  • In this paper, it is required that the next generation wireless transmission system can support a large number of users without distortion of transmission signal with high data rate in various different propagation environment while using limited resources as efficiently as possible, and therefore an efficient transmission system is continuously required. Because of the large amount of data to be handled in a limited frequency band, a very complex digital modulation scheme is adopted. the linearity of the power amplifier determines the linearity of the entire communication system, and thus a linear amplifier is required. In cognitive radion systems, there is a power control issue in the relationship between primary and secondary users. This problem is solved by simulating the communication system so as to select the cognitive radio power while power control while overcoming linearity by using feed-forward PA.

  • This paper reports that the Lambert W function applies to a non-iterative design of minimum mean square-error scalar quantizers for a Laplacian source. Specifically, it considers a non-iterative design algorithm for optimum quantizers for a Laplacian source; it finds that the solution of the recursive nonlinear equation in the non-iterative design is elegantly expressed in term of the principal branch of the Lambert W function in a closed form; and it proves that the non-iterative algorithm applies only to exponential or Laplacian sources. The contribution of the paper is in the reduction of the time needed for the design and the increased accuracy in resulting quantization points and thresholds, because the algorithm is non-iterative and the Lambert W function can be evaluated as accurately as desired. Also, numerical results show how optimal quantization distortion converges monotonically to the Panter-Dite constant and help derive an approximation formula for the key parameters of optimum quantizers.

  • In noisy environments, human speech productions are influenced by noises(Lombard effect), and speech signals are contaminated. These distortions dramatically reduce the performance of speech recognition systems. This paper proposes a method of the Lombard effect compensation and noise suppression in order to improve speech recognition performance in noise environments. To estimate the intensity of the Lombard effect which is a nonlinear distortion depending on the ambient noise levels, speakers, and phonetic units, we formulate the measure of the Lombard effect level based on the acoustic speech signal, and the measure is used to compensate the Lombard effect. The distortions of speech under noisy environments are cancelled out as follows. First, spectral subtraction and band-pass filtering are used to cancel out noise. Second, energy nomalization is proposed to cancel out the variation of vocal intensity by the Lombard effect. Finally, the Lombard effect level controls the transform which converts Lombard speech cepstrum to clean speech cepstrum. The proposed method was validated on 50 korean word recognition. Average recognition rates were 82.6%, 95.7%, 97.6% with the proposed method, while 46.3%, 75.5%, 87.4% without any compensation at SNR 0, 10, 20 dB, respectively.

  • This paper relates with the robustness performance improvement of QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm based on the dithering in order to reduce the intersymbol interference by nonlinear distortion occurs at channel. The QE-MMA was appeared for the easiness of H/W implementation in place of multiplication to shifting in the tap coefficient updates applying the power-of-two operation to the magnitude of error signal in currently SE-MMA, it's performance were degraded by this. For improving it's performance, the proposed DQE-MMA adds the dither signal which has constant statistical characteristics in the prestage of power-of-two operation. It was confirmed by simulation that the DQE-MMA gives better robustness performance than current QE-MMA in the same channel and signal to noise ratio.

  • A flexible dispersion-managed link configuration is proposed by using single-mode fibers (SMFs) and dispersion-compensating fibers (DCFs) with irregular dispersion coefficients and lengths over all fiber spans for compensating of WDM channels distortion due to the group velocity dispersion and nonlinear effects of optical fibers. The flexibility of link is enabled by artificially distributing of these fibers based on the dispersion coefficients of DCFs in each half transmission section. The simultaneous ascending and descending (AD) distribution of the DCF's coefficients before and after the optical phase conjugator, respectively, best compensates the distorted wavelength division multiplexed signals in the optical link. Therefore, to improve the compensation effect of the distorted WDM channels, AD distribution is needed to choice regardless of fiber lengths and the residual dispersion per span and fiber's dispersion coefficients.

  • Optical phase conjugation combining with dispersion management (DM) is promising technique to compensate for signal distortion due to chromatic dispersion and nonlinear Kerr effects of single mode fiber (SMF) in optical communication systems. However the fixed SMF length in every fiber spans usually used in the optical links with optical phase conjugator(OPC) and DM restricts the flexible link configuration. The goal of this paper is to investigate the possibility of the flexible configurations of the ultra-high and long-haul optical transmission systems by using the random distribution of SMF length of each fiber spans consisted of the optical link. It is confirmed that the excellent compensation for the distorted wavelength division multiplexing signals in the optical links with the randomly distribution is obtained in case of the shorter averaged SMF length over all fiber spans. It is also confirmed that the control method of net residual dispersion suitable to good compensation is postcompensation and the extent of net residual dispersion(NRD) is -10 ps/nm in DM optical link consisted of fiber spans with the randomly distributed SMF lengths.

  • The systems for mobile communication services of fourth generation use OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme that ran transmit large amounts of data to support the multimedia services, and consist of several types of cell, such as Macro Cell, Pico Cell, Femto Cell to improve the qualify of service. According to subdivision of communication region, superposition of cells in co-channel different from conventional single cell is used, but it cause inter band interference between systems. In particular, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers, and superposition of these subcarriers causes a problem that ran give a large PAPR. Increased PAPR induces signal distortion passing through components such as power amplifier so that inter band interference is caused by out-of-band spectrum radiation. In order to minimize the inter band interference, this paper applies PAPR reduction scheme and analyzes the out-of-band spectrum radiation when the signal passes through nonlinear components such an power amplifier.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to implement a predistorter of the $rho$-th order inverse filter structure to prevent signal distortion and spectral re-growth due to the high PAPR (peak-to-average ratio) of the OFDM signals and the non-linearity of high-power amplifiers. We model the memory-less non-linearity of the high-power amplifier with a polynomial model and utilize the inverse of the model, the $rho$-th order inverse filter, for the predistorter. Once the non-linearity is modeled with a polynomial, since we can determine the $rho$-th order inverse filter only with the coefficients of the polynomial, large memory is not required. To update the coefficients of the non-linear high-power amplifier model, we can use LMS or RLS algorithms. The convergence speed is high since the number of coefficients is small, and the computation is simple since manipulation of complex numbers is not necessary.

  • Optical link techniques compensating chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects, which affect distortion of optical signals, generated in single mode fiber are investigated through computer simulation and design rule of these link techniques is proposed for implementation of wideband and long-haul WDM ($24{\times}40$ Gbps) transmission system. The optical link consist of dispersion management (DM) compensating the cumulated dispersion through total transmission line and optical phase conjugation in middle of total transmission line for compensating distorted signals by frequency inversion. DM schemes considered in this research are lumped DM and inline DM. It is confirmed that eye opening penalty (EOP) of overall WDM channels are more improved than those in WDM transmission systems with only optical phase conjugator (OPC), if DM is additionally applied to these systems. And, design rule in both DM schemes are proposed by using effective residual dispersion range. It is confirmed that inline DM is better than lumped DM in the improving EOP of total WDM channels and in effective residual dispersion range.
