  • Open interfaces in the optica] Internet have been progressed by OIF's ISI, ITU-T ASTN's CCI and IETF's GSMP extensions with optical switching. These open interfaces enable the separation between the control plane and the optical transport plane. This separation allows flexibility in the network, but it suffers more setup delay than the traditional switch-by-switch connection setup. We propose the parallel interworking model, which will reduce the connection setup delay in the open interface of optical Internet. Based on the switch controller's caching capability about networks states, the parallel interworking procedures between signaling protocol and GSMP protocol are performed in the switch controller. We simulated and evaluated our proposed parallel interworking model and the existing sequential interworking model in terms of a connection setup delay and a completion ratio. We observed that the completion ratios of the two interworking models were quite close. However the connection setup delay of parallel interworking model is improved by about 30% compared with that of the sequential interworking model.

  • The update transactions to be executed in spatial databases usually have been known as interactive and long duration works. To improve the parallelism of concurrent updates, it needs multiple transactions concurrently update a large spatial object which has a spatial extensions larger than workspace of a client. However, under the existing locking protocols, it is not possible to concurrently update a large spatial object because of conflict of a write lock This paper proposes a partial locking scheme of enabling a transaction to set locks on parts of a big object. The partial locking scheme which is an exclusive locking scheme set by user, acquires locks for a part of the big object to restrict the unit of concurrency control to a partial object of a big object. The scheme gives benefits of improving the concurrency of un updating job for a large object because it makes the lock control granularity finer.

  • As is pointed out by Gourieroux (1997), the volatility effects in financial time series vary according to the signs of the return rates and therefore asymmetric Threshold-GARCH (TGARCH, henceforth) processes are natural extensions of the standard GARCH toward asymmetric volatility modeling. For preliminary detection of asymmetry in volatility, we suggest graphs of squared-log-returns for various financial time series including KOSPI, KOSDAQ and won-Euro exchange rate. Next, asymmetric TGARCH(1,1) model fits are provided in comparisons with standard GARCH(1.1) models.

  • This study was purposed to evaluate the influence of anodically oxidized film on titanium (Ti) onto MG-63 osteoblast-like cell attachment and activity. Only scratch lines created by polishing were seen in ASR and ANO-1 groups. About $1.5{\mu}m$-thick homogeneous oxide film which has pores of about $0.5{\mu}m$ diameter were formed in ANO-12. The crystalline structure of the oxide films formed by anodization in phosphoric acid electrolyte was $TiP_2O_7$. The total protein amounts of ANO-1 and ANO-12 groups showed higher values of maximum protein amount than that of AS-R group. At 3 days of incubation, total protein amount showed higher value in ANO-2 when comparing to that of AS-R (p<0.05). Based on the results of ALPase activity test, the degree of MG-63 cell differentiation for initial mineralization matrix formation was similar. For all the test groups after 1 day of incubation, MG-63 cells grew healthily in mono-layer with dendritic extensions. After incubation for 3 days, the specimen surfaces were covered more densely by cells, and numerous micro filaments were extruding to the extracellular matrix.

  • MIDAS-II is the storage system for BADA DBMS developed at ETRI. This paper describes the extension of MIDAS-II for incorporating the tertiary storage device such as an optical disk jukebox or a tape library, enabling MIDAS-II to function as a storage system of the data server that stores a massive amount of multimedia data. The MIDAS-II disk volume structure is extended to efficiently function as a volume for the tertiary storage device with multiple platters, which canstore huge amount of data of the order of tera bytes. The storage structure of the LOB is changed to efficiently manage the LOB data in the tertiary storage device. The data structures of the shared memory, the process structure, and the utilities in MIDAS-II are also extended to efficiently incorporating the tertiary storage device. The functionalities of each MIDAS-II API function are expanded to handle the tertiary storage device, while the prototypes of those functions are intact in order not to affect the existing application programs. The performance evaluation shows that the extended MIDAS-II works effectively with the tertiary storage device. All these extensions and the performance evaluation are conducted in the SunOS 5.4 environment.

