Considering precedent studies in which research subjects are mainly confined to secondary school students or higher grade students of elementary schools, we can notice that there has been implicit agreement that instruction of mathematical modeling is quite difficult to lower grade students of elementary schools. Compared to this tendency, this study aims to examine the possibility of instruction of mathematical modeling for all of school ages, and more specifically, the applicability of mathematical modeling tasks to lower graders. To do this, we developed a mathematical modeling task proper to cognitive characteristics of lower graders and applied this task to the second graders. Based on the research results by lesson observation and the teacher's reflection, some didactical suggestions were induced for teaching the lower grade elementary school students mathematical modeling.
The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching strategy focused on problem solving process and explore its effects on science creative problem solving ability, science process skills, science academic achievements and scientific attitudes of students after applying it. Teaching strategy focused on problem solving process employed brainstorming and PMI thinking strategies. The participants were the third grade students of both an experimental class(26 students) and a comparative class(25 students) at the S elementary school located in Goyang-City, Kyonggi Province. The developed strategy was applied to the experimental class for 9 periods of 'Separation of mixture' unit. The results of the tests on the science creative problem solving ability, the science process skills, scientific achievement and scientific attitude were statistically higher in the experimental class.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the attitudes of elementary school students on health curriculum. Methods: Based on the literary considerations and advanced research, a survey was conducted on Osgood's semantic differential scales on 329 fifth and sixth grade students in 6 elementary schools located in U metropolitan city regarding the attitudes towards health curriculum. Data were analyzed using t-test and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The overall attitude average grade was 3.46 in 26 factors, slightly exceeding the standard (3 points) which showed that students had a positive attitude towards health curriculums and thought health curriculums were valuable, necessary, and important classes. For each grade, the fifth grade believed health curriculums were more interesting, new, easy, necessary and valuable classes than compared to the sixth grade, and there were no differences between gender. The variables which affected attitudes in health curriculums included good feelings for health teacher, subject health status, and satisfaction in using the school health room. Conclusion: Because the better they think of health teacher, the higher the positive attitude towards health curriculums, a strategy which can build trust between student meetings not only during class time but also through operating a school health room will be necessary.
This study compared the food habits and attitudes towards dietary life culture in types of feeding management, gender and grade. The subjects were 352 elementary school students who lived in Seocheon, Chungnam. The independently managed school students were better than jointly managed school students in food habits (p<0.05). In skipping school meals, upper grade students were skipped more than lower grade students (p<0.05). In rate of eating school meals, boys were faster than girls (p<0.001). The independently managed school students and the jointly managed school students were different on distasteful food. Boys disliked vegetables and girls disliked cereals and beans (p<0.05). Upper grade students ate more well-balanced meals than lower grade students (p<0.05). As for the question 'what you will do if the distasteful foods are provided through school meals', they responded. the highest percent of students, 'I will try once or twice'. And the response 'I have them for health' was higher independently in managed school students than the jointly managed school students (p<0.05), girls than boy (p<0.05), and the lower grades than the upper grades (p<0.05). As for the question 'what you will do if the distasteful foods are provided, after the guide for school meals was performed', the response, 'I will make an effort to have it' accounted for the highest percents, and there were differences in lower grade students who were high percents than upper grade students (p<0.01). As for the recognition for unbalanced diets, most of the students recognized that it is a 'bad habit'; the girl students accounted for more percentage than boys (p<0.05). The criterion of food choice were different in gender and grade (p<0.01). As for the factor of influences for the food habits formation, lower grade students were 'school education' and upper grade students were 'parents' (p<0.05). Thus, the systematic guide for proper intakes of nutrition should be performed. Also, the time when students can be educated by an expert of nutritional education, which is connected with school meals and students can grow healthily.
This study evaluated the interest of parents of elementary school children on the examination with their memory of results, their consistency and their compliance with results sheets to improve effects of School dental health management project. This study recruited 1,334 second-, third-, fifth- and sixth-grade students at two elementary schools located in Daegu metropolitan city performing School Dental Examination Project in 2008 and investigated whether the students visited dental hospitals following results of the examination, how the parents remembered the results and how their memory was same with real results based on results of the examination, the parents' memory of results. The parents of second- and third-grade students showed good memory of malocclusion and number of Caries and higher consistency for dental caries. The parents of fifth- and sixth-grade students showed good memory of dental caries. Visiting rates of dental hospitals accordance with grade were 75.7% due to dental caries in second- and third-grade students and 60.5% due to malocclusion in fifth- and sixth-grade students. Among students with abnormal results of the examination, 77.1% of the children with dental caries of parents having same memory with real results visited the hospitals while 52.7% of those of parents having different memory with them did.

