  • Recently, as TV home shopping has entered into the stage of stability, competition between the same lines of business has become more intense. Thus, this research goals have been determined in order to analyze the purchase intent of customers related with the genre and tempo of background music of TV home shopping by different types of products. In order to achieve the research goals, thorough research on related literatures have been conducted and found out about the background music. Furthermore, the characteristics of background music of actual TV home shopping broadcasting have been analyzed, focusing on the genre and tempo of the music. In addition, a survey has been conducted in order to verify what kind of music genre and tempo of the background music has an influence on the highest purchase intent of the chosen three products(sportswear, household appliances, fresh and processed foods). This study investigated the influence of background music of TV home shopping in relation to the purchase intent of customers. Also, this study has significance in the sense that it analyzed the causal relationship between the background music of home shopping and reactions of customers by categorizing products in details and using the music genre and tempo as the independent variables that affect the purchase intent of customers.

  • The purpose of this study is to build a model that explains the relationship between and among five variables that are student background, teacher background, home environment, school characteristic, and student mathematics achievement, using structural equation modeling. Another purpose of this study is to compare the relationships of these variables between the United States and Korea in 7th and 8th grades mathematics. Student, teacher, and school background files from population 2 in the TIMSS were selected for this study. The result of the study provides practical information for teachers, parents, school principals, and other people who are interested in improving student achievement, and also provides the information that may explain differences and similarities between the US and Korea in mathematics achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand a mother's parenting behavior and home environment in relation to the stress of a male child. The subjects were 200 mothers of 4-6 years old children in early childhood programs located in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Instruments used in this study were the Mother's Parenting Behavior Scale (Park Seong Yeon & Lee Suk, 1990), Home Scale (Jang Yeong Ae, 1981), and Children's Usual Stress Scale (Yeom Hyeon Gyeong, 1998). Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results indicated that (a) stress was shown to be higher if the mother's parenting behavior was authoritarian and over-protective, (b) children of lower economic background showed a higher stress level than middle and upper economic background subjects, and (c) the mother's educational background, authoritarian and over-protective parenting behavior and quality of the family background were meaningful variables for children's stress.

  • The purpose of this study were to identify the importance of father’s roles on children. A survey was carried out on 458(227 boys and 231 girls) 6th-graders at randomly chosen 4 elementary schools in Kwangju. Frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation and Pearson’s coefficient were checked and one-way ANOVA, Duncan’s multiple range test and multiple regression analysis were also carried out on the collected data. The results were as follows; 1. Evaluation of fathers’role performance depending on background variables ranged from 46.17 to 58.51 points(equivalent to 61.56∼78.01 points in the 100-point scale). Background variables that caused statistically significant difference were children’s sex, fathers’religion (whether they had one or not) fathers’education, monthly family income and decision-makers at home. The degrees of fathers’role performance were higher when the answerers were girls, when fathers had religions, when fathers educational level was higher, when the family income was higher, and when all family members participated in the decision-making. 2. Evaluation of children’s achievement motivation depending on background variables ranged from 77.17 to 84.34 points( equivalent to 68.90∼75.35 points in the 100-point scale). Background variables that caused statistically significant differences were children∼s sex and decision-makers at home. Children∼s achievement motivation were higher in the case of girls and when all family members participated in the decision-making. 3. When it comes to the children’s achievement motivation in relation to father’s role performance, 1)The overall aspect of fathers’ role performance caused significant differences in children’s achievement motivation. 2) The influence of fathers’role performance on children’s achievement motivation was highest in the investigation-faciliator role (${\beta}$=2.5) and then the economic role (${\beta}$=.14) and the valuetransmitter role (${\beta}$=.14). The explanative power of these variables was 22%.

  • This study investigated the degree to which young children's mothers needed a parent education program on home safety, the preferred goals, contents, methods, and evaluation of a parent education program on home safety, and whether or not the needs for a parent education program on home safety varied according to mothers' age, education background, and job. This study also analyzed the experience of their participation in any parent education program on home safety and its effect according to mothers' age, education background, and job. The data were collected from 569 mothers of young children and analyzed by $X^2$ and F tests. A questionnaire was developed based on the research of Peterson and Mori (1985) and Jung et al. (1992). The conclusions of this study were as follows: 1. The majority (92.8%) of mothers recognized the need for a parent education program on home safety and 97.5% indicated an intention of participating in a parent education program on home safety. 2. Mothers rated the most important goal of a parent education program on home safety as protecting young children from injuries. Mothers in their 30's responded to the need for understanding of young children's development characteristics and safety guidance as the highest while mothers in their 20's responded methods of first aid the highest. 3. The preferred methods of a parent education program on home safety were activities or learning by experience and the preferred instructors were safety professionals majoring in child development and family studies or early childhood education. The preferred practice methods of a parent education program on home safety were 5 sessions, with 25-29 participants, at young children's institute, on weekday afternoons, for one and a half hours per session, and with evaluation through questionnaire. 4. Nearly half (44%) of mothers had participated in a parent education program on home safety during the previous 3 years and 77.6% of them responded that a parent education program on home safety was effective on their safety lives.
