The Analysis of Factors Affecting Korean Accounting Knowledge

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence Korean adults to acquire accounting knowledge. This study, which analyzes the characteristics of accounting knowledge of the general public, is expected to be used as basic data for the development of accounting curricula and education programs necessary for liberal arts courses and individual investor education in the future. Research design, data, and methodology -In this study, correct answer rates in the Economics and Business Literacy Test were analyzed across two rounds of tests. This study have the accounting scores of the applicants as a dependent variable and it aims to estimate key factors that affect accounting scores. Result - The results of regression analysis for individual variables that both the scores from the business administration and the economics, which were estimated to affect accounting performance, were found to have a positive effect. The results of the analysis of the relationship between major and accounting scores showed that the scores of all other majors were lower than those who majored in business. Conclusion - The results of this study suggest several implications in lecturing accounting as a basic or principle. Acquiring basic knowledge in economics and business administration was found to play an important role in understanding accounting ideas, indicating that such activities would be helpful when lecturing on accounting.

Development of Logarithm Units' Teaching·Learning Materials using Genetic Modeling and Application Cases (발생적 모델링을 활용한 로그 단원 교수·학습 자료 개발 및 적용 사례)

  • In this paper, we develop a logarithm units' teaching learning materials using genetic modeling which is designed for students to construct by themselves and figure out mathematical knowledge conceptually, and we analyze the process of students' comprehension of logarithm concepts through genetic modeling activities. For this purpose, we divide logarithm units into three subunits and develop teaching learning materials which include genetic original contexts and are framed by the four pedagogic phases of genetic modeling, application, extraction, comprehension, and construction so that students themselves are capable of construct the concepts of logarithm units. The developed teaching learning materials are applied into lessons for two intermediate-basic students and two intermediate-advanced students. Through this, we examine students' conceptual construction process about logarithms units with the four pedagogical stages of genetic modeling applied, and analyze the depth of their comprehension about the logarithm units based on the general phases of mathematics-learning introduced by van Hiele, and then we suggest several pedagogical implications.

  • The constraints of printed text have been lifted through developments in computer technology which has been identified as a revolutionary force. Hypertexts can be simply defined as electronic text that is found online, in a non-linear manner. In contrast to traditional printed texts, electronic writing depends upon an emergent technology, which is still subject to transformation. Unfortunately more research is needed on the experiences readers have when reading documents in hypertext formats for the purpose of knowledge retention. This study is to research the contrast between the traditional printed texts and hypertexts. Other areas where the literature has been relatively silent will be explored such as the experiences subjects have in reading hypertexts, and printed texts. It was clearly founded that the format of text does significantly influence the recall comprehension level of readers in the Printed Text and Hypertext Groups.

Study on the Impact of Various Economic Experience in Adolescence on Formation of Economic View in an age of convergence (융복합시대 청소년기의 다양한 경제 경험이 경제관 형성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study verified the effectiveness of various economic experience in adolescence on forming economic view. Survey was carried out for Asan-si residents and online homepage visitors in Sep. 2015, 116 cases were finally used for analysis. This study confirmed the moderating effect of interest in economy on the relationship between various economic experience in adolescence and formation of economic view, and analyzed differences depend on economic knowledge learning path. Various economic experience in adolescence positively affected economic comprehension, rational consumption attitude, start-up intention and the moderating effect of interest in the economy was verified. Demographic Characteristics and economic knowledge learning path also affected differences of economic view by the group. These study results suggest that experiential youth economic education program will be effective on forming economic view.

The Effectiveness of Early Screening and Intervention for Children at Risk of Reading Underachievement

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a screening test for children at risk of reading underachievement and to investigate the effectiveness of the early-stage intervention program. In the first part of the study, we recruited 155 elementary first grade students for a screening test. Phonological deletion, digit naming, object naming, and sound-letter correspondence knowledge of a screening test, all assessed at the beginning of the school year, predicted the reading ability at the end of the school year. In the second part of the study, we analyzed the difference in the reading ability between fourteen children who participated in the intervention program and eighteen non-participating children. Reading ability was assessed by evaluating word recognition, oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, and pseudo-word recognition. The reading ability of intervention group improved more compared to control group, and the difference between two groups accentuated over time. However, final analysis conducted in November revealed that two groups did not differ significantly in oral reading fluency. This suggests that, unlike word recognition and comprehension, fluency might not dramatically improve in a short period.

Science Gifted Learning Program: Research & Education Model

  • This paper suggests a research & education (R&E) model for the gifted in science education. The model has been developed under three assumptions. The first is that using the sequences of a gifted educational program designed to facilitate the process will assist in gifted students' construction of scientific knowledge and comprehension of laboratory practice through concrete experimental experience. The second is that gifted students will be able to apply this learning to further study using and extending scientific knowledge and experience. The third is that challenging tasks and feedback at the requisite stage of development will improve instructional effectiveness. The R&E Model has five phases: engaging, exploring, planning, performing and elaborating; furthermore, it suggests roles for the mentee and mentor. The R&E model has two functions for gifted education. The first is providing guidance for gifted curriculum developers as they design a mentor program, and the second is helping a mentor improve instructional effectiveness through use of strategies. This model has potentials to educate the gifted students in the Science Education Institute for the Gifted.