  • The Internet has become a part of our lives. As the number of devices with Internet accessibility increases, users can use web services with those devices anytime, anywhere. Web contents on the web page can be delivered to user in various forms for various devices and users want to use seamlessly the contents with an appropriate device. Web browser extension is function to add features that are not supported by default browser. All browsers support extensions that provide the same services for cross-browser. In this paper, We proposed object migration architecture between heterogeneous browsers by expanding our proposed mechanism that identifies objects and the information of those objects to be migrated in the web page, extracts the object and creates object after migration. For this purpose, we analyzed the extension architecture of representative browsers and investigated necessary files to develop objects migration extension. In addition, We investigated how to send and receive message among files in each browser extension and the interaction mechanism among those files. Finally, We implemented the object migration mechanisms between heterogeneous browsers.

  • Recently, as the design of a system gets larger and more complex, functional verification method based on system-level becomes more important. The verification of a functional block mainly uses BFM(bus functional model). The larger the burden on functional verification is, the more the importance of configuring a proper verification environment increases rapidly. SystemVerilog unifies hardware design languages and verification languages in the form of extensions to the Veri log HDL. The processing of design description, function simulation and verification using same language has many advantages in system development. In this paper, we design DUT that is composed of AMBA bus and function blocks using SystemVerilog and verify the function of DUT in verification environment using layered testbench. Adaptive FIR filter and Booth's multiplier are chosen as function blocks. We confirm that verification environment can be reused through a minor adaptation of interface to verify functions of other DUT.

  • One-dimensional (1D) models of incompressible flows, can be of interest for many applications in which fast resolution times are demanded, such as fluid-structure interaction of flows in compliant pipes and hemodynamics. This work proposes a higher-order 1D theory for the flow-field analysis of incompressible, laminar, and viscous fluids in rigid pipes. This methodology is developed in the domain of the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF), which was first employed in structural mechanics. In the framework of 1D modelling, CUF allows to express the primary variables (i.e., velocity and pressure fields in the case of incompressible flows) as arbitrary expansions of the generalized unknowns, which are functions of the 1D computational domain coordinate. As a consequence, the governing equations can be expressed in terms of fundamental nuclei, which are invariant of the theory approximation order. Several numerical examples are considered for validating this novel methodology, including simple Poiseuille flows in circular pipes and more complex velocity/pressure profiles of Stokes fluids into non-conventional computational domains. The attention is mainly focused on the use of hierarchical McLaurin polynomials as well as piece-wise nonlocal Lagrange expansions of the generalized unknowns across the pipe section. The preliminary results show the great advantages in terms of computational costs of the proposed method. Furthermore, they provide enough confidence for future extensions to more complex fluid-dynamics problems and fluid-structure interaction analysis.

  • Recently, new GIS applications such as gee portal and spatial data infrastructure are emerging. These are related to web computing techniques or methodologies based on web 2.0 paradigm, open API of portal, open source GIS, and international GIS standards which are independently on developing. The product of these applications can be realized in the linkage of those components. In this study, a case implementation concerning linkage with Google maps API and open source middleware named Deegree is carried out, and the results are discussed for open source uses in geo portal. Open source middleware supports various levels and types of OGC standards, so that it enables web publishing in the several web standard formats and data exchanges and interoperable uses between external database servers. Also the (unction extensions and the multi tier-based architecture within geo portal for specific purpose are possible.

  • PURPOSE: Prone hip extension (PHE) has been used for assessment of lumbo-pelvic movement and strengthening exercise for weakness of the hip joint muscles in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). On the other hand, few studies have examined which are the best PHE exercises to activate the gluteus maximus (GM) selectively in physical therapy practice. To aim of this study compared the muscle activity of the GM, rectus femoris (RF), biceps femoris (BF), tibialis anterior (TA) during these four different prone hip extensions, PHE, PHE with quadriceps activation (PHEQA), PHE with ankle dorsiflexion (PHEAD), and PHE with ankle plantarflexion (PHEAP), in subjects with CLBP. METHODS: Nineteen subjects with low back pain participated in this study. Subject performed four PHE exercises and surface electromyography (EMG) was used to evaluate the muscle activity. Data were analyzed by one-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (${\alpha}=.05/3=.017$) and a Bonferroni adjustment was performed if a significant difference was found. RESULTS: The muscle activities recorded by EMG showed significant among the four exercises. The muscle activity of the GM increased significantly during PHEQA than during PHEAP (P=.012). CONCLUSION: PHEQA is the most effective exercise for eliciting greater GM muscle activation among the four PHE exercises in subjects with CLBP.
