This study analyzes the creation process of local cultural contents that appears in the Maeul-mandeulgi by utilizing the "Village Rituals" handed down from village. The purpose is to analyze the social values and meanings they represent. For this purpose, a qualitative research method using Chilgok-gun Yeong-ori was applied and analyzed through Lefebvre's the production of space theory. Residents began to recognize the necessity of projects such as Maeul-mandeulgi to overcome the community crisis, and attempted to change the perception of existing village rituals. The new cultural contents were created by adding a playful element to the existing Cheonwangje, and thereby strengthening the identity of the village. This resulted in the reproduction of the village as a new cultural space, but it showed the reproduction of the space in which the alienation occurred due to excessive physical expansion. However, through this process, villagers increased their sense of belonging and increased their satisfaction, which showed the process of being produced as a space of representation that strengthens the sense of community.
This comparative study between Korean and German housings aims at understanding different structural systems in the indoor and outdoor spaces, depending upon the user′s perception of the socio-cultural attributes. The analysis starts with four alternative contrary assumptions, that appear in morphological forms of dwelling; 1) linear distribution vs. areal distribution of residential districts, 2) mirror system vs. comb system in the layout of plot plans 3) organization of front vs. back outdoor spaces and 4) opening vs. closing in the indoor spaces. A clear difference is found between Korean and German samples in view of public and private relationships between indoor and outdoor spaces as well as the intermediate space. In the korean housing there always exists a symbolic and psychological territory of a certain sphere. On the other hand, outdoor space passes through various phases only to form a certain hierarchy even in a private space and, thereby, sets a boundary between private and public areas. In the case of Germany, the building itself draws a clear line between private and public outdoor spaces, and therefore the outdoor space has a "front" and "back". Thus, Germany′s private space may face a genuine public space and street, which is rare in the Korean housing. Although the layout of indoor space in the korean housing tends to be open, such an openness may be outstanding in living and dining spaces, kitchen and various accesses to rooms. In the case of Germany, such indoor spaces are usually closed to each other. Thus corridors act to separate these spaces. Such differences are analysed to be due to the different perceptions of interpersonal and socio-cultural attributes as intra-family and inter-neighbor relationships or communications.
Environment has formed characters of one society and the society has formed its characteristic cultural behaviors. Oppositely cultural behaviors make the characteristic products like environment and space products. It gives the idea that we can create cultural space by examining cultural characteristics. This research bases on the 5 cultural dimensions of Geert Hofstede to inspect cultural quality of Korea and the 10 cultural factors of Edward. T. Hall in order not to omit some part of cultural characters. From April 2004, KTX which is originated from TGV of France began toroll in Korea. It is interesting that the same interior of train is used by two different cultures. The method to find out the special quality of transportation culture of Korea passed 5 steps like following; 1) making a questionnaire to understand general concepts 2) observation to make dear what are the special behaviors in the interior of train 3) comparison valuation with marking sheet of the interiors of KTX and HSR in order to find out which space Korean people prefer 4) comparison of behaviors in the interior of KTX and TGV 5) Interviewing and surveying the opinions of passengers of KTX. With these methods it would be possible to seek out the characters, preferencesand needs for the interior space of train. There were remarkable things like following 1) importance of privacy from the other's eyes 2) seriousness of individual seat because of the short term transportation 3) necessity of continuous information because of 'Uncertainty Avoidance Culture' 4) absence of moving 5) requirement of bright and comfortable interior like one's inner room 6) preference to take a seat as a group with their friends or family due to 'Collective Culture' 7) self-defense and self-protection of one's baggage because of 'Uncertainty Avoidance Culture'. With these discoveries this research suggests guidelines to design interior of train of Korea.
The purpose of this study is to identify the latest trend and type of retail space, and the features according to type of retail space of global prestige brand. To do this, literature analysis was executed by related books, articles, and theses. As a result, the latest trend of fashion retail space which has appeared after 2000 is as follows: 1) The differentiation of fashion brand through collaboration between fashion designers and architects, 2) retail space extension strategy, 3) retail space as a cultural space, 4) bold investment for retail space. The type of fashion retail space which has appeared after 2000 is as follows: 1) Spectacular flagship retail space of monumental scale, 2) global type retail space which exhibits common features through the whole world, 3) localization retail space which shows different features according to store location 4) innovative retail space out of traditional store form. The result of this study will be utilized when a domestic fashion brand establishes global marketing strategy of retail space.