An Analysis of Learning Objectives and Test Items in Fundamentals of Nursing in Korea (기본간호학 학습목표 및 문제집 문항분석에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: To analyze the learning objectives and test items for Fundamentals in Nursing which were established between 1999 and 2000 and to develop these items toward a nationwide faculty workshop for national board examination for Korean nurses Results: 1. According to Bloom's taxonomy, learning objectives established in 1999 mainly consisted of two domains, comprehension (56 1%) and knowledge (27.7%). The learning objectives established in 2000, mainly consisted of comprehension (45.2%) and application (25.4%). 2. According to McGuire's taxonomy, domain of test items established in 1999 consisted of recall (66.7%). interpretation (28.0%) and problem solving (4.9%). Domain of test items established in 2000, consisted of recall (65.1%), interpretation (22.0%) and problem solving (12.9%). 3. The proportion of learning objectives in the knowledge and comprehension domains established in 200, decreased from 27.7% to 13.5%, and from 56.1% to 45.2% respectively over that of 1999. But the domain of application Increased from 5.3% to 25.4% over that of 1999. 4. With regard to McGuire's taxonomy, the proportion for the recall and interpretation domains established in 2000 decreased from 66 7% to 65.1%, and from 28.0% to 22.0% respectively. But the proportion for the problem solving domain increased from 4.9% to 12.9% over that of 1999. For type of test items, the proportion of A type established in 2000 decreased from 47.2% to 37 6%, and K type increased from 52.1% to 60.8% over that of 1999. Conclusion: The learning objectives and test items established in 2000 showed remarkable improvement compared to those established in 1999. For better learning objectives and test items in Fundamentals of Nursing, further research is recommended on essential content and standardization of job analysis for national board examination for nurses in Korea.

Knowledge Based Authoring System for Educational Contents (지식 기반 교육컨테츠 저작시스템)

  • For the purpose of an effective instruction-learning process by systematic management of knowledge between instructor and learner in e-Learning, we have developed the authoring system in which the instructor is able to author easily on various lecture frames according to the instructional design theory. The authored contents with the relations among the learning objects based on SCORM standard would help learner to conceptualize the contents. A knowledge map is constructed on the relations among the learning objects using RDF of the semantic web. We introduce the ontology in which the instructor can make a dictionary of terminology by registering the words of the teaching area. The learning activity and comprehension of students can be assessed using each student's learning map along the interaction points which are introduced to present the individual learning by considering each student's capacity of understanding and achievement.

  • Appreciation of nature and an understanding of the biological sciences by the general public are key to the popularization of modern science. In particular, informal and accessible venues such as museum exhibits occupy a crucial role in science education, and they depend heavily on fields related to macrobiology, including Ecology, Animal Behavior, and Environmental Science. Unfortunately, lack of engaged experts and superficial descriptions of natural phenomena all too often prevent scientific knowledge from being shared effectively with the general public. Raw information itself and knowledge are not in a form or structure accessible to nonspecialists. In order to move successfully deliver substantive comprehension of the biological knowledge to the general public, it is necessary to categorize information from a content-conscious perspective and transform it into useful biological content. Therefore, the role of scientists is critically important in a series of processes that include theme selection, editing, and even graphical layout of contents. These processes require not only a scientific and logical way of thinking, but also an aptitude for artistic presentation and effective communication. The concept of Translation is presented as a theoretical and operational framework for the popularization of science.

Recognition of the Nature of Science by Preservice Science Teachers on the Basis of the Atomic Model (원자모형에 기초한 예비과학교사들의 과학의 본성에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine preservice secondary science teachers' understanding of the nature of science, by using nature of science (NOS) questionnaire on the basis of atomic model, and compare this to pre-studies. 'Understanding of nature of scientific model,' 'Tentativeness of scientific knowledge,' 'Subjectivity in science,' 'Use of inference and imagination,' 'Myths of the scientific method,' and 'Comparison between science and art.' were examined. Preservice teachers showed great comprehension of the tentativeness of scientific knowledge (the orbital model) and the subjectivity in science (the different interpretation about the experiment of particle scattering), but displayed the lowest comprehension of the scientific method. For understanding of nature of scientific model (the atomic model) and the comparison between science (Bohr's atomic model) and art (Picasso's work), preservice teachers brought out a combination of ontological and constructivist perspective and showed the contradictory thought about imagination in science research. In the result of comparison to pre-studies using the NOS instruments contains general terms, represented high levels of agreement about the tentativeness of scientific knowledge by using concrete examples of 'atomic model'. When concrete scientists such as Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr were presented, respondents revealed more informed views about the scientists' research method.
