A separate heat pipe system capacity of 3,700kW has been developed and applied to preheating the blast furnace gas for recovery of the waste heat from boiler. The system is designed to preheat the blast furnace gas up to $126^{\circ}C$ by using tho boiler exhaust gas of which temperature is $180^{\circ}C{\sim}220^{\circ}C$. The arrangement of the fin tubes as well as the shape of the fin has been carefully determined to minimize the fouling problems. The heat pipe system was found to be stable in circulation of the working fluid and the range of the temperature variation of the preheated blast furnace gas was within $10^{\circ}C$. It was proved through a long-term test that the selected tube arrangement and the shape of the fins are proper to prevent the fouling problems and that the pay-back period of the system Is within one year.
Low temperature methane steam reforming to produce $H_2$ for fuel cells has been calculated thermodynamically considering both heat loss of the reformer and unreacted $H_2$ in fuel cell stack. According to the thermodynamic equilibrium analysis, it is possible to operate methane steam reforming at low temperatures. A scheme for the low temperature methane steam reforming to produce $H_2$ for fuel cells by burning both unconverted $CH_4$ and $H_2$ to supply the heat for steam methane reforming has been proposed. The calculated value of the heat balance temperature is strongly dependent upon the amount of unreacted $H_2$ and heat loss of the reformer. If unreacted $H_2$ increases, less methane is required because unreacted $H_2$ can be burned to supply the heat. As a consequence, it is suitable to increase the reaction temperature for getting higher $CH_4$ conversion and more $H_2$ for fuel cell stack. If heat loss increases from the reformer, it is necessary to supply more heat for the endothermic methane steam reforming reaction from burning unconverted $CH_4$, resulting in decreasing the reforming temperature. Experimentally, it has been confirmed that low temperature methane steam reforming is possible with stable activity.

Ground source heat pump systems can achieve the energy saving of building and reduce CO2 emission by utilizing stable ground temperature. However, they have many barriers such as high cost of installation, incompletion of design tool, lack of recognition as heating and cooling systems. In order to solve the problems, the building integrated geothermal system (BIGS) developed by several researches which use building foundation as a heat exchanger. In order to establish the optimum design tool of BIGS with the horizontal heat exchanger, the prediction method of ground heat exchange rate developed with numerical simulation model. In this study, the economic analysis for BIGS was conducted based on simulation results and the optimal design method was suggested. As a result, it was found that the case of 32 A, piping space 0.3 m, piping deep 0.5 m and flow rate 9.52 L/min was the best case as 50.1 W/m2 of heat exchange rate. In this case the initial cost was reduced to 115 million won.

Ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems are actively introduced as cooling and heating conditioning systems of buildings due to annual stable performance and easily maintenance. However, ground temperature imbalance is occurred when the GSHP is used for a long period. Therefore, in this study, we proposed the operation method of the system that considered the recovery time of heat source temperature. The entering water temperature (EWT) and heat exchange rate (HER) were comparatively analyzed according to the continuous and intermittent operation. Furthermore, the underground thermal environment was evaluated by numerical analysis model. As the result, the intermittent operation was a maximum of 12.3% higher HER during the heating period than the continuous operation. In addition, the overall ground heat source temperature at the intermittent operation was higher than it at the continuous operation.
In this study, the difference of flame stability zone for natural gases from producing districts was studied experimentally using a new type of flame stability diagram. The similarity of stable flame zone between a domestic appliance and an interchangeability test(IT) burner is also examined. As a result, the stable flame zones expressed by limits curves of flame lifting and yellow tipping show the similar results in a domestic gas range and IT burner. Furthermore, IT burner can reproduce the flash back phenomena and show the distinct difference of fuel type as the burner diameter is increased. To suggest the new type of flame stability diagram in the respect of fuel interchangeability, the air flowrate and Wobbe fuel flowrate were adopted as axis coordinates. It can be identified that the new diagram can provide the useful information on the difference of flame stability zone, heat input rate and air-fuel ratio when a fuel is altered to other fuels under the identical operating conditions. Finally, the stable flame zones for natural gas of 6 type are compared, and the detailed information to use as the interchangeability fuels of standard natural gas is provided using the new type of flame stability diagram.