The findings of this study indicate that intangible cultural properties are worth preservation and transmission and should be considered as very important as tangible cultural properties. If the studies of intangible cultural properties are continued focusing on their characteristics and formational system, they can be expressed more properly by adding new interactive elements to database and expressive requisites. New techniques introduced in this study are believed to provide people with most reasonable and developmental motives for expression of the existing intangible cultural properties. Concerning Korea's cultural properties centered on intangible cultural properties, information construction should be made with a new idea of information based on database from the previous studies. The result will be able to set an important factor to give wide publicity to our cultural identity, which is currently shown in the process of background communication, and serve as a foothold to deliver exact information to our descendants. The intangible cultural properties are our people's mental cultural heritage resources. If museums or initiator groups, which are organized to spread cultural heritages, can use them as the subjects of exhibition through information construction and visualization, it will function to maximize the educational effect of transmitting our national mental world. The development of digital environment will provide the optimum conditions and tools making it possible to visualize intangible forms and ideas in a virtual cyber space. Given these viewpoints, steady studies and efforts for the improvement of Korea's cultural image should be made in the way of intangible cultural properties as well as tangible ones. They start from the country's accurate appreciation of cultural properties and are embodied in systematic adjustment and relationship between interdependent elements.

The historic cultural landscape of East lake in Kyung river area during Joseon dynasty was very outstanding that it had many attractions of scenic beauty, however, the Han river of today is being recognized as a natural landscape and as a place with low cultural and historical traits. This study applied landscape characteristics of the cultural space of Joseon Dynasty on visual image elements of Lynch to research the landscape characteristics. The research results are as follows. When East lake was applied to visual image elements, it was recognized as a 'superb' 'paths,' and the 'edge' which signifies the boundary showed its 'superb' clarity of the East lake. For the 'node,' a turning point of direction, Dumopo represented the 'superb' awareness. As East lake, Apgujung, and Jecheonjung represented the 'superb' awareness when 'landmark' among visual image elements of Lynch was applied to the cultural space, the awareness level and reputation were proportional to the visual image elements. When pattern, structure, and meaning of the cultural space were clear and had definite identity, the 'landmark' and 'district' elements were 'superb.' It was also identified that when awareness level of space was higher, the awareness of historic cultural landscape was high as well. Therefore, considering visual awareness level of the historic cultural landscape of Han river during restoration to investigate and to conduct case studies is considered to increase the awareness level of historicity and cultural character as well as restoration of the place.

The purpose of this study is to seek the methods of constructing a cultural information system based on GIS. It is impossible for regional culture to be formed apart from its surrounding space, so a study of culture should be based on realizing the features of its space. It is important to note that the elements composing a culture complicatedly interact with each other in their function and continuously change. Also they are interrelated in space and plentiful in their amount. Nevertheless, those studies practised so far in relation to culture and constructing cultural database are too limited in establishing cultural area or community life area required to recognize the regional identity. So it is now essential that we should study the methods of cultural expression surpassing objective historical and cultural site maps instead of simple maps depicting historical remains or sites. From this viewpoint, this study tries to find various cultural phenomena in relation to their space through seeking the methods of constructing the cultural database model using XML. In addition, this study tries to construct a base for increasing the utilization of information in making the cultural contents.
The space has been interpreted from various perspectives, such as hierarchical, cultural, economic, political factors, etc. So we can see the space as a social existence. Space is now being formed through the dialectical relations of these elements. From this point of view, this study started to research the spatial practice of morden people through the case in the early 20th century film. Low-rise Residential neighborhoods of Hongdae area, Garosu-gil, Samchung-dong, Itawon etc. are currently emerging new spaces for cultural consumption in the city. Nonetheless undiscerning excessive commercialization often results in monotonous urban space and deportation of residents and leaders of change; Due to commercialization and popularization recently this phenomenon is influencing surrounding low-rise residential neighborhoods. The main objective of this study is to examine how surrounding low-rise residential neighborhood transforms according to the expansion of culture-commerce spaces. Hongdae area's culture-commerce spaces and its expansion into Yeonnam-dong is investigated in specific. Especially attributes and main causes of transformation in physical and experiential space of neighborhood living facilities and residential buildings, when changed into culture-commerce related use is examined in detail. The expansion of culture-commerce space of Hongdae to Yeonnam-dong area has positive meaning in aspects of everyday experience. First, physical alteration of street-building relation increases direct and indirect contact of people. Contact opportunity carries important meaning in sense that it is prerequisite for next stage contact of network and exchange. Second, culture-commerce related programs provide the third place, where various leisure activities can take place. Attributes of transformation and positive meaning of culture-commerce spaces expanding its territory presents the need of management.
Nagan walled town is located on an axis connecting symbolic places, which is a lucky place from the Fengshui point of view because a mountain sits to the rear and a body of water sits to the front. It represents the environmental development of cultural space by blending folk belief, religion, social systems, adminstration facilities and living culture buildings. Therefore, it has a sustainable cultural view connected with a formed or formless religious view and an artificial view (walls, government buildings, living houses, cultivated lands, etc.) in a natural landscape. Environmental design techniques, enlarging the meaning and value of living on a mental level, can be found in the arrangement of space composition and settlement of Nagan walled town. The organised spaces of government and residential areas were constructed within the wall with the view of searching for lucky places (from best, better and good places) in order to construct ecological networks according to the outlooks of space and settlement.
