  • The 5 day workweek has become widespread, and more recently, the 40 hour workweek is planned to be implemented to the Korean industry by the government by 2012. It is possible that in the future, we may begin to complain about too much leisure, rather than too much work. There is a need then, for types options in leisure activity, brought about by personal choices and interests. The use of leisure time is a very personal matter. It is deeply related to types with the quality of life. Bagozzi (1981) developed a model discerning among attitude, intention and activity, that attitude affects behavioral intention, and behavioral intention affects activity. So, as behavioral activity has a deep relationship to behavioral intention, participation intention according to leisure types leads to participation in leisure activity. Sports activity and hobby and cultural activity appear to have high participation and it seems that this is reflected in behavioral attitude. Among the types of leisure satisfaction, sport activity satisfaction is associated with a more positive attitude to leisure than other types. With respect to background variables for attitude toward leisure according to leisure satisfaction, the biggest differences in attitude toward leisure were associated with sports activity.

  • In this paper, "Gyeonggi-Do household weekend travel survey" is used in order to analyze activity participation and travel behavior for the people who go to work on Saturday(workers) and those who do not go to work(non-workers). To find out causal relationship between activity participation and travel behavior, Structural Equation Models are developed. Examination of the causal relationship between activity participation and travel behavior identifies three stages. Firstly, subsistence activities and leisure activities are generated. Secondly, each activity participation produces trip volumes and travel times. Finally, the sum of travel times forms trip volumes. Looking into the activity participation stages for the workers, their subsistence activies have a tendency to take place first, and leisure activities usually follow. Non-workers generate more simple trip chains and most of their first stage activities are leisure related.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a convenience sample of 282 adults living in three rural towns of Chungcheongbuk province. Leisure time physical activity was assessed through the Korean version of the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), and social influence and social cohesion of social environment were assessed using reliable and validated measures. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore personal and social environmental factors associated with LTPA. Results: The overall prevalence of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) was 40.0%. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that LTPA participation was associated with gender (OR=2.60, 95% CI=1.47-4.58), healthy eating (OR=1.15, 95% CI=1.01-1.31), unhealthy eating (OR=0.70, 95% CI=0.53-0.93) and social influence for physical activity (OR=1.11, 95% CI=1.03-1.20). However, social cohesion was not correlated with engaging in LTPA. Conclusion: Both personal and social environmental factors are associated with LPTA among rural adults living in Eup-Myen regions. Interventions to promote LTPA would likely benefit from considering healthy dietary intake and social influence for physical activity.