The purpose of this study was to investigate a motivation system about science learning and interest in science among elementary, middle & high school students and analyze on the their relations. For this, the questionnaires on interest in science that developed by Kind et al., (2007) were selected and translated. After that, second-grade 80 students, fourth-grade 87 students, sixth-grade 107 students, eighth-grade 123 students and eleventh-grade 128 students were required to accomplish a questionnaire on behavioral inhibition system/behavioral activation system about science learning (SL-BIS/BAS), interest in science. Based on these materials, SL-BIS/BAS by student's variables and relations of between the system to interest in science have been analyzed. The result of this study shows the followings. First, the sensitivity about SL-BIS was no significant difference in School levels. But sensitivity about SL-BAS and interest in science in elementary and high school was higher than it in middle school. Second, there were low negative correlation with SL-BIS and interest in science, and relatively high positive correlation with SL-BAS and interest in science. Through the results of this study, relations of motivation to related variables, and the motivation by student's variables are identified. These results would be helpful for teachers to understand the difference about motivation by students' variables and to make a plan for the appropriate strategies for learners.
A creative science writing program was developed, and applied to 2nd grade elementary students. Two 2nd grade elementary school classes in Seoul district were selected for the current study. A Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design was applied. The experimental group adopted the creative science writing program and the control group maintained traditional lectures for 12 classes. TTCT(Torrance Test of Creative Thinking) figural test and a scientific attitude test were conducted on both groups. According to the analysis, TTCT score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<.01). Among several subscales of TTCT, elaboration and resistance to premature closure was especially improved. Also, scientific attitude scale of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<.01). Among subscales of scientific attitude, the creative science writing program was effective on improving students' open-mindedness, critical mindedness, cooperation, voluntariness, and endurance. Gender was not a factor in the improvement of both students' creativity and scientific attitude.
This study investigated the influences of science anxiety ill elementary school teachers on tile children's science achievement and attitudes. For this study, 166 elementary school teachers taken charge of 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school children, were chosen as a sample. First, we tested science anxiety test to these teachers, and then chose 50 teachers that are 25 teacher of highest score and 25 teachers of lowest score. Next, we chose 1848 students that 50 teachers take charge. The results are as follows. 1. The children learned from lowest scored teacher got the higher point than the children learned from highest scored teacher in science achievement test. 2. Children's science attitude have a little differences in 4 sub-boundary area but totally lower science anxiety group have higher score than higher science anxiety group. 3. Another variables such as grade, living district, teachers' training experience give influence to the children's attitude to science. In this result, we found that teachers' science anxiety influenced in some part upon the elementary student science achievement and attitude.

The purpose of this study was to assess elementary student's ability of measuring length, area, and volume and reading metric scales. The findings of this study were as follows. All students were successful in measuring without scale, regardless of grades. But they were less successful in measuring the task using standard and nonstandard scales. Especially, in measuring area, lower grade students were not able to perform the task using nonstandard instruments, but higher grade students were able to perform the task. Measuring area using grade paper was least successful for sixth graders. In measuring volume, students under fifth grade read the upper scale when using graduated cylinder. In measuring by direct comparison, students were more successful in measuring length than in measuring area and volume using given material. The use of given nonstandard material was successful for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. In measuring using metric scale, lower grade students did not pay attention to the zero of the scale, but just read the end point. Higher grade students considered both zero and end points.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic informations for satisfaction degree for school lunch program of elementary school students in Yongin city. The questionnaire for the 646 subjects of the investigation included degree of satisfaction in school lunch program, sufficiency of the amount of foods provided, time of supplied milk intake, the greatest effects on food habits after receiving school lunch program, and primary factors of effects on food preferences and food habits. More than $70\%$ of the subjects were satisfied about the school lunch program(p<0.05). Female subjects felt more sufficient about the foods provided. Categories for the sufficiency of the food amount had higher ratios in lower grade subjects indicating some necessities of adjustments for the amount of food between the higher and lower grade subjects(p.0.05). About $68\%$ of the subjects drank milk after the 1 st class. The greatest effect of school lunch program was to provide subjects various new foods, well-balanced diets and finishing the supplied foods up. The school lunch had good effects on the food preferences of the elementary school students indicating the importance of the program.
