  • In this study, we propose an improved group location tracking scheme (GLS) called integrated GLS (IGLS) which, in addition to the group location registration of the GLS, sends an integrated group registration message to a virtual visitor location register (VVLR) instead of sending an individual group registration message. This integrated procedure of proposed scheme leads registration cost of group registration and group location registration to be reduced significantly. Numerical results demonstrate that our proposed IGLS outperforms conventional GLS and delayed GLS (dGLS). The IGLS can be applied effectively on public transportation systems such as subway, train and bus.

  • Target-tracking algorithm based on ad hoc camera sensor networks (ACSNs) utilizes the distributed observation capability of nodes to achieve accurate target tracking. A compressed sensing-based multiple-target tracking algorithm (CSMTTA) for ACSNs is proposed in this work based on the study of camera node observation projection model and compressed sensing model. The proposed algorithm includes reconfiguration of observed signals and evaluation of target locations. It reconfigures observed signals by solving the convex optimization of L1-norm least and forecasts node group to evaluate a target location by the motion features of the target. Simulation results show that CSMTTA can recover the subtracted observation information accurately under the condition of sparse sampling to a high target-tracking accuracy and accomplish the distributed tracking task of multiple mobile targets.

  • Safety is a big issue in the construction sites. For safe and secure management, tracking locations of construction resources such as labors, materials, machineries, vehicles and so on is important. The materials, machineries and vehicles could be controlled by computer, whereas the movement of labors does not have fixed pattern. So, the location and movement of labors need to be monitored continuously for safety. In general, Global Positioning System(GPS) is an opt solution to obtain the location information in outside environments. But it cannot be used for indoor locations as it requires a clear Line-Of-Sight(LOS) to satellites Therefore, indoor location monitoring system could be a convenient alternative for environments such as tunnel and indoor building construction sites. This paper presents a case study to investigate feasibility of Wi-Fi based indoor location monitoring system in construction site. The system is developed by using fingerprint map of gathering Received Signal Strength Indication(RSSI) from each Access Point(AP). The signal information is gathered by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, which are attached on a helmet of labors to track their locations, and is sent to server computer. Experiments were conducted in a shield tunnel construction site at Guangzhou, China. This study consists of three phases as follows: First, we have a tracking test in entrance area of tunnel construction site. This experiment was performed to find the effective geometry of APs installation. The geometry of APs installation was changed for finding effective locations, and the experiment was performed using one and more tags. Second, APs were separated into two groups, and they were connected with LAN cable in tunnel construction site. The purpose of this experiment was to check the validity of group separating strategy. One group was installed around the entrance and the other one was installed inside the tunnel. Finally, we installed the system inner area of tunnel, boring machine area, and checked the performance with varying conditions (the presence of obstacles such as train, worker, and so on). Accuracy of this study was calculated from the data, which was collected at some known points. Experimental results showed that WiFi-based indoor location system has a level of accuracy of a few meters in tunnel construction site. From the results, it is inferred that the location tracking system can track the approximate location of labors in the construction site. It is able to alert the labors when they are closer to dangerous zones like poisonous region or cave-in..

  • The location area planning is to assign cells to the location areas of a wireless communication network in an optimum manner. The two important cost components are cost of location update and cost of paging that are of conflicting in nature; i.e., minimizing the registration cost might increase the search cost. Hence, it is important to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking cost is a minimum. The complete mobile network is divided into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. In fact this is shown to be an NP-complete problem in an earlier study. In this paper, we use an ant colony optimization method to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for a given a network.

MSRPVLR(Mobility Scheduler on Regular Path)과 RMB(Regular path Movement Buffer)를 이용하여 일정구간을 이동하는 TV(Transportation Vehicle)가 위치 갱신 요청을 하면, MSRPVLR은 이동 경로에 대한 프로파일 정보를 보내어 TV의 RMB에 저장함으로써 그 경로를 이동 시 그룹에 대한 위치 갱신 요청을 할 필요가 없게 된다. 따라서 PGLT 기법은 GLT 기법의 그룹 위치 갱신 비용을 줄임으로써 일정구간을 이동하는 TV에 탑승한 많은 사용자들에 대한 위치 관리 비용을 현저히 줄일 수 있다.

  • In this paper, we introduce a system that tracks and shares the position of objects based on tags. After receiving the location information of objects through the tag location tracking app, the location of the tag is shared as a group, and the shared users also check the location of objects in real time. Our system offer a differentiated function that allows multiple users to manage and supervise the location of objects, compared to legacy systems. The GPS module and Bluetooth are connected to the Arduino board to obtain the location information of the tag and check it through the Android app. We used Android Studio to create app, and the tag brings up the location of the object. The location of the tag is stored in the phpMyadmin DB and the latitude/longitude is received to the Android app and displayed on the map of the app. The proposed system will be useful for loss prevention and managing public goods.

  • Location area planning (LAP) problem is to partition the cellular/mobile network into location areas with the objective of minimizing the total cost in location management. The minimum cost has two components namely location update cost and searching cost. Location update cost is incurred when the user changes itself from one location area to another in the network. The searching cost incurred when a call arrives, the search is done only in the location area to find the user. Hence, it is important to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking cost is a minimum. The complete mobile network is divided into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. This partitioning problem is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, we use particle swarm optimization (PSO) to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for 16, 36, 49, and 64 cells network. Experimental studies illustrate that PSO is more efficient and surpasses those of precious studies for these benchmarking problems.

  • This paper suggests a healthcare home service system based on the distributed object group framework that can not only provide healthcare application services using the information obtained from the physical healthcare sensors and devices, and but also monitor and control these services remotely. The distributed object group framework supports the object group service, the interaction service between object groups and the real-time service in order to execute the healthcare application. Here object group means the unit of logical grouped objects or healthcare sensors and devices for a service. Our suggested system consists of 3 layers. The first layer presents the physical sensors and devices for healthcare, as a physical layer. The second layer lays the distributed object group framework, and the third layer, the upper's one, implements healthcare applications based on lower layers. With healthcare applications providing for this system, we implemented the location tracking service, the health information service and the titrating environment service. Also the integrated executing results of these services can be monitored and controlled via remote desktop systems or PDAs.

  • Despite the abundant literature in the field, there is still the need to find a time-efficient, highly accurate, easy to deploy and robust localization algorithm for real use. The algorithm only involves minimal human intervention. We propose an enhanced Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) based positioning algorithm for Wi-Fi capable devices, called the Dynamic Weighted Evolution for Location Tracking (DWELT). Due to the multiple phenomena affecting the propagation of radio signals, RSSI measurements show fluctuations that hinder the utilization of straightforward positioning mechanisms from widely known propagation loss models. Instead, DWELT uses data processing of raw RSSI values and applies a weighted posterior-probabilistic evolution for quick convergence of localization and tracking. In this paper, we present the first implementation of DWELT, intended for 1D location (applicable to tunnels or corridors), and the first step towards a more generic implementation. Simulations and experiments show an accuracy of 1m in more than 81% of the cases, and less than 2m in the 95%.
