  • Slipforming is a construction method in which the forms move continuously during the placement of concrete. This paper presents the development of a computer aided program designated as "CADSLIPFORM" for slipforming operations. The program incorporates maturity methods for the prediction of initial setting times of slipform concrete layers using laboratory data (time-temperature histories and setting times of concrete mixtures at different temperatures) and generates slipform mock-up times. The performance of CADSLIPFORM is validated by comparing simulated mock-up times with those estimated in the field through conventional hard front by rod (R) method. Moreover, the program versatility is demonstrated by illustrating mock-up simulations for different cases with variable slipform parameters such as: number and thickness of concrete layers, concrete temperature (simulating variable setting times) and slipform speed. The program also incorporates the choice of Freiesleben Hansen & Pederson (FHP) and Carino & Tank (CT) maturity functions. CADSLIPFORM can assist user to develop reliable schedule of slipforming operation suitable for a specific project by optimizing various slipform parameters.

  • This paper presents the result of a mock-up test and field application of concrete that is black in color thanks to the application of superplasticizer containing carbon amino silica black (CASB-SP). Mock-up specimen with a size of $3000{\times}1500{\times}40$ mm was fabricated with black concrete applying 0.5% of CSAB-SP with 27 MPa. After dividing the zone in wall mock-up specimen, three different water repelling agents were applied to verify its effect of efflorescence prevention. It was found that the use of CASB-SP with 0.5% made the black concrete develop a highly clear black color, and the epoxy type water repelling agent had better performance in efflorescence prevention. Based on mock-up test, field application was conducted with bridge member. It was also found that the application of CASB-SP showed favorable results in black color development.

  • The super tall building above 100 floors is required that each floor's height is more than 4 meters, and each core wall's thickness is more than 60cm. Therefore, for the successive accomplishment of super tall building, the full scale mock-up test was required. The test results are as follows; Real strength of core wall was satisfied with design strength at 28 days regardless of types of strength, and according to the consolidation effect, lower part's strength was a little higher than upper part's strength. Lateral force of HSC was evaluated with max. $4.5ton/m^2$, and hydration temperature of mock-up test was evaluated that maximun heat of central part revealed about $80^{\circ}C$ at 70MPa and $65^{\circ}C$ at 50MPa, and, the difference between inner and outter part revealed about $30^{\circ}C$ at 70MPa and $12^{\circ}C$ at 50MPa. Also, no crack by hydration temperature was not shown on the surface.

  • This paper presents the continuous hoop reinforcement method as a means to overcome the difficulty of rebar construction due to the seismic detail of lateral reinforcement. Because the continuous hoop has no seismic hook, and there is less interference during the rebar work, rebar quantities and construction time can be reduced. Since the details of column and beam continuous hoops are different from those of conventional lateral reinforcements, the construction method should be developed through mock-up tests. The length of the beam mock-up is 8m and the section size is $500mm{\times}700mm$, the height of the column mock-up is 2.8m and 4m, and the section size is $800{\times}800mm$. The length and the size are determined based on the elements that are generally used in reinforced concrete basement parking lots and office buildings. The results of the mock-up test showed that the quantities of rebar could be reduced by 20% and the time could be reduced by up to 40% compared with conventional lateral reinforcements.

  • This study evaluated the in-site compressive strength development of high-strength concrete developed for the mass structures under cold weather condition. Two mock-up wall specimens with $2.0{\times}1.2{\times}1.0m$ in dimension were cured under an average temperature of $5^{\circ}C$. Core strengths measured at different locations of the mock-up walls were compared with the companion standard cylinder strengths. Test results revealed that the core strength of mock-up walls at an age of 3 days is higher by approximately 30% than the companion cylinder strength because of the high curing temperature effect generated from the heat of hydration of cementitious materials. Furthermore, comparisons with the prediction models based on maturity function confirmed that the effect of hydration heat on the curing temperature increase needs to be reflected to reasonably evaluate the on-site compressive strength development of concrete for mass elements.

  • As sustainable design technologies, advanced daylighting systems with lightshelves have been developed and are currently under monitoring the daylighting performance. This study aims to evaluate the comparative daylighting performance of sloped lightshelf and conventional glazing window with mock-up model, reconstructed as a prototype of Korean office building, sized $12.0m{\times}7.3m{\times}3.7m$ ($w{\times}d{\times}h$) and $1.8m{\times}4.8m$($w{\times}h$) for the south facing side-window was installed on the rooftop of engineering building, Kyung Hee University in Korea. It has an identical configuration of reference room and the test room. For the test room, the sloped type lightshelf system was designed as 10mm transparency sheet glass, tilt angle degree $29^{\circ}$, and total sized 1.28m (interior length 0.88m, exterior length 0.49m). It consisted of daylighting collector, entrance glazing and reflector. To assess daylighting performance, the totally 37 measuring points for illuminance and 2 view points of luminance were monitored in every 30 minutes from 12:00 to 15:00. For the detailed analysis, photometric sensors of each room were installed at work-plane (8 points), wall (7 points), ceiling (3points), and exterior horizontal illuminance (1 point). Luminance of window, rare of the room was measured under clear sky. It is to be monitored by Agilent data logger, photometric sensor Li-cor and the Radiant Imaging ProMetric 1400. Comparisons with a light factor, increase-decrease ratio, uniformity, and luminance are discussed.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate experimentally the effect of replacement of recycled coarse aggregates with 5~13mm in size on a field applicability of concretes through Mock-up test. Seven different mock-up specimens were prepared with the size of $1200{\times}800{\times}800mm$ simulating column and wall. For the concrete mixtures, 24MPa, 27MPa and 40MPa of nominal strength were adopted with 30% and 70%(only for 24MPa) of 5~13mm recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement and without 5~13mm RCA(Plain). For test items, slump, slump flow, compressive strength with different curing conditions, core drilling, rebound numbers and drying shrinkage were measured. Test results indicated that 30% of 5~13 mm RCA replacement resulted in increase in slump, slump flow and resistance against segregation, while air contents decreased compared to those of plain mixture. Compressive strength of concrete with 30% of 5~13mm RCA was shown to be higher than that of plain mixture due to optimum packing effect associated with presence of well graded aggregates. Rebound number of the mock-up specimen with 30% of 5~13mm RCA had lower fluctuation according to hitting location than that of plain mock-up specimen. It is believed from the results of the study that replacement of 30% of 5~13mm RCA brings desirable improvement in various aspect of concrete performance due to associated dense packing effect.
