  • This paper introduces a novel hybrid converter combining a full-bridge soft switching converter and a full-bridge LLC converter. In this topology all the primary switches can achieve ZVS and ZCS all over the operation range. An additional switch and a diode are added in the secondary side of full-bridge converter to eliminate the circulating current and to provide a separate freewheeling path. The hybrid structure makes it possible to deliver the power to the secondary all the time of operation, thereby improving the efficiency. The proposed topology is suitable for the applications such as on-board chargers for electric vehicles and high power dc-dc converters. A 6.6-kW prototype converter was implemented and 97.5% efficiency was obtained through the experiments.

  • This study presents a circuit model for simulating the switching transients of insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) with inductive load switching. The modeling approach used in this study considers the behavior of IGBTs and freewheeling diodes during the transient process and ignores the complex semiconductor physics-based relationships and parameters. The proposed circuit model can accurately simulate the switching behavior due to the detailed consideration of device-circuit interactions and the nonlinear nature of model parameters, such as internal capacitances. The developed model is incorporated in an IGBT loss calculation module of an electromagnetic transient simulation program to enable the estimation of switching losses in voltage source converters embedded in large power systems.

  • This study proposes a high-efficiency phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter with a wide input voltage range. The conventional PSFB converter is a useful topology in high-power applications. This converter not only achieves the zero-voltage switching of the primary switches, but also has small RMS current in the primary side. However, because the conventional PSFB converter has large freewheeling current in the primary side when it is designed considering the hold-up time of the converter, such a converter has high conduction loss at the primary switches. To solve this problem, a new PSFB converter is proposed in this study. The experiment is implemented with an input voltage ranging from a 320 V-400 V and an output power specification of 715 W.

  • In this paper, the proposed full-bridge high frequency isolated zoo voltage and zero current switching phase shifted pulse width modulation(ZVZCS PS-PWM)DC-DC converter among fuel cell generation system consist of 1.2[kW] fuel cell of Nexa Power Module, full-bridge DC-DC converter to boost the fuel cell low voltage($28{\sim}43[%]$) to 380[VDC] and a single phase full-bridge inverter is implemented to produce AC output(220[VAC], 60[Hz]). A tapped inductor filter with freewheeling diode is newly implemented in the output filter of the proposed full-bridge high frequency isolated ZVZCS PS-PWM DC-DC converter to suppress circulating current under the wide output voltage regulation range, thus to eliminate the switching and transformer turn-on/off over-short voltage or transient phenomena. Besides the efficiency of $93{\sim}97[%]$ is obtained over the wide output voltage regulation ranges and load variations.

  • In this paper, a new mode changeable asymmetric full bridge dc/dc converter is proposed to solve the freewheeling current problem of the conventional zero voltage switching(ZVS) phase shift full bridge(PSFB) dc/dc converter of low output voltage and high output current applications. The proposed converter is operated as an asymmetric full bridge converter when the duty cycle is less than 50% and active clamp full bridge converter when the duty cycle is greater than 50%. As a result, since its freewheeling current is eliminated, the conduction loss is lower than that of the conventional ZVS PSFB dc/dc converter. Moreover, ZVS of all power switches can be ensured along a wide load ranges and output current ripple is very small. Therefore, high efficiency of the proposed converter can be achieved. Especially since its operation mode is changed to the active clamp full bridge converter during hold up time and can be operated with 50~100% duty ratio, it can produce the stable output voltage along wide input voltage range. The operational principles, theoretical analysis and design considerations are presented. To confirm the operation, validity and features of the proposed converter, experimental results from a 1.2kW($400V_{dc}/12V_{dc}$) prototype are presented.

  • In a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system, the traditional Z-source inverter uses a low frequency transformer to ensure galvanic isolation between the grid and the PV system. In order to combine the advantages of both Z-source inverters and transformerless PV inverters, this paper presents a modified single-phase transformerless Z-source PV grid-connected inverter and a corresponding PWM strategy to eliminate the ground leakage current. By utilizing two reversed-biased diodes, the path for the leakage current is blocked during the shoot-through state. Meanwhile, by turning off an additional switch, the PV array is decoupled from the grid during the freewheeling state. In this paper, the operation principle, PWM strategy and common-mode (CM) characteristic of the modified transformerless Z-source inverter are illustrated. Furthermore, the influence of the junction capacitances of the power switches is analyzed in detail. The total losses of the main electrical components are evaluated and compared. Finally, a theoretical analysis is presented and corroborated by experimental results from a 1-kW laboratory prototype.

  • The conventional high frequency phase-shifted full bridge DC-DC converter has a disadavantage that a circulating current flows through transformer and switching devices during the freewheeling interval Due to this circulating current, RMS current stress, conduction losses of transformer and switching devices are increased. To alleviate this problem, this study provides a novel circulating current free type high frequency soft switching phase-shifted full bridge DC-DC converter which applies the energy recovery snubber(ERS) attached at the secondary side of transformer. The ERS adopted in this study is consisted of three fast recovery diode($Ds_1$, $Ds_2$, $Ds_3$), two resonant capacitor($Cs_1$, $Cs_2$) and a small resonant inductor [(Lr) : It can be ignored because the transformer leakage inductance(Ll) is able to use in stead of inserting the resonant inductor(Lr)]

  • In order to verify the performance of brushless DC (BLDC) motors, the simulation method has been widely used. The current of a BLDC motors flows on two phase windings to obtain a constant torque. However, the freewheeling current caused by the inductance component of a BLDC motor exists at the commutation point so that the current can flow on three phase windings at the same time. Due to the changes of the excited phases, the model equations are frequently changed during BLDC motor drive operation. The model equations can be also changed by the applied switching pattern since the current path in the inverter circuit changes according to switching pattern. A BLDC motor system can utilize various switching patterns for many different purposes. However, such changes of the model equations complicate the simulation procedure. In this paper, the technique to set up model equations is proposed to ease the simulation of a BLDC motor system through an inverter circuit analysis. The proposed technique will be verified using the C language. Although this method does not provide the level of detail obtainable from commercial simulation tools like PSIM or SIMULINK, it can provide an efficient way to quickly compare various conditions.

  • In this paper a new zero current transition pulse width modulation (ZCT-PWM) buck converter is proposed to combine the desirable feature of both the conventional buck converter and resonant converters. In this proposed scheme an auxiliary circuit is added to the conventional buck converter and used to achieve soft-switching for both the main switch and the freewheeling diode while not incurring any additional losses due to auxiliary circuit And this converter operates exactly like the conventional PWM converter except for a short particular time interval. The operation of the proposed converter is explained and analyzed. and design guidelines are presented. To validate the feasibility of the proposed converter, a 100KHz 180-W prototype is built and tested.
