormone therapy (NHT). In 34 cases, NHT started after acquisition of preplan image. The median duration of NHT after preplan image acquisition was 17 and 21 days for cases with pCT and pMRI, respectively. The prostate volume calculated by different modalities was compared. And retrospective planning with iTRUS image was performed to estimate the number of $^{125}I$ seed required to obtain recommended dose distribution according to prostate volume. Results: The mean difference in prostate volume was 9.05 mL between the pCT and iTRUS and 6.84 mL between the pMRI and iTRUS. The prostate volume was roughly overestimated by 1.36 times with pCT and by 1.33 times with pMRI. For 34 cases which received NHT after image acquisition, the prostate volume was roughly overestimated by 1.45 times with pCT and by 1.37 times with pMRI. A statistically significant difference was found between preplan image-based volume and iTRUS-based volume (p<0.001). The median number of wasted seeds is approximately 13, when the pCT or pMRI volume was accepted without modification to assess the required number of seeds for brachytherapy. Conclusion: pCT-based volume and pMRI-based volume tended to overestimate prostate volume in comparison to iTRUS-based volume. To reduce wasted seeds and cost of the brachytherapy, we should take the volume discrepancy into account when we estimate the number of $^{125}I$ seeds for permanent brachytherapy.
