This study researched aspects of gender and grade related to the after-school happiness of lower grade elementary students and the correlation between the children's happiness and their stress and playfulness. Results of surveys and interviews of 124 lower grade elementary students who attended 4 after-school programs in Seoul showed that : (1) there were no gender differences in happiness but first graders were the happiest, then 2nd graders and the 3rd graders who were the least happy. (2) Children's happiness correlated negatively with stress. (3) There was no relationship between children's overall happiness and playfulness, but there was a negative correlation between happiness and playfulness under the sub-category of cognitive spontaneity. Results were discussed in relation to the Korean socio-cultural environment.
The goal of this study is to examine the sociality and school adjustment of elementary school lower-class students. The following research hypotheses were set up and addressed: Hypothesis 1: There would be significant differences in sociality of the elementary school lower-class students according to activity - making friends group counseling Program. Hypothesis 2: There would be significant differences in school adjustment of the elementary school lower-class students according to activity - making friends group counseling Program. The subjects for the study were 20 first grade students attending N elementary school in Daejeon area. The students were assigned to the two groups-experimental group(N=10) and controlled group(N=10). The experimental group received 10 sessions of the activity - making Friends group counseling program for 40 minutes by 2 times every week, and the controlled group didn't do anything. To verify the hypotheses, two tests(sociality and school adjustment tests) were administered for the pretest and post-test. Means and standard deviations obtained from these tests were analyzed with factorial covariance test using SPSSWIN(10.0). The results were as follows: Hypothesis 1 was confirmed. The scores of experimental group were significantly higher than those of controlled group in sociability, cooperation and independence, but not in observance. Hypothesis 2 was confirmed. The scores of experimental group were significantly higher than those of controlled group in teacher-student relationship, student-student relationship and classes, but not in the keeping rules. The conclusion of the result is that the program have a good effect on the elementary school lower-class students' sociality and school adjustment. Above all, along with long-term adaptability of the research, continuous studies are required.
A transition from elementary to secondary school, and among grades, among learning contents is a essential problem in education. A connectivity between learning contents is important in student's growth and development. A gap between lower grades and higher grades in elementary school is no less extensive than a gap between elementary mathematics and secondary mathematics. In this paper, we start with a critical mind about a transition and connectivity between lower grades and higher grades in elementary school. In order to compare between elementary grades, we firstly focus 4th grade mathematics which finish lower grades and start higher grades at the same time. First, we make up a questionnaire to 4th grade students and teachers in charge 4th grade. A questionnaire is composed of questions about the degree of difficulty in the learning(and teaching) of 4th grade mathematics comparing with 3rd grade mathematics. Second, we compare to lower grades lessons(1st grade) and 4th grade lessons using a qualitative method. we analyze the lesson contents, activities and time through 'analysis of the learning course'. And we compare the pattern of eliciting questions, question patterns, nomination patterns and feedback patterns between 1st grade and 4th grade lessons. We hope that this paper is a fundamental sources in investigating a connectivity between lower grades and higher grades in elementary mathematics in the future.
In this study, the types of inquiry activities in the $5^{th}$ & $6^{th}$ grade science textbooks according to the 2015 revised science national curriculum were analyzed and compared according to grade level and science area. Science textbooks for elementary school $5^{th}$ & $6^{th}$ graders contain quite diverse types of inquiry activities, which are student-centered inquiry activities. There were comparatively higher proportions of inquiry types such as experiment & observation and simulation, but relatively lower of inquiry types of investigation-discourse & presentation, discussion, expression. Elementary science textbooks are expected to cultivate science key competencies for elementary school students. Considering the science area, the motion & energy, substances, earth & space, and integration areas had the most experiment & observation among activity types, while the life area had the most simulation activities. Even in some area of the 6th grade science textbook, there was little or no data interpretation, discussion, and simulation activities. In order to achieve the goal of elementary science education, science textbooks should be developed considering the revision of future elementary science curriculum.
This study investigated the influences of science anxiety ill elementary school teachers on tile children's science achievement and attitudes. For this study, 166 elementary school teachers taken charge of 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school children, were chosen as a sample. First, we tested science anxiety test to these teachers, and then chose 50 teachers that are 25 teacher of highest score and 25 teachers of lowest score. Next, we chose 1848 students that 50 teachers take charge. The results are as follows. 1. The children learned from lowest scored teacher got the higher point than the children learned from highest scored teacher in science achievement test. 2. Children's science attitude have a little differences in 4 sub-boundary area but totally lower science anxiety group have higher score than higher science anxiety group. 3. Another variables such as grade, living district, teachers' training experience give influence to the children's attitude to science. In this result, we found that teachers' science anxiety influenced in some part upon the elementary student science achievement and attitude.

