  • One of the main issues of molecular evolution is to reveal the principles dictating protein evolutionary rates. A traditional hypothesis posits that protein evolutionary rates are mostly determined by the average functional importance of amino acids in a given protein. Thus the correlations of evolutionary rates with different variables such as PPI, gene essentiality and expression abundance have been studied to test the traditional hypothesis. Recently, mRNA expression abundance among the variables has drawn much attention, not only because it shows relatively strong correlation with protein evolutionary rates, but also because of the controversies surrounding an alternative hypothesis against the traditional one. Here, I will give an overview over the traditional hypothesis, and summarize the different variables that have been found to correlate with protein evolutionary rates. Then I will introduce pros and cons on the two different hypotheses.

  • Crystal structure of TRAF6 in complex with TRAF6-binding sites from CD40 was previously determined. The structure revealed a distinct TRAF6-binding groove of CD40. the key structural determinant of interaction. The structural information leads to a proposed TRAF6-binding motif. This allows the identification of TRAF6-binding sequences in the hlRAK protein, whose functional requirement in IL-1 mediated signal transduction is further demonstrated using site-directed mutagenesis. The mutational in IL-1 mediated signal transduction is further dimonstrated using site-directed mutagenesis. The mutational effects of hlRAK on the down-stream NF-${\kappa}$ signaling shows the importance of the TRAF6 interface for signaling by IL-1.

  • Economic values of 14 production and functional traits for two Slovak dairy sheep breeds (Improved Valachian and Tsigai) were calculated. Semi-extensive production systems with one lambing per year were simulated using a bio-economic deterministic computer model. The marginal economic value of a trait was defined as the partial derivative of the profit function with respect to that trait. The relative economic value expressed the percentage proportion of standardized economic value (marginal economic value${\times}$genetic standard deviation) of a trait in the sum of the absolute values of the standardized economic values over all traits. Milk yield was of highest relative importance (26% and 32% in Improved Valachian and Tsigai) followed by productive lifetime and conception rate of ewes (16% and 15% in Improved Valachian and Tsigai, in both traits). Conception rate of female lambs and litter size had nearly the same relative economic importance in both breeds (9% to 11%). Survival rate of lambs at lambing and till weaning reached slightly lower economic values (4% to 7%). The economic importance of all remaining traits was less than 4%.

  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are ~22nt-long single-stranded RNA molecules that form a RNA-induced silencing complex with Argonaute (AGO) protein to post-transcriptionally downregulate their target messenger RNAs (mRNAs). To understand the regulatory mechanisms of miRNA, discovering the underlying functional rules for how miRNAs recognize and repress their target mRNAs is of utmost importance. To determine functional miRNA targeting rules, previous studies extensively utilized various methods including high-throughput biochemical assays and bioinformatics analyses. However, targeting rules reported in one study often fail to be reproduced in other studies and therefore the general rules for functional miRNA targeting remain elusive. In this review, we evaluate previously-reported miRNA targeting rules and discuss the biological impact of the functional miRNAs on gene-regulatory networks as well as the future direction of miRNA targeting research.

  • This study aimed to explore the characteristics and dimensions of of systematic functional gestures employed by pre-service Earth science teachers during instructional sessions. Data were collected from eight students enrolled in a university's Department of Earth Science Education. The data included lesson plans, activity sheets, and recordings of one class session from participants. The analysis, conducted using the systemic functional multimodal discourse analysis framework, categorized gestures into scientific and social functional dimensions. Further subdivision identified meta gestures, analytical gestures, and interrelated gestures. Additionally, pre-service teachers used gestures to explain scientific concepts, concretely represent ideas and facilitate communication during instruction. This study emphasizes the nonverbal strategies used by pre-service Earth science teachers, highlighting the importance of noverbal communication in teachers' professional development and the need for its integration into education. It also establishes a systematic conceptual framework for understanding gestures in the instructional context.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the detailed elements of each RDM function that can be applied to the development of research data management system in Geoscience field in Korea. Eight institutions related to RDM services were analyzed to achieve the research purpose. As a result of the analysis, 80 detailed elements of Geoscience RDM function were derived, and a survey was conducted to domestic experts to verify the derived details. As a result, 80 RDM functional details for Geoscience are presented in order of importance. The elements presented can be presented as functional details in the establishment and operation of RDM services in the field of Geoscience in research institutes or university libraries in Korea.

  • The study aims to understand the impact the consumption value changed by COVID-19 has on the purchasing behavior of industry foodservices dietitians and to provide baseline data in setting the marketing strategies for the food materials distribution companies in the future. The main survey was conducted for eight days from May 13th to 20th 2021 and 260 copies were collected and analyzed. Through the results of the study, the following conclusion elicited. First, consumption values that impact purchasing behaviors of industry foodservices dietitians are functional value and situational value. Second, for dietitians working at directly managed foodservice establishments, the higher the functional value of the food materials is, the higher the purchasing behavior. But such correlation was not found in the case of dietitians at consignment establishments. Third, compared to before and after COVID-19, the importance of functional value of food materials decreased, while the importance of situational value increased. Therefore, it is assumed that establishing marketing strategies differentiated by direct and consignment management will contribute to the energetic sales of the food material companies in the era of post COVID-19.

  • The objectives of the study were two folds. The first objective was to determine the dimensions of the evaluative criteria of various clothing items (underwear, pajamas, jeans, blouse, two-piece, coat). The second objective was to compare the importance of the dimensions according to the clothing items and the socioeconomic status of the subjects. The questionnaires were administered to college female students living in Seoul. Principal component factor analysis with varimax rotation and ANOVA were used for the analysis. The results were as follows; 1) The evaluative criteria dimensions were found to be different according to clothing items. (1) In underwear, pajamas, jeans, evaluative criteria were classified into Aesthetic dimension, economic dimension and Functional dimension. (2) In blouse, two-piece, coat, evaluative criteria were classified into Aesthetic dimension and practical dimension. 2) there were partially significant differences in placing importance on each evaluative criteria dimension between socio-economic groups. (1) In jeans, there was a significant difference in placing importance on Aesthetic dimension between socioeconomic status groups. (2) In blouse and two-piece there was a significant difference in placing importance on Practical dimension between socioeconomic status groups.

  • Self-assembly of the molecular system of perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic-3,4,9,10-dianhydride (PTCDA) is of such potential importance for organic semiconductor devices that PTCDA molecule on a variety of substrates has been extensively studied. Therefore we studied the density of states (DOS), the charge densities, and intermolacular bond lengths for PTCDA, and investigated PTCDA absorptioni sites on Si(111)In-$8{\times}8$ at room temperature using the density functional theory calculations.