The objective of the present study was to determine the minimum alcohol (ethanol) concentration that gives rise to the coagulation of goat milk for the alcohol precipitation test, and to evaluate the physical parameters of goat milk which include alcohol and heat stability. A total of 1,295 udder-half milk samples from 648 lactating dairy goats were collected from seven farms in Jeonnam province, Republic of Korea, to determine the alcohol and heat stability. The majority (99.6%) of the samples were coagulated when 70% ethanol was added to the milk, while only 11.0% of the samples were precipitated by the addition of an equal volume of 45% ethanol. With the concentration of 65%, 60%, 55% and 50% aqueous ethanol, 99.2%, 96.8%, 81.0% and 52.8% of the milk samples were coagulated, respectively. Of 1,295 dairy goat milk samples tested for heat stability, 127 (9.8%) were coagulated by boiling. Among the 143 alcohol test-positive udder-half milk samples, 52 (4.0%) were unstable by heat test, while 1,032 (79.7%) of the 1,152 alcohol test-negative milk samples were stable by heat test. According to the results of boiling test, sensitivity and specificity of 45% alcohol precipitation test were 0.3023 (95% CI: 0.2346~0.3772) and 0.9190 (95% CI: 0.9017~0.9344), respectively. The contents of protein and the specific gravity were higher in the milk samples of 45% alcohol test-positive than in those of 45% alcohol test-negative. However, lower levels of lactose and milk urea nitrogen were observed in the milk samples of 45% alcohol test-positive compared to the alcohol test-negative milk samples. The lowest pH values ($6.73{\pm}0.20$) were shown in the 45% alcohol test-negative and heat-unstable milk samples, while the lowest values of somatic cell counts and bacterial counts were shown in the 45% alcohol test-negative and heat-stable milk samples. Results of this study suggest that the alcohol precipitation for dairy goat milk may have to be tested with ethanol concentration less than 45% for the determination of freshness and heat-stability.
Leishmaniasis is one of the important tropical diseases in the world. Although it is not prevalent In Korea, imported cases have been recorded. The karyotype of Leishmcnic sp. has been observed to be variable by localities or by strains, but the karyotype of a strain is known to be stable. This study was performed to observe if the karyotype of a Leishmonio sp. would be changed under some stressful conditions. The karyotype, analyzed by pulsed Held gradient gel electrophoresis, was not grossly changed by heat shock, chemotherapeutics, UV illumination, and gamma irradiation. Radiation destroyed the chromosomes mechanically but subcultured organisms after irradiation showed unaffected karyotype. The present findings suggest that the karyotype of a Leishmnnia strain is so stable that it is not altered by temporary stimulation with heat, drugs, and radiation.
Eight distinct bacteria were isolated form diseased mycelia of the edible mushroom, Pleurotus eryngii. 16S rDNA sequence analysis showed that the isolates belonged to a variety of bacterial genera including Bacillus (LBS5), Enterobacter (LBS1), Sphingomonas (LBS8 and LBS10), Staphylococcus (LBS3, LBS4 and LBS9) and Moraxella (LBS6). Among them, 4 bacterial isolates including LBS1, LBS4, LBS5, and LBS9 evidenced growth inhibitory activity on the mushroom mycelia. The inhibitory activity on the growth of the mushroom fruiting bodies was evaluated by the treatment of the bacterial culture broth or the heat-treated cell-free supernatant of the broth. The treatment of the culture broths or the cell-free supernatants of LBS4 or LBS9 completely inhibited the formation of the fruiting body, thereby suggesting that the inhibitory agent is a heat-stable compound. In the case of LBS5, only the bacterial cell-containing culture broth was capable of inhibiting the formation of the fruiting body, whereas the cell-free supernatant did not, which suggests that an inhibitory agent generated by LBS5 is a protein or a heat-labile chemical compound, potentially a fungal cell wall-degrading enzyme. The culture broth of LBS1 was not inhibitory. However, its cell-free supernatant was capable of inhibiting the formation of fruiting bodies. This indicates that LBS1 may produce an inhibitory heat-stable chemical compound which is readily degraded by its own secreted enzyme.
This study was investigated to the energy recovery by the pyrolysis of waste tyre. the pyrolysis of the waste tyre was made by using the pyrolysis chamber for the gasification and the combustion chamber for the combustion of the pyrolysis gas. In batch system, the amount of waste tyre was put 150kg in the pyrolysis chamber and the proper air flow rate for the stable production of the pyrolysis gas was 0.95Nm$^{3}$ /min. the production time of the pyrolysis gas was stable above 210minutes, and the stable production rate was above 3.8Nm$^{3}$ /min. The production temperature of pyrolysis gas was 170$^{\circ}$C and combustion temperature of pyrolysis gas was 1,000$^{\circ}$C. The combustible component of washing gas in pyrolysis gas of waste tyre was CO, CH$_{4}$, $C_{2}H_{6}$ and $C_{3}H_{8}$, and total amount was 22.7%. Heat value of condensed material was 9,804Kcal/kg. The average concentration of air pollutants between cyclone and scrubber was CO 420.4ppm, SO$_{x}$ 349.8ppm. NO$_{x}$ 68.Sppm, HCl 24.4ppm and Dust 240.0g / Nm$^{3}$, respectively.