The purpose of this study was to research the effects of students' evaluation results on teachers' teaching activities. The subjects were 431 elementary school students of 4th, 5th and 6th grade, and 14 teachers of 7 schools located in Seoul, Cheongju, and Daejeon city. The experimental design included pre and post-tests with the control group. Our results found that most of the students had positive thoughts towards science classes. In particular, activities where the teachers provided support in the conduct of experiments and the learning atmosphere generally were evaluated higher than other activities. However, unrestricted experiments were evaluated lower by the students. The feedback from the students' evaluation results of their teachers affected the teachers' teaching activities statistically. The teachers' support during experiments, unrestricted activity during experiments, and evaluation activities were changed positively following the students' feedback. However, the loaming atmosphere and unrestricted activity during experiments were observed to change negatively when the teachers were not given the students' feedback.
This study compared the food habits and attitudes towards dietary life culture in types of feeding management, gender and grade. The subjects were 352 elementary school students who lived in Seocheon, Chungnam. The independently managed school students were better than jointly managed school students in food habits (p<0.05). In skipping school meals, upper grade students were skipped more than lower grade students (p<0.05). In rate of eating school meals, boys were faster than girls (p<0.001). The independently managed school students and the jointly managed school students were different on distasteful food. Boys disliked vegetables and girls disliked cereals and beans (p<0.05). Upper grade students ate more well-balanced meals than lower grade students (p<0.05). As for the question 'what you will do if the distasteful foods are provided through school meals', they responded. the highest percent of students, 'I will try once or twice'. And the response 'I have them for health' was higher independently in managed school students than the jointly managed school students (p<0.05), girls than boy (p<0.05), and the lower grades than the upper grades (p<0.05). As for the question 'what you will do if the distasteful foods are provided, after the guide for school meals was performed', the response, 'I will make an effort to have it' accounted for the highest percents, and there were differences in lower grade students who were high percents than upper grade students (p<0.01). As for the recognition for unbalanced diets, most of the students recognized that it is a 'bad habit'; the girl students accounted for more percentage than boys (p<0.05). The criterion of food choice were different in gender and grade (p<0.01). As for the factor of influences for the food habits formation, lower grade students were 'school education' and upper grade students were 'parents' (p<0.05). Thus, the systematic guide for proper intakes of nutrition should be performed. Also, the time when students can be educated by an expert of nutritional education, which is connected with school meals and students can grow healthily.
The purpose of this study is to find the influence of environmental issue analysis instruction on the environmental decision making ability for grade 5 elementary school students. The study was done through pre and post testing control group structure. The object of this study is grade 5 of I elementary school students which were divided into 35 student test group and 54 student control group. Through studying references, the selection standard of appropriate environment issue and the environmental issue analysis instructing objective. Conducted the environment issue instructing based on the selected environment issue and instructing objective. The classes were held in total of 6 sessions in the chapters related to class objective and class content within the curriculum. The pre and post testing was done using environment decision making ability test sheet which was reconstructed by myself and the results were analyzed by t-test. As a result of comparing pre and post testing the students in test group showed significant results in the processes of problem recognition, evaluation of alternatives, behave planing (p<.001). As a result of comparing the differences of environment decision making ability of pre and post test of test group and control group, it showed significant results in the process of evaluation of alternatives(p<.00l). The environment issue analysis class has positive influence on the environment decision making abilities of the students but since the outcome of environment decision making ability is lower, there is a need for long term environment education plan and further studies to find whether the environment issues within the textbook is appropriate in the elementary student level, useful school aspect and the influence of environment issue analysis class on the change of values for individuals.
This study explores the possibility and development plan for science career education in the lower grades of elementary school. Accordingly, science career education programs were developed and applied. We investigated changes in perception and interest in science before and after the programs, and analyzed surveys, research journals, student worksheets, and interview records. Science career education programs for lower-grade elementary school students have a positive effect on the perception of scientists and science. Moreover, they influence students' interest in science. Lastly, students' perception of this program was positive and gave high marks to all parameters such as interest, participation, and understanding of the program.
Objectives: Since the enactment of the School Nutrition Act in 1981, school lunch programs in South Korea have grown quantitatively and qualitatively with a current student participation rate of 99.8%. Nonetheless, educational materials are needed to reduce misunderstanding and ignorance about school lunch programs. This study aimed to develop 3 educational videos that help students of various ages (kindergarteners/lower-grade elementary, upper-grade elementary, and secondary school, respectively), understand the school lunch program. Methods: A scenario was created, was made, and the opinions on the scenario from experts in foodservice sectors were collected. A survey was conducted to students and parents to determine topics they wanted to know about school foodservice. The final videos were produced using this information and the expert opinions. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 for Mac (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA); a P-value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Three videos on school foodservice were developed for various age levels of students: kindergarten/lower-grade elementary, upper-grade elementary, and secondary school. Additionally, English subtitles were included for the multicultural student population. These videos, each lasting about 7 minutes, cover topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and the cultural significance of the school lunch program. The survey results showed that parents and students wanted to know the following topics about the school lunch program: "nutritionally balanced diet" (11.9%), "purchasing safe food ingredients" (10.9%), and "healthy eating habits" (9.9%). Conclusions: The developed videos will serve as valuable educational resources on school foodservice, foster a deeper understanding of the school lunch program in parents and students, and potentially address their inquiries regarding production processes, nutrition, hygiene, cultural heritage, and health.
