  • In investigation of boundary-value problems for certain partial differential equations arising in applied mathematics, we often need to study the solution of system of partial differential equations satisfied by hypergeometric functions and find explicit linearly independent solutions for the system. Here we choose the Exton functions $X_1$ and $X_2$ among his twenty functions to show how to find the linearly independent solutions of partial differential equations satisfied by these functions $X_1$ and $X_2$.

  • This article presents an adaptive directional differential evolution (ADDE) algorithm and its application in solving discrete sizing truss optimization problems. The algorithm is featured by a new self-adaptation approach and a simple directional strategy. In the adaptation approach, the mutation operator is adjusted in accordance with the change of population diversity, which can well balance between global exploration and local exploitation as well as locate the promising solutions. The directional strategy is based on the order relation between two difference solutions chosen for mutation and can bias the search direction for increasing the possibility of finding improved solutions. In addition, a new scaling factor is introduced as a vector of uniform random variables to maintain the diversity without crossover operation. Numerical results show that the optimal solutions of ADDE are as good as or better than those from some modern metaheuristics in the literature, while ADDE often uses fewer structural analyses.

  • The goal of this paper is to study decay properties of weak solutions to Cauchy problem of the non-stationary fractional Navier-Stokes equations. By using the Fourier splitting method, we give the time L2-decay rate of weak solutions, which reveals that L2-decay is generally determined by its linear generalized Stokes flow. In second part, we establish various decay results and the uniqueness of the two dimensional fractional Navier-Stokes flows. In the end of this article, as an appendix, the existence of global weak solutions is given by making use of Galerkin' method, weak and strong compact convergence theorems.

  • In this paper, we solve the difference equation $x_{n+1}={\frac{x_nx_{n-2}}{ax_n-bx_{n-2}}}$, n = 0, 1, …, where a and b are positive real numbers and the initial values x-2, x-1 and x0 are real numbers. We also find invariant sets and discuss the global behavior of the solutions of aforementioned equation.

  • This paper is concerned with the global asymptotic stability of strong solutions for a class of semilinear evolution equations with nonlocal initial conditions on infinite interval. The discussion is based on analytic semigroups theory and the gradually regularization method. The results obtained in this paper improve and extend some related conclusions on this topic.

  • In this paper, the global stability and almost periodicity are investigated for generalized Hopfield neural networks with time-varying neutral delays. Some sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence and globally exponential stability of almost periodic solution by employing fixed point theorem and differential inequality techniques. The results of this paper are new and complement previously known results. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

  • Nonconvex Quadratic Optimization Problems (QOP) are solved approximately by SDP (semidefinite programming) relaxation and SOCP (second order cone programmming) relaxation. Nonconvex QOPs with special structures can be solved exactly by SDP and SOCP. We propose a method to formulate general nonconvex QOPs into the special form of the QOP, which can provide a way to find more accurate solutions. Numerical results are shown to illustrate advantages of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we investigate an initial boundary value problem for a nonlinear pseudoparabolic equation. At first, by applying the Faedo-Galerkin, we prove local existence and uniqueness results. Next, by constructing Lyapunov functional, we establish a sufficient condition to obtain the global existence and exponential decay of weak solutions.
