  • The sulfide and carbonate mineral samples for sulfur and carbon isotope studies were collected from Sangdong, Geodo, Yeonhwa, Shinyemi and Janggun mines which are distributed in the Metallogenetic Province of the Taebaeg Mt. Region. The ${\delta}S^{34}$ values of molybdenite, pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena from the above mines are similar and within the range of +1.66 to +6.77‰ with the exception of chalcopyrite from Geodo mine ranging from -1.58 to 1.96‰, while the sulfide minerals are dominated by positive values between +3.05 and +5.08‰. It is suggested that the major sulfur source is genetically related to the Cretaceous granitic activity. The average ${\delta}C^{13}$ values of calcite from limestone, calcite from calcite vein in ore bodies and granite, and rhodochrosite from ore bodies are -0.60‰, -2.69‰ and -6.00‰, respectively. The data on carbon isotope compositions indicate that the calcite from limestone originated in marine environment, the rhodochrosite in hydrothermal solution, and calcite from calcite vein and granite in the mixing condition of marine and hydrothermal waters. The temperatures of mineralization by the sulfur isotopic composition coexisting pyrite-pyrrhotite from Yeonhwa No.1, sphalerite-galena from Weolam and Dong-jeom of Yeonhwa No.1 mine, sphalerite-galena and pyrite-galena from Janggun mine were $273^{\circ}C$, $460{\sim}511^{\circ}C$, $561{\sim}690^{\circ}C$, $341^{\circ}C$ and $375^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • In this paper, we introduce a multi purpose environmental monitoring system developed as a commercially available standard using the technique of hetero-core spliced fiber optic sensor. The monitoring system has been tested and evaluated in a possible outdoor condition in view of the full scaled operation at actual sites to be monitored. Additionally, the developed system in this work conveniently provides us with various options of sensor modules intended for monitoring such physical quantities as displacement, distortion, pressure, binary states, and liquid adhesion. Two channels of optical fiber line were monitored, in each of which three displacement sensor modules were connected in series, in order to examine the performance to a pseudo-cracking experiment in the outdoor situation, and to clarify temperature influences to the system in terms of the coupling of optical connectors and the OTDR stability. The pseudo-cracking experiment successfully observed the actually given cracks by means of calculation based on the detected displacement values and their geometrical arrangement of the used sensor modules. And the robustness to the temperature is verified in the various temperature change.

  • In this study, the roadability, fuel economy and emission characteristics were evaluated for a natural gas converted vehicle. The results are as follows; Not only the shortage of power was observed in stall test, but also large deterioration of acceleration performance was exposed in roadability. Compared to the original LPG system, the acceleration is 76% in start acceleration and 45 ~ 65% in overtaking acceleration, especially the decline became larger when air conditioner is at work. Furthermore, because the mapping data, which controls the injection depending on driving condition, do not match up with injection system, the failure of air-fuel ratio feedback control occurs resulting from the large gap between the required and the really supplied amount of fuel. This failure cause the exhaust gas to emit without catalytic conversion and the fuel economy based on the fuel heat value to get worse 22% in the mode test and 16% in road test respectively. In addition, the existing injection system does not secure enough fuel at the starting so that it may lead to the fail of clod start, the deterioration of hot start and inharmonic of engine at the idle after start.

  • Recently, the usage of the satellite is increased more and more in the areas that are communication, weather, marine, optical, radar etc. The functions of the Satellite are evolving from passive transponder to active transponder by the developing of a technology. Advanced countries in satellites install the DCAMP for increase of bandwidth efficiency, improvement of QoS by interference rejection. DCAMP includes many digital components in order to implement functions. Thus, these kinds of active transponders consume much more power compared to passive transponder and then increase the heat. In this paper, we discuss the TVAC test result of DCAMP in EQM(Engineering Qualification Model) level. The paper shows the test results of digital gain control in order to verify DCAMP status under the TVAC test. In addition, the temperature and heat condition of main components from viewpoint of derating will be treated through the official environment test for qualification.

  • The acoustic signal from a distance sound source in an enclosed space often produces reverberant sound that varies depending on room impulse response. The estimation of the level of reverberation or the quality of the observed signal is important because it provides valuable information on the condition of system operating environment. It is also useful for designing a dereverberation system. This paper proposes a speech quality estimation method based on the harmonicity of received signal, a unique characteristic of voiced speech. At first, we show that the harmonic signal modeling to a reverberant signal is reasonable. Then, the ratio between the harmonically modeled signal and the estimated non-harmonic signal is used as a measure of standard room acoustical parameter, which is related to speech clarity. Experimental results show that the proposed method successfully estimates speech quality when the reverberation time varies from 0.2s to 1.0s. Finally, we confirm the superiority of the proposed method in both background noise and reverberant environments.

