This paper is a continuation of a recent development on the Hermite-based divergence-free element method and deals with a non-isothermal fluid flow driven by the buoyancy force in a square cavity with temperature difference across the two sides. Two Hermite functions are considered for numerical computations in this paper. One is a cubic function and the other is a quartic function. The degrees-of-freedom of the cubic Hermite function are stream function and its first and second derivatives for the velocity field, and temperature and its first derivatives for the temperature field. The degrees-of-freedom of the quartic Hermite function include two second derivatives and one cross derivative of the stream function in addition to the degrees-of-freedom of the cubic stream function. This paper presents a brief review on the Hermite based divergence-free basis functions and its finite element formulations for the buoyancy driven flow. The present algorithm does not employ any upwinding or a stabilization term. However, numerical values and contour graphs for major flow variables showed good agreements with those by De Vahl Davis[6].

This paper dispicts the vortical flow characteristics over a delta wing using a computational analysis for the purpose of investigating and visualizing the effect of the angle of attack and fee stream velocity on the low-speed delta wing aerodynamics. Computations are applied to the full, 3-dimensional, compressible, Navier-Stokes Equations. In computations, the free stream velocity is changed between 20m/s and 60m/s and the angle of attack of the delta wing is changed between $16^{\circ}\;and\;28^{\circ}$. For the correct prediction of the major features associated with the delta wing vortex flows, various turbulence models are tested. The standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model predict well the vertical flows over the delta wing. Computational results are compared with the previous experimental ones. It is found that the present CFD results predict the vortical flow characteristics over the delta wing, and with an increase in the free steam velocity, the leading edge vortex moves outboard and its streangth is increased.
Numerical simulations are conducted for laminar flow past a sphere rotating In the transverse direction, in order to investigate the effect of the rotation on the characteristics of flow over a sphere. The Reynolds numbers considered are Re=100, 250 and 300 based on the free-stream velocity and the sphere diameter, and the rotational speeds are in the range of $0{\leq}{\omega}{\leq}1$, where ${\omega}^{\ast}$ is the maximum velocity on the sphere surface normalized by the free-stream velocity. At ${\omega}^{\ast}=0$ (without rotation), the flow past the sphere experiences steady axisymmeoy, steady planar-symmetry and unsteady planar-symmetry, respectively, at Re=100, 250 and 300. However, with rotation, the flow becomes planar-symmetric for all the cases investigated and the symmetry plane is orthogonal to the axis of the rotation. The flow is also steady or unsteady depending on both the Reynolds number and the rotational speed, and the vortical structures behind the sphere are significantly modified by the rotation. For example, at Re=300, hairpin vortices completely disappear in the wake at ${\omega}^{\ast}=0.4\;and\;0.6$, and at ${\omega}^{\ast}=1$ vortical structures of a high frequency are newly generated due to the shear layer instability. It is also shown that with increasing rotational speed, the time-averaged drag and lift coefficients increase monotonically.
The error in measuring temperature profiles by thermocouple inside boundary layer mostly comes from the conduction heat transfer of the thermocouple. The error is not negligible when the conductivity of the thermocouple is very high. In this study, the effect of conduction heat transfer of the thermocouple on the temperature profile inside boundary layer was examined by considering both free-stream velocity and a thermocouple position. The conduction error of an E-type thermocouple was investigated by numerical analysis of three-dimensional conjugate heat transfer for various velocity profiles of boundary layer and thermocouple positions.

The influence of unsteady boundary layer magnetohydrodynamic flow with thermal relaxation of perfectly conducting fluid, past a semi-infinite plate, is considered. The governing non linear partial differential equations are solved using the method of successive approximations. This method is used to obtain the solution for the unsteady boundary layer magnetohydrodynamic flow in the special form when the free stream velocity exponentially depends on time. The effects of Alfven velocity $\alpha$ on the velocity is discussed, and illustrated graphically for the problem.
A study is performed in order to design a effective ventilation equipment for the pollutants in workshop. The procedure has been used to calculate the flow in a confined rectangular space channel. A cross free stream is flowed from open space and jet stream including pollutants is injected from bottom area. Calculation results shows a wake region which exists immediarely downstream of the jet discharge and are compared with the experimental data. Calculation data are in good agreement with experimental results. A wake plays an important role on a stagnation of the pollutants. Thus ventilation equipment has to be designed without a stagnation region which give rise to concentration stratification. In this study, calculation parameters are the position and velocity of pollutants and fresh air from cross free stream. It is concluded that more measurements of local velocities, temperatures and concentrations of the pollutants.

