  • This letter presents a power amplifier (PA) with an on-chip power detector for 2.4-GHz wireless local area network application. The power detector consists of a clamp circuit, a diode detector, and a coupled line directional coupler. A series inductor for an output matching network in the PA is combined with a through line of the coupler, which reduces the coupling level. Therefore, the coupler employs a metamaterial-based transformer configuration to increase coupling. The amount of coupling is increased by 2.5 dB in the 1:1 symmetric transformer structure and by 4.5 dB from two metamaterial units along the coupled line.

  • A novel multi-section power divider configuration is Proposed to obtain wide-band frequency performance up to microwave frequency region. Design procedures for the proposed microwave broadband power divider are composed of a Planar multi-section three-Ports hybrid and a waveguide transformer design procedures. The multi∼section power divider is based on design theory of the optimum quarter- wave transformer Furthermore, in order to obtain the broadband isolation performance between the two adjacent output ports, the odd mode equivalent circuit should be matched by using the lossy element such as resistor. The derived design formula for calculating these odd mode∼matching elements is based on the singly terminated filter design theory. The waveguide transformer section is designed to suppress the propagation of the higher order modes such as waveguide modes due to employing the metallic electric wall. Simulation and experiment show excellent performance of multi section power divider.

  • A differential power amplifier operating at millimeter-wave frequencies is demonstrated using a 65-nm CMOS technology. All of the input, output, and inter-stage network are implemented by transformers only, enabling impedance matching with low loss and a wide bandwidth. The millimeter-wave power amplifier exhibits measured small-signal gain exceeding 12.6 dB over a 3-dB bandwidth from 45 to 56 GHz. The output power and PAE are 13 dBm and 11.7%, respectively at 50 GHz.

  • An auxiliary real-time train communications system among drivers, train-traffic controllers and field workers is necessary to share hazard information (i.e. rockfall detection, track maintenance) in low visibility zones (long tunnels and steep curved track). To develop the appropriate communication system, this paper proposes a new way of power line communication using the rail track (Rail - PLC), which has little noise and distortion of attenuation. Therefore, it is important to measure the impedance of the rail and to apply an impedance matching technique to increase the transmission characteristic of the Rail - PLC. This study would evaluate the reflection and the transmission characteristics of the rail using a network analyzer and an impedance matching transformer. The suitable impedance matching ratio was 1:3.28 from the result of back-to-back testing. The results confirmed that the transformer can improve the performance of the transmission signal in Rail - PLC using an impedance matching technique.

  • In this paper, an integrated balun using bondwire transformer is fabricated and measured. The bondwire transformer has 1ow conductor and substrate loss and kas high resonance frequency. So it is available to implement low loss broadband balun. From the measured results, 0.7 dB amplitude imbalance and about 2.5 $^{\circ}$ phase imbalance was achieved from 8.15 to 16.18 GHz. It is expected that the proposed balun can improve the performance of mixers, amplifiers and matching networks of antennas. It can also be integrated with other components due to its easier fabrication and smaller size than spiral transformer balun.

  • In this paper, a two-stage single-ended power amplifier (PA) with broadband gain characteristics was presented by utilizing a radio frequency (RF) transformer (TF), which is essential for a differential amplifier. The bandwidth of a PA can be improved by designing TF to have broadband characteristics and then applying it to the inter-stage matching network (IMN) of a PA. For broadband gain characteristics while maintaining the performance and area of the existing PA, an IMN was implemented on an monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) and a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB), and the simulation results were compared. As a result of simulating the PA module designed using InGaP/GaAs HBT model, it has been confirmed that the PA employing the proposed design method has an improved fractional bandwidth of 19.8% at a center frequency of 3.3GHz, while the conventional PA showed that of 11.2%.

  • A multilayer square-type piezoelectric transformer with a hole at the center was investigated in this paper. Temperature distribution at the center was improved by using this construction, therefore increasing input voltage and output power. This model was simulated and investigated successfully by applying a finite element method (FEM) in ATILA software. An optimized structure was then fabricated, examined, and compared to the simulation results. Electrical characteristics, including output voltage and output power, were measured at different load resistances. The temperature distribution was also monitored using an infrared camera. The piezoelectric transformer operated at first radial vibration mode and a frequency area of 70 kHz. The 16 W output power was achieved in a three-layer transformer with 96% efficiency and $20^{\circ}C$ temperature rise from room temperature under 115 V driving voltage, 100 ${\Omega}$ matching load, $28{\times}28{\times}1.8mm$ size, and 2 mm hole diameter. With these square-type multilayer piezoelectric transformers, the temperature was concentrated around the hole and lower than in piezoelectric transformers without a hole.

  • The coaxial line impedance transformer that performs impedance conversion using the coupling of two or more coaxial lines of the same length is often used for impedance matching in the low frequency region due to many advantages. This paper measures the phase and magnitude characteristics of each coaxial line in a 4:1 coaxial line impedance transformer using two 100mm coaxial lines. This experiment shows that it is more effective to make the length of the auxiliary coaxial line shorter than the main coaxial line by about 5 mm in order to realize a low loss impedance transformer. In addition, it measures the transmission characteristics by directly connecting a 4:1 impedance transformer and a 1:4 impedance transformer. This experiment shows that it is effective to connect a 1pF capacitor between the ground and the outer conductor input point of the main coaxial line in order to increase the operating frequency range.

  • Multiview stereo (MVS) 3D reconstruction of a scene from images is a fundamental computer vision problem that has been thoroughly researched in recent times. Traditionally, MVS approaches create dense correspondences by constructing regularizations and hand-crafted similarity metrics. Although these techniques have achieved excellent results in the best Lambertian conditions, traditional MVS algorithms still contain a lot of artifacts. Therefore, in this study, we suggest using a transformer network to accelerate the MVS reconstruction. The network is based on a transformer model and can extract dense features with 3D consistency and global context, which are necessary to provide accurate matching for MVS.
