The purpose of this study is to build a model that explains the relationship between and among five variables that are student background, teacher background, home environment, school characteristic, and student mathematics achievement, using structural equation modeling. Another purpose of this study is to compare the relationships of these variables between the United States and Korea in 7th and 8th grades mathematics. Student, teacher, and school background files from population 2 in the TIMSS were selected for this study. The result of the study provides practical information for teachers, parents, school principals, and other people who are interested in improving student achievement, and also provides the information that may explain differences and similarities between the US and Korea in mathematics achievement.
The purpose of this study was to understand a mother's parenting behavior and home environment in relation to the stress of a male child. The subjects were 200 mothers of 4-6 years old children in early childhood programs located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Instruments used in this study were the Mother's Parenting Behavior Scale (Park Seong Yeon & Lee Suk, 1990), Home Scale (Jang Yeong Ae, 1981), and Children's Usual Stress Scale (Yeom Hyeon Gyeong, 1998). Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results indicated that (a) stress was shown to be higher if the mother's parenting behavior was authoritarian and over-protective, (b) children of lower economic background showed a higher stress level than middle and upper economic background subjects, and (c) the mother's educational background, authoritarian and over-protective parenting behavior and quality of the family background were meaningful variables for children's stress.
The purpose of this study were to identify the importance of father’s roles on children. A survey was carried out on 458(227 boys and 231 girls) 6th-graders at randomly chosen 4 elementary schools in Kwangju. Frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation and Pearson’s coefficient were checked and one-way ANOVA, Duncan’s multiple range test and multiple regression analysis were also carried out on the collected data. The results were as follows; 1. Evaluation of fathers’role performance depending on background variables ranged from 46.17 to 58.51 points(equivalent to 61.56∼78.01 points in the 100-point scale). Background variables that caused statistically significant difference were children’s sex, fathers’religion (whether they had one or not) fathers’education, monthly family income and decision-makers at home. The degrees of fathers’role performance were higher when the answerers were girls, when fathers had religions, when fathers educational level was higher, when the family income was higher, and when all family members participated in the decision-making. 2. Evaluation of children’s achievement motivation depending on background variables ranged from 77.17 to 84.34 points( equivalent to 68.90∼75.35 points in the 100-point scale). Background variables that caused statistically significant differences were children∼s sex and decision-makers at home. Children∼s achievement motivation were higher in the case of girls and when all family members participated in the decision-making. 3. When it comes to the children’s achievement motivation in relation to father’s role performance, 1)The overall aspect of fathers’ role performance caused significant differences in children’s achievement motivation. 2) The influence of fathers’role performance on children’s achievement motivation was highest in the investigation-faciliator role (${\beta}$=2.5) and then the economic role (${\beta}$=.14) and the valuetransmitter role (${\beta}$=.14). The explanative power of these variables was 22%.
This study had the purpose of presenting a residential environment solution as a desirable educational environment for middle school students to grow soundly and to achieve proper self-realization while providing basic materials to build up a suitable residential environment by comparing and analyzing what relationships exist between different home backgrounds, residential environments and middle school students' social maturity. This research was conducted from Feb. 11, 2008 to Feb. 13, 2008. The subject of this research was 601 students in 3 middle schools located in Gyunggi-do. The data analyzed used the SPSS 11.5 version. The summary of this study's results is as follows. First, in terms of home background, the higher the parents' educational background and social and economic position, the greater the students' social maturity. Second, in terms of home environment, the more spacious the living space, the better the water and sewage system and rest room, the more convenient the air conditioner and kitchen system, the better the lighting, ventilation, soundproofness, insulation, the less the danger in relation to fire, crime, traffic accidents, disaster, the greater the students' social maturity. Third, in terms of the home environment related to the correlation between the residential environment and social maturity, all areas such as housing facilities, housing structural environment and housing safety showed static correlations and proved that the residential environment has an important influence on social maturity. Accordingly, in order to build up an ideal residential environment, we should make efforts to expand and improve better facilities at home considering privacy, lighting, ventilation, soundproofness, heating etc. and remove unsound factors that obstruct students social maturity and build up clean and safe residential environment with good relations with their neighbors.

The purpose of the study is to researdch clothing consumer behavior of men and women over age of 20 years and to find out the reasonable maximum utility on clothing behavior. The factors are eight distinguished parts such as sex, age, monthly income, occupation, floor space, number of room, number of family and place of residence. A common questionaire is introduced to survey the clothing consumption activity and the home background. Sources to measure them are gathered in the whole country including major cities. The questionaire of 915 correspondents of 368 males and 547 females is investigated for this research. Some of the data are analyzed by correlation, frequency, percentage, mean, and S.D. Others are investigated by ANOVA Test, x2-Test, and Multiple Range Test. The results from the survey are as followings: 1. Only four factors such as sex, monthly income, occupation, and floor space have a significance in the clothing consumption activity. 2. This survey reveals that many cloths have been kept in dead storage and concerns of utility have risen high. 3.
