  • We propose a statistical interpolation approximate solution for a nonlinear stochastic integral equation of a stock price process. The proposed method has the order O(h$^2$) of local error under the weaker conditions of $\mu$ and $\sigma$ than those of Milstein' scheme.

  • This paper presents a content adaptive interpolation (CAI) for intra deinterlacing. The CAI consists of three steps: pre-processing, content classification, and adaptive interpolation. There are also three main interpolation methods in our proposed CAI, i.e. modified edge-based line averaging (M-ELA), gradient directed interpolation (GDI), and window matching method (WMM). Each proposed method shows different performances according to spatial local features. Therefore, we analyze the local region feature using the gradient detection and classify each missing pixel into four categories. And then, based on the classification result, a different do-interlacing algorithm is activated in order to obtain the best performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the CAI method performs better than previous techniques.

  • Image interpolation has been widely used and studied in the various fields of image processing. There are many approaches of varying complexity and robustness. In this paper, a new distance weight is proposed for the conventional linear interpolation. In comparison with the conventional linear weight, the new distance weight uses a quadratic or cubic polynomial equation to reflect that the interpolated value should be influenced more by the value of closer pixels in an input image. In this paper, the new adaptive linear (NAL) interpolation, which considers patterns near the interpolated value, is also proposed. This algorithm requires a pattern weight, which is used to determine the ratio of reflection on local patterns, to obtain an interpolated image that exhibits better quality at various magnification factors (MF). In the computer simulation, not only did the NAL interpolation exhibit much lower computational complexity than conventional bicubic interpolation, it also improved peak signal-to-noise ratios (PSNR).

  • A numerical study on the use of the momentum interpolation mettled for flows with a large body force is presented. The inherent problems of the momentum interpolation method are discussed first. Numerical experiments are performed for a typical flow involving a large body force. The tact that the momentum interpolation method may result in physically unrealistic solutions is demonstrated. Numerical experiments changing the numerical grid have shown that a simple way of removing the physically unrealistic solution is a proper grid refinement where there is a large pressure gradient. An effective way of specifying the pressure and pressure correction at the boundary by a local mass conservation near the boundary is proposed, and it is shown that this method can effectively remove the inherent problem of the specification of pressure and pressure correction at the boundary when one uses the momentum interpolation method.

  • This paper presents a multivariate kriging algorithm that integrates categorical data as secondary data for spatial interpolation of sparsely sampled ground survey data. Instead of using constant mean values in each attribute of categorical data, disaggregated local mean values at target grid points are first estimated by area-to-point kriging and then are used as local mean values in simple kriging with local means. This algorithm is illustrated through a case study of spatial interpolation of a geochemical copper element with geological map data. Cross validation results indicates that the presented algorithm leads to significant respective improvement of 15% and 25% in prediction capability, compared with univariate ordinary kriging and conventional simple kriging with constant mean values. It is expected that the multivariate kriging algorithm applied in this study would be effectively applied for spatial interpolation with categorical data.

  • Geostatistical data are obtained only at selected sites even though they are potentially available at any location In a continuous surface. Therefore it is necessary to estimate the unknown values at unsampled locations based on observations. In this study we compared the accuracy of 5 spatial interpolation methods: local trend surface, IDW, RBF, ordinary kriging, universal kriging. These interpolation methods were applied to annual rainfall data. As the results of validation tests, universal kriging with gaussian variogram model showed the best accuracy in comparison with other interpolation methods. In the case of kriging, the predicted values were more accurate and within a more narrow range than other methods. In contrast with kriging, local trend surface analysis, IDW and RBF showed the wide range of predicted values and abrupt changes between neighbors.

  • In this study, the prediction errors of various spatial interpolation methods used to model values at unmeasured locations was compared and the accuracy of these predictions was evaluated. The root mean square (RMS) was calculated by processing different parameters associated with spatial interpolation by using techniques such as inverse distance weighting, kriging, local polynomial interpolation and radial basis function to known elevation data of the east coastal area under the same condition. As a result, a circular model of simple kriging reached the smallest RMS value. Prediction map using the multiquadric method of a radial basis function was coincident with the spatial distribution obtained by constructing a triangulated irregular network of the study area through the raster mathematics. In addition, better interpolation results can be obtained by setting the optimal power value provided under the selected condition.

  • Natural images can be classified into edge or flat region. Edges have also various shapes such as long edge, texture and so on. Because the conventional deinterlacing methods commonly use one specific algorithm, they are faced with the difficulty that does not adapt various shapes of images. In this paper, a selective deinterlacing method based on the characteristics of local region of image is proposed. An input image is classified into three regions; flat region, complex edge, long edge. And then for each region, the proper method is assigned according to the characteristic of the local feature. For long edge region, the modified $NEDI(New Edge Directed Interpolation)^{[1]}$ method that interpolates long edge very well is used. The linear $filter^{[2]}$ that enhances high frequency components is used for complex edge, and the bilinear interpolation method is applied to flat region. The proposed method shows improved performance in PSNR and subjective evaluation compared with previous algorithms.

  • The spatial resolution of local weather and climate information for agronomic practices exceeds the current weather service scale. To supplement the insufficient spatial resolution of official forecasts and observations, gridded climate data are frequently generated. Most ecological models can be run using gridded climate data to produce ecosystem responses at landscape scales. In this lecture, state of the art techniques derived from geospatial climatology, which can generate gridded climate data by spatially interpolating point observations at synoptic weather stations, will be introduced. Removal of the urban effects embedded in the interpolated surfaces of daily minimum temperature, incorporation of local geographic potential for cold air accumulation into the minimum temperature interpolation scheme, and solar irradiance correction for daytime hourly temperature estimation are presented. Some experiences obtained from their application to real landscapes will be described.

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel edge-oriented color interpolation method which determine the edge direction with hard-decision based on high correlation between different channels. The novel edge direction estimation criterion improves the color interpolation method especially on edges by considering high frequencies between channels.