For a cylinder in a uniform flow stream, sound is generated by the fluctuating pressure on the cylinder surface due to the vortex shedding behind the cylinder. It is known that the major parameters to predict the sound pressure are the characteristic length of the flow along the cylinder axis and the fluctuating lift coefficient. These parameters strongly depend on the Reynolds number and the yaw angle of the cylinder to the free stream. In this experimental study the effects of yaw on the flow parameters, and consequently on the generated sound are investigated. The surface pressure and the radiated sound are measured simultaneously for different yaw angles and showed that the reduced normal velocity component to the cylinder axis reduces the unsteady lift fluctuation which results in lowered sound press-are level, However, experimental result shows that "the cosine law" which uses the normal velocity component as a characteristic velocity for noise Generation from a yawed cylinder needs to be carefully reviewed. reviewed.
In the present study, effects of tree-stream turbulence and surface trip wire on the flow past a sphere at $Re\;=\;0.4\;{\times}\;10^5\;{\sim}\;2.8\;{\times}\;10^5$ are investigated through wind tunnel experiments. Various types of grids are installed upstream of the sphere in order to change the tree-stream turbulence intensity. In the case of surface trip wire, 0.5mm and 2mm trip wires are attached from $20^{\circ}\;{\sim}\;90^{\circ}$ at $10^{\circ}$ interval along the streamwise direction. To investigate the flow around a sphere, drag measurement using a load cell, surface-pressure measurement, surface visualization using oil-flow pattern and near-wall velocity measurement using an I-type hot-wire probe are conducted. In the variation of free-stream turbulence, the critical Reynolds number decreases and drag crisis occurs earlier with increasing turbulence intensity. With increasing Reynolds number, the laminar separation point moves downstream, but the reattachment point after laminar separation and the main separation point are fixed, resulting in constant drag coefficient at each free-stream turbulence intensity. At the supercritical regime, as Reynolds number is further increased, the separation bubble is regressed but the reattachment and the main separation points are fixed. In the case of surface trip wire directly disturbing the boundary layer flow, the critical Reynolds number decreases further with trip wire located more downstream. However, the drag coefficient after drag crisis remains constant irrespective of the trip location.

An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effects of the free stream turbulence intensity and Reynolds number on the heat transfer and flow characteristics In the linear turbine cascade. Profiles of the time-averaged velocity, turbulence intensity, and Reynolds stress were measured in the turbine cascade passage. The static pressure and heat transfer distributions on the blade suction and pressure surfaces were also measured. The experiments were made for the Reynolds number based on the chord length, Rec = $2.2{\times}10^4$ to $1.1{\times}10^5$ and the free stream turbulence intensity, $FSTI_1$ = 0.6% to 9.1 %. The uniform heat flux boundary condition on the blade surface was created using the gold film Intrex and the surface temperature was measured by liquid crystal, while hot wire probes were used for the flow measurements. The results show that the free stream turbulence promotes the boundary layer development and delays the flow separation point on the suction surface. It was found that the boundary layer flows on the suction surface for all Reynolds numbers tested with $FSTI_1$ = 0.6% are laminar. It was also found that the heat transfer coefficient on the blade surface increases as the free stream turbulence intensity increases and the flow separation point moves downstream with an increasing Reynolds number. The results of skin friction coefficients are in good agreement with the heat transfer results in that for $FSTI_1{\geq}2.6%$, the turbulent boundary layer separation occurs.
This paper describes a recent development on the divergence free basis function based on a hermite stream function and verifies its validity by comparing results with those from a modified residual method known as one of stabilized finite element methods. It can be shown that a proper choice of degrees of freedom at a node with a proper arrangement of the hermite interpolation functions can yield solenoidal or divergent free interpolation functions for the velocities. The well-known cavity problem has been chosen for validity of the present algorithm. The comparisons from numerical results between the present and the modified residual showed the present method yields better results in both the velocity and the pressure within modest Reynolds numbers(Re = 1,000).
