Non-contact Ultrasonic Technique for the Thin Defect Evaluation by the Lamb-EMAT (비접촉 Lamb-EMAT를 이용한 두께감육 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Ultrasonic guided waves are gaining increasing attention for the inspection of platelike and rodlike structures. At the same time, inspection methods that do not require contact with the test piece are being developed for advanced applications. This paper capitalizes on recent advances in the areas of guided wave ultrasonics and noncontact ultrasonics to demonstrate a superior method for the nondestructive detection of thinning defects simulating hidden corrosion in thin aluminum plates. The proposed approach uses EMAT(electro-magnetic acoustic transducer) for the noncontact generation and detection of guided plate waves. Interesting features in the dispersive behavior of selected guided modes are used for the detection of plate thinning. It is shown that mode cutoff measurements provide a qualitative detection of thinning defects. Measurement of the mode group velocity can be also used to quantify of thinning depth.

Avidin Induced Silver Aggregation for SERS-based Bioassay

  • We developed a simple and effective method for the SERS-based detection of protein-small molecule complexes and label-free proteins using avidin-induced silver aggregation. Upon excitation with light of the appropriate wavelength (633 and 532 nm), the aggregated silver nanoparticles generate a strong electric field that couples with the resonance of the molecules (atto610 and cytochrome c), increasing the characteristic signals of these molecules and resulting in sensitive detection. The detection limit of biotin with the proposed method is as low as 48 ng/mL. The most important aspect of this method is the induction of silver aggregation by a protein (avidin), which makes the silver more biocompatible. This technique is very useful for the detection of protein-small molecule complexes.

An Approach for GPS Clock Jump Detection Using Carrier Phase Measurements in Real-Time

  • In this study, a real-time architecture for the detection of clock jumps in the GPS clock behavior is proposed. GPS satellite atomic clocks have characteristics of a second order polynomial in the long term showing sudden jumps occasionally. As satellite clock anomalies influence on GPS measurements which could deliver wrong position information to users as a result, it is required to develop a real time technique for the detection of the clock anomalies especially on the real-time GPS applications such as aviation. The proposed strategy is based on Teager Energy operator, which can be immediately detect any changes in the satellite clock bias estimated from GPS carrier phase measurements. The verification results under numerous cases in the presence of clock jumps are demonstrated.

  • The new islanding detection method using wavelet energy is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the autocorrelation of the wavelet energies, which is obtained from the high-frequency components of the grid voltage. It has the enhanced detection capabilities in the UV/OV/UF/OF region, which the conventional passive methods cannot obtain. The mathematical theories on the wavelet are presented, and the performance effectiveness is proved by the experimental results.

  • Many voltage sag compensators have been introduced, including the traditional dynamic voltage restorer (DVR), which requires an energy storage device but is inadequate for compensating deep and long-duration voltage sags. The AC-AC sag compensators introduced next do not require a storage device and they are capable of compensating voltage sags. This type of compensator needs an AC-AC converter to regulate the output voltage. Presented in this paper is a three-phase PWM-switched autotransformer voltage sag compensator based on an AC-AC converter that uses a proposed detection technique and PWM voltage control as a controller. Its effectiveness and capability in instantly detecting and compensating voltage sags were verified via MATLAB/Simulink simulations and further investigated through a laboratory prototype developed with a TMS320F2812 DSP as the main controller.

  • 본 논문에서는 네트워크 기반 분산 침입탐지 시스템을 위한 커널 수준 침입탐지 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 탐지분석으로 침입탐지 과정을 분리하고 침입탐지 규칙 생성 요구에 대한 침입탐지 자료구조로의 변환을 사용자 응용 프로그램 수준에서 수행하며 생성된 자료구조의 포인터 연결을 커널 수준에서 수행한다. 침입탐지 규칙 변경은 노드를 삭제하지 않고 삭제표시만 수행하고 새로운 노드를 추가하는 삭제마크 띤 노드추가 방식 통하여 수행한다 제안하는 기법은 탐지과정의 분리를 통해 분산 네트워크 환경에 효율적으로 적용할 수 있으며 커널기반 침입탐지 방식을 사용하여 사용자 응용 프로그램으로 동작하는 에이전트기반의 침입탐지 기법에 비해 탐지속도가 빠르다. 침입탐지 규칙 변경은 삭제마크 및 노드추가 방식을 통해서 규칙변경과 침입탐지를 동시에 수행하기 위한 커널의 부하를 줄일 수 있다. 이를 통해 다양한 네트워크 공격에 대하여 신속하게 대응할 수 있다. 그러므로, 서비스거부 공격과 같이 네트워크 과부하가 발생하는 환경에서도 신속한 침입탐지와 탐지효율을 증가시킬 수 있다는 장점을 가진다.

  • This paper introduces a partial edge detection technique, that improves the processing time of an automatic change tracking system for multi-temporal images. In the conventional change tracking systems for multi-temporal images, the edge detection is performed over the whole image. In the proposed method, however, the necessary portions for the edge detection is selected first and the edge detection is performed over the selected parts only. As a consequence, the improvement in the processing time could be achieved. The proposed change tracking system is expected to be utilized as a very efficient tool to configure changes in large data set such as remotely sensed satellite imagery or geophysical time laps images.

Multiresolution Edge Detection Technique (다해상도 에지 검출 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a multiresolution edge detection method which selects the edge detection window size and scale automatically by using the local variance information as an edgeness measure of a region. The mode of the local variance distribution which is calculated over the (2p + 1) x (2p + 1) windows is used to determine the resolution of the given pixel and the edge operator with different scale can be applied to the pixel depending on its resolution. The combination of the resolution determination scheme with the conventional Canny and LOG edge detectors gives the proposed multiresolution edge detection schemes. The effectness of the proposed schemes is shown via computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a meta-heuristic solution technique, Ant System (AS)algerian to solve edge detection problem. We define the quality of edge in terms of dissimilarity, continuity, thickness and length. We cast edge detection as a problem in cost minimization. This is achieved by the formulation of a cost function that inversely evaluates the quality of edge configuration. Twelve windows for enhancing dissimilarity regions based on the valid edge structures are used. The AS algorithm finds the optimal set of edge pixels based on the cost function. The experimental results show that the properly reduced set of edge pixels could be found regardless how complicated the image is.

Islanding Detection for Distributed Generation

  • The paper discussed various techniques for islanding detection and described in detail the working principles of ROCOF and vector shift relays. A simulator was used to investigate why the stability of both types of relays maybe affected by network and load switching, short-circuit faults and in the case of a ROCOF relay the loss of bulk generation or the tripping of a transmission feeder. Finally, to enhance the reliability of Loss of Mains protection, a new islanding detection technique based on a GPS synchronized phasor measurement system was proposed.
