  • Short-palped crane flies belonging to the genus Epiphragma Osten Sacken, 1860 (Diptera: Limoniidae: Limnophilinae) have a worldwide distribution except the Afrotropics, with the highest diversity in Neotropics and Oriental Region. They are divided into four subgenera: Eupolyphragma Alexander, 1948, Epiphragma s. str., Lipophragma Alexander, 1978, and Parepiphragma Alexander, 1960. Diagnostic characters and wing photographs of all subgenera are given. Genus Epiphragma was previously unknown from the Korean Peninsula. Species Epiphragma (Epiphragma) gracilistylus Alexander, 1933 is newly recorded for North Korea, E. (E.) subfascipenne Alexander, 1920 is newly recorded for South and North Korea, and E. (E.) subinsigne Alexander, 1920 is newly recorded for South Korea. These species are taxonomically revised, and the taxonomic status of E. (E.) gracilistylus is discussed. We present an identification key and redescriptions and illustrations of both sexes from all species in Korea. Redescription of larva and pupa of E.(E.) subfascipenne is presented. Elevation range, period of activity, habitat information, general distribution, and a distribution map in Korean Peninsula is given for each species.

  • Two isolation methods using the open plate and air sampler were applied to examine microbial distribution as an environmental factor for conservation of cultural properties in the War Memorial in Korea. The numbers of fungi were the abundant in the air of entrance and inside of the exhibition room where visitors were crowded, compared with inside of repository rooms. Fungal and bacterial distributions in the exhibition room during exhibition period were higher than during nonexhibition period, These results are due to the inflow of air current carrying microoganisms to the exibition rooms from outside with visitors. Fungi isolated from the War Memorial were identified as 19 species and one thermophilic fungus, Neurospora crassa. The majority of the isolated fungi are seemed to cause damage to cellulose materials in the Memorial.

  • The hat excavated from the tomb of Hojeo-myon Wonsung-gun in Kangwon province was dry-cleaned and restored. The hat was made of wool felt and decorated with several strands of silk cord. It was very dirty and moth-eaten. After getting rid of the particle soils on a surface with painting brush, the hat was dry-cleaned using perchloroethylene applying the minimum force, and blotting paper was used for drying. During cleaning, it was supported by the stainless steel net. The weight loss was 7.94% after cleaning. The soils sticked on the hat was removed clearly. The texture of the hat became softer after cleaning. Color difference(∆E) was 2.57, which is a noticeable change. The color became clear and changed to the red and yellow range. After dry-cleaning, the hat was repaired. Dislocated silk cords were fixed to the right place by stitching with silk yarn. To keep the shape of the hat, it should be supported by a hat-shaped stiff net during exibition and storing.

  • Matured adults of Siniperca scherzeri were collected from Soyangdam and Hongchun river, Gangwon-do, Korea. The fertilized eggs were hatched and reared in the laboratory of the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute. Osteological development of the larvae and juveniles of Siniperca scherzeri were investigated. Three days after hatching, the larva (6.12 mm in total length: TL) had partly ossified parasphenoid, clavicle, hyomandibular, preopercle, opercle and jaw bones with 7 to 8 canine teeth. The ascending process of premaxillary and ca 19 and 23 teeth on the premaxillary and dentary, respectively, were ossified at 10 days after hatching. Also at 10 days, the vertebral columns of the larvae (6.85 mm in TL) were posterioly ossified to the 5~7th vertebra, and ossification was completed in the juvenile (10.99 mm in TL) on the 22 nd day. Thus ossification began 3 days after hatching, and was completed 22 days after hatching.

This study is to discuss about how those narratives gain modernity with the titles scattered in 『Byeolgeongon』 as the central figure, and to reveal the nature of the comic narratives in 『Byeolgeongon』 by looking into contents. The comic narratives in the magazine are 149, especially from the titles show the editors' agony at that time. The narratives gain modernity by combining the new trend cultural terms which can't be found in our traditional culture as 'sinbu huboja jeonramhwoe.', 'sinrang huboja jeonramhoe.', 'nonsense teuksseolgwan', 'how modern shipbuilding 10 inventions sinjejo', 'sohwabangsongsil', 'sohwabangsongguk', 'freedom march', 'sinchunpoksodaehwoe' and 'humor orchestra'. The narratives give laughter to the readers by carrying the characters such as wit, enlightenment, critics of social conditions, grotesque.