  • GRS is an effective urban ecology restoration technique that can manage a variety of environmental functions such as ecological restoration, rainwater spill control and island heat effect from a low-impact development standpoint that can be utilized in new construction and retrofits. Recently, quantitative evaluation studies, both domestic and abroad, in the areas related to these functions, including near-earth surface climate phenomenon, heavy rainwater regulation, thermal environment of buildings, have been actively underway, and there is a trend to standardize in the form of technological standards. In particular, centered on the advanced European countries, studies of standardizing the specific insulation capability of buildings with green system that comprehensively includes the green roof, from the perspective of replacing the exterior materials of existing buildings, are in progress. The limitation of related studies in the difficulties associated with deriving results that reflect material characteristics of continuously evolving systems due in part to not having sufficiently considered the main components of green system, mechanisms of vegetation, soils. This study attempts to derive, through EnergyPlus, the effects that the vegetation-related indicators such as vegetation height, FCV, etc. have on building energy load, by interpreting vegetation and soil mechanisms through plant canopy model and using an ecological standard indicator LAI that represent the condition of plant growth. Through this, the interpretations that assume green roof system as simple heat insulation will be complemented and a more practical building energy performance evaluation method that reflects numerical methods for heat fluxes phenomena that occur between ecology restoration systems comprised of plants and soil and the ambient space.

  • Non-thermal plasma technology for air pollution control, which are NOx, SOx, VOCs, soot, etc., is reviewed. In the early parts of the paper, generation of non-thermal plasma and plasma chemical process are introduced to provide an appropriate plasma condition (electron energy density) for treating air pollutions. Recent results on numerical simulation, optical diagnostics, and gas treatment are provided to characterize an optimal design of plasma generation and plasma chemical process. These data are also helpful to understand unique features of non-thermal plasma process that is achieved with relatively low temperature conditions, i.e. low enthalpy conditions of the treated gas molecules. In the later parts of the paper, several examples of recently developed non-thermal plasma techniques are illustrated, in which technical and economical assessments of the present techniques are provided.

  • Optimization of the preimplantation mammalian embryo culture condition was widely focused on refining medium composition under the name of chemically defined media. However, recent research revealed that the alteration of physical environment can be a crucial factor to a successful embryo development. In this study, under the same embryo density, a novel culture device named oil-free micro tube culture (MTC) system was evaluated using porcine parthenogenetic embryos. The activated oocytes were placed into the 0.2 ml thin-wall flat cap PCR tube and cultured to the blastocyst stage. As a preliminary step, embryo density and culture medium volume were optimized under a standard drop culture system. The optimal embryo density range for in vitro culture was 0.5 embryos per ${\mu}l$ in $20\;{\mu}l$ drop (20.5%) and 1.0 embryos per ${\mu}l$ in $10\;{\mu}l$ drop (20.6%). Based on these results, we compared drop culture system and 'MTC' system in terms of the developmental rate to the blastocyst stage. In $20\;{\mu}l$ medium volume, the 'MTC' system showed similar blastocyst formation rate when compared with drop culture system (20.2% versus 20.5%, respectively) while the 'MTC' system showed lower blastocyst formation rate than drop culture system in $10\;{\mu}l$ one (12.7% versus 20.0%, respectively). Therefore the $20\;{\mu}l$ MTC system may be an alternative incubation system for short-distance embryo transport without carrying the $CO_2$ incubator and this provides novel embryo culture device to clinical veterinary embryologists.

  • With increasing satellite-based RS(Remotely Sensed) techniques, RS soil moisture footprints have been providing for various purposes at the spatio-temporal scales in hydrology, agriculture, etc. However, their coarse resolutions still limit the applicability of RS soil moisture to field regions. To overcome these drawbacks, the LDA(Landsat-based Downscaling Algorithm) was developed to downscale RS soil moisture footprints from the coarse- to finer-scales. LDA estimates Landsat-based soil moisture($30m{\times}30m$) values in a spatial domain, and then the weighting values based on the Landsat-based soil moisture estimates were derived at the finer-scale. Then, the coarse-scale RS soil moisture footprints can be downscaled based on the derived weighting values. The LW21(Little Washita) site in Oklahoma(USA) was selected to validate the LDA scheme. In-situ soil moisture data measured at the multiple sampling locations that can reprent the airborne sensing ESTAR(Electronically Scanned Thinned Array Radiometer, $800m{\times}800m$) scale were available at the LW21 site. LDA downscaled the ESTAR soil moisture products, and the downscaled values were validated with the in-situ measurements. The soil moisture values downscaled from ESTAR were identified well with the in-situ measurements, although uncertainties exist. Furthermore, the SMAP(Soil Moisture Active & Passive, $9km{\times}9km$) soil moisture products were downscaled by the LDA. Although the validation works have limitations at the SMAP scale, the downscaled soil moisture values can represent the land surface condition. Thus, the LDA scheme can downscale RS soil moisture products with easy application and be helpful for efficient water management plans in hydrology, agriculture, environment, etc. at field regions.
