  • The Objective of this paper is to provide fuzzy control designers with a design tool for stable fuzzy logic controllers. Given multiple sets of data disturbed by vagueness uncertainty, we generate the implicative rules that guarantee stability and robustness of closed-loop fuzzy dynamic systems. We propose the cell-state transition method which utilizes Hsu's cell-to-cell mapping concept [1]. As a result, a generic and implementable design methodology for obtaining a fuzzy feedback gain K, a fuzzy hypercube [2], is provided and illustrated with simple examples.

  • Fuzzy algorithm is essentially nondeterministic, but to guarantee the stable control the fuzzy control program should be deterministic in practice. Fuzzy controllers with matrix representation is very simple in construction and very fast in computation. The value of the matrix is not adequate at the first place, but can be modified by using the neural networks. We apply the simple heuristic techniques to modify the matrix successfully.

  • All mechanical systems have saturation nonlinearity in actuators or in final control elements. When controllers have an integral action, reset windup can cause instability as well as make the system performance unsatisfacdtory. This paper presents an analysis of the stability of the control system with antireset-windup limiter, called intelligent limiter, using the describing function method. The responses of the system with this limiter are illustrated by computer simulation.

  • The paper deal with the differences between a fuzzy logic controller with a complete linguistic description and one with an incomplete linguistic description. The conditions to get a complete crisp controller by using a fuzzy logic controller with incomplete description are analyzed, and an application to the control of an analog PLL circuit is described, [1].

  • Fuzzy controllers still remain ill-accepted in the control community. As a matter of fact, their design relies on a new relation between the material world and the scientists. Whereas some theoritical studies are carried out on this subject, experimentations on processes show what fuzzy techniques can bring to the control theory.

  • In this paper we consider techniques for reducing the generated number of rules in learning fuzzy controllers of the state-space action-reinforcement type that can be simply implemented and that behave well in the presence of process noise. Fewer rules lead to better performance, less contradiction in controller action estimation, smaller required execution-time and make it easier for a human to comprehend the generated rules and possibly intervene.

The purpose of the study of multi-robot system is to realize multi-robot system easy for the control of robot system in case robot is adapted in the complicated environment of task structure. To make real time control possible by making effective use of recognized information in this dynamic environment, suitable distribution of tasks should be made in consideration of function and role of each performing robots. In this paper, IHMA (Intelligent Hybrid Modular Architecture) of Intelligent combined control architecture which utilizes the merits of deliberative and reactive controllers will be suggested and its efficiency will be evaluated through the adaptation of control architecture to representative multi-robot system.

  • In this paper, we develop a control hardware such as an FPGA based general purpose controller with a DSP board to solve nonlinear control problems. PID control algorithms are implemented in an FPGA and neural network control algorithms are implemented in a DSP board. PID controllers implemented on an FPGA was designed by using VHDL to achieve high performance and flexibility. By using high capacity of an FPGA, the additional hardware such as an encoder counter and a PWM generator, can be implemented in a single FPGA device. As a result, the noise and power dissipation problems can be minimized and the cost effectiveness can be achieved. In order to show the performance of the developed controller, it was tested for controlling nonlinear systems such as an inverted pendulum.

  • To provide pleasant building environment and the ease of maintenance and facility management, many new office buildings are being built as intelligent buildings. Building control systems which are employed in intelligent buildings require advanced types of controllers and varieties of control schemes. Designing and installation of these types of advanced building control systems take a lot of effort and also they are costly. In order to design these systems, it is necessary for the designers to have means to analyze and estimate the performance of control systems. The simulator which is presented in this paper is composed of three parts, HVAC simulation module, elevator simulation module, and evacuation modeling module for the outbreak of fire or similar disasters. In this paper, the functions and modelling method for each module are explained and simulation results are presented.

  • This paper presents a real design and implementation of an intelligent client-server equipment controller in computer-integrated manufacturing systems. An automated manufacturing process is commonly controlled by a number of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), which are attached to various equipments. A manufacturing cell consists of a set of equipments or workstation, which are also controlled by equipment or cell controller. We propose an intelligent equipment controller which has two function: one is to request (collect) an important information from each equipment and the other is to send the collected equipment information to the upper level controller (shop floor controller). Two-phase approaches are considered for the development of equipment client-server controller. The first events are generated virtually using computer simulation. Using the virtually generated activities, operating software of equipment server is developed. The second phase is to embed the virtually developed software (controller) into a real manufacturing system. The proposed methodology might be a novel design and implementation of a virtual simulator, which could be used for developing an intelligent equipment server.
